But he learned so much more than music by spending time with this wonderful man. My son looked forward to his lessons with Jeff and continued with them throughout his high school years. Jeff Harrison is a FANTASTIC instructor. I took lessons with him for over four years or so. I came to Jeff being classically trained previously since the age of eight, so I had a bit of a foundation before I began. BUT...don't let this discourage you if you are a beginner; Jeff handles ALL skill levels very well. He has an extremely efficient teaching method that helps pianists learn multiple skills in different categories/genres such as scales, chordal theory, music theory, pop music, classical, jazz, improvisation and others. My most favorite skill I learned from Jeff is chord voicing. This is a very useful skill that allows the pianist to play just about any popular song they wish as long as they know the chords. It's amazing that I can now listen to just about any song and I can play my own version of it. I am very thankful for this skill that Jeff has taught me. All in all, Jeff will make you a better pianist for a reasonable cost as long as you are invested into the art of piano. Jeff is very patient and knowledgeable and is open to developing you into a technical/creative pianist both physically and mentally. Jeff has been working with our 15-year-old son for the past 4 years. His knowledge, teaching method and personality have been a perfect fit. We came to Jeff when my son wanted to try out for the Jazz band in middle school. Jeff gave him the building blocks to not only make the band, but to excel in it. Jeff's teaching method is well thought out and is conducive to a continual growth in both theory and playing style. My son has attended many college level jazz camps and under Jeff's instruction, my son's knowledge and ability either equals or exceeds those who are taking classes at the college. Fantastic Piano Teacher! I was forced to play piano growing up, and for many years, and with many teachers, I hated it. When I moved to Fullerton and started with Jeff, things started to change. While he still drilled the fundamentals, (music theory, scales, classical, baroque, romantic, etc.), Jeff introduced other genres and styles and encouraged me in what I enjoyed playing (chord progressions, blues, and pop). Jeff saved my interest in piano, and while I am not a concert pianist, he gave me the ability to sit down and enjoy playing for the rest of my life. Highly, highly recommend! read more

I had the great fortune of having Jeff as my piano teacher for about 12 years, and I consider it one of the more formative experiences of my childhood. Jeff was a great mentor and an even better pianist, and through him, I gained so many different musical abilities that I feel almost like a superhero. Through solely the things that Jeff taught me, I was able to do a ton of awesome things. I got through the Certificate of Merit program, culminating in an honors panel recital at the Nixon library. I got through the AP Music Theory exam with a 5. I was able to use the analytical skills he gave me to tackle my International Baccalaureate extended thesis to analyze Rachmaninoff's growth as a composer throughout his career. In college, I used these same analytical skills in my Beatles' elective class to assess cultural contexts through music motifs found in the Rubber Soul album. Jeff cultivated and developed my creativity - something that I was initially too shy to approach, and I've used the abilities I've gained through Jeff's teaching to compose and improvise music as a hobby. Whenever I get the chance, I always tell people of the awesome piano teacher back home who equipped me with the tools I needed to truly appreciate music as a hobby, as an art and as a musician. At its core, finding a teacher to grant you the technical abilities to play X composer's piece is easy, but finding a teacher who can inspire you to really dig into your creativity, to funnel your feelings into what you play to make an extension of your self (even if you end up just playing a little 'too loud' and a little 'too fast' :P), to nurture a passion to continue pursuing and appreciating music long after the lessons are over are a rare find. Jeff's a great teacher - he made learning piano rewarding and I'm forever grateful for what he's taught me. Plus, as a kid navigating adolescence at the time - having Jeff as a constant was great. He was a positive, motivating force during a period of time where things are in flux - and while it wasn't the focal point of our lessons, our weekly sessions definitely added some positive stability to a tumultuous time. All in all, very few people carry the kind of recommendation I'd give Jeff - he's been so important to my growth as a person and as a musician, and if you're considering taking up music, Jeff's the guy you should go with, hands down. I've played guitar most my life and had always been intrigued by the idea of taking up piano. As luck would have it, I got connected with Jeff and it's been two years now of great lessons. I knew from the first lesson that I'd be coming back for a while. Jeff has a great combination of technical musical training and musical street sense. Our lessons can cover the gamut from running through scales to talking about the challenges of songwriting. He's a piano teacher, but also a musical mentor. Both my son and I took piano lessons with Jeff for many years. I highly recommend him for teaching kids or adults. My son easily related to Jeff, who kept him interested and motivated by blending Classical training with other music my son would ask to learn, and even 'coached' him through his 8th grade year as choir accompanist!
