Service was good, I just wish they would have informed me that the novacaine you receive with this procedure is much more "intense" than the novacaine you receive for a typcial cavity filling at your dentist's office. Never having this procedure before, I was totally not prepared for the shock of the intense burning feeling that shot up the side of my face when they administered the novacaine. It hurt and scared the heck out of me - I have to say I was shaking uncontrollably after that and still can't believe that happened without warning. I came to understand why they have to do that but I would have liked to have been given a warning before hand. Once the novacaine had numbed me, the rest of the procedure was totally pain free for which I will always be grateful. read more

I left my dentist's office and drove to Ocean State fully knowing it was a slim chance of being seen that day (for a broken tooth & root canal - possibly 2 root canals) but I thought I could at least make an appointment and complete any required paperwork. The receptionist was very rude & acted like I was bothering her. Every time the phone rang she complained quite loudly that she was the "ONLY" person working (despite about 5 other ladies behind her). She kept questioning me over and over again about what procedures I needed. When I repeated what my dentist had told me I needed, she called my dentist's office to confirm. I suggested that I assumed the Endodontist would also exam my situation and either confirm what the dentist had said or suggest something else, she pretty much bit my head off saying there was only one Endodontist on duty and he didn't have time for that. I either knew what I wanted or didn't. She told me that the next available appt was a week out and if I didn't like the day/time then it would be over a month's wait. I took the appointment but left feeling so awful. I was already in so much pain and then to be treated like that on top of it just made everything worse. I tried calling Ocean State to cancel my original appt - no one would answer the phone. I reached out through their website's "contact us" and simply got an email saying "Your all set and canceled appt." Honestly, if they are that busy that a little bit of kindness isn't offered and I couldn't depend on the doctor taking doing some due diligence to confirm the treatment plan...then I felt like I would have been in & out like on a factory conveyor belt and probably worse off afterwards. I called my dentist for a different referral and then called RI Endodontics in Warwick. I was treated so kindly on the phone. The receptionist was so compassionate and got me in the next business day. I was treated so kind and gently. I felt genuinely cared for. read more

I was feeling pain on and off for several month in my tooth, and was hoping it would just go away on it's own during the pandemic. Unfortunately, it got worse and I could no longer ignore it. I went to see my regular dentist, but he wasn't able to treat it himself as the office was just operating with a skeleton staff, I was referred to this office and was told they had an immediate opening with Dr. Morgantown. The front desk people seemed nice enough, the dental assistant seemed to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder at first due to an honest misunderstanding, but that quickly cleared up. I ended up seeing Dr. Gaudette instead, and he seemed pleasant enough. The procedure was completed in under an hour from start to finish without pain, although I did have some issues with my cheek hurting. Would I recommend this office? You bet! Don't go here expecting for a fancy office. There are no TV's in the treatment area. This is like a root canal factory. You'll need to return to your primary dentist to have a crown done if needed. read more

Dr. Morganti is a guy you only want to see once every couple of decades. But when it's been 15 years or so, you remember he was a pleasant and professional practitioner then and still is now. I felt very confident and the root canal therapy was like a cucumber massage. Okay it was not that, but there is only minimal discomfort. Numbing is adequate but not excessive. You are done in what feels like forty five minutes. After the initial visit, when the numbing wore off I took two OTC pain killers which was all the pain management needed and only on the one occasion. The second visit you think is going to be quick but it's about the same amount of time given what needs to be done. On this occasion his staff I recall member was friendly and Dr. Morganti very polite. If he asks you to turn right a little and of course you do so, he still says thank you with appreciation. You leave feeling " that went well" and the price is reasonable and you don't pay until the final day so that might ease your mind too. read more

This is me reaching out to others about a situation that occurred to me and my daughter this morning. I was referred to Ocean State Endodontics expecting to get the support needed for my daughter for her root canal procedure but J. Patrick Morganti our assigned DMD didn't even let it happen. This doctor did not give us one chance to even settle without making us feel unwelcome. Staring at us with disgust and having no professional attire to him whatsoever (this doctor had on a golf shirt and basketball shorts on). It looked like he didn't even want to take care of my daughter. My daughter like most children would be in an environment like this, was anxious and afraid of getting the numbing shot(novocaine). Keep in mind that this is her first root canal ever, so you would think that someone who has been in this field of work would understand and try to de-escalate the fear that she had but it was the exact opposite. I tried reassuring my daughter with the nurse that it was only going to take few seconds of pain and it'll be fine right after but he quickly shut it down by saying "No it won't. Don't lie to her it's going to take more than 15 seconds and 5-6 shots." freaking her even more out. At this point he's becoming impatient with her and tries to give her the shot but when my daughter tried to get one more moment to calm down after bawling her eyes out and asked for a second please and he just goes into a full melt down and tells us "Im done. I'm not doing this shit." And walked right out of the room. Who treats their patients like that? Who treats a minor like that? It wasn't like she was going ballistic and kicking in and out of the chair. She was just nervous. Even the nurse that was with us tried to console her with me while this doctor was getting frustrated with us. The way he treated us was so unprofessional and micro aggressive. read more

