Quality of produce varies- now that businesses will be opening up next week, timing was perfect. For myself, I'd choose fresh and unblemished produce. Percentage wise, 70% of the time the items were okay. The remaining items I'd personally would have not chosen the quality of some items I.e., wilted, slimy ends in plastic bag, blemished dings or scratches on items, nicks in skin of produce. For this last order the items were good. Unlike last week's driver, who rang the doorbell, different driver today never sent a final text or notification that produce had arrived. With this heat, lettuce would suffer. Be cautious. My four deliveries were a gift yet I received a message after my 3rd delivery that I owed $50+- unbelievable. Also was told someone put a hold on my delivery and did I want to activate up again. Seemed screwy,and undoubtedly alarming to me. I tried to keep calm and composed so that there wouldn't be a backlash on what was in my final bag. I'm glad someone surprised me with this as a gift. Gave me the chance to experience delivery to my front door. Rocky start but remaining 3 deliveries got better. Super glad I received regular sized tomatoes and head lettuce vs loose leaf for this ending delivery. Live and let learn. Note: you need to be a lover of veggies. My crisp bin still has some unused items from last week's delivery even though I cooked daily and incorporated veggies at least twice daily. We decided to start a farm fresh service, since the farmers markets were closed and we wanted to support the local farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic. My husband signed up for a weekly bag that he would pick up at Ala Moana on Saturday. The items in the bag depend on what is available, so you do not get a choice of what goes in the bag. It is $30 per each bag. There are about five or six items per bag. Bags have included onions, green onions, bok choy, small pineapple, sweet potatoes, small Thai watermelon, grape tomatoes, green beans and lettuce. You better like lettuce since every bag contains lettuce that is about half the bag!! Unfortunately you cannot choose the items in your bag, so you might end up with items that you don't like or want. In general most of the items looked reasonably fresh. The problem with the service is that there is no quality control. In our last bag, they were two onions and both were completely rotten. I can't imagine the person who put them in the bag didn't notice that they were rotten. There is no consistency when it comes to the quality of the produce. Also considering that the bag is pricey for what you get, so you would expect that all the items in the bag were of usable quality. Needless to say after getting some rotten items, we canceled our service. read more

We've been using them for over a year, and enjoy receiving the salad greens, papayas, and bananas, some of our weekly household staples. We've been told that there are times when stores are out of papayas and bananas. So we feel lucky to get these staples. Sometimes we add extra produce or snacks to our order. This week we tried the vegetarian prepared meal. These chefs must have failed out of cooking school. Awful! The food reminded me of when some of my older relatives with dementia would cook with too much garlic.? Don't buy if you don't like lots of HOT spice and garlic! Don't buy the chocolate cake. This service is great until it isn't. We've been receiving boxes for months. Last week, no box arrived. I've tried calling, texting, messaging through the website, and emailing. No reply. Nothing. We'll see what happens, but I'm pretty disappointed right now. We try hard to support local farmers, but this seems like some very poor customer service. Update: while the issue above was never resolved, I have not had an issue since. I really do like this service and think supporting local farmers is hugely important. So I edited my previous three star review to a four star. I wish they'd handled the above situation better, or at all. Used the service once, and can't say it did that much for me. The meals come with nicely printed directions and all the ingredients in a box. But it wasn't the time saver that I thought it would be. None of the ingredients were prepped, so I still had to slice everything. The main time it save is recipe selection and shopping. I am very thankful that this service is available and appreciate the effort that is made to feed those of us who prefer to not venture out too often during the COVID-19 crisis. The service is super; I have received very prompt and personable replies to my e-mails. Further, on the day of delivery, the carrier texted and phoned me, which was much appreciated. Oahu Fresh is such a game changer!! It is the perfect way to support local farmers when all the markets are shut down. All of the produce I've received has been super fresh and delivered on time by an incredibly friendly team (shout-out to Lisa - our trusty delivery person!). The cucumbers especially are some of the tastiest I've ever had, but really all the produce is great. Since they have been scaling their operations, my order was missing an item or two, but the team was so quick to respond and credited my account for next weeks order. Their customer service team is really responsive and helpful! I also love how I can customize my delivery every week, and appreciate all the add-on options - like my favorite Ulu Manna Hummus or Waialua coffee. We all know that there's no such thing as an incoming call that doesn't show up on your cell phone call log, right?! I was so excited to begin receiving weekly deliveries of farm-fresh produce from Oahu Fresh. I put in my order two weeks ago, paid, received delivery confirmation for this past Wednesday, but no delivery. I called, emailed, and DM'd a bunch of times with no response for 3 days. On the 4th day - after giving them plenty of time to handle this situation privately - I posted about my experience on Oahu Fresh's Instagram and Facebook as well as the Facebook group, Stolen Stuff Hawaii. That got their attention. Shortly thereafter, I received an email from Oahu Fresh saying that the delivery driver called and left a message, but I never responded. It took 4 days for them to respond with the message that this was my fault. That's not just bad form, it's incorrect! Oahu Fresh still has my money and I don't have any produce. Their email said I could pick up the order at a warehouse, but gave no address, hours, instructions, etc... and I've already paid for delivery AND made a trip to the grocery store for produce because hello, it's 4 days later! If they rectify the situation satisfactorily, I'll change my review, but for now, Oahu Fresh is not only an unreliable company with horrible customer service, they've also stolen my money! read more

