They cared for my dad in his home before he passed away. Very responsive when we called with any issue any time during the week.

When my father-in-law went into the hospital in critical condition and then transitioned to comfort care, we weren't sure what we were going to do to about where he could pass. He was not able to return home and we live in San Diego far from the community who would want to be near his bedside during this sacred time. Then, they told us about this hospice house. It was smack dab in the middle of Tustin where his entire community is. He was in his own room. Everyone that came in introduced themselves to him, even though he couldn't respond, and told him what they were going to do to care for him. They provided snacks, beverages, and a separate sitting area for families when taking a break from the bedside. They allow people to sleep overnight to be near their loved one. No restrictions on visiting. A volunteer came and sang to him. A chaplain visited and prayed with him. They've offered to make memory bears out of his shirts. It was really a beautiful place for him to be. We are so grateful and appreciative.

I was grossly disappointed with Care Choices' Hospice service. To start with, their contract and…read moremarketing materials are materially misleading, and internally inconsistent, in terms of the care that they actually provided. Their representative rushed me through the sign-up process without any clear explanation of the services that they were going to provide. Specifically, their communication to the parties involved (Assisted Living, the attending physician, and me) was vague, ambiguous, inconsistent, and confusing at a time when job descriptions should be crystal clear. It is Care Choices' responsibility to coordinate care and especially to make sure that "their" patient is being properly attended to. Hospice services are not just to provide a hospital-style bed and a wheelchair. As a direct result of Care Choices' lack of clarity, the Hospice service was waiting for the attending physician to treat, the attending physician was waiting for Hospice to treat, and the family was waiting for the patient to receive necessary care on a prompt basis. As it was, the patient's care was overly delayed, which caused the patient medical distress and the family members completely unnecessary emotional distress.

Thank you for the thoughtful email & for summarizing my thoughts & wishes so concisely & effortlessly. (I know I can be wordy) Thought you should know that after meeting Eva today both my mom & I feel a sense of peace, calm, & can take a deep breath. Eva is wonderful! She's kind, patient, gentle, & compassionate. Eva, Marisol, & Margarita all have calming & reassuring demeanors that both my mom & I need & appreciate as we settle into this hospice transition. I know this ride started out a little bumpy for various reasons (myself included), but I'm kinda thankful that it did... it gave me the opportunity to interact with you & know that we have the support of a wonderful team. You've been incredible! I can't thank you enough for your time, attention, & presence. It truly means a lot & you should know that you've made a difference for the better. My apologies for being anxious & emotional during this transition. I'm someone that thrives in structured & organized environments & I fully admit there's a lot I don't have control over in life but it's especially challenging when it's a declining loved one. I know better & the truth is the Lord is in control & we accept that. We are finally in acceptance but it took awhile to accept the current path my mom is on. We are so thankful to have you and your team by our sides during this season in life. Have a blessed & restful weekend.

I strongly advise against using Vitas Hospice Care. In San Jose, CA. During the most vulnerable…read moretime of our lives, when my mother was in her final stages of life, most of the staff showed a shocking level of insensitivity, disrespect, and lack of basic human empathy. The individual assigned to wash and comb my mother's hair was incredibly rude and pulled her hair roughly, treating her as if she wasn't even a human being. I had to report her conduct to the nurse. To make matters worse, while my mother was actively dying, a male staff member who came to switch shifts with another worker started laughing and making fun of her snoring right in front of us. Seeing a worker make fun of a dying patient during her final hours was heartbreaking and infuriating. Throughout our experience, the nurses and staff spoke to us and evaluated my mother without an ounce of compassion, treating her like a task rather than a person. The only person who showed true compassion and kindness was the bereavement counselor / medical social worker (the therapist). Hospice care should provide dignity and comfort to every patient, but overall, Vitas provided coldness and disrespect. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

In conducting significant research into home health care agencies in the Irvine/Tustin area, I soon noticed Agape had multiple positive reviews. From the get go, they have been professional, responsive, and have worked with our schedule in order to provide quality care for my father. Furthermore, Llene has been such a blessing in our lives and has treated my father like her own father and we couldn't be more pleased. They honored my mothers wishes, always spoke to her respectfully, yet straightforward, when needed. Their care plan was comprehensive, they told us what to expect and when something new came up they reworked the plan with us. Every single person we came into contact with was wonderful, caring and loving. Honestly, we could not have taken care of our 85-year-old mother, who had pancreatic cancer, without them. Pain management is number one with this disease, second was symptom management and the third was taking care of her, and our, unique emotional and psychological needs. My mother was very religious and this was of ultimate importance to her. It is making me cry right now writing this because I am so happy in how they addressed this with her. The nurses and the chaplain listened to my mom intently to understand where she was in her journey. Celia Hansen, set up coordinator and Kathleen Hoff, NP, were great! Elva Beccerra, Social Worker, understood our family dynamics and most importantly our mother's wishes. Mayra, mom's Bath Aid, showered mom making her feel as good as possible; joking with her while bathing, washing her hair and keeping her safe. Lynn was fantastic, experienced and she came right at the most needed times to solve issues. Dom was amazing, relieving anxiety and pain. Rosie was someone my mom talked to a lot in the middle of the night to advise on what to do next and we thank you for that. The way the team handled communication was phenomenal. Thank you to chaplain Stephen for your kindness and words of hope and faith. Vera Scott was just super, as mom's RN case manager and is truly one the best nurses we have ever seen! And, we are both in the medical field with high expectations. Vera is dedicated to end of life care; she is very intelligent, unbelievably kind and patient. Thank you for being at my mom's side the whole way comforting her so she could pass on the way she wished. From the bottom of our hearts, we THANK YOU Heartland Hospice, Linda & Mary Ann

We contacted this place and only signed because the in-take nurse was so kind and helpful during the process. Sadly that was the only good thing. This hospice only cares about saving $. One package of wipes per week - even though more was necessary. I had to threaten legal action to get pain meds for my mother when she developed shingles 10 days before her death. This hospice would send our different nurses each week - I later found out they hired temporary nurses from an agency because good nurses wouldn't work for Mario and his friend in Human Resources. Very poorly run company with no real oversight from their corporate offices. Would never recommend this heartless place for anyone who has loved ones in need of hospice care. PS - the one good nurse quit. Sadly my mother passed before we could switch hospices.
