We were in our own raft but hung out before and after with the other families that booked at the same time as us. This…read moreorganization has top-notch staff in the office and warehouse, to the van drivers, to the guides (Larkin, Rocky, Emma, Travis, Sherpa). Our experience was amazing - an incredible river and geology, sandy beach campsites, delicious and plentiful freshly prepared food, interesting and skilled guides navigating the river and its rapids, two side hikes to unique locations... We spent time in the oar rafts and in the inflatable kayak "duckies" on the river, and spent time at camp swimming, talking, eating. playing bocce and volleyball, and stargazing under a new moon with another guide (Tom) who brought a telescope and told us stories of the constellations as he showed us how to find them and brought up other unique views on the telescope. Of course, this is an off-the-grid experience so there were no distractions from cell phones (no signal), we slept in tents, and we all had to use a box toilet to be packed out by the guides each morning as we got back in the rafts. Maybe that's not something everybody's comfortable with, but it's an amazing trip in an awe-inspiring location.

I figured it wasn't meant to be. But then we took a drive to Heber, and I saw a big sign for High Country Adventure. Looked up their site, called to see what our options were. No problem! Book on the site! So we did. It was great. Checkin went fine. Getting life jackets went smooth. Loading on the bus and getting up to the drop off point was a breeze. Waited for our raft and guide to hail us, then we loaded up and headed down River. Nice and relaxing ride down. After the fact, I looked up reviews. I can imagine any of the poor reviews happening since all the staff seem young. Luckily for us, everyone was fine the day we went. (I've been to plenty of other places in the area that have terrible customer service from high school/young peeps, lol!) Our guide was fantastic. The rest of our group was with another guide that they raved about. I've floated the River years before when we rented tubes from BYU. It was such a pain to haul them to the river, have two people drive a car down river, and then everyone load up and drive up river. High Country Adventure makes it super easy and convenient to get to and on the River. Glad we found them! We've already recommended them to friends, and will be back!

We booked a horse drawn sleigh ride for a new Christmas experience…read more It was fabulous. They took us on a 30 minute horse drawn sleigh ride through a light show at Jordanelle State Park. I had to book really early they book up fast and it was a nice but not too cold night. They also do sleigh rides for the Ice Castles at Midway. Our horses names were Lock and load beautiful Perchons. So if you want to do something different book now for next Christmas you won't regret it.

If you have the opportunity to book a trip with CRATE, don't hesitate! Pulling off these trips requires intense knowledge, skill, and coordination, and in all of these ways, CRATE delivered. Good equipment, hearty, plentiful food (and snacks!) and a crew who thoroughly understood the historical, natural, and geological aspects of where we were. This interpretation, intertwined with great river stories, really brought the Canyon to life.

The boatsmen, Walker and Abel, and their capable assistants Pheobe and Matt, guided us with consummate expertise through the many thrilling rapids and on daily hikes of varying lengths, and their knowledge of the local history, geology, archaeology, flora, and fauna, freely shared with us all, was admirable. The food was delicious and plentiful - even for this hardcore vegetarian - and CRATE seamlessly provided for all the logistics, including the rafting and hiking, our helicopter transport from the depths of the canyon, and the flight back toward Las Vegas on smaller prop planes. All in all, CRATE provided an extraordinary experience through a truly extraordinary landscape. A few caveats: this trip does require some physical exertion, as one was expected to help pack and unpack the rafts, as well as set up one's camps (which, in fact, was a great part of the fun and group-experience). Having said that, one of our trip members suffered some unexpected moderate physical limitations throughout the trip, and the crew capably and compassionately assisted him and guided him, without detracting their attentions from the rest of the group. Also, some of the hikes were more rigorous and offered more exposure than necessarily advertised by the crew; however, it was easy enough to avoid any hikes, or portions of hikes, that one felt was beyond one's capacity. All in all, one of the most memorable, awe-inspiring, and eye- and mind-opening trips I've done in my seven decades!
