From my initial point of contact to leaving the office gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Today was my first visit, and I struck gold. Also, I found a parking spot with ease. Style & Vibe: Very accessible, super cute, and extremely clean. The decor in the waiting room is "boho-chic" because of the color palette, minimal furniture pieces, the style of the furniture, and the greenery {plants.} The subtle fragrance is also a plus. Everyone I made contact with displayed genuine care and concern in addition to being friendly and efficient. Waiting: The waiting time in the lobby and inside the exam room is minimal. The best part is, you will not feel rushed Dr. Shereen I Oloufa. MD is a professional with personality and bedtime mannerisms. She made me feel welcomed and displayed a genuine concern as she was not hiding behind a tablet/iPad and rushing through her routine. When she entered the room, I felt a sense of peace thanks to her approach and technique. Time for the Table: Usually, I get tense and uncomfortable during my wellness checks, but today was a first where I felt calm and relaxed. Dr. Shereen I Oloufa did not have to tell me to relax. She kept the conversation lite and meaningful. My time on the table was pain-free and fast. The doctor explained things in simple terms, and she shared the steps I should take now that I am in the 40/40 club - I am referring to my age ;-). Sis, don't think twice, book the appointment!!

I brought the ultrasound that the surgeon proceeded to ignore. He the requested another ultrasound, another mammogram, then a biopsy .The biopsy results came back while he was on vacation so I downloaded report to find out on my own I had cancer. After his vacation, he then still wanted to do an MRI. MRI at South Lake Hospital was 21 days later -allegedly the earliest available appointment. He insisted all tests had to be done at South Lake Hospital (the most costly diagnostic center in Clermont!). When I noticed he still did not seem to have any intentions to refer me to an oncologist, I REFERRED MYSELF TO AN ONCOLOGIST! Meanwhile the tumor had grown from 2.9 cm. to 4 cm. Approximately over 2 months had passed since the original ultrasound (the one the staff demanded I do before granting me a consultation or appointment with the surgeon). You have to wonder if surgeon was waiting for tumor to keep growing to charge more money for surgery! If you want quality care, go elsewhere.

The office space appeared to be an old home or small office building that had been converted into two different doctor's offices. The receptionist was polite and collected $185.00 for the office visit. I thought it was a little steep but chalked it up to the fee for a specialist. I waited in the tiny waiting room for quite some time (he was running behind), and then was escorted to a room that had a divider with supplies stored behind it. Of course, I had to wait approximately an additional 20-30 minutes in that room. While I was waiting, I removed my splint contraption that the ER had sent me home in so I would be ready for the doctor. I heard the doctor finish speaking with the patient next door and then heard him ask the assistant for my x-rays. He spent approximately 3 minutes (no exaggeration) looking at my x-rays and then finally came in the room. He asked if I could move my arm in various ways and then informed me I needed a cast on my hand an arm brace. I told him that I did not want a hard cast, but would consent to a soft cast. He said he would send his assistant in with the soft cast. Before he left the room, I asked for an instruction sheet or some exercises that I could do to help the recovery process. He paused and said something on the order of "it's not hard, just move it around." I was almost certain that he wanted to say, "it's not brain surgery," but caught himself with a pause. He promptly left the room. Once the assistant came in, we asked the price on the cast and arm brace and were told for both the price would be nearly $800! We said we would find it elsewhere and were given a script. Dr. Schuler was in the room with me for approximately 7-10 minutes- and that's on the generous side. As I was leaving, I asked the receptionist again if I owed any additional monies. In my head, I knew that I would not be returning because I was not impressed with his bedside manner at all, especially after the last comment. I did not want to owe a dime to him. The receptionist confirmed I did not owe any additional money. Approximately 3 months later, I received a bill for $1,791 for a "treatment" that I allegedly received from this doctor. I immediately called and spoke to Dr. Shuler's billing person, Polly, she told me that the bill was from the hospital (who recommended him as a follow-up physician) and that she used the medical code for a treatment because he looked at my x-rays. Polly said she forwards the medical codes to the hospital billing company and she was not going to change the coding. I pointed out to her several times that I never received a treatment from Dr. Shuler, but only a consultation and that the bill did not even accurately reflect that I had already paid $185! Then Polly told me that the original bill was $2800 and she said something on the order that $1000 goes to the doctor and $1791 goes to the hospital, insinuating that I should be grateful that is was only $1791. I once again told her that $2800 did not seem accurate for literally 7-minute total consultation, and she basically told me tough luck and hung up on me. I don't understand why Orlando Regional Health/Dr. Phillips Hospital should get a dime for me going to their recommended doctor under the guise of a bill for a "treatment" that I never received. Asking if I can move my hand/arm in a few directions is not a treatment. Had I not gone to Dr. Shuler, I wouldn't have received a bill from the hospital billing company and the hospital wouldn't be making an additional $1791 for a 7-minute consultation that was not on hospital property. I was irate and read up on the legal definition of kickback and read an article on Stark Law violations and thought it might fit this situation. Anyone can read up on this topic and make their own decision. I appreciate that he is a specialist and their fees are slightly higher than a regular physician. However, this bill is not reasonable and not accurate. In the meantime, all I can do to help others is to tell of my experience so they can make their own educated decision on their choice of a doctor and continue to fight this ridiculous bill.

I cancelled the surgery because no one could give me info re the surgery. Or physical therapy after the surgery. Or were my labs done that they needed. I called and called starting two months before surgery. One phone call in five of mine were returned. I lost confidence in him because someone wasn't supervising the staff properly. I even was on the patient portal of his office and could not get straight answers. I am a professional nurse and this sort of lack of communication with the patient is unacceptable. Especially if they are having surgery. The lack of returned phone calls by the surgery scheduler is also not okay. Dr g white may be awesome but his staff is not. I'm going to Gainesville for my surgery. I've had three surgeries there with none of this lack of communication. Btw: a lack of a pre-op appt is also not okay. For last minute questions. And concerns. I had to fight to get one. It was three days before the surgery. Not soon enough! I will also communicate this to dr white via a letter.
