Had a great Zoom teeth whitening session with Matt today. I told him I had some of the bleach burn from a different dentist's office. He was super kind, patient, and took great care to really isolate my gums so they weren't exposed to the gel. This is the kind of experience you'd hope for. I am a newer patient to Oceanside Dental Excellence, and my wife is a patient too. I personally had a few things I needed addressed- cavities- crown replacement, and came to the office a few times for my treatment. From the beginning intake forms (The questions that were asked) about my comfort and concerns, physical health and expectations of my treatment- I shaped the idea that this team is thorough and does care about me the patient. This assumption rang true when I met the team and received care. When I visited Leslie and Sam helped me in the front with my treatment plans and insurance concerns. The team is really easy to communicate with- which is super helpful. Jamie has helped me a few times she is very kind! She is very nice and sets a great tone for making people at ease. I know that when I go to Oceanside dental excellence that I will get a neck pillow and a blanket to keep me comfortable! Mimi is great too, she gives really good advice for me to use at home with flossing and brushing- she is meticulous and I appreciate that. I've now worked with Dr Piper and Dr Dankworth and received great care- and am now free of dental pain and have no dental concerns. The Doctors took the time I needed to explain options, and provided a better understanding for what I needed to have done. I needed my front two crowns replaced, the process was very easy. I had no issues with the temporary crowns that got placed, and when my actual crowns came back, they were better than my originals. Dr. Dankworth even shaped them so they wouldn't be so big. The tech and dentist were extra careful with my pain levels because I was pregnant. When my insurance had issues, Dr. Dankworth and the team helped me appeal their decision. I recently moved to Carlsbad and hadn't found a dentist. Found myself in a hard spot when I chipped my tooth. I quickly went through my in network providers and found Dr. Piper. After looking at her Yelp page I figured I try them since reviews were more positive than others. They EXCEEDED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS from the office aesthetic to the staff to Dr. Piper and her work on my tooth. I was presented pricing ahead of time so I could choose to go through with the procedure or not and it was a very reasonable price so I said yes. Dr. Piper made me feel very comfortable and completed my chip repair within an hour and it looked and felt great! Her staff then presented me with pricing for Invisalign so I could consider solving my issue long term. I was very impressed and scheduled a cleaning to follow up. I went to the Oceanside Dental Excellence, the customer service is really bad, except for one of the front desk person. This place it's very expensive, however the job they did for me the quality is very poor, they did the upper denture it didn't feet me it was to big, the dentist started trimming it, it didn't work last week she gave me denture for me to try it, I end up having headaches, my face was swelling, I took it out, and use the old denture. My mouth was an absolute wreck when I was first seen. I had a lot of previous dental work done that had failed and wasn't done to quality. Dr. Piper was incredibly patient helped me feel comfortable and completely free of judgement. Doc is full of knowledge, she took the time to explain the work I needed done on a level that no other dentist had. I have had my entire mouth almost completely reconstructed by Dr. Piper and couldn't be happier. I haven't smiled this big in years. The three docs in the office work amazingly well together and are constantly utilizing each other's knowledge and years of expertise. Front desk is rude and inconsiderate when confronted with their devious lies about grandfathering in Dr. Ford patients. They are NOT in NETWORK with Delta Dental which Dr. Ford was. Veronica at the front desk told my husband and I it was not "their fault" we didn't know this. 2. I had been a patient with ONLY Dr. Ford for 30 years, with the new team, a Dentist never came to check on me at both of my 6 month cleanings. I have minimal dental work needed due to my loyalty of 6 month check ups with Dr. Ford. This was one of the saddest days for me when I had to chance Dentists. I had high hopes for the new owners. Very misleading. Tried to call and schedule an app. and could not get ahold of anyone. Then I sent an email and had the same result. Went to the office and explained this to the receptionist and she said they were short handed! Went for 2 visits of deep cleaning and was sent a bill of over $900 dollars. My insurance was out of network and they said that it would only be about 10% more, which it was not! I sent them $50 dollars and then I receive a bill that I owe them over $1200 dollars! I had an overlay done with Piper Dankworth. Instead of taking 45 mins to remove the temporary it took 90 with many shots and cutting. At one point I started to cough and I could feel her panic. I recently moved to Oceanside and needed a local dentist. My adult son referred me to Oceanside Dental Excellence. I have seen both Dr. Stephen Dankworth and Dr. Kimberly Dankworth. The dental care they performed was practically pain free. I am a big baby when it comes to pain. I wish they were my original dentist. Before going to Oceanside Dental Excellence, I would get nervous the day of a dentist appointment from anticipating the pain. Not anymore, both dentist were kind, knowledgeable, and fast. I'm so glad I found Oceanside Dental Excellence. The office is clean, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and wait time is minimal Masks required of course. Temperature taken as soon as you walk in. I felt very safe with their Covid protection policy. They have proper PPE and the exam rooms and equipment are sterile. Oceanside Dental Excellence purchased the practice of Dr. Thomas Ford who was generally recognized as one the best ever, that's a fact. (Its very misleading, by the way, that Dr. Ford's reviews are still presented on this page because he is not part of this practice.) I am a former patient of Dr. Ford who decided to give Dental Excellence a try. The cleaning by the hygienist and the checkup by Dr. Dankworth was fine. The problem (which turned out to cause quite a lot of confusion and gnashing of teeth) is that the office told me they accepted my insurance (Humana for Federal Employees) when actually they were only qualified for Humana (which is administered separately). There were weeks of confusion. After I thought it had all been resolved I received a bill for the cleaning (after I had been told the cleaning would be completely covered by insurance). Admittedly I hit the roof. Just this morning they called to say that they would delete the bill and they admitted that it was their error. This speaks well of the office, but I am left conflicted as to how to rate my experience. The verbiage for 2 stars is "Meh" and the verbiage for 3 stars is "A-OK". If I could, I would choose 2.5 stars because, in their defense, they kept trying to rectify the situation, albeit slowly. "A-OK" is not how I feel after this experience but 3 stars is closer to the truth than 2 stars. If you decide to try these dentists, you must verify and double-verify that your insurance is indeed accepted! More correctly, you should check from the OTHER END (meaning contact your insurance carrier and ask "Is this dental office in your network?"). I double-checked with the dentist but I should have confirmed with the insurance carrier (we actually tried to do that and got lost in the various web pages). To quote Bruce Springsteen "It oughta be easy, oughta be simple enough" to use the dental insurance that you have paid good money for. Unfortunately it is not simple. It is very complicated so buyer beware. I hope this practice gets all their ducks in a row and establishes a successful practice. I might check back if they do. read more

