When we first moved to Rhode Island, we were moving from Hawaii and because of that, our things took almost literally forever to get out to the East coast. This meant that we did not have a washer and dryer for months, and we had to use rental facilities in order to clean our clothes and that is how we found this place. This is not our first rodeo by far. We have had multiple military moves and every time we've had to find a place to do laundry because otherwise you're going to run out of clean clothes real fast. On my first trip out here, I was optimistic and hopeful that we would have an easy time of getting our clothes washed. When I arrived, I was exceedingly dismayed to see how many people were there in contrast with how many units were in the facility. I thought to myself wow, they have a ton of washers and dryers, why are all these people waiting for just a couple washers and dryers? I then very quickly found out that the reason everybody was waiting for one or two particular units was because all the rest of them were broken. I don't know if it's because they don't care to fix their items or they're trying to force people into growing weary and paying them to do their laundry ( which is something they do offer) but I do know that this is very inconvenient for me and was very inconvenient for everybody else. It took me hours to get my laundry done because of how few of their washers and dryers were actually able to do what they are there to do. When I was done with this chapter of my life I was super relieved. I was glad that I didn't have to use one or two units in a giant laundromat of broken washers and dryers and go through all my quarters. Now with covid, I'm even more glad that this chapter of my life is behind me but I feel bad for people who still have to use this facility. There were times when I was there that I also felt unsafe with other people doing their laundry and leering at me or being awkward with personal space and boundary issues. I don't know what they're doing here but it's not great and it's definitely not providing a quality laundry service for aquidneck residents. read more

I have done my laundry here for over 10 years. The place seemed to get an upgrade and that was nice for a bit...however, most of the machines are currently broken and staff have marked roughly 7 or 8 dryers that "can't" be used by patrons. When I asked if I could use one of said marked dryers I was told that I was welcome to go elsewhere with the equivalent of 6 loads of laundry. I then asked the staff if they could remove clothes from dryers that were no longer running and was told that they weren't allowed to do that. There were about 8 dryers that weren't running with clothes in them and literally all of the other dryers were full/running. I just don't understand why nothing works here anymore. Very frustrating. To be told to go elsewhere at that point was just honestly disrespectful. read more

It's nice to have a laundromat that is open 24 hours a day. I wish it were cleaner. There's a lot of soap scum and buildup on the washer doors. Washing clothes here is a bit pricey too, and I think it's because of the frequency with which the machines are broken due to bad laundering practices on the part of the customers. Machine repairs add up! I don't think this is the fault of the staff, rather the customers are not being clean and conscientious. Fellow customers, please use more consideration and clean up after yourselves. Also, please don't use so much detergent. Clean out your pockets before washing your clothes. If you're wearing an old bra that has its underwire coming out, please buy a new bra instead of breaking all the washing machines with your old bras that are shedding your underwires in the machine. You can get a decent bra at Marshalls for less than $20. read more

I was in Newport from out of town when I visited this laundromat to do a small load of laundry. Most machines have a credit card swipe option in addition to coin operation. I used my debit card in a machine that stated 1 wash was $5.50. When I checked my card statement later, I had a $20 charge on my debit card from Ocean State Laundry. I had used coins to dry. I tried to call afterwards to try to resolve the overcharge and no one has picked up or returned my voicemail. Really disappointed that this business likely regularly dishonestly overcharges its customers. read more

I dropped off a fair amount of laundry to be washed and they were able to get it all done the same day when I didn't expect it for another 2-3 days. They fold the clothes and put them in plastic bags which makes it easy to carry. Plus they don't overload the bags so nothing rips or falls out. The only downside is pricing. I called a few times to find out the pricing, but I kept getting different amounts per pound. In the end, it ended up being $1.10 per pound with a minimum of 10lbs. However what they didn't tell me is that only applies to clothes, towels, and sheets. Blankets, rugs, and everything else is charged on a piece by piece basis. Plus if there is an "excessive" amount of hair, they charge extra. It would have been nice to know this information before I unloaded everything. A website or a picture of the pricing online would be helpful. I like the work that was done but it wasn't worth the price I ended up paying. read more

Now filing formal complaint with Rhode Island Attorney General and Better Business Bureau after complaint filed with Middletown Police Department. May I have a minute? Let me take you on an extensional ride. Imagine loosing your electricity twice? Now what can one do? There's always hand washing, flat boards, and water basins. However, lucky for me Ocean State Laundry is nearby for an unfortunate inconvenience such as not being able to do your laundry at home. I'm Guatemalan and was highly offended by the comments made by another yelper, because she encountered people who didn't qualify to be able to do their laundry along side of her. Clean, well lit laundry, right on the main drag. Plenty of high quality machines, I've never had to wait to wash or dry. There are two change machines that take $1, $5, $10 & $20 bills and give quarters. Vending is limited but there is a soap & soda machine if you need a drink or detergent. I see wifi but its locked. A normal load wash cost $3.75 with a dryer starting at $.75. There are larger machines to wash and dry larger items, looks like they take a good size comforter or such. A previous yelper commented on the laundry lady so I will also. First of all she's an older gal working in a laundry mat, what do you expect? Gloria Vanderbilt? Yes, she's different, but if you need help she's right there to help; I think that's why she watches you, she wants to help. She also will do your laundry for $1.35 a Lb. which makes me wonder why I'm sitting here writing this and not having her do it....? So, why five stars? I haven't had many experiences that I've wanted to give zero stars. This is one of them. Dropped off my dry cleaning on a Wednesday, promised back in a Friday. I emphasized that I needed it Monday morning. No problem! Or so they said. Came in Friday. Nope don't have it. Not really concerned that I needed it or was promised it then. Don't worry, we'll call you later and get it to you. No call. Went on Saturday. Nope still nothing. But don't worry we'll get it to you tonight. No call. (Seeing a trend here?) Went in Sunday. We are on an extended vacation staying in our camper after traveling from North Carolina to visit family. The last thing we wanted to do was laundry! Ocean State Laundry takes care of the many people staying in their boats in Newport, so they have a significant routine. While they can't honor the four hour service due to a lack of help and it being their busy time, they were able to do two day and one day service. Their prices were reasonable as the difference between doing it ourselves and having them do it was only about $20 and well worth it! I will use their service again if we are in the area on vacation. read more

