What a find!!! Paul is a rare find these days. During the start of Covid I thought it would be a great idea to get my daughter a violin to keep her busy and learn something new. Long story short, without lesson time passed and she outgrew the instrument. This is where Paul came in. We found him on a quick yelp search. Reviews seemed good enough so we decided to stop by. It was a blessing! He could have totally sold us a more expensive instrument but after talking with us and understanding what level my daughter was planning at he guided us toward the "RIGHT" instrument. He wasn't concerned about draining our wallet, he just wanted us to have something that would fit her needs but also would be of great quality. He shared a little about himself and his shop and he also took the time to show us how to care for and tune the instrument. These days you don't find that. This man has a passion for what he does, he is honest, fair and genuine. We walked out with a beautiful violin that fits my daughter perfectly, I spent way less than I thought I would and now I was even able to teach my daughter something about the instrument. I'm regularly visiting paul's violin for vow hair changing and violin adjustment for my wife. Paul is a really nice and gentle guy, so I'm little bit wondering why some of people have some issue with him. Sensitive music instruments repairs, some times it cannot be 100% satisfied, then my wife keep going to the repair shop, and he has never expressed any dislike, and heard & tried what he can do. We tried to many of violin shops in Costa Messa, Irvine and so on, but he is the best for my wife's violin. I highly recommend him! read more

Really nice home business. Needed a 1/2 violin for my son for elementary school music program. Paul spent the time to show our family one of the many violins he has. We didn't want to spend a fortune on something he will out grow in a year or two, or possibly break or loose. He checked fit on violin and bow and showed us all how the care and tune it with free app for your smartphone. He will replace any broken springs and offers a trade up program as your student grows up. If you bought an online violin that has any issues he can replace bridges and make them right. My 4 year old boy plays violin and he broke his 1/10 violin. I went to my local instrument shops in South Bay area and paid $300 for a used 1/8 size violin. I recently discovered Paul's through my friend. I ended up getting one more of 1/8 size from Paul. Paul is very honest and his new violins are much better priced than the used violins at my neighborhood violin shops. My son's violin teacher is very maticulas and picky. I've come here a couple times now and I have to say I really like Paul's Violin Shop. My violin was extremely grimey and had a ton of rosin buildup when I brought it in - playing bluegrass can have that effect on a fiddle. Paul cleaned my violin immediately while I hung out and played with his dog. The price was great and he even included a varnish touch up where it had been worn raw. I wanted to try an arcos brasil bow and this was the closest person to me (San Diegan). I also only had yelp reviews to guide me. Some reviews are very glowing and some thought he was haughty or stuck up. I'm pleased to report I had a good experience. He was very pleasant, and very patient. I must have spent an hour there and he just kept putting bows away and bringing new ones. There was a little bit of a language barrier but nothing insurmountable. His bow rehair prices are probably the best I've seen so that's a plus. He also had me try a 300k violin (one of those luthier troll moves that I always read about online, but never experienced) and had me guess how much it was worth before he told me the value. (I guessed 10k). the address on yelp points to a house (which had a cello sitting outside so that was pretty confusing), but his shop is to the side of the house. if you're facing the house, it's the little bungalo-ish building to the right. When I walked out, there was a confused looking korean family looking around and figured it out when they saw me with my case. read more

I've been coming here since 2015. Today, I went to get a bigger size violin for my kid. I couldn't remember how much I paid before. But you don't have to worry about it. He and his wife checked their receipt and let you know. Otherwise I had to go through 2-3 years worth of my receipt boxes. Thank goodness! They don't cheat you, I can tell that they are honest people. From the receipt they found I knew that the first time I came was 2015. Ha ha. Paul provided excellent customer service. Excellent violins for children starting to learn to play the instrument.....You get the most bang for your buck! Seriously why would you pay 20 bucks a month to rent a violin only because you know your child will soon outgrow the instrumemt. Why go that route when you can get a brand new quality piece for $150 (all included) sized perfectly for your child and here's the topper: Paul gives you a $75 credit to use on your next violin when it comes time to size up....so you can rent a brand new violin for $75 for as long as your child can use it. Paul is one of the best luthiers in the music world. His bow rehairs last for 6 months of consistent playing. He repaired one of our violins and it was flawless. It sounds incredible. He is reasonable on repairs and rehairs. Paul also makes beautiful violins and cellos. He also sells student instruments. We will drive 3-4 hours in each direction just to have him work on our instruments. read more

Went here to get a violin for my daughter for her music class. The one provided by the school had a rubber band holding it together (wth). $150 for the violin, $25 for the shoulder holder thing. The guy, I'm assuming his name is Paul is really nice. Showed us how to tune it and said he would replace the strings anytime. I visited Paul's violins for the first time today, September 9, 2016, and found Paul to be a completely charming person to interact with. I was having an old student violin and bow looked at to check out their condition, have them cleaned, the bow rehaired and new strings put on so that I could gift it to a friend. I ended up with a hilarious story and two new friends: one a luthier, the other a canine. Paul has an utterly adorable little dog named Coco who fearlessly barked her dismay at my entry, but quickly warmed up after Paul instructed her to get her rubber ball for playtime. I tossed the ball for her while Paul and I chatted about the state of repair of my instrument. At some point he looked down and noticed Coco had got into something and noticed some bits of wood on the floor. She then hopped up on the sofa next to me and delivered into my hand my half eaten bridge! It must have fallen on the ground. I found this to be completely hilarious but of course Paul was mortified and immediately promised to replace it for free. Thankfully, Coco make her big debut as a connoisseur of violin bridges on a decidedly cheap, barely-serviceable chunk of wood and it was completely funny and not at all tragic. Thanks to Coco's faux-pas, I'm sure I'll end up with a much nicer bridge than I started with. Paul tells me he has been at this convenient Fullerton location for about 20 years, and I wish I'd known about his shop sooner. I will post an update after I collect my violin and bow next week but based on his other Yelp reviews, I have no doubt I'll be satisfied with the work, and his pricing is extremely reasonable. Excellent customer service! A bit hard to find because the place is small and though the address says Houston, it is actually on W Ramona St, but glad we found it! The price was great - $150 for a violin when I had paid that much to rent it for a year twice before at a different location (which had been a good deal, in my opinion since normally rentals are $20 per month). We also got a $75 credit to use whenever we need to upgrade it for my daughter, and he said that anytime we needed a new string, we could come in and get it for free. We came in for a cello repair. Paul did a great job at a fair price. He works out of a side building off of a residential home so it can be a bit hard to find.
