Charming! We have been vacationing here for 20 years when it was San Simeon Pines resort. The upgrades were super nice! Bed was extremely comfortable and pillows were fluffy and supportive. Loved the bathtub and room was clean. Very friendly staff. Enjoyed the fire pit and Adirondack chairs outside. We enjoyed our stay more than the last coupe of trips to SSP! Keurig coffee was weak but complimentary continental breakfast coffee was much better. This is a beautiful place to stay and we will definitely return!! read more

This recently remodeled establishment is now a wonderful place to enjoy Cambria from. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable and quite lovely. The restaurant is a good option for those not wanting to venture out at night. Still working on getting their beer and wine license but byo was offered. With croquet and bocce and gas fire pits on a warm evening a great place to enjoy the good life. Will be back! read more

We stayed in the Oceanview Lonestar Cabin Great location and beach access! The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the fireplace with pre-made fire bag was a nice touch! I have to say, I was amazed by how quiet the room was (especially since the property is sandwiched between Highway 1 and Moonstone Beach Drive). A bit odd to have the bathtub open to the room. However, there was a walk-in shower in the bathroom. Note that this is a partial oceanview room. Due to the trees and park across the street, a full ocean view is not possible from this property from what i could tell. Very well-appointed property, beautiful landscaping, and the heated pool looked very inviting. The Cantina was solid for breakfast. Service was quick and the everything was fresh and tasty. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Giving this 4 stars for the setting itself. LOVED the activities and fire pits. Super clean place too. They have done a great job with the ambiance onsite and in the rooms. Though I didn't love the the lack of heat (they only provide a floor heater) and didn't love that our TV didn't work (they offered to fix it but I'm not a fan of having people in my room once I check in) and lastly didn't love being checked in 50 mins after check in time. I'll likely give this place another try but not in the cold months. read more

I do not recommend this hotel at all. All staff have different responses to same questions...Lies. Told about filthy room... They didn't care. Trash was not emptied from previous reservation. Note the ? in one of the drawers. Dead mouse. Paper towels reflect the filth on the floors. Asked for extra towels, never delivered. Tables in courtyard dirty. We had to clean that too. Promised early check in and that didn't happen. The day we left it was interesting to see new reservation people were allowed in same room before 1:00 pm. Loved this hotel! I stayed in a room with a fireplace and a footed bathtub.The decor was beautiful and the room spotless. The bed was extremely comfortable dressed with soft linens, perfect pillows and a lovely comforter. Nice big screen TV, chairs by the fireplace, and a patio made this a favorite place to stay while discovering the friendly town of Cambria. The grounds are nice with fire pits, chairs and outdoor shuffleboard. I especially loved the windmill and footbridge in the side meadow. Start by reading through Richard R.'s review because ours was almost exactly the same. We had one of their "suites" complete with a kitchen in which most of the cabinets didn't close, 4 different chairs around the table, and bare minimum kitchen amenities. In the "living room" one entire wall was a stone fireplace that didn't have a speck of anything to burn in it. Two very uncomfortable chairs, a large coffee table, and a cold/hard futon that was obviously supposed to be the sofa - one low wattage lamp, zero TV. Bedroom which was so dark I had to keep moving my suitcase around just to see what was inside. Two lamps, and the only TV in the place which we had to call the office about because we couldn't make it work. No clock of any kind. Sliding back door opening onto a sad, dirty little patio which was on the street - yes loud. Bathroom had some sort of mirror light...period. Shower door wouldn't completely close and drain so clogged up that I thought it was literally going to overflow before I was finished showering. By the time we were ready for bed the bottom of our feet were black - gross. Give me a break and either burn this place down or spend some major funds on a complete overhaul! read more

