Listen. If you haven't tried savory oatmeal, you need to. After a life of eating oatmeal exclusively with some sort of sweetener added (brown sugar, agave, honey, maple syrup), I decided to give savory oatmeal a try at Oat Couture Oatmeal Cafe. I ordered their Atlas bowl which consists of oats, a savory pool of peanut butter on top, and chia seeds sprinkled around the perimeter. It was amazing. Savory oatmeal is the jam. I'm full steam ahead and never looking back. The peanut butter stirred in beautifully and the chia seeds added a nice little crunch. It was delicious. For my beverage, I got their salted caramel latte which was also delicious. Their espresso is rich and smooth and for a flavored latte, it wasn't overly sweet. Delish! Everyone was sooooo kind! And the food was amazing! Their menu has food that accomodates anyone. Just ask, because the menu is pretty extensive! The oatmeal options are amazing. I had a lemon one and it was so good. My husband had a nutella one that was too chocolately for me. But they were incredible. I would go here again and again for the creative oatmeal options. The coffee was fantastic too, I had a maple latte that was divine! The environment was so quaint too. We had a cozy table that looked like it was made from concrete. There was concrete art at the bar and every decorative piece was interesting and pleasant to be around. There was even two hanging chairs in the front that looked super inviting. Outside there was a cart of lunch bags that were available to "anyone that needs one". THe restroom was a bit small but clean and it all was just a great visit. I had lunch here with one of my friends (Stacey B who's my friend irl that I recruited onto Yelp. Yay! Lol) and it was great. So Oat Couture (I have to say, as a person who loves food and fashion, I really love the clever name) is a cafe that sells oatmeal. Before you say "oatmeal bowls? Been there, done that!" listen to this: they have savoury oatmeal bowls (!) They have sweet oatmeal bowls too, but we went there specifically for the savoury ones. I got the Kyoto, which had beef brisket, shiitake mushrooms, pineapples and peanuts. There was some pickled ginger in it as well. I got a small bowl, which was $7. Medium was $11 and large was $14. The small looked really small, but I was actually satisfactorily full afterwards. I loved the beef brisket. It was actually lean! And also really tender. The sauce was sticky and slightly sweet. The shiitake mushrooms were also well marinaded and had lots of flavour. The pineapple chunks were fresh pineapple and not canned, yay! The amount of peanuts was excessive in my opinion, I could have done with half the amount, but I did like the crunch it added to the bowl. The pickled ginger (which was cut up into tiny pieces) added just the right amount of zing. I really enjoyed my oatmeal bowl. The flavours went well together. Stacey had the Hangover (cheddar, apples, bacon, maple syrup, and caramelized onions) and while I didn't have any, I could smell the bacon and it smelled so good! Lol. They also sell coffee and tea, sodas, oat-based drinks, and baked goods. I liked that they had a water dispenser where you can help yourself to water. Service was nice and friendly. You order, pay at the cash register, and pick up your order when it's ready and seat yourself. The place is not that big and seats are close together, so it would probably be really snug in there when it's busy. Decor is cool. I love their hammock-like suspended chairs at the front window. There is a single gender neutral washroom. For some reason there was a large flat screen TV in the washroom (!?!) It was not turned on when I was there. The washroom was clean, but they were out of paper towels during my visit - better than being out of soap! It was my first time having savoury oatmeal and I loved it. I have to make my way through their menu, but I decided on the Kyoto bowl the last time, which has beef brisket, shiitake mushrooms, fresh pineapple, crushed peanuts, pickled ginger, green onion, and sesame seeds. I really enjoyed it! Hearty and filling, naturally sweet from the pineapple and savoury with the brisket. Definitely recommend sweet oatmeal fans give it a shot for something different! We were tempted to pick up some wine and beers to-go from their selection, but next time I visit I'll have to get a takeout scotch tasting flight since they also moonlight as Montgomery Scotch Lounge! read more

I was very impressed by Oat Couture. This unassuming little coffee shop/oatmeal outlet was warm and inviting like a hot bowl of its eponymous grain cereal. Mind you, this is not traditional oatmeal. This is indeed haut couture. I had the savoury "bubba" oatmeal dish which featured shrimp and avocado served on a bed of oatmeal that was infused with cumin, lime and green onion. The result was delightful. It was not unlike a flavourful rice side dish - warm, soft but not overwhelming. The menu otherwise looked expansive with a variety of both sweet and savoury creations that made me want to come back and try more. The staff was quite friendly and I enjoyed their choice of music. Extremely cute little restaurant/café. They have some of the best lattes - I always get mine with oat milk! We went here recently and I had the lunchbox and it is so yummy, but definitely filling. This place makes great food, and drinks don't get me wrong. However, I went to order an iced mocha yesterday made with oat milk, assuming it would be gluten free. This is super important to me because I have celiac disease and cannot consume gluten. I forgot to ask if the oat milk they were using was gluten free, so as the girl was making the drink, I asked her if the oat milk was gluten free because I have an allergy. Annoyed, she quickly glanced at the carton and gave an unsure nod of the head. I thanked her and left. In my car, I was still uncertain so I searched up "minor figures oatmilk" and it turns out they're NOT gluten free. The barista told me it was. I could've gotten very sick drinking the mocha which I payed $7 for, but thankfully my gut instinct told me to google it. I'm not complaining about the food, just the barista who was working yesterday (sunday july 18, 3:30 pm). She was kinda rude and didn't take my gluten allergy seriously. I like oats and was looking forward to breakfast here. However I found the portions small and deceptively presented. E.g. they show the bowl sizes but the small bowl I got was only about 2/3 full. And it tapers down so the bottom of the bowl is much smaller than the top. Finally, the toppings are cold so you end up with a bowl of slightly warm oatmeal. Too expensive for what you get.
