This shop is a hidden gem! We came in to look at getting our daughter her own violin. When we walked in, it felt like we had just stepped into Geppetto's workshop! It's a wonderful shop! The owner is Dustin, and as soon as we came in, he greeted us with a smile. He asked us some questions-the most appreciated one being "what is your price range?" I felt like he understood that we are not all rich and was considerate of that. Dustin then had my daughter in a room trying out different violins right away! She tried out 4 different violins, and 3 bows. It's so interesting how the instruments kinda pick its owner. Her violin is a beautiful piece! The price was reasonable considering the item and I don't feel like we overpaid at all. I could see the pride Dustin has in his work, he makes the violins himself! What's even more amazing for me, is that my daughter is not one to have a full-on conversation with others, but Dustin and her were chatting for a good few minutes! Normally, I never leave reviews, but this time I felt I had to because this place is spectacular. I hope this review helps you decide on a place for your stringed instruments' needs. This was my first time coming here. My teacher had brought my instrument here before for a bridge and neck repair, and I loved the sound that I was able to get. Unfortunately, a steel D string cut into the bridge. Up until today, I've been using a poorly fitted bridge. So I decided to bring my violin in for its second bridge repair. Best choice I've ever made. When I first walked in, I was immediately greeted with a smile by Mr. Dustin Choi. I told him that I wanted a new bridge cut, and he immediately took notes. No nonsense. He didn't ask unnecessary questions and he knew exactly what needed to be done when he checked it out. He even gave me the choice of bridge I wanted. Extremely polite and kind. I was out of there in 3 minutes flat. Came back in 2 hours to a job well done. He did the job well, and even weny out of his way to touch up nicks and scratches on my violin and polish the violin. He even fixed the buzzing noise that had plagued me for months, which I learned today was due to my peg acessories coming loose. And he only charged me for the price of the bridge, which was a good price for his workmanship. Most amazing strings shop you could have in OC. I was not paid to leave this review, I want people who are looking for a reputable violin repair shop to know that what you get from Mr. Choi is worth the money and effort that you put forth. He was very patient in listening to my experiences with my cello, and gave a thorough analysis of my cello's quality. Purchased my son his Cello today. Amazing price for the quality sound and quality workmanship. My husband and I were going to purchase a Mendini from Amazon. But Id imagine the quality would be subpar as I had purchased my daughter a 1/4 violin from the same manufacturer. Of course if you dont wish to break your bank you can opt for a cheaper model. But seeing as Amazon had sold out on 1/2 cellos (and were being sold at $300+), I decided to come by today and check out their pricing. I came about this place on Yelp, while trying to find businesses who teach Cello. The cello is an exquisite and beautiful instrument, it can be a pricey investment due to many factors. From limited instructors, pricey lessons, locations on where to find one, and the most obvious...pricing! Of course as a parent to a 7 year old, one must give a lot of thought before investing on a $200+ instrument on an indecisive, short attention spaned, growing child. After a couple weeks of research, thought, and constant interrogation (from me to my son). We decided to go through with it. What I loved about this place...the environment, the attentiveness, the delicacies, and of course the string instruments. I was fabulously overwhelmed by all the Violins, Violas, Cellos, and Bass. They had all of it, from bows to books to cases. Walls were lined with string instruments and across the entrance, a work station for the artist behind these string beauties. Now on the most important details. The owner was extremely nice, helpful, and comprehensive. Were a bit financially strapped so his Rent to Own program worked perfect for us. We paid the first 3 months down, and will pay $45 a month until its paid off. The cello came with a storage bag, rosin, bow, and strings. He was even kind enough to give us a cleaning cloth and tag, in case my sons cello gets lost. :) But the best thing about it all was that my son left the store extremely excited and happy.
