I used to love this place when Lee & Ninni used to own it and I went for years and years and loved the service and quality of the salon .... they sold the place and left on Dec 5/23 ... I knew that Kimmi was staying so I got my lashes and waxing done by her ... she is a lovely honest kind sympathetic intelligent hard working woman ..., she has a real talent for lash extensions and body waxing ... i went there the second time and had to book in with a woman called Vaun ... this woman is a nightmare, bad attitude and did a HORRIBLE job on my lashes !! it also took her two hours ... I was exhausted by the time I left ... I went home and called her the next day and told her that the lashes were WAY too long, she disagreed and said she measured them and that's how they are supposed to be, I asked her to trim them for me and she refused, said the next time she would make them shorter ... I should have told her there would NOT be a next time ... I was furious !! I managed to find Ninni & Kimmi and went up to the new salon in Sage Hill and it was definitely worth the drive as Ninni did an excellent job on my lashes !!! Ocean Nail and Spa used to be a very well respected business. I was a loyal customer over 8 years. Now they have a new owner that has no business ,running a business. This woman treats her staff and customers with little or no respect. Kim was my nail technician at this spa and she was wonderful! Fortunately, I found her at the new spa she works at! Sad to say but after 8+ years of AMAZING service from Kim, I will no longer be returning, and to no fault of Kim. Ocean Nails is under new ownership, and sadly that came with the new manager Von (sp?). Quite possibly the rudest, most confrontational person I have ever met. Not to mention the blatant bullying she subjects the other employees too, while in front of paying clients too. And that's before we get into the absolute hack job she did on my nails. When advised that I was dissatisfied with my nails and either wanted them fixed or my money back, her response was "well I can just cut them off and then I'll give you your money back". Extremely unprofessional lady, and not a good start for the new owners. I was hoping to speak to the owners before writing this review, but found no contact info. There is much more to how Von responded when addressed, and it was highly unprofessional and quite frankly inappropriate. I am not the only one in the area that has had a similar experience with the new management. I hope this is taken seriously as Von has made it quite clear that she has no regard for this business and the potential consequences her actions may have. Again, 8+ years ZERO ISSUES. Kim is absolutely wonderful, extremely talented and a joy to be around. Ocean Nails should be grateful they have her. For anyone still planning on booking- Book with Kim, AVOID VON AT ALL COSTS. They had a wide selection of colours and a lot of seats for everyone! They have really nice massage chairs just make sure to be tall ;). Change is good! I had a fantastic experience at Oceans Nail & Spa since the ownership change. I had a shellac manicure and pedicure done by Steven, a very talented nail technician. He and Von (the owner) are friendly and professional and they made me feel very welcomed and comfortable. I was offered tea or water as soon as I arrived and the service I received was of exceptional quality. I don't understand why anyone would think otherwise. After being loyal customers of this salon for 12 years we walked in last week for our very last appointment. The salon had been sold and the new owners are only interested in double booking their appointments. I have had Kim doing my procedures for almost 10 years but she was booked with someone else. I was told I would have to wait. I waited. Kim started my appointment late and rushed through it because she was booked for the next hour. This lady is being treated like a slave, I hope she finds a new job with someone who will appreciate her talents. I feel after being a loyal customer for 12 years the least the old owner could have done is call me and ask if I still wanted my appointment or let me cancel and go elsewhere. Well, no problem, we will be going elsewhere from now on. Don't waste your time and money with these new owners, they are all about the money. read more

Like so many people, I had a Groupon which was how I came to try this place. I called on a Saturday and they had time to take me later that day. I arrived about 15 minutes early and they were able to start my pedicure. The salon has the big comfy massage chairs with the foot bath. What was different this time is the foot bath part was made of this cool looking transparent colored plastic. Each was a different color: red, blue, green, orange. It was quite unique. The lady doing my pedicure was quite friendly but spoke little. I sat there enjoying the massaging chair and watching this ocean video they had playing on the big tv on the wall. I brought my own polish which they were ok with. The girl did a semi-ok job of my toes. She didn't go back to clean up any polish she got on my toes which I thought was a bit unprofessional. Next, time for the manicure. This was started while my toes were drying. Then I was brought over to the manicure area to a lady who spoke almost no English so chatting with her was useless. I chatted with the crazy client sitting next to me. This lady did a bad job of filing my nails making them uneven and lop-sided. A child could have done better. Then for the polish. Yikes what a mess. There was polish on the sides of my fingers and she never bothered to clean it off. One of the worst manicures I ever had. I don't know if this lady was new but she sucks at doing manicures. I will not be returning here ever even if I had a groupon. It's not worth my time. read more