I stayed at this place since 1970!! I grew up coming here for Easter break so I am very familiar with this very motel. When I originally stayed her it was very much like a motel. The new owners have done an amazing job upgrading this place to the boutique level. The small things add up. Cute bars of soap. Wood in the fireplace. And welcome mugs because we were celebrating our second anniversary here. Amazing linens!! Loved the decor and especially the bed spread and blanket. It's cold in the winter here and the heater did a great job however I was extra comfy on this perfect soft bed and with a heavy comforter. Adorable fireside pits to enjoy with family and an easy walk to the beach under the bridge or Across the street. I used to tidepool here. So fun. Great job with the tub and shower ! They spent so much effort on the details and getting this place right, but they totally missed the mark on the breakfast. I actually thought that the quality was pretty good, but it looked like it was just thrown on the tables. With a little more care, it could really elevate the experience. Problem 1. I was unable to open the shower door. The repairmen was fixed, but NOT fixed I could not close this door. When showering, the water came from the shower flooded bath room. My sentiments about the 'suite' match other comments/reviews. RM 148. The living area is unusable really because the furniture is so uncomfortable and there's nothing to do. No TV. One of the drapes was non functional. The shower drained so slowly my wife was afraid it'd flow into the bath. Walking barefoot on the floor turned the bottom of your feet dark brown. The lighting was atrocious. The TV control needed to have the sensor unplugged/replugged to get the TV to work. No where NEAR worth $350 per night. read more

Stayed here for two nights for mine and my husbands wedding anniversary. Such a great find. The hotel is newly renovated and has so many things to do. On sight they have shuffleboard, horseshoes, fire pits, a game room and close private access to the beach. S'more kits are available at the hotel lobby to make around the fire pits. They also have vending machines for sodas and ice. The rooms were great: spacious and clean and the beds were super comfortable. Bathrooms had spacious showers with good quality hygiene items. Also includes makeup removing wipes, qtips and cotton balls.. Such a cute spot will be recommending to friends and family. They have a wonderful restaurant The Canteen. Breakfast was good and the dinner we had was amazing! The chef definitely knows what he is doing. The event staff was also friendly and very accommodating to our needs. read more

When I checked in, the front desk guy, Chris, was totally overwhelmed and rude. He told me that he was very busy training, checking people in and doing book work. There was no one else checking in at the moment, but he let me know that he was VERY busy, stressed and important. I don't really want to be the counselor to the guy that is checking me in on vacation. My room wasn't ready despite two phone calls with Chris to let him know our ETA. I asked him if I could use the restroom since my room wasn't ready. "The bathrooms are not open to the public!" ( with an ewww eye roll). So, I said "well, I am guest, not the public." I got a response of "you can't use our bathrooms. You can use the bathrooms in the park across the street." The floor in the room was sticky so I don't know how much they cleaned. I was happy to have my slippers. I also didn't have bar soap. The window in the bathroom was left open, but there was no screen over it. So, I killed a couple of spiders that seemed to sneak inside. I also closed the old window slats. I was excited about the Canteen. Chris seemed annoyed because I didn't know that the restaurant isn't open on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesday, I drove over and it was closed. I asked the front desk and they said it was closed because someone was sick. It is odd that an entire restaurant closes because someone was sick. It is still technically a pandemic so maybe. I was bummed that I didn't get to eat there as I was looking forward to it. Additionally, one night, the fire alarm went off for an hour as there was a fire. This wasn't the properties fault, but it was still an annoyance to listen to an alarm for an hour. Additionally, the TV did not work. I was happy that I brought my ipad. They do have a safe in the wall, which made me feel better about bringing the iPad. The location is great and the property is adorable. The girls at the front desk were lovely. I love that there was firewood and good beer/wine at the desk. The location is awesome. read more

This is a really charming place to stay. Rooms are very nicely decorated with a farm feel. The beds & pillows were really very comfortable. Don't come here expecting a standard hotel room. It is a little quirky (little wall heater - which worked great, heating lamp in bathroom - which we didn't end up needing, & slatted glass beach cottage window in bathroom that doesn't seal - but didn't pose any issues). If you can stay open to the little quirks, it's a very comfortable & charming stay. And did I mention I love the location! In the trees just a short walk to Moonstone Beach! Can't beat it. read more

It is a very nice and clean hotel. Great location, a short distance to the beach and 10 minutes drive to downtown. Everything looks cozy. The stuff is welcoming and helpful. The rooms are a little bit dark but you don't want to spend a lot of time in the them while being in a such beautiful place like Cambria. Breakfast is ok. You can make your own waffles, get some cereal with milk, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and fruit. Of course coffee and tea. It was our second time staying here and we will come back! read more

