August 21st, 2019 was my dad's first visit to the Ocoee office. He was there for a post-op after spending 6 days in the hospital from a severe appendicitis with abruption. I must also mention that my dad has the beginning stages of dementia, which is noted in his medical history. The surgeon was not available, and we saw the PA and she asked him questions then began to send him on his way. I thought that was strange and asked her if she was going to examine him, but she said it wasn't necessary that he answered her questions and she didn't hear anything that concerned her. I asked her to look at his incisions and she did from about 4 ft away but never touched him. We left and, on the way home, not 2 mins passed when my dad tells me he feels humiliated with hurt in his voice. I turned the car around and asked to speak to the office manager. She wasn't in and we spoke to someone else. She comforted my dad and let us know that she would speak to the manager and get us an appointment with the surgeon. We thanked them for their kindness and went home.
Thursday, the next day, the office manager called wanting to understand what happened and after I explained she defended the actions of her PA stating that she'd been there for 6 years without a complaint and herself 25 years and this was common practice however she would ask her why she didn't at least exam his sutures. I told her that I took my dad to his PCP after I left the office and they addressed the issue the PA missed which was that the drainage opening under his belly had opened some and needed cleaning and dressing but her words turned from professional to personal and she told me I had a chip on my shoulder, that I'm trying to put a stain on the PA's record. I was so shocked at the accusation that I raise my voice and then she began to overact, making statements about me as if we'd met before. It is unfortunate because the doctors that worked on my dad saved his life, but we will never return because of these conditions. For the record the staff was very friendly, and everything would have earned them 5 stars had the PA done her job and had the office manager handle herself with the utmost professionalism. We didn't have a chip on our shoulders, we only expected a certain standard of care and if this is your practice than it is not for us. Thank you for saving my dad's life either way. read more
