Oaxaca Fresh - Estofado de Pollo - Mexican Near Me - Carpinteria, California

We have been visiting this restaurant for the past 10 years. The food is ok, nothing to write home about. You always know what your are going to get, you just don't know when you are going to get it. Service is the pits, I would give one star for service. They are obviously understaffed, ask for more corn tortillas--you get flour, ask for another beverage, get your bill. Well you get the point. Come hungry and with patience--though the latter ever happens when you are hungry! read more

The beans were the best, the rest just ok. Four diners, three different plates. Chile relleno was good, tamales were bland and al pastor burrito was just ok. Service was meh, not friendly, not quick, just there. The potential to be great is there on all counts. read more

One of my COVID regular outings is a long bike ride with a couple of friends from Ventura to Carp. We usually go to Esau's for brunch and love it. Today it was packed, so we opted to go to Oaxaca Fresh instead. The tables were all outside under umbrellas and spaced far apart and into the street with barriers. The owner waited on us. The service was amazing, of course. The chips and salsas were fresh and delish. I ordered the Carne Asada platter. The entree arrived and the steak was marinated and cooked to perfection. The beans and rice were light and savory. Fresh avocado and sautéed peppers and onions topped the dish. Not too heavy, not smothered in cheese, not oily. It was SO GOOD. The tortillas were hot and a little crispy, and it was just a great meal. One of us got the carne asada burrito and that was also excellent. I will definitely be coming back to this place. I love that the owner took such pride in his food. It's GREAT!!!! read more

We're in from the East Coast for a few days and decided to drop in for a Friday lunch. Oaxacaqueno Sampler and pork tacos. Things were a bit on the bland side, except the chile verde enchilada and the rice and bears were all quite good. Pork tacos needed something. Lime, salt, something. The Mole tamale was disappointing. We found the service to be good and the food came pretty quickly. read more

Overcooked Shrimp, Cold Rice, took forever to get our order taken and prepared. We were one of two parties in the restaurant at the time so it was not busy. Staff did not even ask if we liked the food, wanted more tea/water, etc.. They claim Oaxaca "fresh" .. they owe Oaxaca an apology. Booths are tiny and you are squeezed in (and I'm not fat). Next time we are going right past this place unless we can see that service and serving times have improved. read more

The food and salsa is bland. Literally no service. With only one other couple in the restaurant it's not like they were too busy. Many times we waited and waited until I had to get up multiple times to ask for anything. With so many better options available in Carp we will not be back read more

Had breakfast here, the coffee was TERRIBLE. Basically coloured water with a kind of washed-pans-dishwater taste. The breakfast burrito was pretty good, but it's hard to mess that up... The chilaquiles were awful, like slightly moist nachos with tomato, not chile, sauce. And even the side-potatoes were kind of dull. The tortilla chips they used were pretty nice though. Possibly the Oaxacan lunch/dinner menu is better. I read the menu, and it might be okay, but with so much good Mexican available in LA, I won't risk it. read more

The food was delicious and the service was good. The fresh salsa they serve with chips has great flavor, although it's very mild. They do have a chipotle salsa if you ask for it, which has a bit more kick. The Oaxaca burrito is especially good. Imagine a great carne asada burrito with everything you'd expect inside, but instead of cheap skirt steak it has tender, delicious tri-tip. My wife and I eat at Mexican restaurants quite a bit, and Oaxaca Fresh is one of the best we've found yet! read more

This Mexican restaurant is very authentic, small and tasty. The Micheladas are great and the flour tortillas are fresh, fluffy melt in your mouth. If your looking for something consistent, laid back and authentic, swing by. read more

Moles are authentic and delicious. Cozy environment. Water is filtered. Family owned and very friendly. Food is great! You can tell they put a lot of care into their food. Oaxacan food is not particularly spicy, but they can spice it up if you prefer. One of our favorite places in Carpinteria! read more

We stopped for lunch and were impressed! House made horchata was DELICIOUS!!! Chicken enchiladas and carne as ads burrito were on point! Definitely recommend!! read more

This place is absolutely terrible. You ever walk into a place and instantly regret making that decision. I placed an online order and the guy said 5-10 min. I already felt his 5 min claim was more accurate and had a deep feeling of huh...that was way too quick to say 5 minutes. When your gut instinct kicks in and you ignore....when I walked in I immediately wanted to walk out. The vibes were off :X the scene looked dirty and disgusting. I paid 16$ for my dish already I was like :$ but I already made my choice. I took my food to go and as soon as I began to eat my tortillas weren't cooked. I don't know how restaurants normally do tortillas where they are so hot and steamy and yummy. These were not that. I feel like they were cold and stale so I didn't feel them cooked properly. That's not all, the meat was dry, burned and cold. It's as if it had been sitting under a lamp and some cheese had been sprinkled very quickly. The rice was disgusting. Ithe beans were the only thing I barely ate. I don't ever toss my leftovers but in this case they went straight to the garbage. I don't predict they will last long. And the guy def gave creepy energy. It's really hard to explain but something was off. hasta luego Oaxaca Fresh nunca mas and y'all shouldn't either. read more

Amazing service and great food! The mojarra was delish and the lemonade was sweet and fresh. Highly recommended.

