I always get a coconut -- this time of year, there were two options to choose -- small versus large. The large one is from Hawaii and is limited time of year, roughly one month of the year. Delicious! Also, they cut the coconut in half and provide spoons to enjoy the inside meat. Also love the fresh fruit stand with prickly pear fruits, star fruit, mango, and also some homemade items like coconut tapioca pudding, mango with sticky rice, papaya salad. Crafts vendors have beautiful handmade pens, signs, bracelets. I still highly recommend checking out the farmers market -- many unique items and offerings not found in traditional stores around the area!

We arrived around 8:15a and had no trouble finding parking in the lot although it's pretty rocky (hopefully they'll pave it someday). Going early also helped us beat the crowds & the heat. One of our first stop was Joja & watched him make burgers. We also picked up some salted macadamia toffee from Almond Tree and it was so good! We bought a couple containers for gifts! The highlight was Sugah Papi Farms. We got a fresh fruit bowl and the ladies selling were so friendly! The fruit was incredibly sweet, especially the papaya mango and lychee. The gentleman cutting the fruit was amazing to watch. His knife skills were seriously impressive and watching him prepare the fruit was part of the experience. Get a fruit bowl and take a minute to watch him work! I love supporting local vendors who take pride in providing high-quality produce and products. We left with several bags, happy stomachs and looking forward to coming back!!

And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. It looked the same as it did the first time I went with my grandfather. I picked up a couple pounds of dry aku for my favorite sister and some tee shirts as memorabilia. It was pretty busy and I expect that will continue until They close. Still, the people were nice and very helpful. I'm really going to miss it!

I suppose it's not really the most exciting farmers market if you're more familiar with the KCC one or ones where there's many prepared foods vendors. There was one prepared food vendor and one extra art vendor so not a whole lot to explore. There's a nearby playground where it's focused for the bigger kids since it's mostly climbing focused. The marketplace where this is located, if you aren't familiar, is filled with many stores that sell food and even have a Safeway grocery store. Parking was relatively easy on a Sunday since there's a big parking lot.

I stop by Chow's Seafood and Meat Market to buy Chinese fishcake which is one of the only stalls that sell it now. The stall. might not look like the most sterile place to shop but the fishcake is very good. The fishcake is a raw paste that you could use in any number of dishes. It sells for about $8 a pound but it stretches the budget and you get a lot of fishcake dumplings in one pound.

Located on Kekaulike Street - between King Street and Hotel Street - Kekaulike Market is one of the "go to" places for fresh produce and fresh meats and seafood. Today, I was looking for a pineapple for my mom, but, unfortunately, didn't find any. However, I did see items such as locally caught fish packed in ice, clean chicken feet in refrigerated cases, and tables full of colorful vegetables and fruits! The variety is overwhelming! There are many vendors inside of the air conditioned market and even more stalls right outside the market's doors - all along the wall! Just take your time and compare prices. Bring tote bags ...and cash for better bargaining power! Remember that metered street parking is free on Sundays and holidays. If you're early, you can get free parking on King Street. If not, the municipal parking lots have reasonable parking rates.

Especially if it's something so simple? That's me to a T. So I wandered around Keakaulike Mall looking for any vendors that had both items I was searching for. Either the daikon was way too big for what I needed or they only sold one but not the other. The last place I stumbled upon was Chan's Market. They had just the perfect sized daikon I needed plus they had lemons too. You have to go inside the store to pay. Honestly it's not the cleanest looking place but I'm not here for the ambiance. Just a quick pay and go. Paid only $1.05 for both items so I'm a happy camper. Don't forget to bring your own recyclable bag because the produce bags becomes your take away bag. I made oroshi daikon to go with my BBQ chicken. I still need to figure out how to cut the bite down because it turned out spicy. Trial and error I guess. If I had to take a guess I think I need to buy the whopper sized daikon. Review for Yoshitsune forthcoming...the place that gave me inspiration.

We arrived at about 8 am, there were a few people in line, it went quickly. The lady who helped me repeated my orders and got my orders correct. Very well organized and efficient service! My order box #1 2 steamed manapuas 2 baked manapuas 8 Pork hash 1 Rice cake Box #2 1 steamed Manapua 12 Pork hash 6 Half moon 2 Rice cakes 2 Red bean Mochi Let me say all of it was yummy! and if you like fresh & authentic tasting Dim Sum. I highly recommend this place. It was definitely worth the drive! Don't forget if you like the mustard dipping sauce you'll have to ask. Cost is .25 or .50 cents. I'm not sure exactly how this dipping sauce is made but it was a perfect mixture.
