I was grossly disappointed with Care Choices' Hospice service. To start with, their contract and…read moremarketing materials are materially misleading, and internally inconsistent, in terms of the care that they actually provided. Their representative rushed me through the sign-up process without any clear explanation of the services that they were going to provide. Specifically, their communication to the parties involved (Assisted Living, the attending physician, and me) was vague, ambiguous, inconsistent, and confusing at a time when job descriptions should be crystal clear. It is Care Choices' responsibility to coordinate care and especially to make sure that "their" patient is being properly attended to. Hospice services are not just to provide a hospital-style bed and a wheelchair. As a direct result of Care Choices' lack of clarity, the Hospice service was waiting for the attending physician to treat, the attending physician was waiting for Hospice to treat, and the family was waiting for the patient to receive necessary care on a prompt basis. As it was, the patient's care was overly delayed, which caused the patient medical distress and the family members completely unnecessary emotional distress.

When they say they are going to come they show up no issues. They show great concern, are available for questions by text and have aided in the recovery of my husband not getting an infection and in care of my mother with multiple health issues and falls. My mother is 91 and also has bath aide with Yolanda, this has been a huge help to me to have this assistance twice a week and has take some weight off my shoulders. She is so very kind and patient with my mother which is beyond wonderful. We have had Stan for PT for both my husband after surgery and my mom after falls and he is OUTSTANDING, compassionate and keeps my mom laughing which helps her spirit. If we need PT we always request Stan! My reason for only giving 3 instead of 5 is NOT the Nurses, Aides or PT it is SUPPLIES - they take months and I have to purchase supplies out of my own pocket then the supplies show up 2-3 months after ordered and WRONG things come, not even what was ordered. For example my husband had foot surgery and supplies were ordered by Jill, followed up at least 5 times and finally THREE MONTHS later they show up and there are multiple things never ordered in the box. In the meantime to avoid an infection I had to purchase supplies. Our recent order for a fall for my mom Jill placed an order on 07/10 and today is 07/22 - NOTHING - multiple follow ups by Jill and Maryann and still nothing. I am not sure why it takes so long for the supplies that are urgently needed for treatment to stop infections. If it is the company Bryam then SWITCH - but this has been an issue for over a year and is very concerning. I have spent hundreds of dollars purchasing supplies that either show up months later or never show up at all. My insurance is being billed for these supplies, but they show up LATE, if treatment was held off waiting on these supplies my husband could have lost his foot from infection. Bryam has a 1.1 rating which should tell you all you need to know about this company.

Every team member demonstrated this compassion; from the bathing aid (Ronnie), nurse and case worker (Anastasia), social worker (Sandie), Admissions Director (Gaza), to the Bereavement Coordinator (Nathan). Please forgive me for other team members that I didn't have the honor of meeting in person but I thank you as well. This team constantly updated me on my dad's condition and made sure I was well informed as to what to expect next. I don't know how the owner (Joey) accomplished such a feat of finding an entire team with compassion, but I am thankful that he did. We never had a need for supplies or equipment, and when a team member made a suggestion for different supplies or equipment it was immediately executed. Below are OFFICIAL findings directly from the FINAL report by the California Department of Public Health (Complaint Number 2641478), which indicated that Compassionate Care was being investigated based on multiple serious complaints within a short period of time -- yet it continues to misrepresent the findings by the Department of Public Health. If they spent as much time combating negative reviews by their customers and fabricating disinformation as they do on patient care, maybe they wouldn't have so many one-star reviews to begin with. "The initial plan of care, updated plans of care, initial assessment, comprehensive assessment, updated comprehensive assessments and clinical notes - This STANDARD is NOT MET as evidenced by: Based on record review and staff interviews, the hospice failed to ensure completion of clinical record to reflect the family member's concern regarding a change in the patient's condition. This failure created the potential for not having the patient's current condition to provide necessary care and services for the patients. " "Signed copies of the notice of patient rights in accordance with Section 418.52 and election statement in accordance with Section 418.24 - This STANDARD is NOT MET as evidenced by: Based on staff interview and record review, the hospice failed to ensure the written addendum showing diagnoses and non-covered items was completed with the actual date completed/provided to the patient/family member... This failure had the potential for not having an accurate information on the patient's clinical record." Read the above for yourself and see if you believe the official report found no deficiencies as asserted by Compassionate Care. There is a clear lack of ethics and humanity toward their patients. A simple phone call or email to the grieving family with an apology would have been a good start, and yet they are incapable of admitting their shortcomings and chose to fabricate results of the findings. I urge anyone considering Compassionate Care to contact the California Department of Public Health regarding the complaints and think hard about whether you would want this organization to care for your family member during their last moments.

He helped push my wheelchair and even brought in a boot and called other clinics to see if they would be able to take my insurance. Unfortunately they do not have imaging at this urgent care so if anyone has laceration issues, do not come here. I felt really cared by Jose and he went above and beyond for the service. It really made the experience bearable since I do not like hospital settings.