The first part of my experience with this office was horrible. Kaitlyn and Selena were not helpful, rude, impatient and would really benefit from a customer service training class. Had I not been in so much pain and needed to get in right away I would have decided to go somewhere else based on my initial experience with those two. Once I got to the office for my appointment and met Dr. Reynolds she was very kind and patient and I thanked her for that after my visit. I have been referred by my dentist for a root canal consultation. I have not met any of the doctors yet, but as far as the customer service goes I only have one word: AWFUL! Just like someone said, I had an incredible rude person on the phone insisting that I give her a tooth number, and kept interrupting me when I told her that it wasn't on the referral. Another one named Selena was equally rude and very unprofessional. They do not know how to treat new patients with respect and I'm hoping that by reading all the reviews, the doctors become aware that their practices are getting hurt with the people who are answering the phone. Again, I'm not talking about the dental assistants or hygienist as I have not met any of them. Just by this experiences, I am not interested of going there anymore. Had a root canal yesterday with Dr. Reynolds. It was a very positive experience. I had absolutely no discomfort during the procedure at all. When the Novocaine wore off, I had absolutely no discomfort and the following morning, I have no pain or discomfort at all. It's not even sore. You would never know I had a root canal yesterday. The staff member I dealt with during my initial call to make an appointment was disinterested, abrasive, she kept sighing throughout the call and would often say in a rude manner, "I already told you". I had a positive experience with Dr Reynolds for a root canal years ago so when I learned I needed another one I was sure to call her office. She explains every step of the process as she is working so you are never surprised or uncomfortable. She explains everything thoroughly and is patient with any questions you have. Unfortunately the office receptionist was very rude, loudly discussing that I should have arrived for my appointment 20 minutes prior to her coworkers when I sat 5 feet from the desk, when I was there at the correct time and had a confirmation text message with the correct time sent to me that day. She was very short with me and didn't look up from her screen to speak to me. If I had never been to the office before it would have turned me off, but because I knew Dr. Reynolds did great work I didn't let it get to me. read more

I had a root canal procedure with Dr. Morganti today and had a great, trouble-free experience with him and his assistant Kim. The procedure was painless as promised, took about an hour, and both Dr. Morganti and Kim were very professional, polite, concientious, and solicitous in their care and interactions. This was my first root canal and I was rather nervous, but they were very good about explaining the procedure, what to expect, and I became very relaxed. If you're concerned by the other reviews about not getting Drs. Gaudette and Reynolds, don't worry, Dr. Morganti is just fine and I recommend him without any reservations whatsoever. read more

Referred here by our family dentist for a root canal, which they specialize in. The desk staff was polite and respectful. Dr Morganti and his assistant did a great job, explaining the process. It is pretty obvious they know just what they are doing. Also, I like that they use the latest extremely low dose xray equipment as well. The root canal went fine, zero pain or issues. I had a root canal by Dr. Maura Reynolds today at Ocean State Endodontics. She was the rudest health care professional I have EVER had. She told me to raise my right hand if I felt pain. As she put in the dam,it hurt, so I raised my hand. "Can you not hit me in the face?!" She snapped. I was shocked! I said I wouldn't hit you. "We'll, you did!" She snapped again! I was already a nervous wreck about the root canal,this made it 10x worse. I told her to take the dam out and she then offered more novacane. From then on she was acceptable to me, but so rude and unprofessional to the hygienist! I probably would not have written this review if she had just been rude to me but her unprofessional attitude and behavior was astonishing! Ocean State Endodontics might be a good place as long as you don't see Dr. Reynolds. read more

Gratefully, I was able to make a same day emergency appointment and was seen at exactly that time. Dr. Morganti and his staff, Kim and Jasmine, were amazing. The assistants were friendly, polite, caring and informative. Dr. Morganti was sensitive to my nervousness and was calming and gentle as he softly hummed to himself during the procedure. He continually checked in with me to make sure I was ok. He informed me step-by-step about what he was doing. For as "good" as a root canal can be, my experience at Ocean State Endo was absolutely excellent. I highly reccomend. read more

