Made a massive mistake by going here tonight. Had originally intended on going next door. Ordered the caritas burrito. The chips and salsa a was good start, however my friend had told me "they have the best salsa's." I was at the wrong place....it's next door, but, what the heck, i'll try. Chips were okay,,,salsa's were okay at best. Heck, i was able to meet lots of others in the same boat. Now 35 Minutes later I was served my plate. Not the order I asked for but at that point okay. Not the burrito but a caritas plate. The owner had excuses, after excesses. "We're busy" really, I was the only one customer in the left side of retail space. The other two were perhaps empolyees sitting at a table having an Bible or two open with them. How long do I have to wait..... Finally, got it to. The canrnitas was okay but not the best. read more

This restaurant was quite cozy and friendly service. Perhaps the service could have been slightly faster but overall it was fast enough. The food was quite nice but not fantastic. read more

First of all, this Mexican restaurant does not serve margaritas. Do not be fooled by the online menu. Second of all, they only take cash. Third of all, HORRIBLE FOOD, extremely bland. Gave it one star for the decent service, otherwise don't waste your money. read more

Amazing food! The best horchata I have ever tasted! The taquitos are exceptional - nothing like the traditional small ones you find at most places! Everything is made fresh! Me and my husband stopped by for lunch and really enjoyed this restaurants authentic atmosphere, prompt and warm hospitality, accessibility to the beach, and amazing food! Definately recommend this restaurant! Our new favorite spot to eat! read more

Best Mex in Carp. Huge burritos, fresh made chips, the meat is all fresh and of excellent quality (no grisly fat at all). My wife is very picky and she ate the whole plate. My younger 2 both got kids burgers and they were hand made patties with excellent quality meat, I finished my 5 year olds as it was very large but it was very good. read more

Don't try and use your Axxess card here... after ordering we were told that we'd have to order 2 drinks at $3/each to get the deal.. and when I mentioned that this was not on the axxess website or in the book, they told us that we were lucky they were taking it at all, since it was summer. The food was not much better than the service, the shrimp fajitas had barely any shrimp, and the chili relleno was mushy and tasteless. I live in Carp and have eaten here many times over the years, and both the food and service have really gone downhill... we will not be going back again. read more

We were in town and were attracted by the exterior of this restaurant in hopes that the food would be close to authentic as well as the service. What a let down! My husband ordered a Michelada , the waitress which I believe is the owners wife was dry, and almost to the point of rude.. We are Latinos and we take pride in our culture with friendly, welcoming energy and service. You won't get it here. The Michelada had no garnishing it looked like s watered down glass of tomato juice with no presentation, not even a seasoning on the rim. The chips were stale. The salsa was horrible! What is it about a Mexican entrepreneur opening a Mexican restaurant and losing all of the culture not only in the food but in the attitude. Hey, we already have a Taco Bell chain, Oaxaca owner get it together. Go back to your roots and reconnect with the Mexican culture. The waitress brought our bill to table before we were finished eating, that is like sweeping under your table while you are eating. Menudo was tasteless, no flavor or notable spices. Disappointed!!! This is no manner to run a restaurant! We will not be returning. Save yourself the trouble and pass on this restaurant, for what you pay its not worth it. Thank you Yelp for giving us a choice of where we spend our hard earned money!! read more

Bad food, bad service. Waited FOREVER to get our order taken and waited even longer for our not-great food. And they made us miss the sunset! read more

I used to be a fan of this place. Last weekend I went and placed a to-go order, I stood waiting for it by the counter that looks into the kitchen. I was a little concerned that the chef was cooking with his bare hands but assumed he probably washed them. But then, I watched as he got melted cheese from my Quesadilla stuck on his finger, LICKED IT OFF HIS FINGER and then continued to cook my food and then chop vegetables in the back room. I was digusted! And all this he did right in front of me, well aware that I was there and could see him! Anyways, I'm sorry to say it - I'm sure the owners of the place are nice, but that chef should go. I didn't end up eating my food and wasted $9. read more

Great authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. Delicious! I had the chicken enchilada and carne asada taco combination which came with a generous portion of rice and bean sides. Fast and attentive service. I will be back the next trip. read more

my favorite place for mexican food in the area... the owners are soo nice and they have the best food. try the guac.

YUM! The mole is made in the restaurants kitchen and the tortillas :) I recommend the horchata and cafe

From Chino CA. Always stop here for lunch when heading to Carmel. What a gem. Can't go wrong. Service is so so but who cares, your in Carpenteria. Nothing moves fast here. read more

Our food took forever to arrive, but it was delicious when it arrived. I think this is the kind of place where you have to know what to order. Still great food after a long day at the beach read more

First time here - terrible service, long wait to order and long wait for food. My order was wrong once I got it. Once we got the food it was below average. Bland bland bland. Yuck. And hours later, my stomach is queesy. read more

Bland mediocre food, extremely slow service. Hot inside (no air con) flies everywhere. Will not be back sorry.

Pretty bland al pastor and ended up with a stomach ache a few hours later. Sorry but this is a No.

Great food! The beans are so good. Excellent service. We will be back the next time we are in town.

Slow service and poor food. Don't sit in the booth at the front by the window. The ants were really annoying....