We received a gift from my father for a year's worth of veggies every two weeks. We ended up having 2 deliveries before cancelling the subscription. The food was fresh and we enjoyed using the food, however the customer service was non existent and their contacts don't seem to work. Our first delivery we established that the food would be delivered to security and they'd take care of the rest. For our second delivery, on a Wednesday, during a work day, I received two missed calls from an unknown number. I tried calling them back during my break and received a busy tone signal or hangup tone every time I tried. I then received a text from my wife who screencapped a conversation with the delivery guy who said, "Can you insert this info on Thomas G. Please, their call comm doesn't work and the husband doesn't want to be interrupted " Yes, the delivery guy texted my wife instead of his boss about how I somehow "didn't want to be interrupted". I never spoke with him. To try clearing this up, I tried calling the number on their website and the number provided in their emails, same thing: either a hang up tone or a busy tone. We've been really happy to have fresh, local food appear on our doorstep from Oahu Fresh. We feel good about supporting local farmers, especially now with the pandemic impacting their ability to sell their produce at the outdoor markets and to restaurants. We subscribed to the make-your-own-bag option that allows us to select which items we get. As you might imagine, the list of options to choose from varies somewhat from week to week. So far, we've gotten beautiful kale, delicious bananas, and tomatoes each time. We've also received potatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, papaya, and sweet onions. As an add-on, we've been getting a dozen free-range eggs, and will probably get some cheese next time. My only dissatisfaction is with their website, which is a bit clunky to use and could benefit from some usability testing. read more