We were very disappointed with our stay at Oceanpoint. My husband and I had just been to Cambria and stayed at a hotel on Moonstone and decided we would try something different when we brought the kids back. We thought it had to be pretty nice because of how pricey it was. Our room was very small (pictures made it seem roomier and nicer ), not cleaned well, and there were ants in our bed. We were up a lot of the night because of the guests next door. The walls were paper thin and we could not sleep because of how loud they were. So frustrating for all of us. We left pretty tired, frustrated and disappointed. There were so many other places we could have stayed that were less money and so much nicer. We will never return and never recommend it. read more

This is such a great hotel!! The decor is perfect--rustic, cool, eclectic and chic. It's on Moonstone Drive across from the water(no ocean views) but there is access to the beach from the hotel. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, there was breakfast from 7-10 as well as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the game room all day, which is very welcome after being out in the cool Cambria weather all day. You can check out croquet, cornhole, or shuffleboard equipment as well as games like Sorry, Yahtzee, Trouble, and Candyland. The whole experience lives up to the ranch/camp environment and is just as fun, but way more stylish and comfortable. I will definitely be back! read more

We booked our anniversary trip and stay at Oceanpoint thinking it was going to be a wonderful nice place to stay close to the ocean in Cambria, but unfortunately you did not let your guest know you were holding a special event a wedding and due this this the we experience inconvenience after inconvenience. We were told your canteen would be closed on Saturday and could not use the restaurant until Sunday, so we go Sunday morning and it's closed again for a special event for the wedding and was told the restaurant was closed at 10:20 Sunday morning and we couldn't even use our Canteen gift coupon. Saturday afternoon/evening you had the wedding with the event and music going on until 10 pm where we couldn't even enjoy being in our room as our room 239 faces the event so we left the roof so we could have a relaxing time with some peace and quit because that's what we came for. I can't believe you would not notify your guest and let them know in advance like when they book on what we should of expected during their stay. Me being a business owner, that's the least I've would have done and let my guest/customers know. Unfortunately we will not be staying here again and definitely will recommend to everyone one not to stay here and to beware of the unknown situations that Oceanfront does not let you know about. read more

My husband and I have stayed at many locations in Cambria, from basic motels to Airbnbs to higher-end Moonstone beach hotels, and we both agree that this is our favorite so far. We stayed in one of the cabins with a fireplace and tub and it was absolutely wonderful. The fireplace really adds to the hygge-vibe and the clawfoot tub was nothing short of magical. Loved the modern ranch décor but I do wish the bed was softer. (My husband and I both woke up with back pain.) Management, I'd try a mattress topper to soften. We really enjoyed walking the grounds as well, and the proximity to the beach and tide pools is fantastic. We didn't get to use the fire pits or games, but I love that they were there and look forward to using them in the future. We also didn't use the pool because it was chilly out but I would LOVE to see a hot tub (or two) here. Another request would be to provide basic but nice quality continental breakfast for free. There are some fabulous bakeries in town, why not provide a muffin or two, some fruit, eggs, juice? The other option would be to charge a reasonable amount and deliver to the rooms. If I were to pay I'd like the basket to be better than basic quality however. I'd also love the option to get room service, even in the evening. One last note, I'd switch to SLO roast coffee instead of Starbucks. Local is best, always. My husband and I walked into the café, saw that Starbucks was served (at a high price too) and we turned right around. I realize that the ranch renovation and café are new so I hope the management takes these recommendations. We are seasoned travelers to Cambria and would love to continue staying at Ocean Point. One last note, the pet fee is quite high at $75. Please consider lowering to $50. Also, throwing in some dog treats is always nice. We received bandanas on our way out which would have been cute but felt like an afterthought since we were leaving. Overall, we had a really lovely stay at Ocean Point Ranch. I hope that the management is receptive to constructive criticism and continues to improve. Ocean Point with some improvement can be hands down the best place to stay in all of Cambria. read more

