I've made mentaiko pasta many times before and it has never been this good. I got this delivered yet it was still hot enough I had to blow on it. We had gotten the 6handroll set which comes with salmon, yellowtail, scallop, lobster and crab handroll. All of these were surprisingly good and fresh. Came here on a Friday night around 7pm to a completely empty restaurant. The staff greeted us warmly and explained everything on the menu. The interior is nice but set up omakase style with the sushi bar and high chairs. There were 4 table towards the back for bigger groups. I probably wouldn't come with bigger groups if I wanted the intimate experience. We shared the 6 hand roll combo, ordered the toro truffle HR, wagyu uni HR, one Japanese uni, chicken karage and fried oysters. We both ordered the Yuzu and lychee lemonade for drinks. The apps were nice and lightly fried with panko instead of the heavily breaded and thick batter. The oysters were nice and light. I wish the chicken karage was fried a bit more because it was very light in color therefore not as crispy. The chicken were also cooked just enough to make it edible, meaning it was still a little soft and pink ish but not to cause salmonella. It was delicious. I think the HR concept is new to the area so it's nice to see it being brought to Long Island. They space out your HRs so it's as fresh as can be which was very nice meaning they don't make the entire order and give it all at once. The rice is warm and the nori is still crunchy. Our fave from the 6 HR combo was the scallop; if I can have 6 of those, I would be a happy camper! The drinks were nice, refreshing and lightly sweetened. What a gem in long island! nestled right next to red lobster. I love all things sushi and omakase and not having to trek to the city for good and fresh quality is the icing on top. The prides are also very reasonable and the customer service here is so amazing. Very attentive and sweet. Love this new addition to Long Island! Hand rolls are made fresh right in front of you as you eat, so the seaweed is still crispy when you put the hand roll in your mouth. We tried the 4 rolls combo, 5 rolls combo, karaage, and yuzu shiso lemonade. Everything was satisfying. Although it's more pricey than similar restaurants in Manhattan, eg: Kazu Nori (couple dollars cheaper per combo, and no tipping), we are still happy to have Ocean Code around, and would be happy to revisit and recommend to friends. read more

Then if this was not enough.. ordered the king crab hand roll and Hata sushi. They were both delicious! I loved the texture and the slight chew of the hata fish! I will def return! Hand rolls are taking over the sushi scene locally. Ocean Code is most definitely a nice surprise to have in Nassau County - high quality fish and a city like dining experience nestled in a strip mall next to a Red Lobster. The decor is straight out of midtown Manhattan - sleek, spartan and modern. The seating at the counter top bar is perfect for their chefs to make the rolls right in front of you and have you eat them immediately fresh out of their hands. Food here is excellent IMHO. Fried oysters and squid legs were well done. Their yuzu lemonade was also refreshing. The wife and I thought that getting their 6 roll set was the best way to try out a representative sample of their offerings. The best rolls were the lobster and crab - both fresh and not imitation meat but lump meat. Salmon and yellowtail were good as was the scallop. Surprisingly the worst one was the spicy tuna - not spicy and overall just bland. The chef made the rolls one at a time and waited for us to finish before making the next one - a nice touch to ensure freshness. I do like that they do not put an excessive amount of rice and let the fish speak for itself. Service here is friendly and good. Prices are fair for the quality of fish although pricey for your average LI strip mall sushi spot (more in line with eating in NYC proper). If I had a suggestion, it would be for them to install hooks underneath the bar for people to hang their purses when they eat. We were seated promptly at 7pm, the waitress throughout the whole service was nice. However, the downfall is the wait for food. Both udons came pretty quickly, but the handrolls came very very slowly. 2/5 of us got the 5 handroll set and I got the 6 piece set. Note: they are willing to do substitute handrolls but you will just have to pay the difference if the one you want to get costs more. Food overall as good. My group and I personally think their udon is more worth it than their handrolls. Like many handroll places, they come by one by one. The time in between getting each hand roll was multiple minutes. We would eat one, finish, then wait 5-10 minutes for the next one while the people who ordered udon were already done eating their food. After we were all served 5 pieces and much time has passed, I was wondering where my 6th piece was. Turns out the waitress never put in my order for 6 pieces in and wrote I wanted 5. She offered to put the order in but our group was ready to leave. When we were paying, they kindly split the bill the way we requested, but they mixed our cards up. They were able to fix it thankfully. Rough experience, would not come again. 2 stars for the food and I guess the effort of them trying to fix their mistakes? read more

Love that there's a sushi handroll place in Nassau county! Sometimes you just want to eat with your hands. A very cute date spot that has plenty of room to sit at bar or tables, or if you want to be cuddly and romantic, there's a tucked away corner where you can play footsy with your significant other. The fish is fresh and delicately wrapped, but it's ok if the contents spill over, your plus one can catch it and feed it to you, chopsticks optional. Ps. Ambiance The venue is tastefully decorated. It's not a large place but spacious. They did not cram in too many tables to maximize seating. Service Mediocre. Wait staff came by when you flag them down. I didn't feel that they were attentive as compared to other venues in this price range. Food The food is "good enough" but the portion to price ratio is a bit off. They didn't get this right. Plus the service did not make up for the lack in food portion size. ("Good enough" as in I didn't find anything to complain about in terms of taste.) About their poke bowl: if you are looking for something loaded with different toppings, then you will be in for a disappointment. Conclusion If you paid $70 with tax and tip for two, you can walk out still looking for something else. If the portions were a little more one would not walk out feeling that way. Example: If my goal was to get to 70% full after my meal then I'm walking out 65% full with this meal. I'm guessing It's that 5% that people complain about prices here. We were trying out a new place so we generally do not order a lot for fear that we do not like it. Our solution was to find desert elsewhere. It worked out. If we came back, we would need to order additional appetizers or skip apps and do 3 entrees for 2 people, depending on hunger levels. However a return visit is highly unlikely. We do not like food waste and we do not like left overs. This place makes it a challenge to find a balance there. read more