Well, I'm embarrassed to say that in my five years living in the Ocean State, I've been to Ocean State Endodontics at least four (or five) times. I really eat too much candy. I'm almost a "senior" and I eat candy still like a candy-addicted child. End result, I get cavities, lotsa cavities, I eventually needs crowns and bridges, and then, the inevitable root canal. Enter Ocean State Endodontics. They have fit me in as an emergency patient on several occasions. They are kind and helpful. Maura Reynolds is the endodontist I "always" see :-) and she never fails to make me feel comfortable and not too scared. The root canal is the best part of the experience. (Actually fairly painless after the novacaine) The worst parts are a.) the tooth ache that brought you there in the first place and b.) paying the bill - even what is left of it if you happen to be fortunate enough to have dental insurance. Root canals do not come cheaply, but as you most likely know, when you need one, you REALLY need one and you need it FAST. This is where they are so wonderful - they feel your pain and they fit you in. Maura Reynolds works both in the Cranston office as well as the Middletown Office. I would travel across the Bay to see her in Middletown if need be, but so far it has not been necessary. If a root canal can ever be considered a "good" experience, Ocean State Endodontics (and Maura Reynolds, specifically) is where you will have to go if you live in RI and you have a really really bad toothache and you need a root canal. I have raved about her to my friends, my family, and my dentist (who I also keep in a fancy late model car) and he, in turn, has referred many of his patient to her. read more

They were able to squeeze me in the day of my consultation due to a tight scheduling frame on my part, and were very informative and friendly. My root canal procedure went amazingly well. Dr. Gaudette and his assistant, Tina were caring, patient, well-trained and superb in their treatment. They explained each step thoroughly and made sure that I had no pain whatsoever. No one likes the thought of a root canal, but if you must have one, Dr. Gaudette is the endodontist to see. I was truly amazed at how well the procedure went and how great I felt afterwards and hours later. Bravo! I set an appointment with Dr. Morganti for 8:45am, and as a courtesy I called the office around 8:25 to let them know I'll be 10 mins late. Literally, I'll arrive at either 8:50 or 8:55 at the latest. I spoke to I think, Janet was the name I heard and she put me on hold and then apparently I was transferred to a woman that picked up and said "YEAH???" I said, hello? she said who's this? and I explained my situation. Her name was Elaine and she was so rude. When I told her I was going to be late she said "You can't do that. You'll have to reschedule then." which, i can understand the Dr has other patients behind me and I'll be messing up his schedule. but, there's a much more pleasant way you can address that. So because of that, I am not interested at all in coming here and I will find another office that will treat their new clients better. read more

