Oak Tree Mountain feels like something straight out of a Hallmark movie beautiful, peaceful, and full of charm. Surrounded by nature, with fresh mountain air and birds singing, it's the kind of place that makes you slow down and enjoy the outdoors. We visited in December, so it wasn't peak season and not everything was open, but we still had a great time. Even with fewer attractions available, it was fun just being there walking around, taking in the scenery, and enjoying the quiet, outdoorsy atmosphere. It's a lovely place to visit, especially if you appreciate nature and simple pleasures. My family and friends' time while visiting Oak Tree Mountain was a fun and memorable experience. We had breakfast, shopped, toured the surrounding area, and basically hiked while taking tons of group and selfie photos. More importantly, we laughed and had a great time. When we arrived early in the morning, the temperature was 35 degrees and overcast. If you plan to visit here anytime soon, BRING a jacket as you WILL feel the chill the second you open your car door. It was pretty chilly, but it felt GREAT as the air was crisp and fresh. I read the many negative Yelp reviews regarding an additional fee to visit the upper area. Thank goodness they were not charging during our visit, as we would have done exactly what many other visitors did before us and left. The small shops were lovely to visit, as all the items sold are handmade and, surprisingly, very affordable. One shop was offering 50% off EVERYTHING, so my family and friends definitely took advantage of the savings. This is a fun place to visit and to get away from it all for a few hours, as long as they do not charge visitors any additional fees, including parking, which, during our visit, was free. I have been coming up to the area for over 10 years. I am a Michigan native so I always want to get cider and donuts this time of year and see the autumn leaves to make me feel a little less homesick. In the past I always had a great time here... wonderful bbq, live music, and beer. Today I had to pay $10 to park followed by being told that we needed to pay $15 to get in the area where we could buy the bbq. We asked to talk to someone since we only wanted to get bbq, not do any of the kid activities that are now included in the ticket price. I didn't come to pet animals, get my face painted or throw axes. Charging to enter an area to buy food seems criminal. The WORST part of this story is that the BBQ is not the same as it was in the past. There used to be a man out smoking the meats... you could see the food being grilled. These folks didn't have anything on a grill... no smells and they didn't open until 12:30. I waited and waited and ordered over $60 of food that I ended up throwing away. It was terrible. The ribs and brisket had NO seasoning and was very tough and dry. Please look at these pictures and do not waste your money. This place has become way too commercial. If you don't have children why would you need to pay $15 for an area to do kid events. They are trying to monetize every thing and the quality of what they did right before is suffering. What happened to this place? Hadn't been here since before the COVID ridiculousness. Only about 5 shops selling novelty items. Nothing up the hill was open. No music, no food shacks, no museum, everything was trashy and unkempt, the 'petting zoo' had 5 animals and $5 person, and the candy shop was 'meh' and its ambiance was dark. The burgers at Apple Annie's were good though, but a tad expensive. I could saved $20-$30 at Chili's with their burger deals and free tortilla chips. This place is a shadow of its former self. It seems the current owner needs to get his head outta his yin yang. This place is the epitome of mismanagement and it has great potential. I feel bad for the employees. The bright spot was we were treated well by our waitress. Though, I'll be heading to Wilshires Shed Cafe & Shop farther down the road from now on and will be skipping Oak Tree Mountain altogether. We've been coming to Oak Tree a mountain area for years and have enjoyed it as a family. Oak Tree Mountain has recently fenced in the area above Apple Annie's in order to avoid vandalism, according to their website. It's $10 to park even in the dirt lot across the street although they did validate that if you paid to enter the top area. It is now $10 per kid and $15 per adult to enter the area above that. For our family of 5 it cost $60. On a Sunday this gave us access to a small petting zoo area, a playground, axe throwing and some bubbles. There were two girls out there face painting, though I didn't see anyone use them. There were no balloon animals on that day. The mining for gold was $10 extra per kid for the bag of rocks. There are several open areas with picnic tables, but the food was very expensive. Almost $13 just for a plain hot dog and chips. The bbq place was upwards of $25 per plate. Next time we will probably just pay for the mountain slide, eat lunch at the tables outside there, or eat at Apple Annie's and definitely grab a pie and visit Pop and drops. I don't think the fenced in area is worth the money for families at this time, although they are saying there will be some additional attractions added next year. read more