From my very first phone call I was treated with great respect and support from administrative as well as care staff. I am SO glad I chose OC Hospice. They were total professionals, when my dad came home from skilled nursing, they delivered all his emergency medications and medical equipment. I was able to schedule a "meet and greet" with the case manager (RN) and social worker and thereafter received regular communications from them as well as the LVN nurses. Their team also included wonderful PT and OT who helped my dad maximize his quality of life during this past year. When things started to go downhill, they were with me all the way, responding to emergency calls and showing up when they were needed. I have heard that not all Hospice agencies are created alike so I am so very grateful I chose OC Hospice. They not only took care of my Dad, they took care, and are continuing to reach out and take care of me. Special thanks to RNs Marissa, Myrka and Erica, and especially LVN Nicole who performed magic on my grumpy Dad eliciting smiles. When the end was near we worked together to provide the appropriate responses and Dad's passing was, as they say, a good death. I cannot say enough good things about them. Our entire family is deeply grateful to the wonderfully caring, dedicated and compassionate team from OC Hospice that took such great care of my dear mother-in-law during the last month of her life. We were afforded such peace of mind, knowing that she was regularly visited by various members of the team, who all made sure she was kept comfortable and pain free. From Nurse Practitioner Tracey, who oversees all of the clinical people, to RNs and LVNs, who would take care of medications, CHHAs who would bathe her and look after her personal care. Great comfort was also provided by Pastor Mark Fitter and Social Worker Erin Kim. Volunteers were also made available, but my mother in law did not require their company. Her last weeks were made more bearable and peaceful, for which we are truly grateful! Thank you, OC Hospice, for being there for us and taking care of all the details that ensue a person's passing. It surely made a very sad day into a bearable and peaceful day. We also would like to express our deep gratitude and appreciation to OC Hospice's founder, Mrs. Lyn Kennedy, as well as congratulate her on having created such a wonderful hospice company, based on the following philosophy: "Because We Care". My 95 year old mother was so blessed to be in OC Hospice's care for quite awhile. We consider Christy like a close family member as she not only took care of our mother but she went way beyond her hospice role in helping me after hours when I had foot surgery. Her tender, loving, sweet, care with my mom was so special to see. Her respect for my mom's modesty was wonderful & her rapid response to my texts, day or night, was so appreciated. Christy is a phenomenal lady & a consummate professional. She helped us in so many ways I cannot begin to tell them all. Angelica was so gentle when bathing my mother & caring for her. Katie took great care to make sure my mom was happy...even with her nail polish color when she was bedridden. That was so important to my mother. Ariel has been very supportive in communicating with me about help offered to all members of our family, during the care, & now as we grieve. My mother had the most peaceful, calm passing. That gives everyone in the family tremendous comfort & we feel so blessed. Mom had other caregivers too, but I am forgetting some names, but they were all wonderful. When the time came to put my husband under hospice care, we initially met with a hospice company recommended by his oncologist. Our meeting left us with more questions than answers and much confusion. My husband knew of OC Hospice so we arranged a meeting with Sylvia. They were very straight-forward in answering all of our questions and we had peace in choosing them. They promptly took care of all the details in getting him under their care. I am so thankful for our night nurse, Karla, who was with me when he passed. She was so kind, and respectful. She took care of everything with such amazing tenderness. In spite of some staffing difficulties over the Christmas holiday they served us with great compassion and care. The staff prayed, cried and grieved with me, offering many services to help our family through and beyond this very difficult time. It is difficult to name all the various OC Hospice staff who served us so well. Thank you OCHospica for all your support and guidance with the passing of our uncle. From the beginning John Guitierrez was so available and thorough with his introduction to the program. He answered all our questions and concerns and help us visualize how this program would all help in our uncles' passing. We feel so fortunate to have been assigned Christina as our hospice nurse. She always answered our calls, no matter what time. Her gentle and compassionate approach with our uncle and family was so heartfelt and appreciated by all. She made the medication training simple so we wouldn't feel intimidated by the process. I highly recommend this program to any family that may have these need in their family. It's a very difficult stage to pass, but OCHospice took a lot of pressure and anxiety off of the gradual loss of our greatly loved and missed uncle Luis. OC Hospice looked after my mother during her last months. The level of attention, professionalism and caring, not only for my mother, but for the whole family was phenomenal. By being on hospice, my mother received the use of medical equipment (hospital bed, wheelchair, oxygen, etc.) at no cost. Her medications, also provided at no cost, were delivered to the house. Nurses came to check her also at no cost. When my mother passed, they took care of all the requirements needed for the authorities and mortuary. Their chaplain also came to the house to say some prayers and console the family. My mother had previously been on hospice, and although many of the services were available through the other hospice company, OC Hospice far exceeded the level of service and caring that the other hospice company provided. read more