I called because I needed an emergency root canal and the secretary asked me to describe my symptoms. I told her severe headaches and pain and she said "that's not one of the symptoms???" are you kidding?! My tooth was VERY inflamed. She was VERY unpleasant and rude in person as well. I had a large filling in one of my molars and it weakened the remaining tooth to the point where it broke down to the gum. My dentist told me I would need a root canal followed by a crown in order to preserve the remaining tooth. Since the tooth was not causing me any pain and was in the back of my mouth, my dentist said I could wait a bit in order to save the several thousand dollars it would take to get all of the work done. Fast forward 9 months and the tooth began to bother me, so I called Ocean State Endodontics. A friend suggested Dr Gaudette to me and when I called I was disappointed to learn he was scheduled for vacation and could not see me for several weeks. Rather than waiting that long, I opted to see Dr J Patrick Morganti who was available the very next day. That is where my troubles began. The dental assistant who brought me back into the office displayed the emotional warmth of a prison warden paired with an only slightly less severe appearance of " The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". She alternately read and recited from memory, a standard script about the procedure. She did not make eye contact and seemed to become annoyed when I asked her a question. The only ray of sunshine in this experience was the second girl who was being trained by the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. (GWDT) Enter Dr Morganti who spoke to me briefly before commencing the novocaine injections. This was the last time he would speak to me directly, instead referring to me in the third person, to the GWDT. The only time the GWDT diverged from her script or displayed any sense of mirth was when she said, " Now, I'm going to see just how much you can still feel", before testing my pain tolerance with something icy cold. My subsequent levitation from the seat resulted in an expression resembling joy, albeit brief, to sneak onto her otherwise stony face. After a second round of novocaine, I was sufficiently numb for the procedure and so it began. Not a single word was spoken to me during the procedure to explain what was being done, to inquire after my well-being or to give me some sense of how much longer it would take. Whereas during a regular filling, some garbled speech is possible, the hardware used during a root canal coupled with enough novocaine to render one's tongue into a block of cement, makes speech impossible. In desperation, I typed out a question "almost done?" Onto my cell phone and held it up for GWDT to read. When I held up the phone, she immediately barked "PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN!". I gestured for her to read the message; Dr Morganti said, "what's she want?". She relayed my question which was responded to with an "uhh, no" followed by a mirthless chuckle. Finally, the procedure was complete. I knew this because Dr Morganti left the room. He said not one word to me. GWDT handed me an Aftercare sheet of paper which told me that I didn't have any infection and that I should take ibuprofen or Tylenol for any pain afterwards. The novocaine wore off about 4 hours later and I realized that the side of my tooth/filling was mostly a protruding jagged edge that sliced the underside of my tongue every time I spoke, swallowed or ate/drank anything. I called to report this and was asked why I didn't say anything before I left the office. Ummm, because I couldn't even feel my face, much less the underside of my tongue, when I left the office. Dr Morganti was too busy to see me that afternoon so I had to wait an agonizing 18 hours before he would be able to see me at 9 AM. I was so happy to see the assistant who greeted me the second time around. She seemed like a very nice and normal woman. Dr Morganti, however, was his charming self and told me I had probably bitten my tongue. That would be quite a feat considering the tiny slashes on the underside of my tongue. When he looked into my mouth, he quickly saw the problem and had it painlessly fixed in about 20 seconds. No apology. With a tongue made raw and painful, I said " I don't understand how this could have happened." What I meant was " How in God's name did you not notice the jagged spear protruding from the tooth, that I paid you what most people would be thrilled to make in a week, to fix. He replied, " Because you had a giant cavity that you neglected for years. Hahahahaha (mirthless staccato laugh)". He turned on his heel and marched from the room leaving me feeling like something crushed beneath the very expensive shoes purchased by me and others like me in need of his services. So now 24 hours later, the underside of my tongue is still raw and slashed. Every thing I eat or drink is painful. I would recommend avoiding Dr Morganti at all costs. As a person with lousy teeth who has had a ton of dental work done with many dentists and oral surgeons, without hesitation I recommend doctors Gaudette and Reynolds of Ocean State Endodontics. I have had over 5 root canals in the last 15 years. Some have been done by Dr. Brian Gaudette and some by Dr. Maura Reynolds. Several have been done on an emergency basis when I was pain, including the most recent one (5/17). Both doctors have given me exceptional, gentle and effective care. I can't speak to the several negative reviews of the practice except to say that they in no way reflect my experience with these docs or their office staff. read more

Today I had my first root canal with Dr. Pat Morganti, and understandingly, I was a bit nervous. Dr. Pat's assistant, Jasmin, explained the entire procedure to me before Dr. Pat even entered the room. She was calming and professional. Dr. Morganti introduced himself to me with a smile on his face and great eye contact. He was professional and polite, and he answered all of my questions along the way. Throughout the procedure, he often asked me if I was okay, and I truly appreciated this contact with him. I felt no pain throughout the procedure - he was very gentle and precise. If you are in the unfortunate position to need a root canal, Dr. Morganti is wonderful, and I strongly recommend him for the job! read more

I would avoid this place if and when possible. The battle axe that answered the phone was so inept at scheduling that she told me the first time I spoke to her that she would see if the Doctor had 5 minutes in his schedule to see my infected root canal and call me back. She did call me back several days later to ask where I was, apparently she had booked an appointment and didn't notify me. After that it took 5 weeks to get into the office. They made me wait for 45 minutes because I was about 3 minutes late. The very nervous assistant told me word for word, what the dentist finally said when he looked into my mouth for approximately 30 seconds. In a nutshell I was told to come back when I was in pain. Several days later I was in pain again, so I called thinking they would usher me in. They gave me an appointment 10 days out at a time that was not good for me, and told me to be there early. Lucky for me, my regular fabulous nice dentist had given me antibiotics, because the pain is horrific. Not impressed. read more

