The only part I liked about my experience was the driver and the ride there and the ride back. The bus driver was Shelley. I wish I got the rest of the names but they were very rude to me and the bus driver. They didn't share the tips with the driver so I had to tip just the driver! read more

This was a 1st for me. A Commerical trip on the Yampa river, my 12th trip since 1982 on the Yampa river through Dinosaur National Monument, CO/UT. It was a great opportunity to take some photos where I was too busy paddling a canoe or kayak or rowing a raft. Wow, what a solid experience for our 10-day road trip and this being the beginning adventure. We got so lucky to have found OARS. Our guides Matt and Julia were incredible, they truly know how to guide. I had worries about falling off and or flipping and that was never the case once we hit our first major rapid. So enthusiastic & leading with pre rapid heads up. Matt was our guide for our 4 person crew and he was so phenomenal, energetic and was always up to get a photo op. Julia the main leader holding 6 others was diligent, communicative, and constantly getting to know us / check in. Lunch was fantastic, we all ate too much. Our very experienced guides - Julia (team leader), Oscar, Kolby, Ben, Pierce and Demitra, took us on an adventurous trip on the Green River for four days through The Gates of Ladore. What a professionally-run adventure! From the moment we met our trip leader, Lee, to the tearful goodbyes with guides Abby and Edie at the end of our 5-day run, my party knew we were in the best of hands. Our group of 8 guests included folks who have run many rivers world-wide to a couple "newbies" who hadn't yet done an overnight float. Each of us had an incredible experience and our newbie is already planning her next river trip with OARS. The scenery on the Yampa is comparable to a sized-down Grand Canyon, and the water is big and fun. We loved the side-hikes to see petroglyphs and pictographs, waterfalls, and historical signatures from early explorers. I've never seen anyone work so hard in my life. Julia, Chris, Carly and Corrine have all catapulted up the ranks of my favorite people. Chris ripped a log in half with his bare hands at one point. Corrine was my personal MVP though. I needed somebody to talk to after I took a spill in the river and she recognized that, pulled me aside and let me vent. Out of all the work the whole crew did on our trip, that meant the most to me. Highly recommend this crew! read more

Sometimes you go on a rafting trip and the guide is kind of a know-it-all prick adventure junkie who is blabbering on and on about things you don't care about or acting like he is god's gift to the world. That wasn't the case here. Our guides--a guy with a blond ponytail and a gray haired guide--were both friendly, funny, professional, and all around good guys. And the trip itself was reasonably priced and extremely scenic. The Green River wasn't exactly a thrill a minute--but you can't blame the company for that when it's late August in Utah and there's been a drought. It was still very pretty and I had a good, relaxing time. But I can't stress enough that the people here are who made this a company I wouldn't mind rafting with again. Everyone from the bus driver to the guides to the people working in the officer was extremely friendly and helpful. Much better than a trip I took in Colorado where the guide spent the day talking about his love of guns and hatred for the government. read more

What an amazing adventure! Our 4-day rafting trip was a good mix of river time, hiking, swimming, lounging, storytelling and, of course, eating. I was truly impressed by our guides' knowledge of history, geology and biology of the area -- and their cooking skills. The food was delicious -- from tacones to pineapple upside down cake and tuna poke to steak cooked to order. And fresh fruit and veggies galore! The views were jaw-dropping everywhere you looked, and I loved the camaraderie our group developed working, living and laughing together in this short, but meaningful, time. Everything was so well-organized, and the trip leader, Andrew (aka "Soggy") could not have done a better job... gave clear instructions, showed himself to be deeply knowledgeable not only about the Dinosaur Monument, but about the river and rafting. He also was great at problem solving and making everyone feel welcome. The other guides - Mate, Eedy, Clark, Jeremy and Skyler were also very knowledgeable, highly well-trained and skilled at connecting with a wide variety of guests. I cannot speak highly enough of the fine, fine people at Don Hatch. I was co-leading a private trip down the Green this past weekend in very high, very cold water. Now, we are experienced rafters and have done the Gates of Ladore stretch plenty of times, but as can happen on any trip, we had a pretty serious accident on one of our boats on the late afternoon of our first day. We flipped a raft, the raft that held the majority of our food and sleeping bags, and the friend leading that raft took an oarlock to the face in the process, cutting up around his eye. The three who had been in the raft swam to shore, but with the water level as high as it was, they had no way to walk downstream to catch up with the other two rafts. Suddenly, only a few miles down the river, we'd lost most of our provisions, had an injury and had three of our group separated from the rest of us with no way to reach the rest of us except by a dangerously cold swim. Luckily, the professional, kind and generous people of Don Hatch had a trip coming down the river behind us. They helped those from the flipped raft get back to the rest of the group, abandoned their planned camp site to stay near us and share sleeping bags and provisions, and the next day took three of our group into their boats to help us get to the early take out at Echo Park. They helped us contact our car shuttling service to get our cars moved to Echo Park so we could take off early. They helped us scout the larger rapids that we weren't as familiar with in this high water. They shared their lunch, their water, and helping hands. Without their help, I'm literally not sure what we would have done. It's a rule of the river that you help other boaters in need, and they truly, truly went above and beyond. PLEASE go raft with them. They will keep you safe, well fed, and their guides have a terrific attitude to boot. read more

We really had a phenomenal rafting day trip down the green river through Split Mountain Canyon. We've been on a family road trip, myself, husband, and our two kids ages 9 and 6 from Idaho to Colorado and back. This was absolutely the highlight of our trip! From start to finish the day was magical, getting to see petroglyphs up close and learn about them, rafting through the most beautiful canyon with absolutely stunning rock formations, seeing big horn sheep on the side of the river, having a delightful lunch, learning about the cave where Butch Cassidy and his posse used to hide out in. We even saw a fossil in the canyon wall! Dillon, our guide, was so knowledgeable about everything and really made our day! He even brought a water blaster so the kids could have a water fight with dad. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience! read more

This was our second OARS trip and first on the Yampa. The guides, Travis, Julia, Shawn, Mate', and Allyssa were great. They were knowledgeable, kept safety as a priority, and fun. The Yampa has stunning views and enough rapids to keep it interesting. If you want rapid after rapid, this is not the trip, but if you want wildlife, geology, hiking, rapids and history this is. If you can't do a Grand Canyon commitment, the Yampa is for you. OARS is a top notch company. You will be setting up your own tent, but that also means you get to select your site. The only improvements I could request, is perhaps a couple shade sails over the chair circle (we will bring our own next trip) and better rotation of beverages in the cooler. We brought our own and it didn't always make it into the cooler but I recognize the guides did their best with the kids along, it was tough to keep up. We will be back for sure! read more

We had a wonderful day on the river! We went with our daughter and her BF, and the process and guides were great! The river was running high but that made the rapids even more exciting! The lunch stop was perfect and OARS honored our special requests (and keeping the cheese separate from the meat for us vegetarians was huge) and the true concept of leave no trace meant a lot as well. The May 20, 2019 4-day Yampa-Green River Dinosaur Nat'l Monument trip was exciting and rewarding. Trip lead Lindsey and other guide team members-Lindsey, John, Mike, Garth, Tony, and Doug we're expert river guides, and very well-versed in river lore, canyon geology, and ancient and modern human history. They took the time to make sure we were properly dressed and equipped for the rainy and windy conditions and consistently stressed safety and comfort of passengers. The food was best quality and plentiful. The scenery through the canyons was astounding, campsites were beautiful, and the side hikes were a nice break from the river. The variety of boats - oar boats, paddle boat, and inflatable kayaks, which I especially enjoyed through the many rapids, made it a good experience for everyone.