The closet was a wooden pole hanging off rope in the entrance, the toilet clean out was sticking out of the bathroom floor, only one lamp in the room. Worst room we have ever stayed in! 1. Our heater was broken and we had to use a space heater in the room. This is not what is expected when you got to a hotel. We were told it would be looked at but it was not. 2. The room was not cleaned and did not have restocked supplies. It was missing towel, shampoo, coffee, rags, and soap. I had to go to the office for supplies. The floors were filthy and had not be vacuumed. We checked in late so there was plenty of time to clean. The fridge had hair in it and smelled of vinegar. 3. We were not informed there was a wedding on site which meant very limited parking, no access to the restaurant on site, and the actual festivities were set up on the walk to moonstone beach. This is something that I should have been told as it directly impacts the stay. 4. The on demand was broken and we did not have access to any movies, only cable. I was told on site I would either get a full refund or I would get a free stay in the future that would be "made very special." I was told at checkout that the manager Darcy would be in touch. I spoke with her on the phone and in person. I provided my information and she never contacted me. When I emailed her she told me I could get a free breakfast upon returning and that I was refunded for HALF of my first of 3 nights. This was a Thursday (the cheapest night) and it would have been about $59 except I was never refunded. Since she is the manager, I took her word and trusted her when she told me how this would be handled. This hotel is not what is advertised and their customer service is horrible.There are several other options for places to stay and I have would bet any of them are better than this establishment. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed for an anniversary trip. The hotel was recently updated, so a bit more modern than other hotels in the area. The lay out is nice at one end of Moonstone Beach Drive. They offer lawn games, outdoor fire pits, a small heated pool and a recreation room with shuffleboard and foosball. They also serve their continental breakfast in this room. The breakfast is sparse, with fresh fruit, small pastries, limited oatmeal, cereal and coffee/tea/orange juice. The rooms are nicely decorated. We I chose the Lone Star Cabin for this trip and was a bit disappointed by the misleading name. I figured since it said "cabin" that it would be a stand alone building, but it was just like any regular room. The only difference from the regular king rooms was this room had a claw foot tub. The room smelled a little bit of smoke when we first entered. There was a fireplace in the room, so I wasn't sure if the previous tenants didn't use it properly or if the smoke came from the nearby outdoor fire pit because we could smell that later in the evening. Our room was on the Moonstone Beach Drive side, so was pretty quiet. I could hear cars on Highway 1, but it was very minimal. In all, I liked this hotel and would definitely stay again. read more

Extremely disappointed! The room layout was nice but unfortunately it was filthy! There were raisins on the rug, so obviously it wasn't swept. The sink had hair in it, as if someone had shaved and it was not cleaned. SO DIRTY!! When I lifted the toilet seat cover, I almost threw up!! Around the seat there was a splash of what looked like dried blood! DISGUSTING!! The night rep was not able to help us. We checked in pretty late and couldn't find another hotel, so I had to clean the restroom!! When we finally got into bed we pulled down the blanket, it was also stained, also with what looked like blood!! I can't express how sicken I felt! We travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels, this by far has been the worst experience!! Fortunately we travel with Lysol, disinfecting wipes and alcohol which we used to clean the room. The family "bunk house" suite at this place was such a pain in our asses. We can see zero reasons to choose this over an air bnb. It's advertised as a comfortable, luxury situation with a price to match. It is at its core an old highway-style motel, I have to concede that it was all cosmetically updated with trendy fake wood tiles, grey paint a la Joanna Gaines etc. and the bedding was comfortable. The staff is smiley, though it thinly veils an underlying attitude of "I hate tourists." But whoever designed the family suite has never had children. I got the impression from the website that there would be a dedicated place for my children to sleep. Not so. It appears they took a regular suite and dropped two sets of bunk beds in the middle of the common area. So if any member of your group is a small child who goes to bed at 7:00, the other 5 of you will be sitting quietly in the dark from that hour. The only bathroom is off the bedroom, so there is no privacy in there, either. And don't get me started on naps. Plus there was a fundamental math problem in the planning of this suite. Beds for 6, full kitchen, but only 4 can eat at the table. No fun to cook a nice meal and eat it in your lap on a bunk bed. Plus there is no salt and pepper, no cooking oil or really anything, so you have to pack in everything you need. I feel like I've been on the most expensive camping trip of my life. By the way, beware the additional adjoining suite that you are told you can add for an additional hundreds of dollars- it adjoins not the common area, but the other bedroom. So you're just increasing the foot traffic in the bedroom, and if you have children in the bunks in the living room they will be waking up everyone in that first bedroom to reach their parents. Ugh. We stayed at Oceanpoint Ranch for our 15th anniversary. This property could be amazing but it needs a TON of work. We stayed in one of the cabins and were disappointed. No lighting, refrigerator cabinet door wouldn't stay closed, room needed to be cleaned and updated, patio "furniture" was a rusted joke, couldn't get fire pit to turn on, I could go on. Basically the entire property needs a massive facelift. And the employees were rude and unhelpful. We will not be staying here again. read more