Oh My Gosh! My family has been coming here after apple picking for over 15 years. This is the first year we had to pay to enter the section where the BBQ and live music is. $20 per adult. $15 for kids 3 and up. Once entering the gate, you still need t pay for EVERYTHING! It was extremely empty compared to last year and years past, of course. When I asked what happened, they just said, "New owners". Well done "new owners" I know it means absolutely nothing to you, but you successfully broke a 20 year family tradition. Shame on you and your greed. On a positive note, you have also successfully boosted the business of your competitors. Walked over from Apple Annie's to check out the activities at Oak Tree mountain. We came on a weekday so no one was around and we had the place to ourselves. We did the axe throwing and went in to pet the farm animals. I was expecting a little more and I'm sure it's more lively on the weekends, but after reading the reviews it's interesting to find out that this once was an open area for people to enjoy. read more

Sooooo heartbroken. Since I've moved out here 9 years ago and visited this place I fell in love with everything and the ppl all in this mountain. To be able to go up there and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city was always refreshing and a reset for us. And since our grandson's been able to walk we have been taking him here. He says can we go where the big horse is and then when the slide came he said can we go where the slide is. And now when my grown kids come to visit from LA they look forward to coming up here. Well we're had our grandson this weekend and he said he wanted to go where the slide was and take his remote control and play up where the playground is. Heck yeah let's go. We hadn't been in a few months. We were walking up the hill and we seen a gate, at first I thought it was for a private party cuz it was Saturday. Oh oh oh no it wasn't. They are charging now to visit the upper half of the hill. I was shocked at the prices. Are you crazy??? So you have to pay to go to the upper side of the hill and still pay for the stuff inside lol. I stood there thinking this is a joke. We usually go to that part of the hill for the petting zoo ( that has way less animals than they did 6 years ago) and for the playground and enjoy some live music. I was planning to finally try some BBQ but from the reviews I'm glad I didn't. But also just to get something to eat from a place I there you need to pay admission ridiculous. It provided a festive atmosphere, a petting zoo (in various states of quality over the years), some live music, and much needed food and beverage opportunities. This year my friends and I arrived to find a literal paywall. An imposing metal barrier stopping you from ascending into the upper half of the park. Unless everyone in your party shells out $10-$15, None Shall Pass. The idea of having to spend money so as have permission to spend additional money in a different area of the park did not achieve its intended effect on my group. Although there's much style to Oak Tree Mountain, there doesn't seem to be much substance. My husband and I have been visiting Oak Glen during apple picking season for the past couple years now, and always passed by this place which from the outside looking in, appears quite impressive with its scenic, fourteen acres of attractions. This year, we decided to make this our first stop. The best part about Oak Tree Mountain would be its Twisted Oak BBQ. It's a small operation but given that most visitors are there for the restaurant, Apple Annie's, Twisted Oak proved to be a good alternative. The half-rack ribs combo and brisket sandwich we got were well-cooked and reasonably priced. While I was curious about the hype surrounding Apple Annie's, the long line was enough to put us off. We also found the bar, Common Ground, to be a decent spot to grab a drink. I tried their Apple Mojito which was tasty and refreshing. However, what brings my rating down is its sad petting zoo, if you could even call it that. They charge for admission here at $5 per person and an additional $2 for feed, which wouldn't be a problem if: 1. There were actually any animals to feed. Instead, once we walked into the enclosure, we found there were two sitting goats, both of which looked to be full, neither of which wanted to eat any feed. The rest of the animals were fenced off and bunched up together in another small enclosure so that everyone could merely gaze upon them from a distance. I actually felt kind of bad for all the deer and pigs inside. Visitors were trying to stick their hands through the fence to feed them, but again, none were interested. No animals inside the petting zoo were pet or fed while we were there and yet, Oak Tree Mountain thinks it's okay to charge for this experience. Don't waste your money. 2. Unprofessional service. The bored teenage worker working at the petting zoo made it so obvious he didn't want to be there. When we went up to inquire about admission, he didn't even make eye contact or greet us. We had to probe him for information on admission cost and how to pay, because otherwise, he would've continued to sit there avoiding eye contact and looking apathetic. I know it's not personal but there should be a basic level of customer service training. Compared to other apple orchards we've visited, Oak Tree Mountain nickels and dimes you, even with parking. I'm glad we checked it out this one time but I'm also glad to learn that we didn't miss out on much over the past years either. read more