I have found this salon to be clean and friendly. I have had a few services: nail shellac, waxing and a facial. They are professional and know what they are doing. I would recommend making an appointment. Although they open at 9 am they book quickly. The only way I can walk in and find an opening is early in the morning and for one services such as a mani or eyebrow wax. I have been to numerous salons in Boston, Toronto and Calgary. I would rank these folks a 3 out of 5 on that scale for atmosphere, level of service, etc. but for Calgary they get top marks for price, comfort of salon, manners, speaking English, and the staff really like what they do!! I'm 16 and went there with my friend. they took advantage and made me pay $67 without a tip for a new set of acrylics. the people we're not there when I arrived and made me wait 20 minutes past my appointment time. when I asked why the website said the nails would be $48 they said it was because those were for the bad nails that turn yellow under water. if you want to be ripped off and wait two hours for a new set then go here. other than that save your money and get good nails. also I got my nails done about a week and a half ago and they are already grown out because of how far up my nail she painted. please do not go here. read more

Kind of hit and miss. And after last time I won't be going back. Had a regular girl for a few years that I saw Bi weekly. It was good. She did a good job. One time a different girl was in because she was sick. No problem. Until she brought in a dremmel and screwed up my nail beds. Next time I went back the regular girl did them and complained that I went to a different salon that wrecked them. I explained who it was in the salon and she kept telling me they only do it by hand. Even went to the appointment book to prove I'd been in. After that I went a lot less frequently until I stopped. That manicure also had issues with the gel polish being improperly applied (hanging off over my skin) so it cracked early and didn't last like normal. I had a special event in February and decided to go back for a mani/pedi. Usual girl didn't work there anymore so I took who I could get. Once again the dremmel came out. I told her no and she said it was safe and she was doing it while we argued. I should've got up and left. It's April and my nails are still a mess. I've for ridges on my nail beds, my nails are cracking and peeling and thin. read more

I started coming here because of a friend. They do such a lovely job on eyelash extensions! Especially for the price you pay compared to other spots! I started going here for eyelashes, and it was my first time getting them done, So I didn't know what to expect. they were pretty fast, and the eyelashes looked good, but the glue stung my eyes for a bit. A few days later I noticed my eyelashes started to clump together, and I would get huge pussy bumps by my lash line. My sister went there, and the same thing happened, and she ended up with a bald spot, and no lashes. Beware. read more

They do a really good job of lash extensions - depending on who you get. Some girls last 2-3 weeks. Others last 1-2. But the gentleman that works the desk is so abbrasively rude, books appts for wrong times and blames you, and threatens to never let you book again if you're running a few late. go next door. way less drama. read more

Ive tried a varaiety of nail places in Calgary and this salon is by far the best. The nail ladies and Lee at the front door are the sweetest people, very kind and welcoming every time I go there. Everyone does an amazing job with what they do, the salon is clean and calming and the prices are totally reasonable. I started going here to get my nails done in February, was pleased with the girl who was doing my Fills and Pedicures. I went there in May and was told about a new procedure called Gel Dip so I decided to try it, was very happy. The next time I want to get a Fill done I was told taht the manufacturer had recalled the product because too many people were having reactions, I told them I loved it and to keep any remaining product for me. The girl who did my fill this time is the Owners wife and she did such a horrible job., I asked her to redo 2 of my nails because they were so bad. She did redo them but not much better. I usually can go 3 to 4 weeks in between fills but after 1 week my nails were so bad, (broken) that I had to go back. I called and spoke with the owner and explained that I was not happy with the Fill that had been done and wanted to go back to Acrylic instead of the Gel Dip. I went in this morning and have never been treated so rudely in my life. I was told that they did not do Acrylic Nails anymore because the health Inspector said they couldn't!!! that the only reason she was doing mine was because I already booked the appointment. She said that I would have to get the Gel nails next time, I can not wear the Gel because of an allergy to a chemical they contain. She said that wouldn't happen there, yeah right!!! I will never go back there. There are way too many Nail Salons in Calgary for someone to have to put up with being treated so rudely! read more

Do not go near this place. Our Groupon was not accepted, but before my friend arrived and found that out I was already in the back getting an eyebrow wax and tint. She asked me if I wanted the tint to be black, I clearly said "no, that's much too dark for me". Well, I ended up with black and walking out of there looking like a clown and $25.00 poorer. Once I managed to get all of the black dye out of my brows and off of my skin, I realized that she did a HORRIBLE job of the waxing and my eyebrows were completely uneven. I ended up going somewhere else this morning in an attempt to get it fixed and the poor girl did the best she could to even them out but they are still dreadfully uneven. She spent half an hour threading and tweezing and was so apologetic that she couldn't do more to fix them...and of course there was absolutely nothing she could do about the black tint. I spent another $26.00 trying to get them fixed and they are certainly better but still embarrassing. DO NOT GO TO OCEAN NAILS AND SPA - bad enough that they wouldn't take the Groupon but it's going to take me ages to get my eyebrows back to non-embarrassing. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! read more
