I had a wisdom tooth removed recently which was anything but normal. It was broken off at the gum line, impacted and had extremely long roots. I can't say enough about Dr Harrison as well as everyone else in the office for the treatment and care I received. Dr Harrison is extremely compassionate, very professional, thoughtful and kind. He explains everything so I knew what to expect. I had no pain during the procedure. His office scheduled follow-ups and they had easy scheduling. When the pain from a decaying molar got too extreme to ignore anymore, I started calling oral surgeons to no avail, being told I could be put on wait lists and seen next month. Anyone who has had infected tooth roots knows this pain would not be bearable for more than a day or two. Dr Harrison got me in 3 hours after my call, and the diseased tooth out shortly afterwards. Since my original review was from 2009, I felt Dr. Harrison & co certainly deserve a refresher. Still a five star all the way. I actually went back for an extraction in November 2010 for a tooth that was beyond saving. Yet again, I was treated to exemplary service, a caring staff and a job extremely well done. Unfortunately a couple weeks ago while chomping down on a "Chicken Power" pot pie, one of teeth cracked. Ouch. And to double my trouble, the filling in another back tooth fell out leaving a painful mess behind. I had zippo idea who to call or where to go: naturally my first instinct was.. Dr. Harrison! After needing to reschedule due to Hurricane Sandy (they actually wanted me to come in the same morning I originally called!), I stopped in for a morning appointment and was seen after very little wait time. Despite being all childishly anxious, the second I sat in the examination room, it all totally melted away. Seriously: the staff here is just so comforting it's almost impossible to be terrified. Ultimately, both my teeth can likely be saved however I was referred to a specialist for a couple of root canals (eek) since sadly they don't do them. Of course, yet again, they went out of their way for me, even calling the facility for an open appointment after he discussed my options in detail. Thankfully, he prescribed me antibiotics and a pain killer to float me through to my appointment next week. I really mean it folks: as much as I'd rather keep all mai chompers, I have these peeps on my speed dial should anything happen & you totally should too. There's just something so pleasant about them that can calm the worst situations and I'm 100% grateful to Dr. Harrison for that. read more

Well, 5 stars certainly is not enough! Went there for the first time to have 3 impacted and cracked wisdom teeth taken out and it was a breeze! His assistants eased all my tension with humorous and semi-cheesy jokes (I have to admit, they are funny) and I woke up feeling great! I had my fourth wisdom tooth removed 2 years ago at a different place and woke up with pain, went home with pain but I went home, rested, woke up, removed my gauze and slept some more. It's been 27 hours since the procedure and I'm at work, no swelling and only taking ibuprofen. Joel Harrison is a very sweet and caring man. My first appointment was for monday and had to be rescheduled to Friday (which was fine as I wanted the antibiotics to be fully working) because his assistants are also volunteer firefirghters and one was at the scene of an accident. He was very apologetic and SINCERE. I was not mad or upset at all because of the reasoning! I will refer everyone here and if I ever need anything done, he will be the first place I call with no hesitation. read more

I went to Dr Harrison for a molar extraction. I first went for a consult and then a week later for the extraction. During consult I explained medical issues I have been having. He was very thorough and contacted my doctor to make sure the extraction would go smoothly, and that it did. I had only novocain and I have had about zero pain during the procedure and after. Quite awful customer service. I went to Dr. Harrison's office in Oct'18 for getting a assessment for Apico procedure. I found out treatment options. Then just to be sure that my insurance would cover all the costs, I requested that they get a pre-approval. I was told by the doctor and the front office person that they can do that. I was told that they will call me as soon as insurance gets back to them. 4 weeks passed and I didnt hear anything from them. So I call the Drs' office. First, the front desk lady says that I left you a VM, didnt you get it? I am like, I didnt. I asked when was did you leave voicemail and what did the insurance say. Then she is like hold-on. After couple mins she says the insurance never got back to her. She is like let me call them. I am like Ok, I let it slide that she initially said, I left you a VM. Two days pass and I dont hear from the Drs office. So I decide to call my insurance company. They say they had sent a letter to Dr. Harrison's office on 2nd Nov 2018 saying that they had approved the apico but denied the graft. I asked them why the graft was denied and how can it be approved. Insurance rep. said the doctor's office needs to include a narrative as to why graft is needed and then they will approve it. So I call Drs office, the front desk lady says that she was very busy and hasnt been able to reach my insurance. I give her benefit of doubt and share with her what insurance told me. I tell her that they had sent a letter on 2nd Nov to them and insurance needs a narrative for the graft. She is like ok, we will send them the narrative. 4 more weeks pass, now it is middle of Jan 2019. No response from Dr Harrison's office. So I call my insurance again, the insurance rep. checks file and reminds me about the letter they sent on Nov 2nd and tells that they havent received the narrative for graft from Dr. Harrison's office. At this point I am quite upset. I felt that the front desk person of Dr. Harrison is slacking and decide to inform Dr. Harrison. I call the front desk, the lady immediately asks me whether I have heard about approval from insurance. I figure it would be pointless to even tell her that she hasnt done what she had promised. I just say politely, that I have a quick question want to talk to Dr. Harrison for 1 min. She said, he is busy and will leave a note for him. Three more days, and three more polite follow-ups to Dr. Harrison. On the fourth day, a different front desk lady calls, she says that Dr. Harrison would want me to make an appointment and come to office if I have a question. I am like, it will be quick 1 min over the phone as opposed to me spending one hour of my time. I am like, no thank you. Hence I am writing here to share my experience. I will find another dental surgeon for the apico procedure. 4 months lost! read more