Overpriced! We spend $10 per child, $15 for my teenager and $15 for my husband and for myself. The children enjoyed the petting zoo, balloon making, playground and face painting. There was nothing to do for my 14-year-old. They were excited to fish the trout pond, but it was closed. They charged extra for panning gems, and the axe throwing were not real axes (as advertised on the website). Honestly, I was expecting more for the price. Money-grubbing owners! So disappointed to learn that Oak Tree Mountain now charges a whopping $20 a person to walk through the upper portion of their site. I have visited for years after apple picking at one of the local farms, and enjoyed the opportunity to eat lunch at the BBQ place and meander through the walkways, stopping to try some axe throwing or listen to the live band. I will now be skipping this place whenever I visit. Such a joke to charge people an entrance fee to eat at one of the upper restaurants. My family and I love Oak Tree Mountain for a quick day trip. The parking lot is always crowded, but there are two overfill lots so as long as you aren't too greedy it's not a problem. It's a great place for everyone to get fresh air. There's a cute playground, pretty photo-op places and cute signs everywhere. Kids love doing the axe throw, mining for pretty gems, petting animals and tubing down the big slide. Many restaurants and shops that sell cute knick knacks. Also a wonderful candy shop. There is an area with small farmers market esque shops and the one that sells honey is our favorite. Also a booth to buy apple cider and apple donuts. Absolutely delicious. The place is very gimmicky and you may spend a pretty penny to do all activities, but it's worth it imo. read more

During our Oak Glen adventure, we stumbled upon this place. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plenty of parking but it can get busy based on special events (Halloween, Apple Butter fest, etc). Feels: It's great! We went during the Apple Butter Festival and during FIFA so there was a mix audience. It was nice seeing the art and designs they had from clothing to decor. The food looked pretty delicious but we were already full from the other local shops. The activities looked pretty fun from the the big slide, axe throwing, and photo ops. Food: I was already full but there are a few good restaurant choices from a brewery to a cafe with everything about apples. Customer Service: Friendly and helpful people helped make this experience enjoyable. TL;DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. This is not Disneyland but it's the local amusement park. This place is great! Great fun, food, staff & service, & ambiance. They had live music & vendors posted up. I got these wood art things for my parents it's great! I also stopped by they're bakery, restaurant (apple Annie's), & candy shop. We forgot to stop by the milkshake & ice cream parlor after having lunch. But food was great, husband and daughter went on the sled slide, played at the play ground a bit. They also got an animal tour thing, with a few peacocks literally just walking around you, they have axe throwing, and there are flyers posted everywhere talking about upcoming activities, events, etc. all around, this place is great just to get up around nature & have a bit of fun! read more