What an amazing experience my family had with OC Hospice, they were truly wonderful from the bath aides to the nurses to the social workers. My mom was on hospice care for 9 months and they were so attentive to her needs and always communicated every step of the way regarding her health status.. The nurses, Christy and Katie, were wonderful and so caring with my mom and always available to my family for any questions or concerns. I felt truly blessed to have them caring for my mom and always had peace of mind knowing my mom was well cared for. The social worker Ariel was also wonderful to work with, she was essential with referrals and amazing support throughout the whole process. OC Hospice provided extraordinary care for my father as he struggled through the final stages of his lingering dementia. All members of the OC Hospice team, from administrators to nurses, were excellent communicators, skilled workers, great listeners and most of all compassionate and caring human beings who made a difficult time so much smoother for my family and our father. Through the years of working through the problems associated with dementia, my family and I were disappointed with some of the outside organizations we contracted to assist us. OC Hospice was a blessing in disguise when my mother in law became terminally ill. ALL of the employees went above and beyond for my mother in law while also taking care of each family member during this difficult time. When I was choosing a hospice I felt lost and didn't know what I should be looking for. The Vice President came out to explain the process and he was extremely knowledgeable from the first time we met him. OC Hospice ALWAYS responded to our calls quickly and efficiently. If there were 100 stars on this review I would click on 100 and add more, OC Hospice was so wonderful to have at my Mother's side in the last few months of her life. Every one of the people that they sent were gentle and kind, professional and very experienced in this difficult job they do. They are all angels, and on the day of my Mother's passing, they just knew what to expect and could then help me to prepare for the end. It was peaceful and the suffering left my Mother that last night, the care they gave was a blessing to all of us and in particular to my Mom. I am so appreciative of the OC Hospice Team. When the hospital advised me to put my mom on hospice care, I felt that the team that the hospital recommended did not care about me or her. I felt pushed and railroaded. The OC Hospice team was recommended to me and when I contacted them, they came in and took care of ALL the details. I did not have to worry about anything. I was able to focus on my mother's last days. My first holiday season without my mom has been tough. The OC Hospice team has not forgotten me and stays in touch with me. My family is so glad that we chose OC Hospice to take care of mom during her final days. Their wonderful team supported us with both deep compassion and clinical expertise. Every detail was taken care of so she was able to die according to her wishes: with dignity, without pain and in her own bedroom. When we first took mom home from the hospital, they quickly assessed her and arranged for delivery of the necessary medication and supplies, even though it was very late in the evening. When we needed help in the middle of the night, Christina drove an hour and a half each way to be there with us. We highly recommend OC Hospice. I just referred a client to OC Hospice and I can't say enough about how wonderful they were. I was doing Care Management for a senior who suddenly started having episodes and her health plummeted. The hospital suggested another hospice but I encouraged the family to talk to OC Hospice. They were absolutely wonderful with 24 hour nursing care. The family did not have to worry about anything. They were able to spend the last 5 days with their Mother being physically cared for by a nurse while they came to grips with the situation and be there for her and each other. Having just learned the grim diagnosis in the morning, John came to our house on a Sunday afternoon within an hour of us making the initial call. He explained the process with compassion and professionalism putting everyone at ease under very difficult circumstances. The nurses, support staff and doctor were readily available at all times. They also made some great recommendations for other services we needed. Even after the passing of our loved one, a family member continues to receive therapy support. My family and I are thankful beyond words for the amazing and compassionate service we received from the entire OC Hospice staff. read more

My family was greatly blessed by the service of Orange County Hospice last year during my mother's last days before passing. The difference that having Orange County Hospice made can not be measured, but is much appreciated. It gave us peace and, to her, dignity and care. Everything changed when OC Hospice was on the case. The proper care was given, other care takers instructed and our family kept well informed. We just want to let you know, how grateful we are, to have the help and guidance of O.C. Hospice. In addition to their home visits, Angie (R.N.) and Anna (LVN), are always just a text or phone call away - if we have a question. We never had this kind of support or response to our questions, from our parent's long time physician or their staff. Yesterday I met with Jeanne in her office at OC Hospice with a group of industry professionals where we discussed multiple concerns facing today's seniors - most especially those in crisis. I appreciated Jeanne's effort to assemble a group of people who gave each other insight to expand our understanding of seniors needs across the industry. We are so grateful for the excellent care and support from OC Hospice for my Mother in her final days. Our mother passed away at the home of my sisters and my sister was given great support and training for many of the needs to keep Mom as comfortable and pain free as possible. Since Mom's passing they have kept in touch with us to offer any grief assistance the family needs. It is wonderful to know they continue to care and support after our loss. read more

While individual caregivers meant well, we frequently experienced a lack of support during critical moments. The overall medical oversight was frustratingly disengaged. The doctor's involvement felt casual and strictly part-time, providing minimal proactive guidance when complex situations arose. To make matters worse, simple administrative accuracy was lacking--we had to deal with errors on the death certificate, which caused unnecessary delays and added stress during an already overwhelming time. End-of-life care requires dependable communication, attention to detail, and active physician leadership. I hope Silverado takes serious steps to improve their responsiveness, accuracy, and doctor engagement for future families.