I chose Dr Ford's office because it is close, and I haven't regretted it. The office manager, Ruth, is friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable - she's a very good first impression of the office. I've been going to Dr Ford for 3 years, and have had the same hygienist for most of that time. I like this, because it tells me that the people who work there are happy and stick around for the long haul. Mostly I just get the twice a year cleanings, which are done very efficiently and painlessly. I have also had molds of my teeth taken for a device. At first, it didn't look like insurance would pay for the device and I did have to pay out of pocket for it - but Ruth worked her magic and I received a check for the whole amount back the following month! Dr. Ford himself is a pleasant, subdued man who knows what he's doing - I would recommend his office to anyone. read more

My family had been going to Dr. Ford for many years. I would not even to go to the dentist due to a bad experience when I was younger. Even as kind as Dr. Ford is, couldn't do it. Recently had to have my wisdom teeth pulled. Dr. Kimberly Dankworth and her assistant were so caring about making sure I was comfortable, and would answer all questions. I felt no pain with the shots and I was feeling less anxious. That i was okay when I went in for my cleaning with Natasha a few weeks later. She was very nice and kind as well. I would give 5 stars at this point but still have some appointments so I will return when we see how all those go. I would say the only con to the office is the days and office hours are little hard to work with mine and when we are trying to make appointments for our children. read more

I am so happy of them, I do know where to begin. Fortunately for me this time its been very professional and kind experience at the dentist facility. Front desk is very kind, I apologies for not remembering their names, but each one of them are worth remembering their names for they gave a very human feel while doing the treatment and treated me with respect as a patient which is rare these days, all these days I didn't care about such things but now I do. I was suffering from discomfort in my mouth after the wisdom tooth removal from more that year and half. I went to multiple dentist they were all proposing me to have braces and selling expensive and uncomfortable options, I got tired and decided for tooth removal. I went to the facility they gave next day appointment, took xray and adjusted my bite, i called end of the day and next day 10:00 am I was pain free for what I have been suffering for many many years. forever you can say with my wisdom tooth removal and other discomfort. 1 hour was the solution. Bottom line if the doctor is experienced your treatment may not cost you lot of problem and lot of money and time. What would have costed me thousands of dollars has got taken care for a reasonable amount and no other trouble. Doctor saved my tooth and I dont need braces. I am grateful. I could not be more pleased with these dentists (Dr. Kimberly Dankworth and Dr. Piper Dankworth, in particular). They are very respectful of my personal hangups about dentistry. Everybody who works in the office is friendly. The dentists are the Dankworth family: mom, dad, and their daughter. They seem to genuinely love dentistry, which is weird. Perhaps they're really human-like robots. The young, pretty hygenists have very helpful suggestions that have improved my dental hygene without flossing! The dentists have not lectured me or guilt tripped me or suggested any extra procedures I might not need. They are flexible about scheduling. This office recently changed hands, so I don't think many of the reviews are about the current practice. Warning - this dental office high-star rating and glowing reviews are based on the PREVIOUS dentist (Dr. Ford...who was amazing), not the current people. I think this is highly misleading....at best. The current owners and/or the office manager have a very poor grasp of what insurance plans they are affiliated under. Note: With many insurance plans it's often VERY difficult for a patient to "see" on a website whether or not a particular dentist is actually in-network. The websites often don't work well or the listed providers are outdated (*ask me how I know this). Knowing this, my husband and I took great care to ASK Dental Excellence to check and make sure we were still in-network - something every dental office I have ever been to has been happy to do. My husband's bad experience is detailed in his review. In my case, it was a lot of misdirection and misinformation. First they called me to ask if they could reschedule a scheduled appt. I'd made with Dr. Ford. I said "Sure". Then they called to tell me they were cancelling it since they'd found out that they didn't accept our insurance. Then they called to say "Oh, we're taking your insurance now. Would you like to reschedule?" I declined. Then I get a voice mail from their office a few days later telling me "There's been a cancellation. Would you like to take the appointment?" I know there is always some churn when a new business takes over but this office is a hot mess. read more

