Easily accessible by bus from Waikiki. All the market staff were friendly! Even with language barriers, they were really helpful at answering questions. I got lucky and visited while the streets were not too busy so it was nice to walk around and pop in from shop to shop on a sunny Sunday.

Upon approach to our fave Chinese roasters, I noticed ABC Market with its fresh locally (some imported) grown fruits and vegetables displays. ABC Market has been in O'ahu Market's stall #25 for some time now but it took me until today to stop, browse and make a purchase. As I browsed through the fruits and produce, I managed to purchase a couple of Hawaiian papayas, green onions and bitter melon. The papayas are still green but I don't usually buy ripe papayas because they ripen quite quickly so these will ripen over the next couple of days. But, the green onions aka scallions and bitter melon were fresh looking and priced competitively with the other nearby fruit and vegetable vendors. The cashier was soft spoken as she weighed our papayas and then the bitter melon before telling us how much to pay. Our total bill only came up $6.25. I don't think that this vendor takes credit or debit cards as most vendors in Chinatown are CASH ONLY. She packed our papayas, scallions and bitter melons in separate plastic bags which made it easier for us to put into our Yelp reusable tote bag. We'll be back either in a couple of days as I was eyeing the soursop and egg fruits but didn't get them today since we walked into town and didn't want to lug home too heavy bags.

There is a little mix of shade and direct sun so it is enjoyable to go for a leisurely stroll, look at the vendor offerings and get food or snacks. It is on the ocean so you can walk by the water and enjoy the view later. The Farmers Market is located in two parts so you cross the street to get to the rest of the market. There is parking in the street and close by so it isn't too bad finding parking.

From foods to unique trinkets and artists to a magician and a cello player. I know it sounds like a circus but I found this market to be just so fun. First off, when you walk in and in the middle there is a cello player that adds so much ambiance to the area. I then found some really cool bamboo stickers with so many cool designs that I thought were so unique I just had to buy some. Hawaiian honey was well represented there with some delicious flavors being sampled. Lastly there were some just so kind, friendly and talented artists there that if we had room in our luggage I would totally have been compelled to buy. Being a tourist to the area, this is a destination for us now, when in Hawaii gonna have to stop in every time.

And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. It looked the same as it did the first time I went with my grandfather. I picked up a couple pounds of dry aku for my favorite sister and some tee shirts as memorabilia. It was pretty busy and I expect that will continue until They close. Still, the people were nice and very helpful. I'm really going to miss it!

I suppose it's not really the most exciting farmers market if you're more familiar with the KCC one or ones where there's many prepared foods vendors. There was one prepared food vendor and one extra art vendor so not a whole lot to explore. There's a nearby playground where it's focused for the bigger kids since it's mostly climbing focused. The marketplace where this is located, if you aren't familiar, is filled with many stores that sell food and even have a Safeway grocery store. Parking was relatively easy on a Sunday since there's a big parking lot.

Love this Manoa Farmers' Market in Manoa Marketplace as I needed a break from errands and thought that a quick drive up Manoa would be it and after a some lunch and visit to Fendu Boulangerie for a breakfast bite tomorrow I noticed some tents in front of the post office area. With what seems to just four vendors two are selling vegetables all are pre priced and packed making it very easy to browse and shop, there was an art seller and lastly was for some flowers at $5 for a small bunch it was just right for the butsudan and I just loved the lavender shade of anthurium. No veggies for me today though there were some that I wanted but had more errands to run but know that they're here and is a quick and easy place to find some fresh produce and veggies along with supporting local. I used to limit my spending to $10 while shopping for dinner for my wife and I. There will be a lot of things I will miss in the future of Kekaulike Market. I stop by Chow's Seafood and Meat Market to buy Chinese fishcake which is one of the only stalls that sell it now. The stall. might not look like the most sterile place to shop but the fishcake is very good. The fishcake is a raw paste that you could use in any number of dishes. It sells for about $8 a pound but it stretches the budget and you get a lot of fishcake dumplings in one pound.