Located near the tarmac side of the airport. The office is in a former house so you can miss it but there is a sign outside with the Doc's name. Coming from the airport side, the office is on your right which is also your blindside so I recommend driving pretty slowly. Going towards the airport, again drive slowly, the office will be on your left. It's a single level blue building with a brown sign out front. Drive behind it and you'll find plenty of parking and walk around to use the front door. Once inside, I found myself in a clean and presentable waiting area. The Dentist told me some locations that are useful nearby, Walgreen's up the road away from the airport (a right out of the driveway) you'll drive right into it on the left-hand side and if you take a left at that intersection you'll find a Newport creamery about a mile. The procedure was to remove some molars and completed with success. Gave me a list to do and not to do for the 24 hours. The staff were great and very accommodating. I'm not going to lie the place caught me off guard but the procedure was long and gone, I had nothing but a great experience. read more

Dr. Joel Harrison performed an apicoectomy and removed the roots to a tooth that broke. Yes, I must say I was totally beside myself and expressed my concern having these procedures. Both Dr. Harrison and his 2 wonderful assistants were supportive, listened to my concerns yielding a most positive experience. I can not say enough about my experience....I never felt any discomfort during the procedure and was allowed to listen to my blackberry music, Pandora. His assistants and Dr. Harrison talk to me during the entire procedure letting me know exactly what he was doing (noises, pressure, that which I did not feel). They are the best! This man and his whole office is nothing short of amazing. From start to finish I was reassured and so well taken care of. I needed 7 extractions including my wisdom teeth, After having a few surgeons tell me they weren't comfortable doing my surgery or I wasn't very comfortable with the office visits from the recommendations from my dentist, I did extensive research on oral surgeons in ri when I found Dr Harrison. He had high recommendation and great reviews. Due to passed dental mishaps I wanted to make sure I had the very best doctor for my surgery. He explained everything, what he'd be doing during surgery and what id need to do during recovering reassuring me of all the insecurities I had about this surgery. As scared as I was I 100 percent trusted him to do it. I didn't swell at all and my pain was a minimal considering how much work I had done. He made sure to check on me through out my recovery and treated me like his own family. Such a great crew he has created to work with. He is the best oral surgeon in RI hands down. For years I was regretting not doing this when I was 18 but at 34 years old a wisdom tooth was giving me issues and researched places on Yelp in Boston & RI areas. I read great reviews on Joel Harrison. I decided to go for the consultation and felt at ease that I could still get it done in my 30's. I was dreading the procedure but the staff was excellent was prescribing me the right medication before the surgery. On the day of the surgery, I was shocked that it only took 50 minutes getting all four out. I followed the medication in the coming days and gradually got better. I was able to eat soft foods within two days, any kind of pain gone in week and half (and no intense pain) and was back to normal in about 12 days. The billing was also very reasonable. As far as Joel Harrison, he's a very optimistic guy who puts his patients at ease and has a personality that's perfect for this role. I have 3 implants all done by Dr Harrison ....He is simply "THE BEST" at what he does and I also need to mention that they take care of you immediately in a moments notice when you are having an emergency with your teeth. Again I am in a situation where I need a 4th implant and the tooth I am having problems with is giving me pain .....so I called the office and again an immediate appointment is made.