It did very crowded but I do feel it was what I was looking for. A few things to do and not too many crowds until later in the day around 12:00. I would say get there early. As much as I wanted to LOVE this place, there were quite a few things that were less than lovely. It would be amazing if they took more pride in maintenance of their structures and honesty in their products. As horrendous as the parking was, we found spots. The farthest parking lot up the hill had quite a few - and it was free. I'm guessing all the people parking in the street couldn't figure out how to get through the parking to get to those spots because they were wound deep in their parking maze. After parking we saw a car try to come in the exit...you know the ones - with the SPIKES. The signage for it was faded, but there was a sign there...beware where you enter. Part of why we chose this spot for our Oak Glen outing was we went wanting to get the SHAVE ICE they promote on their website (and on their signage at the booth). Since our trip to Hawaii we've been on the look-out for an authentic SHAVE ice and after much searching I thought we'd found it with Angry Shave Ice... and alas, all hopes were dashed. It was just a snow cone. Despite all the advertising of it NOT being a snow cone, even the person handing it to us said "cherry SNOW CONE!" Crushed, not shave, ice, just like my heart at the beyond-disappointing discovery. The petting zoo has a booth to pay before you can enter to see what the "zoo" looks like. It's free for kids, but $5/ adults. We paid, but the adults didn't go in. First, their sign pointed left and the entrance was right (minor, but annoying), then there were 5 animals to pet (probably like 20 total in their bigger enclosure, including deer, but they were behind fences), and all the animals didn't want the feed (which you would have bought for $2 prior to entering and seeing them not eat). When it was time to use the bathrooms, the ladies one at the end by the last parking lot had 4 stalls: one didn't flush at all, the other three were difficult to flush, one of which had not toilet paper and didn't lock, and another that "locked" until the structure vibrated with movement and then the locking mechanism slid wide open. The kids enjoyed the playground structure. The netting around it looked like an after thought. A couple of the letters for its sign "PLAY TREE" were torn off. It is build over concrete with thin padding squares laid over. I'm glad they secured it with netting as those thin pads looked useless. They have some fun fair-type activities, like "panning" for gold (no pans, more of grates), games, huge slide (think huge water slide without any cushion if you fall off your blow-up donut), axe throwing (I love the name "Axe Therapy") One vendor was Holy Honey in a small building and their honey was good - unadulterated. The creamy chai tastes like Christmas. They give samples. Lots of fun and a couple strange vendors. The hippy bags were all covered with 'shrooms. Two vendors had fun gag-toys like gum that shocks, handcuffs, bow/arrows, etc. that the littles (and nostalgic adults) enjoyed. One booth had beautiful hippy/cowboy clothing/accessories. There was live music that sounded great! We didn't eat dinner there as we have dairy/gluten issues and most spots only had dairy/gluten. Despite the huge shave ice debacle and restroom issues, I think we all enjoyed ourselves. We went up to pick apples and found this was not where that was done, but there's always next time and the kid who wanted to pick the apples seemed to forget all about that when we got there. read more

What a cool place! We came on a weekday, so it was pretty empty, but I could imagine the bustle when it is busy. None of the activities were manned, but they were all accessible. For example, you could walk through the bird 'sanctuary' where various parrots and parakeets are roosting outside. You can walk inside by walking through two layers of netting. There are 3 or so peacocks walking around (didn't see any boundaries for them I could see, so they must be trained). There is also a petting zoo that where you can see and pet various farm animals. There are playground equipment to get the kids to blow off steam. And there are nice areas where a family could take autumn themed pictures. There are some retail stores directly in front of the parking lot. One of the biggest was Pops/Drops where they handmake caramel apples, and sell various confectionary and candy. I frequently visit oak tree mountain during the week which tends to be slower and more peaceful to enjoy than the busy weekends. I came to try the axe throwing and check out the petting zoo. It was so much fun ! Worth checking out , you will find piglets , llamas , deer and other wildlife. There are one of a kind local shops in the village and my favorite the Holy Honey store with the best local honey. The Apple Annie restaurant is usually busy and somewhat expensive and the staff is just a bit overwhelmed at times. The bakery is the best place for pies. This is a very family friendly stop! I highly recommend checking this location out whether you are a local or tourist. Plenty of free parking areas around the village and businesses. Be prepared to drive through unpaved roads or rough patches. During winter you can catch some snow. Also during the hot summer oak glen offers a cooler climate than most of the surrounding cities due to is forest surroundings. Also let me mention the village partakes in seasonal events throughout the year that are worth checking out! Some of my Best photos and memories were made here. Been coming here for years, like years and years 15+ and always knew that while there isn't a lot to do here, it's nice to get away from the normal shops and city. Seeing the change that Oak Tree Mountian has gone through over the last couple years has gone from being a welcome sight with some new additions, attractions and eateries to sadness our last visit on 9/27. Starting 9/27 there is a new fence/checkpoint that has been installed less than halfway up the main walkway that you now have to pay to get past. I think it was 6 "photo op" locations, a couple restaurants/food vendors, a petting zoo, axe throwing, a playground, nature trail, rock mining, fishing ponds, bird aviary and unopened/unbuilt butterfly enclosure. It seems the powers that be are trying, unsuccessfully, to mirror what the Live Oak pumpkin patch has done to monetize everything that people could enjoy. The wristband should say sucker for paying the $20 entry price for the low level of upkeep that you now pay to see. 3 fishing ponds that are not filled, have no fish, and cannot actually fish out of. Food locations that were priced closer to a street fair that you cannot get to without paying an entry fee. Axe throwing that uses plastic everything and rock mining that you have to pay additional for to get a bag of rocks, not a problem but 1 price for it at the gate of $3 and another price of $10 at the 'Pops' building up by it. Maybe it will sustain the cost with people thinking it's got more to enjoy, at least 1 time like we did. Unfortunately knowing what is there and the cost associated with it just turned Oak Tree Mountain into a hard pass for us. read more

