They consulted with me for colors and the estimate time was speedy. We are really enjoying the new look our upper bedroom. The price asked was very reasonable for the amount of work they did. The basement is now ready for my younger daughter to stay in. I am admittedly, a difficult client to please - I do my own research on the best products and practices to make sure I am getting things done right. Often my paying attention to the fine details is a turn off to contractors - who just want to do what they've always done, get paid, and leave. We decided to hire Eric because of his energy & enthusiasm about getting our job done right. He was receptive to researching various products and arriving at the conclusions together with me. He would call his product reps to gain insight on the primer/top-coat systems that would give the best results for various substrates - such as porch floors and aluminum clad windows. I loved that fact that we were a team with a common goal. Eric's pricing is clear and transparent, and I was especially fond of the fact that materials are billed out separately directly from receipts. This ensures that you are always getting the products you pay for, as they have no incentive to purchase inferior products to pad their profit margin. The crew is full of very skilled painters who work hard. They arrive on time, and were always friendly and respectful of our space. Our Victorian home is full of intricate moldings and is 3 stories tall - and all their lines are crisp. There are many established painters who work primarily in the Oak Park area. Where to start...leaving aside the fact that our meeting was apparently blown off and we had to contact Eric to remind him of an appointment made, leaving aside the fact that he showed completely unprepared to do the estimate, leaving aside incredibly poor mask etiquette, I was shocked by the experience we had meeting and considering working with Oak Park Painters. I understand that often people will give out higher estimates to then appear generous when they lower it, but the estimate Eric gave us after viewing our home was incredibly high and not consistent with per room prices he had given in previous calls. Being a savvy consumer I asked for itemization of the estimate to try and figure out if I could cut back in certain areas to stay within my budget and Eric claimed "he doesn't do that, the price is all in." I stated that the price seemed higher than expected (I of course had done some research ahead of time, and was met with the response "oh Oak Park prices are high, you'll see." I told him we would consider his estimate and do our due diligence in seeing other quotes. This led to him dropping the price 40% within 24 hours. This to me seems like someone who charges a premium for clients that he thinks he can take advantage of. We ended up not working with Oak Park Painters, since this experience made him very hard to trust. The estimate we got from another credible painter in the area, ended up being even less than Eric's "discounted" price and was done within one day, whereas Eric said the paint job would have taken 5 to 6 days for his team. I would advise anyone getting an estimate from Eric to definitely compare to others in order to ensure they are being treated fairly. read more

Eric and his crew did a great job of painting my condo before I rented it. We discussed paint colors and what was currently "in" for the Oak Park area. The painters were efficient and quick, cleaned up after themselves and personable. Eric's pricing is reasonable for the quality of work that is performed. He was quick to respond to fix a scratch on my hardwood floor that was made when the stove was moved away from the wall. He is very friendly and easy to work with. I feel you will not be disappointed. Update Jan 2017: Condo going up for sale, having Eric and crew do their paint magic. Unfortunately, tenant for one year smoked and the unit smells. Heavy duty steam cleaning done and entire place must be painted to get rid of odor. Eric did all trim and walls plus ceiling to freshen up the unit. He also opened the windows and brought in a few large fans to get outside air circulating into the unit ... above and beyond. My agent was very happy with the work performed. Very disappointed with the service provided by Oak Park Painters. We called Eric in January with hopes of having him paint our children's toy room in our new home. Our home is an older home and we were very concerned with lead paint exposure to our children and we read that Oak Park Painters was "federal lead paint certified". He assured us he could do the job. We also requested the quote to include a small bathroom. The first three days he sent an employee of his to prime the rooms. This gentleman left our house open and unlocked and would work for a couple of hours then take off for a couple of hours then come back. Eric shared with us his trouble with being a "young boss" and managing his employees. My husband gave very specific instructions as to keeping doors closed and vents taped off as we did not want any paint chips spread through our home as we have an infant. This was not a concern of theirs and we had to deep clean each day as we were so fearful of the possible lead paint exposure to our child from their negligence and indifference. While we were talking with Eric he mentioned that he lives near the Medical District of Chicago, not in Oak Park. I was a bit surprised as his business address is listed in Oak Park and I was very committed to supporting the local Oak Park community and hiring from small business owners within this community. He indicated that his "friend's mom let him use her address for his business" and he let me know how this address gives him a "Google pin" when people search for "oak park painters" and how much this has helped to generate business for him. He also has Michigan plates on his business vehicle which I found odd. The paint job was horrific. He never sanded or smoothed the walls down so it looks like a paint job my children could have completed. It was my understanding that he would "mud" the walls to smooth them over. He did not tape/cover anything before painting and paint is dripped and splattered all over onto various fixtures and the floor. The trim has paint all over it from the lack of taping. I requested the toy room walls to be painted four different colors and we provided the paint. Eric painted the walls all the wrong colors. I walked in during him just getting started and shared my concern with the walls not being painted the colors I requested. He said, "Well it's a little late". I was sad since I had purchased many fixtures, furniture, and decorations that went with walls that were supposed to be painted certain colors. He said he was finished and he provided me with a "final estimate" which was three times the initial quote. I attempted to pay him and he preferred that I wait until he get my house key back from the "other employee". He said he would return later that night. I called him a couple of hours later after inspecting his work and said that it was not to my satisfaction and I requested that he paint the walls in the toy room (the main goal of this project) the colors that I had requested. He said he was upset and told me to "talk to my husband" as if I was not able to have opinions of my own. He then called my husband several times and my husband told him we could talk to him the next day to figure out a plan to remediate the situation as my husband was busy working. Eric then cashed my initial deposit check and put my house key in my mailbox. We never heard from him again. So we paid for work that was awful and my husband had to repaint everything himself. I have notified the BBB. This was an expensive lesson learned for me. read more

After a recent home purchase, my fiancé and I hired Eric to paint our entire home from dark grey to a lighter shade of white. I knew covering up the grey would not be easy, somewhat unpredictable as to how many coats we would need. Eric did a fantastic job estimating the amount of paint.
