Yikes! I was referred to this place by friends so I figured if they trust this place so can I. I brought two flutes in for everything to be done. I told the lady in the front when I dropped it off that I wanted them cleaned, pads changed, and whatever else that needed to be done. They quoted me a week's work. Today I picked up my instruments all excited to see two shiny flutes with new pads and the whole shebang. No! I asked the lady about it and she said it was not noted. I literally told them I wanted everything done and for whatever else that needs to be done. Money is not an issue! It's like dropping your car off to get washed, oil change, brake changed and when you go pick your car up they're like here's your car. It's in working order. If cleaning and polish is not a part of the regular maintenance then offer that as a service add on! Ridiculous! read more

My daughter attends a local middle school and is in the orchestra program with a cello loaned out from the school. She recently tripped over her cello, accidentally, and nicked the bridge, which resulted in it loosening one of the strings. I thought it was a major repair but after getting it "diagnosed" by Janelle, the damage wasn't so bad. She assured me that it was going to end up even better after the repair- and she was right! The tech was able to custom fit the bridge and positioned it better than it was originally, giving the cello a better sound overall. What I thought was going to be more than $100 ended up being $70 and ready within two days. They're affordable and accommodating- I'm definitely coming back. The only downside is that business hours are from 10-5pm and closed on the weekends- so you basically have to adjust going into work to come here. read more

My son expressed interest in taking violin lessons so I rented a violin from here. It wasn't the closest to my house but it was the one that I had called first. The rental cost $25 for one month, which felt like a pretty fair price (I had heard that other places nearby charge $40/month). I actually ended up returning the violin early, because my son decided to move forward with consistent lessons and I was able to purchase a new one for $50. The staff with whom I interacted each time I called and went in person were helpful and nice. The shop itself was cluttered. I did have one major issue. I did not care for the extent of the personal information requested in the rental agreement form, including my SS#. Car rentals, ski rentals, and tons of other rental places with high-priced items do not even ask you for that information. I had Initially I left that spot blank, and then the employee told me that I had to fill it out. I challenged it due to my lack of comfortability but the employee said it was required for the rental. So, I "complied" and OF COURSE I furnished a fake SS#. Clearly, there is no way for them to check, yet it protects my identity. I have had my identity stolen twice in my life and It was a true hassle, so I certainly do not plan to provide my SS# to a random store, especially when they are asking for it to be handwritten on a physical paper, geez! read more

Amazing service! I would HIGHLY recommend Imperial Band Instruments. My son plays the Baritone Horn at his middle school, which is not too common an instrument to find, so when we stumbled upon one in an antique shop on a family vacation, we had to get it. It was in decent condition, played okay, but the case had a broken handle. After bringing the horn to another music shop close to our home, they said that they could clean it up for us, but the handle was beyond repair, and nothing could be done. After the other music shop "cleaned" it, my son had trouble playing it -- valves were sticking despite the regular oiling and valve grease, and he was getting frustrated with it. My son's music tutor suggested Imperial Band. It was a bit of a drive, but I am so pleased with Imperial Band. They were able to replace the handle that was "beyond repair" according to the other place. Imperial Band fully cleaned the instrument inside, and I really don't believe the other place had even done a good job at the cleaning. Imperial Band replaced the springs and put new felts on as well. I am so extremely glad we went to Imperial Band Instruments. It was totally worth the bit of the drive, the service was excellent, and the turn-around was very reasonable, as everything was done in just one week! read more

I was referred by a mariachi friend of mine and skeptical because this was my 3rd attempt at fixing sousaphone and trumpet valves. I had major overhaul done on both at a different repair shop and the esthetics were acceptable but the freakin' buttons stuck and valves didn't slide smoothly, most important part when playing!!! Anyhow I talked and txt Jerry and convinced my husband to check him out. His price to repair both was under $100 and although my husband did return because 1 valve on the sousaphone stuck again he was able to quickly fix it and now both instruments are in playing condition, 2 thumbs up! So I went in looking for an intermediate trumpet for my son. This was the first place I was going to stop. Location was easy to find and we went in. The young lady that was helping us was very engaging and helped us through the process. I had no plan to purchase that day, I wanted to look at several stores before I made my choice. The young lady talked my 12 year old son through each trumpet he selected and tried out there. She didn't push him to the most expensive, she just let him decide which one was feeling the most comfortable. As he had narrowed it down to 3, I started on my smart phone comparing prices online for the models he was trying. I figured if we knew what kind of trumpet we wanted, we could most likely find it cheaper online. I was wrong. I quickly learned that the prices of these brand new trumpets at this store were the same and sometimes cheaper of the same model trumpet used. So much so that I asked if the trumpets that were being shown were used. They were not. Well I then made an offer on a Getzen trumpet and a Bach mouth piece. The young lady called the owner who was off and he accepted my offer. I'm not a musician, I don't know much about instruments. One thing I do know is that I felt comfortable there and they catered to my son, so he felt comfortable as well. Kudos for this small business doing things the right way. read more

I brought a few banjos in to get tuned as well as a guitar. I know nothing of banjos and am pretty naive at all when it comes to instruments. My friends will tell u I'm "freakishly strong" and certainly don't look it, but these banjos are HEAVY! Have no fear tho, one of the good ppl there held the door for me and when the girl was done she helped bring them to my car! On top of that she tuned them FOR FREE! Of course that meant I left her a nice tip. THAT is excellent customer service. read more

My son's trumpet needed repair so I went to what was formerly named Anaheim Band now named Music and Arts. They told me that their turnaround time is TWO WEEKS. Our band director recommended Imperial Band Instruments in La Mirada. I walked into Imperial Band and they fixed my son's trumpet within about 10 mins. AND, they didn't charge me a penny!! At the beginning of the school year, we got a used 1/2 violin with upgraded strings for a fair price. They were willing to hold the violin for us when I called them in the morning so we can pick it up before the shop closes. I needed to get some guitar picks for a show tonite and didn't want to have to go to GC. I found this place on Yelp and couldn't be happier. They are a small Mom & Pop type shop tucked in the back corner of a shopping center. But once inside you become immersed in the land of brass and strings. I'm glad they carry picks so I don't have to go far but I can use these guys for strings for my upright bass. I met the owner Maria who was a sweetheart and a great help. I came here after coming from Sam Ash and I was a bit skeptical because the neighborhood looked pretty ghetto. I was looking for a wooden clarinet and their prices were pretty lit. I'm a professional horn player who needed some urgent repairs on my primary french horn. It had been in a closet for months while I was away performing in a show that required me to play a different horn. Not wanting to spend a ton of money with a french horn guru, since it isn't all that nice of a horn, I took it to IBI at the recommendation of a couple people. They fixed a stuck slide and two valves on the spot in about a half hour for less than $20. I wasn't expecting that at all, but it was exactly what I needed that day. I also have to say, in the half hour that I was there I overheard their staff helping a few parents who came in looking for instruments for their kids and was impressed by their honesty and customer focused business practices. The people here genuinely know what they're doing and have built a business that aims to put their customers first, instead of the dollar first. They really seem to understand the school music program world and want to help parents successfully navigate those needs in a way that puts the parents budget and realistic expectations first. I went to go repair my oboe and looke dat 3 different spots. The one near my house was ~300 and takes 3 weeks. The one a bit further was ~200$ and 1 week. I come to IBI and it is ONLY 33$ and 4 days wait. I also found out that the reeds are 6 dollars cheaper than amazon which is saying something. Really good place for instruments. read more