I LOVE Oahu Fresh! I signed up in early April 2020, and have really enjoyed the "farmers choice" bag and the great customer service. Living in Waikiki, they deliver right to your door - fantastic! The produce is fresh, varies from week to week, and the pricing is so much better than similar produce (but not locally grown) in nearby grocery stores. Reading the reviews below, I'm surprised by the those that mention poor customer service. I've emailed them twice with questions, and got a response/fix within 24 hours. Not only is the produce from Oahu Fresh delicious, super fresh, and so pretty, but it's also such an amazing variety!! My kids and hubby are obsessed with the lettuce we receive and I love that I get my favorites on rotation. I love eggplant, zucchini, sweet potatoes etc - but my family does not. Really loving my Oahu Fresh orders! It is $24 a week- let's address the elephant in the room first- that is a lot of money for a weekly grocery bag. I've heard this from many people, including people who tried Oahu Fresh. However, in my opinion, it is a good value for the price. One of the best parts is the weekly email newsletter with the items in your bag, the growers, an update and recipes! I have really loved trying new recipes to use all of the vegetables. (Let's be honest- how many people have tried Daikon?!) Each week you get some sort of greens bag- so you can always count on having weekly salads! Other things that have been in the bag include: - mushrooms (button and portabella) - squash (different kinds!) - tomatoes (vine and baby) - jalapeños - corn - cucumbers - carrots - lemongrass - bananas - starfruit - clementines - limes .... and much more! At times there has been produce that has not been fully ripe or has been a little over ripe but this is par for the course when you are handling fresh produce, in my opinion. Remaining loyal to this company has paid off with more accessible produce, new meal ideas and nutrition for my whole family! You can also elect to add specialty items to your bag- as a one time thing or weekly. I usually add eggs to my bag. The prices are similar to whole foods so I feel like the price is right. They also offer honey, coffee, meats, fish and even whole meal plans. Oahu Fresh recently made our school a delivery location for friends and family. They even donate the delivery fee to our under-funded school. This is a great idea, and I really loved knowing about the farms that my food came from each week while I was subscribed. HOWEVER, it is very, very poor value for the price, and the food is not always in the best condition. I paid about $25 a month. It was very nice to have the food delivered to our house each week. The amount of food you get for the money is very little for the price, meaning you could buy about 3x's this amount of food from Safeway for the price... but I was happy to try new things each week and to feel good about doing something nice for the local farmers. Until things started to get really bad and they did not respond to my emails about my concerns. For starters, I ordered an add-on item in August that I never received. It shows up as delivered in my account, but I did not ever get it. Some times you will get food that has already gone bad. That happened to me a couple of times, and I just let it slide without complaining, you know, to support local. Last week, however, was the worst. The "stir fry vegetables" (they never tell you what these greens are) had bug pods on them. AND my cucumber was delivered as a half. Half. Meaning before they delivered it to me, they decided it was a good idea to cut it in half. Mind you, that is not only kind of cheap, but more importantly, it is unsanitary. Once the innards of a vegetable or fruit are exposed to the environment, any germs or nasty things from the outside can just get right up in there. So basically, the cucumber was not edible. Both of these were deal breakers for us. When you get a huge bag of herbs, are you going to inspect every single leaf? Because usually you don't need to. Usually, the distributor has protocols for making sure that their product is bug-free and sanitary. I have visited farms before, and they had a good enough product that you could pick the herbs off of the ground and taste them. They did not have parasites growing on their food because they kept it clean. If you are eating the stir fry veggies from Oahu Fresh, though, please look at every single little tiny leaf front and back before you toss it into your wok. If you don't, there is a chance there are bugs on some of them (see picture). After seeing that, I wasn't able to think about eating those again without being a little disgusted. The worst part was that when I contacted him about it over the span of a week, I got NO response to my emails or phone calls. And I was very polite about it, by the way. So I'm not going to subscribe any more. So there you go, folks: very few products for your buck, very poor quality (some is not sanitary or inedible), and very poor concern for whether you are satisfied as a customer. It is a shame because I was really digging the concept and I was happy to be a part of it. The worst to me is that he never responded to my emails. I wish we could have worked something out. But just trust me on this one: inspect those stir fry veggies for bugs! read more

So far all produce has been good quality. Oahu Fresh gives a heads up (with suggestions and recipes) on their website a day before delivery which is very helpful so you can plan ahead or shop for any other ingredients you might need. This company advertised their eggs as FREE RANGE so when choosing my CSA items I thought I would give them a try. I rarely eat eggs and only do so when the are local and free range. The eggs did not taste or look high quality and so I went to check out the farm they came from and the eggs were "cage free" not free range. It's a big difference. The chickens are not free to roam or go outside. They are kept inside of warehouses. The company Maili Moa won't even let people in to see the farm because they say they are afraid someone will steal their business model, so I wonder if the chickens are even "cage free" like they say. When I found this out, I notified Oahu Fresh and they changed the wording on the website to not say Free Range anymore. Which I appreciated. They responded, "I hope we can source our eggs from somewhere more pono. Perhaps they are one of the only local companies that can keep up with our demand right now, but I will look into better options." I responded that maybe there's a huge demand for their eggs because their customers think they are FREE RANGE because that is the way they were falsely advertised. Also, why are you sourcing eggs from a farm that isn't pono? They responded that they weren't interested in my suggestions on how to advertise. I see they already have poor reviews on Yelp, so I'm happy to cancel my subscription and move to a higher rated company that doesn't sell inhumanely sourced eggs. read more

