Huston Performing Arts in Placentia is an amazing performing arts program! We were first introduced to them when they came to our elementary school and produced Seussical and Annie. I expected basic elementary school productions, but I was so surprised and impressed by how professional they were and by the performances of all the students. That experience led us to sign my eight-year-old grandson up for their summer production of James and the Giant Peach, and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Kris Huston and her team truly focus on teaching the fundamentals of musical theater. The students aren't just learning their parts--they're learning real theater skills and what goes into putting on a quality production. I've watched my grandson grow and polish his skills through these three productions, while gaining confidence and, most importantly, having so much fun. You can see that same growth and training reflected in the wonderful performances of all the students. I look forward to watching him continue with Huston Performing Arts and seeing his skills and love for theater grow over the years. Open SUMMER break!! Only performing arts school we found offering group summer classes and a family plan during summer months. Helped us keep structure within our summer schedule. My eldest kids were kinda older and self- aware and a little nervous to try something new at an older age in childhood. My daughters were age 8 and 10 when they did their first singing class. And daughter was 11 years old at her first dance class! Thankfully Huston has a relaxed environment for late beginners. We wanted to start earlier in life but that's not how life went. Our child was 11 during her first dance class and we are so grateful it was chill. We felt our daughter stayed open to dance altogether after she was given the right energy of encouragement by the substitute/ new teacher, Hayley. An easygoing environment like Huston school is best for our type of family because of how important it is at this time in my health journey to just be happy and have fun with my kids. We need fun times together and not drive our kids too hard after all the academics they did during school. There's a recital at the end of summer. Was fun. My kids only had about 8 weeks of summer classes before they actually did a recital performance! I was deeply touched by how thorough the recital was done and how much my son had learned his singing lessons and did a performance. Summer Recital included Bounce house, raffles and professional live jazz band. Was impressed by the value we got for two months of summer classes and a fantastic summer recital. Recital is outdoors so when we saw other familys using pop up tents for shade we put ours up too and it helped for shade. The owner, Kris, makes it easy to keep in touch through texting. Answers to questions come fairly quickly which is important for my personality because I don't check my email all day. Some group classes are more advanced so there's something for a range of talents if you're past beginner level. So grateful the group classes are easy come easy go, definitely the kids feel comfortable trying something new here in this environment. We tried Pixar summer camp and after meeting the teachers and seeing how it was organized we felt safe to leave our eldest daughter (aged 10) for a few hours a day for a week of Pixar camp. It also had an adorable recital at the end of camp. Surprised how much they accomplished in one week of practice. Thanks for a fun summer, Huston! We are back again this summer. read more

We came to Kris last minute for help with a couple songs that my daughter needed to prepare for a quick-turnaround audition. She was very accommodating and was able to squeeze us right away into her very busy schedule. It was their first time working together, and Kris was so patient, meticulous, and very clear with her directions. After the coaching sessions, my daughter's singing improved immediately and there was noticeable difference in her vocal quality and understanding of the song. Kris also helped put my daughter on tape which got her a callback! If you are looking for a performing arts school for your kiddos, look no further. Kris is an awesome teacher who has a wealth of knowledge and knows how to make her students shine. I can honestly say and I did tell Kris that my daughter learned so much from her in just a few sessions compared to a few months of lessons. The adult dance class Kris started is really fun. We get to dance to fun 80s music and learn choreography, something I haven't done in over 20 years. It's challenging but enjoyable. My kids have been taking music lessons and musical theater classes at Huston's for four years now. We really love the one on one instruction. My kids self-esteem has grown as well as their ability to read and understand music. I recently took an adult class at Huston Performing Arts. My two children usually are the students at HPA but, I decided it was time to join the amazing adult classes they offer. "Hot Mamas" is so much fun and such a great workout with such an upbeat coach and crew! I definitely recommend trying an adult class at Huston Performing Arts if you want to work on fitness, coordination, fun routines, and above all surround yourself with great people who make you feel motivated and excited to better yourself! Huston Performing Arts is such an admirable (educational) youth organization, enriching kids from the young age of 4 upwards to 18! My son has been lucky to take private vocal lessons from Owner/director Kris Huston, for about 4 years now, starting at age 9. He is now 13. Within that time, he has continued to add to his professional resume, auditioning and booking valuable theatrical projects each year. Kris teaches vocal technique like no other! I am lucky to see, with virtual lessons, just how much she connects to her students. She is silly with warm-ups and diction, and creates a nurturing balance between strong musical focus and friendly learning. My son has grown so much under her guidance. Also, he has been introduced to Musical theatre tap through Huston, which he now pursues with gusto at Orange County School of the Arts. Both my children have been involved in performing arts, since age 8. I admire several businesses that have touched their lives, and Huston is top of my list for the wide variety of relevant music/instrumentation, dance, acting and private coaching that they offer.
