My boyfriend got the soursop smoothie and I got the sugarcane juice. The sugarcane was so authentic and cooled me down on such a warm humid day, I loved it! You'll see a small crowd gathered around the stall in no orderly fashion. You can also get your exotic fruit fix, depending on the season; currently dragon eyes and mango to name a couple. When I'm not getting my coffee, this is where I come to get fresh smoothies. On this visit, I got the mango smoothie with boba. I came into Chinatown for chaus fresh fruit, as I wanted to try lychee for the first time since I was in Hawaii and they have tropical fruits. It started off great when they had a ton of nice people handing you free samples and showing you how to eat it, the two ladies there were very nice but they didn't speak English too well, however they showed us how to eat the fruits and how to peel them. However, it was kind of sketchy and there was rotting fruit in the stall next to us along with black soursops with flies on them. The lychee we bought were ext to them. I got a strawberry boba a sugarcane juice a bag of lychees and I tried a sapodilla that they gave us for free. It was like 17 dollars for a bag of lychee so moderately priced but about 12 hours later I got food poisoning and felt extremely nauseous. Do NOT get the sugarcane juice as gay is most likely how I got food poisoning. Not fun, go somewhere else. Very sketchy and homeless people roaming the street read more

This stall is always so busy but I happened to go recently when there was no line. I got the pineapple smoothie with boba. I thought the price ($7 as of January 2025) was reasonable for the amount you get which is a lot. The pineapple flavor was on the light side but still enjoyable. It could also be due to it being winter so the fruit is not in season. For the same price as what other places charge for artificially flavored teas, I think it is a good deal to get real fruit in the smoothie. read more

Chau's Fresh Fruit isn't the most glamorous, friendly, nor Instagramable vendor. They're just doing their job at an open-air stall. At least there's a roof! My first attempt at getting a durian smoothie left me frazzled because I didn't tell the worker at the start that I don't want dairy in my smoothie. I paid the $8 cash and gave it to my friend. The worker didn't offer to remake it and she didn't offer to make a new smoothie. I also got a pound of boiled peanuts - they weren't as salty as the ones at Foodland. They weren't wet nor mushy, but needed some flavor. Boiled peanuts were just okay. A couple of weeks later, I returned and knew to ask upfront for a smoothie without milk. The worker repeated my request and said she will just use water and sugar. Correct. It wasn't as creamy as other places that use a milk alternative, but it wasn't bad. The location is convenient and they also sell a variety of exotic tropical fruits like star apple and mangosteen. It's just a stall on the side of the road, but it's conveniently located on the makai entrance to the maunakea marketplace outdoor area, The service is kinda slow and they aren't that friendly. But they offer boba in the drinks and will accommodate special requests if you have them. I like that they offer flavors like durian and soursop, but I usually just go for the sugarcane juice. At $8 a cup, it's a little on the pricey side. The cups aren't as big as other places and it tasted a little watered down, maybe from all the ice. They also give paper straws which I'm not a fan of. If you're in the area, you can find other places exactly like Chau's that offer a little better quality I think. But you kinda have to find them in random places. I asked them to reweigh the mangoes because the price seemed high--all three weighed exactly 1 pound, which should have been $9, not $17. I busted a mission for some Logan and Rambutan fruit and she had both! Both fruits were out of season so they were pretty hard to find and pricey. However, this was the first disappointing sugar cane experience we didn't even finish our $8 cup. The sugar cane juice here does not taste fresh - it even tasted artificial. I think I even saw them blend something? Why? It was very odd. I saw them add sweetener to their avocado smoothies. So I was wondering whether they had our sweetener in the sugar cane juice to throw the taste so off. There was also major language barrier so it was hard for me to ask what was in the juice. We also purchased several fruits, while the price is competitive, I did not think it was the freshest compared to some of the other vendors. The rambutan, lychee, longan, and wax apple were all just OK. The prepackaged bags we picked had several pieces that had gone bad. The pro is that they do accept credit cards. read more

We usually get sugar cane juice here & pick up some fresh small mangos... they were $8 per lb, so we got $9 worth which was about 3 mangos! They are sooooo sweet tho, they are very delicious. We always come back for these mangos, expensive but worth it. Be careful when in Chinatown, lots of homeless walking around the street but there also a lot of police around and parked on the street as well. In our adventure to find fresh rare fruit, we searched hi and lo for a farmer's market near Waikiki during our trip to Oahu. While weren't able to find any that were operating near us my Son did find Chau's on Yelp and that lead us to the gold mine open market in Chinatown where we were able to score mangosteen, soursop, jackfruit, mangos, and other great fruits and veggies.