The omelette was horrible! Under cooked and bad flavor. Other reviews say the Mexican food is good at this place...I'd recommend sticking to that. read more

A reliable place for good quality at a really decent price for a more-or-less traditional family-run Mexican restaurant. Have had a number of dishes, all of them made the grade, none were outstanding, but they have all been good. read more

Food is great! Service not so much...salsa is not good taste like tomatoes with some onion thrown in. Beer is cold!!

Wow, this place has gone downhill. This used to be my go-to for Mexican food in Carp. The last few times I've been in the food has been less than impressive, but tonight my chicken mole enchiladas were inedible. Not only was the food awful, but when the server saw my untouched plate she neither inquired as to why nor did she offer to comp or discount the meal. Though I once loved this restaurant, I won't be going back. read more

While looking at the menu in the window, we got some good feedback from a patron about the food here. So, between that and there being few places open still, and some gnawing bellies, we decided to give it a shot. We ordered the Super Bowl, a Chile Verde burrito and a bean and cheese burrito. Everything was okay - nothing extraordinary. The beans and rice were bland. I wasn't too excited about the prospect of the grilled veggies on the tostada, as previous experiences were always soggy veggies....but the ones here were actually very good and the best part of the meal! Their horchata is one of the best we've tasted. Service was meh. The server was good at his job, but not very friendly. Our bellies were filled, but we're not sure that we'd go back. read more

We were visiting in Carpenteria looking for something close to were we stayed. Yes 2 entrances was confusing but we went indoor #2. The first night a very nice lady took our to go order food was good salsa excellent. Instead of cooking our 2ned night we went back. The owner served us and packed up our to go order. There were enough left overs for breakfast. The tortillas appears to be home made not too bulky and the salsa worth the drive for a day trips not too hot and plenty of it. Place was very clean, food above average service with an extra smile. we hit every Mexican restaurant where ever we wander. read more

Ask for the lemonade - it's hand made it limes and excellent. Chile verde is excellent, as is everything else we've had here over the years. We love the service as it's a small family owned place with great people. The vegetarian dishes are great. read more

Good food. Friendly family that runs the place. Not the greatest atmosphere. Try the mole and the tamales.

Good food. Hard working people. Locally owned and independently run.

the monte ablan with extra sauce and mushrooms was delicious. wish we got it with shrimp instead of chicken though.

Bland tasting. The beef was overcooked. The rice was very dry and the tortillas were stale. The service was very slow. We couldn't wait to get the check and go to get food somewhere else. We had 5 meals and not one of them was good. read more

We were the only ones in the restaurant being served (well, not served, actually). I had to go to the counter to get some help, chips were not fresh, food less than satisfactory - I had the carnitas tostada (yuck, it was NOT good), had to ask for water, staff acted like they were doing us a favor, we even had to ask for the bill. I'm amazed they are still open - here they are located on the main street - maybe they live off of tourists. We ate here a couple of years ago and it was the same service / food - we thought we'd try them again to give them a 2nd chance - no more. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. We've been going here for years and lately it is horrible. Maybe the worst dining experiences I've ever had horrible. I never write reviews, I really don't care that much, but our experience was that bad. The few patrons in the restaurant were actually speaking with each other and describing their awful food and how long they'd been waiting. We sent the "cheeseburger" back. It looked like a microwaved school lunch or frozen food that would come with a frozen dinner. I had an enchilada and taco combo that was cold and tasteless. When I say tasteless I mean nothing...like it actually took the flavor out of my mouth. How can beans and rice taste like terrible nothingness?!?! We were there for over an hour and a half even though there were only 2 other customers. The two waitresses were walking around and rubbing walls/counters/salt shakers with a dirty rag. I don't know what the "cook" was up to. It was strange and terrible and I implore you not to bother with this place. What a shame?! Where is the owner?! read more

After looking at the choices for Mexican food in Carpinteria we decided to give them a try. We were very pleased with our food. One of their specialities is their chile rellenos. They were the best I can remember. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Food looked good, but didn't taste good at all. No flavor & very bland. The waitress was nice when she greeted us but never came back. A runner dropped off food and no one ever checked on us or if we needed anything...not recommended! Two Thumbs Down! read more

This is the worst place I have been at for a long time. First the chairs and tables are too small. Second we waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. Finally the food was bad when it got there. I don't recommend this place. This shit wackttros read more

Carp's food selection is tough. Oaxaca takes so-so, but the service is infamous for being laughably awful. Because the service is so bad, I can't give it more than a star. I rather just go to Rudy's (cheaper, tastes better) or Siam Elephant, which is amazing Thai food (and has oustanding service). read more

We were visiting the town for the first time, and this little place seemed welcoming so we decided to eat there. Not too expensive, food tasted great and they make homemade bomb tortillas ! read more

I Eat here all the time. Well, I used to. Just parked in the back and the guy that's usually nice to me was yelling at me saying he was going to tow my truck! Wth??. You can take your Chile relleno and stuff it another way! Small town with tons of Mexican restaurants. Adios, jerks! read more

Let's see where do I start...it was bad. The worst shrimp cocktail I have ever had. It took me a while to identify the flavor profile. It was like V8 dosed with unlimited amounts of garlic, chunks of onions and tomatoes and then watered down with water. The shrimp, we'll they were edible, I guess. The avocado was good. My girlfriend ordered cheese enchiladas, and they were bland, and the sauce was missing something, could not figure out. We should have known when we got the chips and salsa and the salsa tasted like watered down tomatoes. Luckily no garlic. Needless to say, we did not eat eat, paid a 28 dollar check and headed to the spot. read more