We've gone apple picking a few times and have always stopped by here on our way home to relax and enjoy some lunch a drink and some fun activities (that we were willing to pay extra for). Today we came and brought some first time family members excited to show them the area, but when we arrived we realized they have now closed the upper area and made it "paid admission" this area includes the BBQ and hot dog eatery, ax throwing activities, petting zoo and playground, along with the only decent bathroom (porta-potties otherwise if you don't eat at the restaurant) I can see trying to make and extra buck but honestly it turned us off. We got there, realized the changed purchased some Apple turnovers and left. Just doesn't seem worth to pay $70 (for a family of 4) to go into an area that we won't do all their activities because they aren't age appropriate for our kids. Small petting zoo with a few piggies, goats, and fawns. Can feed them if you purchase it from the gate right in front. Fun and long slide for kids to have some adrenaline rush through their blood! Axe throwing, rock river filtering (not sure what you call it), live music while you eat, spacious patio to dine with easy access food spots, and a small train pulled by a tractor for little ones to enjoy. Beware of the petting zoo at this location. My husband and I were visiting Oak Glen with my daughter and her two children. After entering the petting zoo, my daughter was butted hard in the back by a male deer with antlers. I hate to think what would've happened if this particular deer had done this to one of my grandchildren. LOVED IT!! I had so, so much fun. Great way to spend a Saturday! Honestly, I thought the idea of going here was just okay until I heard it was where the viral piglet saving goat video was filmed for the show, "Nathan for You". I really liked that show, so that was definitely a convincing factor. Driving through some sparse farm/ranch areas, we steadily made our way through the winding roads to Oak Tree Mountain. Since it was Oaktoberfest (NO IDEA that this was even going on) parking looked like it was getting packed, so we did the free street parking and walked our way up. The hill was not too steep and there's so much along the way to look at (a local craft swap meet, restaurants, local farm/harvest/honey stores, etc). Entry is COMPLETELY FREE. Quite unheard of for many of the events that I'm accustomed to in the 626/LA/OC area. The entire venue looked relatively new/revamped. Super clean and modern. There's hashtags, puns, and inspirational quotes everywhere that you look! Just FYI the location is also on an incline going up towards the back, so be wary of this if you have bad knees/ankles, young children/elderly/wheelchair using individuals in your party. It's not super steep but heading back and forth can get tiring! Other than that, there's lots of shade from the trees surrounding, lots of places to sit, and lots of things to do! Oaktoberfest had live music, beer in those Oktoberfest-esque large mugs, and other fun activities. Big crowd so the line to Apple Annies' and the bakery to get their mile high apple pies were super long, so we opted out of that. Instead we got some ice cream at their sweets shop near the front. $9 for two huge bigger than your fist sized scoops. It was Thrifty ice cream, but since the Rite Aid closed near me, this was welcomed, especially since the day was so hot. The shop also had other sweets, chocolate goodies, taffy, and glass bottled sodas. Other activities that cost a nominal fee included the ax throwing, the train rides, and the petting zoo. Of course we had to go to the petting zoo. Costs about $5 per person. At the petting zoo, you can see some of their parrots at the front, some chickens, peacock, turkey, geese, and ducks in their enclosures. Near the actual petting zoo you can see some deer. At the actual petting zoo there are some goats, small and some medium sized ones, and a BUNCH OF PIGGIES, super small ones and smaller ones. THEY WERE SO CUTE. The pigs don't mind being petted and it was so cute seeing their tails being wagged as they dig around. At one point one of goats started munching on my dress, I foolishly thought that it was only sucking on it, but no it was actually EATING it and tore right through. So be careful ! Petting zoo pets are young and not friendly lol! You pay and can pet two goats. We got left over feed for free so that made the experience worth it. We thought about going down the slide next to it but maybe another time. Glad we were able to find parking and also visit the earth day fair across the street as well. read more