Well, I hate to leave a negative review but, here's one. We dropped two shirts off to have dry cleaned. Said they would be ready Wednesday. We went to pick them up, they stated they hadn't been delivered. She said they would be delivered that afternoon and to come back either late Wednesday. Well it's Thursday afternoon and guess what? No shirts. They said they opened later this morning and missed the morning delivery. Said they should be there after five today. Seems a bit much to me. Take your business elsewhere. This laundromat lost my laundry and then blamed me for it! They returned my order without a set of Queen sheets and half a King set of sheets, but included someone else's old sheets. Extremely unprofessional and discourteous in handling the situation. They excepted no responsibility for the mistake they made and actually accused me of losing or misplacing the missing sheets. They offered me a $30 credit which does not cover the cost of the sheets they lost. Additionally, I would not go back to them for laundering services. When my cleaning lady and I called them, the person on the phone told us to take our business elsewhere and then hung up on us. Stay away from this laundromat! read more

I stopped by today. I was pleased and impressed. Several washers and dryers take plastic! I don't tend to have a stash of quarters, and rarely carry cash-so having washer/dryers that take plastic is a huge benefit to me. I managed to fit my nearly month's worth of clothes (yeah...that was the motivation for going there) into one massive 9 load washer. I split them into two 5 load washers as well. Total time: 50mins including wash and dry. The place was clean. The machines worked well. The staff members were friendly. The prices seem reasonable to me. Before moving to Rhode Island, it seemed like $1.50/load was pretty standard for wash and then about $1/load for dry. The 9 load washer for $13 or $13.50 was a deal. The 5 load dryers for $1.50 were awesome. I'll be back...in less than a month. read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would. Let me explain.. dry cleaning service is great however, the pick up is never on time. I'll be given a day to pick up even though I say there's no hurry-When I get there to pick up.. even a day later when told it will be ready.. Its.. not.. ready. I've been coming here since October-since we've moved here.. and I've never experienced a day where it's on time. Here's why I'm DEFINITELY not coming back to this place. I took 4 of my favorite bell bottom pants to be hemmed. I was told pick it up this day-ok, it'll be a week. I go to pick it up after a week, it's not even there. I go back the next day like I was told-I pick it up and take it home. Its never been hemmed. I take it back. She says in a week-Ok a week.. I'm fine with that. A week goes by and I go to pick it up, take it home.. oh it's hemmed alright. Hemmed to where when I put them all on they were all uneven!!!!! Long story short I'm out $100+ dollars, here's why.. 4 of them was bought at $26 each and then I paid for a botched hem job and paid $40 for that. I leave my number to the gal who works there (about 2 weeks now) waiting for a manager to call me back so I can explain what happened and possibly get a credit, but never got that call. Had I got that call I wouldn't be leaving this review. Give the "credit" to the person who does alterations-for more training. Merry Christmas and won't be seeing you next year!!! read more

Worst dry cleaning experience I've ever had! I dropped off some clothes to be dry cleaned and one item to be tailored. I specifically asked for a call or notification since the employee didn't know how long anything would take. I waited almost a month and a half. I pretty much waited til I was just fed up with waiting and went in to check on the status. My items were waiting for me. Of course, no communication to their customers. I checked and my item was never tailored so I let the employee know and she took it back and said she would have to talk to her manager about it. She said she would give me a call with a date it would be done. Another month goes by and STILL NO CALL! I finally went back in to check and my item is no where to be found! A different employee said she would talk to her manager to figure out where my item is and of course she stated she would give me a call when she finds out anything. My husband used this laundromat while we were waiting a few weeks for delivery of our washer/dryer. He was very happy with his experience - machines were clean & customer service was excellent. He had a problem with one of the machines & the person helping him moved the clothes from the bad machine to one that worked while he stepped out & even put in money for it, not wanting us to pay for the inconvenience. I've been coming here since I first moved to Newport in August. The hours are great as they're 24hours for self service. I typically come on Saturdays or Sunday's and only once ran into a busy time where I needed to come back later. Even the women who work here said it was unusually busy that day. Speaking of the employees. They are extremely nice and helpful and keep the place extremely clean for the amount of people in and out. One of the major plus sides is half of their machines takes credit cards! No more scrounging for quarters! Make sure to have them show you how to work the dryers as there are additional options for minutes you want. I've never used the drop off service but I've watched them do it. They seem to have quite the system and fold everything. Compared to some of the other laundromats nearby this place is definitely above and beyond. They also have a nice sitting area with a TV, magazines, vending machines for snakes, and drinks... I recommend this to anyone local or even visiting needing laundry done! Stopped in twice recently while in town for the military. Greeted by a handshake from the owner, which is something you don't see too often nowadays. When I walked in I saw him wiping and cleaning the machines in the self service section. He obviously took great pride in the business; the place was immaculately clean and well run. The women running the place are very bossy. Every time I come there, they tell me what washer to use and what dryer to use and are not very nice. They did not see how much soap I used but still have the nerve to say I put in too much, without knowing. They don't tell any of the women that come there how to use their machines but for some reason they must think because I am a man, I never did laundry before. They don't do it in a nice well-meaning helpful manner. I have been doing laundry for over 30 years and I don't need two women telling me how to do it. They are just not very nice.