Their deliveries come on the day that it is scheduled, and I received the selection that I picked, which today was a nice package of Manoa lettuce, package of fresh green beans, Bok choy or mustard greens, bananas, two avocados firm, two nice oranges. The lettuce, Bok choy/mustard and beans looked fresh and green, so I'm looking forward to making a salad the green beans. For the price, it is a fair price for a nice assortment of produce and selection. Yay for CSA!! CSA stands for community supported agriculture. Want an alternative to Safeway, Foodland and Costco produce? CSA is an awesome alternative! And it is an excellent example of a locally based economic model of agriculture and food distribution. Oahu Fresh is a CSA business that networks with Oahu farms and farmers. It is so very important for us to support our local farmers, especially those on Oahu!! Here is CSA's motto from its website: Oahu Fresh provides access to food from local farms for homes, offices, restaurants, hotels, and schools throughout Hawaii. Oahu Fresh also provides direct support to Hawaii's local food economy through distribution, sales, grant writing, and project management. Farmer's markets are great but sometimes it might be hard to get to them. Oahu Fresh delivers a weekly bag of produce for about $25 (this includes the delivery fee). There are many (the list keeps growing!!) of designated delivery locations such as Umeke Market, Leeward Community College, Honolulu Hale, UH Manoa, Kaiser Permanente Mapunapuna, Morning Brew in Kailua, etc. I started getting my weekly bag of produce more than a year ago and I have recruited a few friends from work who are enjoying it as much as I. The way I found out about it was one day I was in Umeke Market picking up lunch and a woman came up the counter, and said "Oahu Fresh" and then her name, and the person behind the counter went in the back and came out with a paper bag brimming with veggies. Wow, what is that about?!? When I looked down on the counter I noticed postcard sized fliers promoting Oahu Fresh. I checked out their website and decided to give it a try. Sometimes I don't get a weekly bag and the beauty of it is that you can control how often you receive your bag. 4x a month, 3x a month or 2x a month. You must place your order by midnight on Friday to receive your produce the following week (we get ours on Wednesdays). On Monday or Tuesday, you can check the website (or you might get an email too) letting you know what is going to be in the bag for the week. The website also includes suggested recipes to use with the items you are receiving. I have used many of the recipes and have found them to be quite helpful. So far each week we have received lettuce and cucumbers and/or tomatoes - so every delivery I know I am getting salad ingredients which is great because I am lazy and this kind of forces me to use and eat salad at home! The best part though is the exposure to all kinds of fruits and veggies. I never knew what a watermelon radish was until Oahu Fresh. I have used them in salad, roasted them etc. I also never tried cooking cassava until Oahu Fresh. I learned how to make really ono bitter melon thanks to one of the provided recipes. I discovered I love butternut squash too! Oh, and the things I can do with Kale now! so amazing! Receiving unusual or uncommon produce really forces you to explore and discover things we normally would not eat. The exposure to new foods and ways of cooking has been enlightening. Besides the weekly deliveries, you can "add on" items as well. From eggs, to Maunawili honey to Shinsato pork, to venison stew from Molokai, to madre chocolate, or butters and cheeses from Naked Cow Dairy - there is a plethora of choices to add on. Sometimes things are out of stock but if you check the add on items regularly you will find there are plenty to choose from. I normally add on 1 or 2 bags of lettuce ($4 a bag) because the lettuce is always so fresh and delicious! You don't know what kind of lettuce you are getting but it is always from Mari's Garden so you know it is good stuff! This week (05/04/16) we received: Taro from Kākoo Ōiwi, Lemon grass from Kākoo Ōiwi, Bok Choy from Green Growers, Grape Tomatoes from Twin Bridge, apple bananas from Pacific Gateway Center, and really beautiful Kale from Pacific Gateway Center. Sometimes, admittedly, we have received produce that is super under ripe or overripe but I tend to let those things slide. Because....have you ever grown your own produce? It tends not to look like it does in Safeway or Costco - all pretty and perfect. But it is way way more flavorful than store bought! I feel like I have gained so much by remaining loyal to this company. I get into food ruts pretty easily. I'm also sure I am not eating enough vegetables. Then I moved closer to KCC and had grand illusions of waking up early on Saturdays and walking a mile uphill to the market- yeah right. So I signed myself up for Oahu Fresh as a forcing function- if the vegetables showed up on my doorstep I would have to take them in and do something with them. So far it's working. I got the once-every-two-weeks option which is good for just one person (though I still occasionally have to give things away). They post recipes on their blog so I'm never at a loss for what to do. They also post what will be in the bag a couple of days ahead of time (I just yelled "yay squaaaash" in my living room). Since they pick the random goodness that goes into the bag, I never fall into a rut with what I eat. (Minor) complaints: -I have to go to the grocery way more often to find ingredients for all those tasty recipes -Seriously, no one needs that much daikon -Every now and then I get something that's significantly overripe. I recently got a giant bunch of basil that had flowered making it very bitter and unusable. -If you skip a week, you won't get a bag the following week. They stick to the original schedule so that means 4 weeks between bags if you skip one. -I seem to always miss the weeks where there's pineapple -I wish cheese was a one-time add-on option instead of with-every-delivery option read more