I love coming up here! I found out first because of their apple orchards and farms but they are open year-round. There are plenty of things to look at and to walk through. So many different farms, each one offering its specialty. Perfect for a quick getaway or just for some fun family time. There are plenty of areas for kids to run around, and parents to relax and enjoy the scenery. There are plenty of places to get food and souvenirs too! They've been sprucing up the village area too. So that's a plus! read more

We came last year and today- and everything was closed! The only places open were the restaurant, the chocolate store, and the 2 little clothing store "shacks". That's it! You guys are so deceiving when you post vids on your Ig and online that you're open- the cider donut store that was so eager to try was closed again! the rides etc. Just awful to drive over an hour and be disappointed again. I've been visiting Oak Tree Mountain for 30 years and haven't been in about 5 and was looking forward to a overdue visit. Utterly disappointed in the changes and lack of. Gone are the days when the cowboys did a shoot out, the vendors sold incredible treats and the shops were magnificently decorated for the holidays. There is nothing left but overpriced cheap bulk items for resale and a line do 100 people waiting to get into the bakery. Ended up driving to Yucaipa to Fat Greek for lunch. read more

An update has been long overdue. After receiving an email response from Mike Lyol we decided to make another trip to Oak tree mountain. The experience that we had on a Saturday compared to what we had when we made our visit during the week was night and day. The atmosphere felt magical. The whole place was buzzing with happy families, eclectic shops and incredible smells from the different food venues and autumn in general. Coincidently it was Oaktoberfest the weekend that we went. Our little girl was able to ride the train, enter the petting zoo and to give love to as many animals as her heart's content, we had a family photo session done, poked into every single one of those shops, enjoy to our colossal beers and I was even able to participate in the stein holding contest as the only female contestant. Many memories were created and I am forever thankful that Mike reached out to me on Yelp so that I didn't miss out on all of these incredible experiences with my family. Thank Mike! read more

Oak Tree Mountain (previously known as Oak Tree Village) is a 14-acre theme village located in Oak Glen & is 80 miles away from downtown LA. The village becomes a popular destination during the apple picking season and I stopped by the village after our party had finished activities at Los Rios Rancho. The village is also known as "the best kept secret of the Inland Empire." [Parking]: Free street parking, but I had to make a U-turn and parked across from Law's Cider Mill Oak Glen (38392 Oak Glen Rd, Yucaipa, CA 92399). Alternative option includes paid parking lots (saw a sign saying $5) & you may want to consider this option as the 1st weekend of October is typically the busiest time as few local apple farms open their doors for apple picking & a huge wave of visiting guests is to be expected. [Admission]: Free admission & dog friendly, but some of activities do have a fee. [Attractions]: Oak Tree Mountain is best known for fresh-baked 5 lb mile-high apple pies from Apple Annie's Bakery. The Oak Tree Mountain Slide is a 9-lanes 350+ ft slide that boasts the title of "largest slide in America." The rates are 1 ride = $8.00, 3 rides = $20.00, and 1 hour = $35.00. Common Ground Public House is a bar located right next to the slide as parents were hanging out in the beer garden and watching their kids enjoying the slide. Other activities include Axe Therapy (axe throwing - $5), Play Tree (free playground for kids), Oak Tree Mountain Mining Co (pan for gold and gems - $10). Drop 4 Basketball (Connect Four plus basketball - $5), Cornhole (free), Giant Jenga (free), Giant Connect Four (free), Mountain Express (giving rides from 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays and Sundays - $4), petting zoo ($5), Inspiration Forest (reading random quotes - free). Lastly there are various old-time shops to check out. It is a pretty solid & fun village to stop by if you are planning to come to Oak Glen for the apple picking season (the apple picking season = 1st week of September for few farms and 1st week of October for the rest of farms). Expect a long line for Apple Annie's Bakery, but all other activates require no wait with minimal fees. P.S. - Don't miss out outdoor boutique vendors across from Oak Tree Mountain & I have a feeling they are only there during the apple picking season. read more
