We camped most of the time but when it rained twice we easily turned Dazza's backseat area into our bed for the night. (Pro tip: the full size mattress in the van fit perfectly into a two person tent which made for a comfy nights sleep) The amenities provided in the van were perfect (especially the sink, prep area and small table) for car camping plus and the van was a newer one and in great condition. It truly is the sweet spot between a tent and RV. We didn't need to bring a bunch of cooking and tent supplies on the plane but we were still able to camp which was important for us. We like to tent camp and thought an RV would be too constricting for exploring. The set up inside the van was near perfect. We didn't actually use the sink but everything else was perfect down to the window drapes, hooks, charging setup and comfortable bed. Having the refrigerator was key. No need to hunt for ice everyday! We made other campervan users jealous everywhere we went. Comparing our van setup with others confirmed we made the right choice. Yes it's a little pricey but very competitive. We felt we got great value for what we paid. I encourage folks to get the basic insurance package too. It provided peace of mind and paid for a rock chip in the windshield. The rental process was easy and went smoothly and the owners/employees were helpful and friendly. We're pretty hooked on the #vanlife and hope to do it again.

The RV was very unstable and unsafe driving on the highway with. It was extremely noisy to drive the RV. There was a broken mudflap that was a safety hazard. The fan in the bathroom did not work. They only offered to reimburse us for one night out of the total that we could use. The people helping us were very rude and inconsiderate. A horrible, expensive snd stressful experience.

My experience with Basecamper mirrors was not a good one…read more In particular: 1) After taking delivery of the van and starting our trip, the rooftop tent ripped off the top of the van while driving down I-15 at 80MPH. After pulling over and calling the owner, Matt, he pointed me to an item in the list of things he had supposedly trained me on, marked in the document as "need to know." 2) I never received any instruction to drive the van at 65MPH, which is significantly under the speed limit. I did receive training on how to set up and take down the tent, but nothing else regarding speed. That is indicated in the section I initialed, however I never received any verbal training or instruction to drive that slowly. I have driven with multiple roof racks, ski racks, etc. and have never been aware of a speed limit restriction, certainly not one that is 10-15MPH under the legal speed limit. Matt did tell me that he was "tired" from having to drive to Capitol Reef the previous day to deal with another vehicle issue related to his fleet. 3) From the damage, it appears that the right rail failed, in particular the right front attachment to the top of the van, a Yakima roof rail. It appears to have completely torn off from the van, causing the rail to snap and the tent to fly off. In addition, it seems that the tent was in no way secured to the two rails perpendicular to the Yakima bars, as there were no bolts of any kind attaching the tent to those rails. If those bolts were present, the roof rail would have never snapped even if the Yakima attachment failed. . 4) The above statements indicate to me that the tent was not attached to the roof of the van in the recommended way. Based on my inspection of the other vans in the Basecamper fleet and others I saw while on our trip, as well as my own experience, the tents are attached directly to the roof rails (Yakimas) via the standard connections you see on a Thule or other roof rack. I have never seen an attachment set up like the one on this van with two additional perpendicular rails that are not secured to the tent. 5) Based on 4), it seems that the tent was attached in some sort of way to accommodate the vent, which I believe is not consistent with how it was supposed to be installed. Matt insisted it was industry standard, but as I stated I've seen and used multiple rooftop racks and attachments and there is never a set of wood blocks involved. 5) Additionally, there were other issues with this van, it overheated while idling for less than 10 minutes and I had to put a quart of oil in after the engine started knocking. Additionally, a cabinet door came off the hinges and there were issues attaching propane canisters to the tube connecting them to the camping stove. I only point these out as they indicate a pattern of issues with the van that support the statements made above. In summary, I don't think the issue was a result of my driving at a legal speed, it seems more an issue with the tent not being installed properly. Yakima roof bars should never fail if installed properly, and given how the tent was installed it's a pretty logical conclusion that those had issues as well. This was not only an inconvenience for our trip, but a very dangerous situation if the tent had hit someone's car on the highway when it flew off. In my dealings after the fact with Matt, he has come across as very defensive and argumentative. Given the gravity of the potential consequences, I would think every effort would be made to ensure that each requirement that the driver needs to know is explicitly called out and delivered to the driver so that there is no chance for something like this to happen. The attitude I've been getting in my dealings with Matt does not give me any confidence that they are committed to doing everything possible to ensure a safe trip for their customers. I don't think the van I rented (Tan Campervan) is suitable for customer rentals.