My rating is a bit harsh, but they could do better. Some of the neighboring motels do. You can't beat the Moonstone Beach Drive location. It is wonderful to wake up near the ocean! Our room was nice and the bed was terrific. But the service could be more attentive. The first thing we noticed about the room was the lack of lighting. It has an entryway light (good), lights in the bathroom (good), and two 60W equivalent bedside lights (inadequate). When we opened the refrigerator door (which has no light) we could barely see in. When I complained they brought in a reading light, which helped quite a bit. I went out and bought some 100W equivalent bulbs for the bedside lights. That helped a lot! Other complaints - there was paper from a straw cover on one of the walkways that didn't get swept up during our entire 5 night visit. The TV remote worked very poorly - I expect because the batteries needed to be replaced. I am sure they would have done that had I asked but we weren't interested enough in TV to bother. read more

The location could scarcely be better--a very short walk to a dream coastline. The property in and of itself is lovely: fire pits, a grass field, some games for kids (we saw more than a few playing them) and relatively quiet. The Cantina Grill (I think that's the name) serves good food. We got the watermelon/feta/arugula salad which was terrific but the service by a guy named Mitch was a horror show; supercilious and seemingly proud of it (I always tip even for takeout but Mitch has me rethinking that--what a tool). So, a lovely property, lovely views, good service (with one notable exception) and great location. Why just three stars? The rooms. At least our room. We had a lower floor and if you're going to stay here, you need to avoid the lower floor at all costs if someone is above you. We had a quiet first night with no one above us and a much, much different experience the following night; a family with a dog. They were fine; mainly just walking around but every step was just really loud no matter what they did. Again, do NOT get a lower room. Additionally, in our room, the refrigerator was buzzing constantly; I just unplugged it at night and plugged it back in during the day when we were out. The heater was a bit weird; sort of like a wall mini-heater. Leave it on for a bit and the room heats up fine. The shower was great. The bed was comfortable. Would we stay here again? Maybe, for the right price and an upper room. read more

Likes- overall the room was comfortable and attractive. The decor was trendy and made you feel at home. We stayed in a fireplace king suite. We found the bed very comfortable. The room was a tad warm but the cool air from outside helped cool it off. Loves- the location is fantastic. Quick walk to the moon stone beach boardwalk and surrounding areas. The grounds are very well maintained and enjoyable to experience. We loved the fire pits! The hotel was full and still very quiet. Needs change- bathroom is really small. Not much they can change about the size, however this is a resort that attracts couples. There was no alternate mirror area to use while spouse/partner/travel mate uses the rest room. There were also limited outlets to use to dry hair while another person was in the bathroom. There was no full length mirror for that once over before heading out. The room is also very dark. Given the open nature of the resort, it's. it a place I would not keep the curtains open for natural light. Area below makeshift clothes hanger is where we needed to keep luggage to be out of the way. There is no light in the area. I had to hang my cell phone flashlight up to try to find my clothes. Overall a wonderful experience and we wouldn't hesitate to go back. If you prefer form over function this is your place! We loved it and for our short stay we didn't mind the small things that were not necessarily ideal. read more