Located on Kekaulike Street - between King Street and Hotel Street - Kekaulike Market is one of the "go to" places for fresh produce and fresh meats and seafood. Today, I was looking for a pineapple for my mom, but, unfortunately, didn't find any. However, I did see items such as locally caught fish packed in ice, clean chicken feet in refrigerated cases, and tables full of colorful vegetables and fruits! The variety is overwhelming! There are many vendors inside of the air conditioned market and even more stalls right outside the market's doors - all along the wall! Just take your time and compare prices. Bring tote bags ...and cash for better bargaining power! Remember that metered street parking is free on Sundays and holidays. If you're early, you can get free parking on King Street. If not, the municipal parking lots have reasonable parking rates.

Went produce shopping in Chinatown this morning looking for daikon and lemon because have you ever…read morehad a dish at a restaurant you wanna replicate at home? Especially if it's something so simple? That's me to a T. So I wandered around Keakaulike Mall looking for any vendors that had both items I was searching for. Either the daikon was way too big for what I needed or they only sold one but not the other. The last place I stumbled upon was Chan's Market. They had just the perfect sized daikon I needed plus they had lemons too. You have to go inside the store to pay. Honestly it's not the cleanest looking place but I'm not here for the ambiance. Just a quick pay and go. Paid only $1.05 for both items so I'm a happy camper. Don't forget to bring your own recyclable bag because the produce bags becomes your take away bag. I made oroshi daikon to go with my BBQ chicken. I still need to figure out how to cut the bite down because it turned out spicy. Trial and error I guess. If I had to take a guess I think I need to buy the whopper sized daikon. Review for Yoshitsune forthcoming...the place that gave me inspiration.

I tried the butter mochi this past visit and it was good. It always amazes me the ladies who take your order and don't write it down and somehow get it right. I can see one or two things but my wife likes to order 5-6 things. I've been lucky to go when no one was in line (a rainy day) and have waited in line for over 30 minutes. This past visit was only about 20 minutes. I guess it's a roll of the dice. After Char Hung Sut closed many years back this has been my go to for Manapua.

The pepeau was also flavorful and the pouch was light and delicious, not overly thick and chewy. There was a baked triangle filled with a pork filling. The pastry was light and delightful. My sisters can't participate because they have to work. I can't let my mom take the entire load, so, I offered to make shoyu chicken. My mom said she wanted a pineapple to cut up and serve next to my chicken dish. Ok... Time to look for a pineapple... While browsing through the many vendors at Kekaulike Market, I arrived at a stall where Marguro Brothers used to be. I asked for the name of the business and the gal said, "Same as outside". (They also have a space outside of the market - on the sidewalk.) I asked for a business card. She searched her pockets and found one... Fruition Market Interesting! I saw that my friend, Andy, had written a review, so, I knew that this place was legitimate. Intrigued by a bag of shelled peanuts, I wondered how they would be in my shoyu chicken... One way to find out! The bag of peanuts was just $5, including tax! Yippee! Note: I parked for free on King Street because it was 8am (early) on a Tuesday!

Solid meaning and the word "fruit" is incorporated too! This is one of my main stalls I visit whenever I go to Chinatown. It's located inside and outside of Kekaulike Market. It's the stall on the left of the King St side entrance. I always get my scallions and A-Choy (Taiwanese Lettuce) here. They're always fresh and great quality. The lettuce sells very well in Chinatown and if you get there late (or to any other store) you'll often find them all gone or just the semi-wilted/spent too much time outside ones. If you go in the morning or happen to know when they get their produce deliveries, you can choose straight from the box instead of the bagged ones. I always prefer buying scallions by the pound instead of the $1 bunches because you can choose, and I believe it's a better deal. They have a nice array of vegetables and fruits, and the prices are the same as other stores and stalls. The ladies working here are very nice and helpful. Always great service. Overall, the quality and availability of their produce and frozen poultry really stands out here compared to other stores. It's one of the main stores I come to whenever I'm in Chinatown.
