After a year and a half, we discovered some rot in the basement floor timbers which we realized COULD NOT be ignored. We came to learn of J&S Carpentry & Construction and of their reputation. We invited their president, Jeff Schultz, to take a look at the situation and to estimate the extent of the repairs required and their cost. Jeff provided a detailed repair estimate, and what seemed to us a fair cost, considering the vital nature of work. As is often the case, as Jeff began the work, he discovered the situation was more extensive than he'd foreseen. The repair, including replacement of the rotted timbers, required his installation of several pressurized timbers, all supported above the foundation by mortar. While the repairs, originally estimated to require 3 days, finally required 4, the work was professionally accomplished. With its complexity, we were grateful that we'd contracted a bona fide Construction professional to do this vital work. We now enjoy the confidence that our home has been returned to full health. We were impressed and comforted by how much of the repair work Jeff himself actually performed in this project. Jeff's by-line is "J&S stands for Job Satisfaction." WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. Placed $17K order for Cambria quartz countertops with…read moreGerrityStone/HomeDepot and it's been a nightmare. Day of order delivery, GerrityStone calls us to tell us that they broke our quartz countertop at their warehouse. We ask them how much longer it would take to get an unbroken countertop. General Manager Mark Capuano tells us we need to receive the two broken pieces with a seam because "contractually he can put a seam anywhere he wants." Mr. Capuano offers us a "$250 gift certificate for a nice dinner" on our $17K order. We say no. He asks us what we want? We ask for our original unbroken countertop order to be fulfilled. He tells us that'll cost an additional $3,000. He asks if we would receive the broken countertop with an additional seam. We don't want to take the broken countertop, but we'll take it if we're given $2K in compensation. He tells us this discussion is a waste of a time and hangs up on us. GerrityStone comes back and offers us $500 to receive the broken countertop. We refuse and are still waiting to hear from them. Addendum * In GerrityStone's document, it specifically states "Seam placement should be discussed during the in-home template appointment...Final seam placement is at the discretion of the professional, and seam location may be able to be moved or eliminated in particular circumstances...Additional seams may be required based on the ability to maneuver a piece into position at the installation site." We reviewed and approved the single seam placement for our L-shaped kitchen countertop. GerrityStone is not moving a seam, they're introducing another seam due to damage to the quartz countertop under their supervision at their warehouse. Doesn't GerrityStone have insurance for damage like this? GerrityStone's website says "we will only be satisfied when you are"....we are definitely not satisfied.

Nancy never made us feel like we were inconveniencing her and really took the time to make sure it was exactly what we wanted. It's clear she's been in the business for a while now, and she is someone whose opinion you can trust. Nancy came directly to our house to take measurements and made every step simple for us as it was the first big home project we'd ever tackled. The experience was very personal, which I don't think you get with all design companies. Responses were quick and prices also extremely reasonable for a good quality project. When i went to look at his final design it was wrong. I pointed out the sink base wouldn't fit. So he placed a smaller cabinet in its place. I didn't think anything of it, he was suppose to be the professional, but when it showed up it was way to small and the sink wouldn't fit into it nor would the doors open completely. we would have had to scoop the top of the cabinet to make it fit. I didn't do it thinking he would of taking it back since this was on him, but we did cut the back piece, which was just cheap ply wood. He wouldn't take it back so i got stuck with that... He did come back out to take new measurements for a new cabinet, which i had to pay for. Seems there's no accountability at this company. This was a gross lack of due diligence on his part. Once the new cabinet came in, which was late by a week, it was to big and we had to cut into the dry wall to make it fit and this cause a domino effect and we had to do the same to the following cabinet so they would match. Also the backing to the island was about 3/16th thick, very cheap and very thin. I'll have to go get my own backing, someone would eventually put a hole in that piece. Over all very dissatisfied with my experience and the product they sold me.