So completely upset with this practice. Of course, they up sold deep cleanings for all four quadrants (as they most likely do with many patients). When I first when to see them they had already checked my insurance benefits and didn't even bother telling me that they were not an in-network provider. After telling me I needed the deep cleaning, and had already scheduled the work to be done, once again they failed to tell me that my insurance would not cover the $3,000 worth of cleaning. I paid a large co-pay for each service, then after the third cleaning had ALREADY taken place, they then told me that my insurance would not be covering it and it was my responsibility to pay them the $3,000 balance out of my own pocket. If this were the case, I would have NEVER had them do the (probably unnecessary) deep cleaning. And $3,000 dollars? I could have had the same thing done at a dentist a couple of blocks away for $500. I am disgustEd by the lack of transparency. This family (they own another practice in La Costa), are simply money-hungry and do not do their due diligence with their clients up front. Such a sad moment. My wife has been here (was Dr. Ford) for 30 years and we have never changed insurance once married 11 years ago. The ownership changed a few years ago so we decided to stay. Veronica, front office staff, never mentioned that we would be receiving checks from Delta Dental and that we should be giving those checks to Oceanside Dental Excellence. Typically we see the EOBs in the mail and know they are not a bill so we discard them. Little did we know that there were live checks in there. We had to talk to Delta Dental to find out this information because ODE is OUT OF NETWORK. The dentist was kind and pleasant which is unfortunate because Veronica makes this place unwelcoming. She is headstrong and rude. Does not let the patient speak when they are trying to convey a problem. This practice could be great if they understood there billing better and communicated effectively. read more

MILITARY DEPENDENTS... STAY AWAY.... I called this place asking if they accepted United Concordia which is the dental insurance we get through the military. They told me the did and I made my appointment. Once I got there they accessed what I would need done and told me that after my insurance coverage I needed to pay 125 dollars right there and the rest would be covered by my insurance. About two weeks later I received a bill for 350 dollars !!!! I kept calling trying to get ahold of someone in charge of billing but never could. Eight months later I finally have someone reaching out to me just because they're wanting the money. During this phone call I was informed that they DONT take United Concordia !! That there must have been some kind of confusion and that I'm now responsible for their error. Why in the world would I go to a place that doesn't take my insurance so that I can just pay for all of it out of pocket ?! That doesn't make any sense. With just my husbands income and 4 children I would never go somewhere that doesn't accept my insurance. But now they're trying to scam 350 dollars from us. Will definitely be talking to someone on base to make sure this doesn't happen to other military families. read more

I needed a new dentist, and had put it off for too long. I went to this business, and was pleasantly surprised, Let's face it, going to the dentist can be painful! I had an exam, and was set up for a deep cleaning, as I said before, it had been a while. I opted to do my whole mouth in one sitting, and my hygenist Natasha was professional, cheerful, and most of all, considerate of my comfort. I'm a new patient of Dr. Ford and from my first phone call to make an initial appointment until I walked out the door after my initial consultation I received the best treatment and care! Dr. Ford and his team were very friendly, warm, caring and knowledgeable. I hardly had any questions as everything was explained to me step by step during the process. I was "in the know" about my treatment at all times. While getting my teeth x-rays Shawna made the process seem like a piece of cake and made me feel at ease and we never had to take a single x-ray twice! I also loved the fact I could see my x-rays right there in front of me once they were complete. Pam, the hygienist was very friendly and offered gentle advice on how to better perfect my brushing and flossing habits with out being judgmental about my current hap-hazard brushing and flossing techniques in which I confessed to her were sub-par. Dr. Ford was very thorough about explaining my treatment plan and took the time to sit with me and explain everything in a way that wasn't technical but easy to understand. He even showed me pictures of my teeth on a monitor there in the procedure room and described what I was seeing and what we could do moving forward. Never did I feel pressured to have more work done then what was needed and my options moving forward were explained to me in a direct and honest approach. I took away with me all the information I needed to understand what was to be expected no matter what services I chose to pursue in improving my smile moving forward. While I was in the exam room, Maritza at the front desk was working on getting me all the information I needed to understand what was covered through my company's dental insurance plan. She explained step by step what was covered and the percentage of what my company's plan was willing to cover for various general procedures. I was appreciative that she took the time and effort to break this information down and explain it to me in a friendly manner. Walking out of the office I felt great about my choice in choosing a dentist and feel confident that I will be getting the best care moving forward.