Large selection of vegetarian items. Great veggie tacos. Attentive service. Salsa is fresh. Guac is OK- rather mild. read more

This place looked good from the outside. Decent service. A bit warm inside with a single ceiling fan in a corner. Stuffy warm. Ordered the halibut but was served another fish that resembled tilapia. Told owner about the fish but he thought it was halibut. Totally not and not cool to advertise one fish and substitute it for a cheaper one. Flavors great just feel duped. read more

Sorry to find that the Palms was closed but that led to discovering this delightful restaurant. We couldn't have wanted better food or more attentive service. Everything was very fresh and served hot even with all the extra precautions. Now, this will be our regular stop when passing through Carpinteria. read more

Two stars for the food, which was good, not great. The service was the most basic I've ever experienced. That is to say, our order was taken (though not promptly), stale chips & decent salsa were proffered, drinks and food were deposited in front of us (both at the same time, no drinkie in advancie here!), the check, however, was promptly given, and our attendant suddenly sped up once it was time to process the credit card. No smile, no eye contact, no thank you and, thus, a miserly tip from us. I guess we were there at Siesta time on a Sunday (about 2 p.m.) and thus were being unbelievably rude to patronize this establishment when there were clearly more pressing matters at hand. It appeared to be the owner that attended to us, even! Seriously, if you don't want business and want to nap a couple hours, put up a CLOSED sign and go knock yourself out! read more

Great breakfast burritos but I didn't enjoy their food too much I felt it was overpriced for the quality. There is a lot of good Mexican in Carpinteria, and this place is about a 6/10. read more

I ordered qassadea with shrimp on their homemade tortillas. It was delicious, finger licking good. Maria is very pleasant the cook a little serious but what cooks are not. I could tell the food is fresh and he cooks with pride. I'm going back soon for their mole negro next time ;) read more

Unfortunately not a positive experience. I tend not to post bad reviews.... But.... The service was HORRIBLE and the food matched ! I do not know what flavor they were going for but it was not Mexican. Two children two adults was $60.00 ... Don't do it ... Go to the taco/ice cream shop next door...they make pretty good tacos (simple menu). We love this town and want to support the local business ... Maybe the chef was sick that day ! read more

Food has been coming out bland lately. This will probably be our last visit until they return to our earlier experiences. The outside table service is slow. It is overpriced for the quality - definitely. Suggest walk away tacos from Don Roge next door. I think this place has run it's course. The owner takes up valuable parking right in front of his restaurant (with this marked truck) - not a smart move. read more

This place is run down and looks dirty. My tostada salad was so watery and tasteless, I asked the water for hot salsa. He grunted when he brought it. I never saw him or the bus person again. After 20 mins I had to get up and ask the cashier who was busy talking for more iced tea. This is when I noticed I was the only customer. The girl who brought my check dropped it over my shoulder without a word. I will never go back! I suggest you walk the few extra steps to Cajun Kitchen excellent food and service everytime. read more

This place is TERRIBLE. Do not eat here! 1. It was really hot inside the restaurant making for a very uncomfortable dinner, 2. There are NO margaritas (so go to Señor Frog's if you're looking for a complete Mexican food experience) 3. Everything we ordered was "out for the night" ex. I ordered shredded beef flautas and they were out of beef, my friend ordered shrimp tacos... Then after 10 minutes of already having our order in, the server comes back and says they are out of shrimp for the night. The crazy part was that we were there at 7:00 p.m. which is typically the beginning/middle of dinner service. On top of the heat and food supply being limited the server was rude and slow. Avoid at all costs, you'll be glad you did. read more

Best Mexican food I've had in years. Enchiladas and chili rellano were perfect for this gringa ... I could drink the salsa by the glass.

BEWARE!!! My boyfriend, two of my friends, and I went to this restaurant a few days ago. We all came down with the same stomach flu a couple days later. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant to everyone. The food wasn't tasty. The meat was overcooked, and the ingredients didn't seem fresh. I'm not surprised that we got sick knowing the quality of the food. Stay away! read more

I saw this place walking by. It's my 1st time there and also my last. The place is awful. The service was very slow. Had to ask for everything. Silverware, more water etc. The food was bland. The worst part was the chips and guacamole. Thick, stale chips and plastic tasting guacamole. The rice was pretty tasty but, that was really about it. If you are downtown, keep walking. read more

Chicken mole excellent, red sauce cheese enchiladas awesome, good guacamole & salsa. Quiet clean restaurant, will go again real soon yum yum