Before booking a van or RV I did endless research and I will save you the time. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO RENT A RECREATIONAL VEICHLE out of Salt Lake City, BOOK with these guys. The Van. Approx 880$ Booked the tree-line van for the extra space as we had a significant amount of gear, plus you'll likely be transporting firewood at some point. This was a good choice for us given our gear situation. Clean van, and most importantly mechanically sound, no problems at all, no speaks, no rattles, no freakin worries! This thing was easy to drive, easy to see in the mirrors, and not too big where I couldn't take it wherever I wanted. It was surprisingly good on gas(I babied it and only three fill ups for all that mileage) Set up well, the netting in the back is like genius, the cabinets/cooler easily held food for six days and all our beverages. I mean I was making eggs every morning, full bbqs for dinner. you can really take and cook whatever with the setup they provide. setting up the outdoor camp stove on the table(also provided by basecamper) wherever, whenever, in some of the most beautiful locations in the united states is not enough to warrant the price mark but, was some of the most enjoyable parts of the trip. Its a hotel on wheels with literally everything you actually need to spend sometime off grid already included. The bed was comfortable, plenty of blankets/pillows I brought sleeping bags knowing it would be in the 20s at night and never touched them. used the heater one time in Teton for about fifteen minutes, it warmed the van enough for the entire night. issues: Had a little issue starting the heater, but I made a phone call to them and figured it out in ten minutes. I broke the French press, I replaced it before returning the van, and they were understanding and did not charge me No other issues. Trip: We drove from basecamper vans to Jackson hole, did the entirety of Yellowstone park, back through Jackson and to salt lake. We drove whenever, went looking for wolves every night/morning. You could not drive this van more than I did in 5 days. grand total I was over mileage by 594miles I paid an extra 200$ and honestly I would have paid more. It was a flawless trip. I've done Moab in a rental car for the same time, in the end the extra few hundred you spend for a van like this pays for itself, everything you need is there and if you are like us and trying to see Yellowstone in a short period of time, this is the way. thank you basecamper vans. trip was glorious and you had a big part in that. The whole team at Kellville were partners to us from our first exchange where we asked if they even rented during the cold winter months, because some outfits are not as equipped to do so. After we landed on the right equipment (a MB Winnebago Revel!) my partner and I took our dog to SLC and set out from there. This van was so amazing!! Basically brand new. Easy to drive in the city or off-road. High clearance, 4x4 and fully capable off grid. Perfect for winter camping. The diesel fuel efficiency (especially in running the heating system at night/while camping ) was tops. The battery system was a piece of cake, never ran out of juice. Having a cassette toilet and shower were great, too. The Kellville team stocked us with everything we needed for the trip, from fresh and comfortable bedding and towels, to all the kitchen supplies and dishes we would ever need. While you are on your trip, you stay in touch with the owners and team leads via text. If you have any questions about how something works (no matter how simple), just text them and they will get back to you immediately. The value overall -- never mind the service we got from John, Teisa and Lance -- was phenomenal. We would do this all over again, and likely will early next fall -- perhaps a northern excursion to the Tetons/Yellowstone/Glacier. If you are looking to unplug and reset, this is the way to go. Decided to try something new and take the annual Thanksgiving family trip to Las Vegas in an RV…read more Since I had never rented an RV I asked the company representative to guide me in the right direction on a rental for a family of 6. When I arrived to pickup, the RV only had 4 seat belts. (Their website layout clearly shows 6 seat belts) Since I was traveling with 3 adults and 3 children, this was not only a unsafe option but an illegal one. Asked if I could upgrade to a bigger unit with additional seat belts, told they had inventory but this wasn't an option because it takes 24 hours to insure the RV. Left with no option but to disappoint my kids by cancelling our fun family RV trip and drive in two cars instead. Utah RV would not return neither calls or emails to discuss the return of my $500 deposit. I would not recommend this business.