One of the most unprofessional dental offices I have ever been to. After having patiently waited for over half an hour to see what her opinion was she almost immediately started yelling at me due to a misunderstanding and wanted to go ahead with the procedure before she truly even analyzed the xray. I had to practically beg her to do the nerve testing. And when she did she didn't even give me time to let the ice get to the nerve so the prevalence of the feeling might not have been there when she did it. Then she practically started slamming her other tool against my teeth almost in anger. Very volatile.(Apparently she had missed her lunch break)She and her assistant told me the nerve in my tooth was completely dead when I've had other dentists tell me that it is not entirely. And when I place ice along it by myself, I feel it! She came across very rude. And by rude, I mean not only yelling at me for questioning her, but threatening me with scare tactics to go along with the treatment she recommended, and also she was yelling at her dental assistant for practically no reason at all. She could not provide me sufficient info to what the cause of the problem was or how much time I had to do it because she simply did not know. It sound to me like the dentist she works with referred me to her because they just need to make a little extra cash. I've been to over ten different dentists(Florida, Texas, California) recently over the last few years(I travel a lot because of work) and none of them have said anything about even possibly needing a RC. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion that's what I did or just stay away from this place. read more

I'm writing a review today to do my best to warn anyone that is about to have or plans on seeing Dr. Patrick Morganti for a root canal to cancel the appointment and never let this dentist touch you! It all started for me when I had a tooth ache that I went to a Dr. James McManus to find out what could be done to fix it. He told me that a cavity had caused a piece of the tooth to break away and that I would need a root canal at which time he referred me to Dr. Morganti a friend of his. Once I got to Ocean State Endodontics I found that even from the start there was no real thoughtful friendly courtesy from anyone and I was just given a form to complete. After that I was whisked away by a dental assistant and then Dr. Morganti appeared to begin the procedure. I thought that things would be fine and that I would be treated with care and respect, but, was I wrong. After Dr. Morganti gave me two large Novocain injections he began the procedure and I thought it was unusual that he was humming and whistling as he did the root canal, as I never went to any dentist or doctor that would do that as he or she performs a medical procedure on me. It turns out something was wrong with this picture, because the very next morning I was talking with someone at the grocery store when all of a sudden my tongue had sharp knife cutting pain on the same side of my mouth that the root canal was performed. I began drooling profusely and couldn't speak without slurring my speech to a barely intelligible mumbling. I immediately had to leave the store and once I got back home I looked in my mouth to see a large ulcer under my tongue at which time I called Dr. Morganti and was told he had just left the office. I explained as best I could that something has gone terribly wrong with the root canal therapy and that I either need to speak to the doctor or be given some medication as it was Friday and over the weekend it would be difficult to rest or get any relief until Monday, so to avoid that it would be best to perhaps start some antibiotic or anti-inflammatory medications. Because I insisted the office staff finally got in touch with the doctor and they did order amoxicillin along with 800 mg ibuprofen which I immediately picked up at my pharmacy. The medications helped a tiny bit but overall this was the beginning of what turned out to be now going on a ten week nightmare of having pain, discomfort weakness, dizziness, brain fog, palpitations along with my face actually swelling up and becoming contorted causing me to look emaciated, fatigued or otherwise beat up and certainly not close to looking myself as I had just prior to the root canal. Photographs taken of my face just prior to the visit to this so called professional when compared to many taken just after and for many weeks now are like night and day! I'm actually suffering beyond belief with this terrible thing that has happened at the hands of this person! I have found other expert dentists to address this problem but they have long waiting lists so unfortunately my suffering is prolonged along with the fact that I've made several visits to Er's and was referred to a few specialists because something has caused my body to change and react in ways that indicate serious illness or some type of poisoning. It turns out that the types of bacteria that can become trapped deep in the root of the tooth once the tooth is sealed off can turn into anaerobic bacteria that can produce toxins that are more deadly than botulism! I've reported this entire mess to the State Health Department to hopefully get a leg up on exactly what happened along with trying to make certain the public is protected so some poor innocent person in need won't become another victim of this debauchery. Another extremely troubling fact of this mess is that Dr. Morganti never really wanted to take ownership of this mistake he made along with Dr. McManus doing the same and telling me to seek other expert dental care because he would prefer to not work with me. These dentists being friends of my primary care physician resulted in even my PCP Dr. Daniel Lukowicz severing ties with me because I did what he told me not to do when he basically said "that if I make any trouble for his dentists friends he would be through with me!" This is akin to a doctor conspiracy and is totally unacceptable and unconscionable to say the least. This has turned into some hideous horror story for me and as I type this review I actually feel very dizzy sitting here thinking how weak and ill I've become which is so far removed from where i was just 9 weeks ago! Doctors that run or duck a patient to protect their own bottom line to me are not fit to practice medicine and they are the ones that should be avoided on all levels! I want anyone reading my review to realize that you must stay away from this doctor and make sure to do your research on anyone you decide to see for care! read more