So far my rating on Oahu fresh would be a zero if I could give it that. I was at the pick up site for my delivery site promptly at 1:45pm. The delivery was scheduled for 2pm. At approximately 1:55p, the Oahu fresh van showed up. The van just sat in front of the site. This was my first time getting a package so I wasn't sure if maybe driver was waiting for people. Promptly at 2p, I got out of my car to walk up to the van and ask the driver how to get my package but the driver was not there. I stood around for 30 seconds then got back in my car. I proceeded to move my car so that it was right behind the van for when the driver came back. At about 2:05p the driver came out from kaiser center. He walked to the driver side of the van, then around the back of the van - passing the front of my vehicle - and to the side of the van and opened the doors. He pulled out a carton of eggs and proceeded to go back into the kaiser Waipio center. Perplexed, I tried calling Oahu fresh to see if I could reach the driver or an operator. It went straight to voicemail. I thought "well maybe there isn't someone who works the van but just takes it indoors instead. I'll go inside and see." I left my car parked behind the van and went inside. I asked some students sitting in the front at a booth if they knew if Oahu fresh had a table or something but they were not familiar. They were not employees of the center so I was not surprised by that. I walked around for about 2 minutes then decided to use the restroom and go back outside to maybe talk to the driver. I believed he may have seen me but didn't know what I was waiting for. It was now 2:10p. When I came out of the bathroom, and back to my car, the van and driver were gone. I then called the Oahu fresh phone number and left a voicemail. I indicated that I had to walk away from work just to try and get this delivery only for it to not be here. I asked that I be given a call back - no call to date. I filled out two comment cards - no reply to that either. I've left 3 voicemails total, with the 2 comment cards and I've sent 3 emails. Absolutely ridiculous. Some guy named Matt replied to me, but did not address any of my concerns at all - simply asked me if I saw the van and confirmed it was delivered. If it was delivered, Matt, you should have proof to show that I'm the one who picked it up - he doesn't. When I brought that up, crickets Bottom line: the company stole my money, won't give me the product and won't be honest with me about it. Despicable that business is being run like this. I know for a fact I'm being avoided at this point. read more

I'm in love with Oahu Fresh after only a week. [Before OF, I was a Ma'o CSA supporter, which would have been perfect if I were a leprechaun. Way.Too.Many.Greens. (Cooking Greens, Salad Greens, Spring Onions, Limes...Just check out their blog if you think I'm being foolish)] Last week's box from OF: hydroponic lettuce. tangelos. bananas. cherry tomatoes. mushrooms. mint. Yum. -1 Star for the stinginess factor. I think for twenty dollars we could have had more than two tangelos in our bag, or maybe an extra head of lettuce instead of one. Or maybe I'm just greedy. I really really wanted to like Oahu Fresh. I am an island girl who lived in the mainland for a couple years, so coming back, the produce just isn't the same quality. Back in the mainland I used to do Imperfect Produce. They're so awesome, always great produce selection, always on time, and I've never had a bad experience with their team. I tried Oahu Fresh thinking that it would be comparable, but my two bags never made it to me. And it took me more than a month to get my refund and cancel my membership. Got my first bag this week and so far, so good. All the produce was in great shape -- could tell it was still really fresh, no bruises or anything. Only disappointment was that i wish there was more of everything. On the other hand, they do deliver right to my office, so it saves me some time shopping. Overall, I love the concept of supporting local agriculture, and I did enjoy the contents of my bag, so I'm in. read more

I really, realllllly, wanted to love this but after about a couple months I've canceled my subscription. A few people say its expensive, and sure its about 30 bucks with delivery a week but thats the price you pay for fresh local food. So I bit the bullet and endured, for a while I thought it was pretty nice. First, I didn't like was that they NEVER answered their phones and NEVER answered my emails. I ordered something that was out of stock the FIRST week I signed up, that was in November. I have yet to be refunded or credited after multiple emails/calls. Second, I found maggots in the last weeks bag. The sweet potatoes were all bad and that kind of did it in for me. Can someone at least look at the food before charging me for it? I hate writing bad reviews on places but felt that their lack of communication left me no other choice. I hope Oahu Fresh can read this and build upon it and improve their services. When that time happens, I'll be back. read more

I was using this service off and on for over 2 years and have had a terrible experience recently. the driver missed a delivery to me back in December- after multiple attempts to contact the office the driver eventually said they would be sending me a refund through my bank- never received. I have sent many emails and calls and have gotten only 2 responses so far, the last being Jan 12- saying I would have my refund in a few days. I find it highly unprofessional the lack of response, and missed delivery to begin with. Not using this service anymore. read more
