Omg how cute is this little smoothie shack on the North Shore of Hawaii, Huula! It's so laid back and the owner was adorable and told us how much he loved Huula. Yes he was moving slow but hey we're on the North Shore! Let's keep the country ... country. I ordered the watermelon and almond milk. It was super delicious and hit the spot. I thought the prices were reasonable. $8 for my drink.
Every time I go to Aloha Shrimp truck I have to stop here to get a smoothie. There smoothies are fresh and delicious. This smoothie spot has a fruit stand. There is a window that you both order and pick up from. There is also a bench where you can sit and wait or enjoy your smoothie. My wife's go-to is the banana smoothie. She will not deviate from this order. It is very good, and made with almond milk. It has a creamy consistency and a subtle sweetness. I like to try a new flavor every once in a while but a favorite of mine is the pitaya (dragon fruit) when it's in season. This time I ordered the pineapple and coconut smoothie. It was tasty and had lot of pulp. The service is good, sometimes the wait times are a little long due to tourist buses that stop but in my opinion it is worth the wait. I have yet to try the shave ice but maybe I will next visit.
Service was quick! I stopped by 30 min before closing and it was pretty empty on a Monday afternoon. There was *a lot* of ice in my smoothie and not that much papaya so it really wasn't naturally sweet. The coldness made my throat hurt for a good hour and a half. I've had papaya around the island and it's normally pretty sweet. I expected it to be sweet but nope : / Tasted a little grainy especially in the aftertaste, not sure if the coconut meat made the smoothie taste that way. Tickled my throat. Glad I had water on hand if needed. Not sure if I sound dumb of this is normal.... Just sharing my personal experience
I've been wanting to come get an açaí bowl here for a while but haven't until now because I thought they were cash only. GREAT NEWS! They actually also take Venmo & Cash App. Açaí bowl was good - more fruits than açaí (which isn't a horrible thing), and you can also tell it's not just açaí sorbet. Not as sugary sweet which is great. Made fresh to order, and 'ono on a warm afternoon!
Everything we ordered was very tasteful and the service was great! A very authentic Hawaiian ambiance!!
My coconut was kind of disappointing, not very sweet. However we got the best papaya I've ever eaten here! Tasted like pure honey. Also a good mango. He charges $2 to "cut the fruit" but he didn't peel it, just cut it up. He takes venmo/cashapp if you don't carry cash!
An amazing experience with my whole family. We have seen no better than Coconut Joe. Their service is amazing and they are very nice. They have a very nice environment and can stop on the side and order.
For all the smoothie lovers, this place is for you. Very nice couple who run this stand. There are multiple different combinations to choose from. Plus shave ice and a local dish called palusami. Very nice couple run this stand, have patience if you come with a large group, everything is fresh and made with love.
I had such high hopes... Due to me being a lover of all things refreshing & coco-nutty, I made it an absolute must to visit Coconut Joe. My girlfriend and I drove well over an hour to North Shore to soak up the sun, relax on the beach, and satisfy my hardcore cravings for an ice cold, fresh coconut. We were welcomed by the sight of fresh fruit placed out on display as soon as we pulled up. Wanting to waste no time I headed up to the window to make our purchases. My girl requested for 2 small coconuts and the gentleman [whom I assume was Joe] let's her know that there is only ONE small available. No worries, one small and one medium works out just fine. The man cuts open the first coconut and hands it off. As he begins to cut the second one, he informs us that the two coconuts are actually "medium". Okaaaaaaaaaaay.... We opted to proceed due to the difference being just an additional dollar and at this point, there wasn't much that could have be done. The man hands off the second coconut and my girl makes the last minute decision to have the flesh removed and water placed in separate cups. The man seemed a bit irritated but went along with our requests. Keep in mind, we happily paid the additional fee required to do so [$2 additional per coconut]. Fast forward: the coconuts weren't anything amazing. To be honest, they both tasted like water with the slightest hint of coconut. The coconut flesh on one coconut was okay- young but lightweight firm. The second coconut was a huge letdown- slimy and barely any meat [which indicates how young the fruit was]. I couldn't help but feel duped and my gf couldn't stomach any of the flesh so it went straight into the trash. 2 stars. The coconuts that were provided were not worth the long trek.
Must.go.back! I had the honor to be served by Joe himself. What a humble, laid back, kind dude. I ordered a fresh medium coconut, he cracked it open with his mini machete (cool!). I told him the story of the rotten, expensive coconut I had earlier that day, he asked me where I got it at a tourist trap near Dole. He shook his head. I took one sip of Joes coconut and all that upset from this morning swept away! This tasted SO fresh and delicious and enough to share between a few of us! He told me to bring it back and he would cut the meat out for Me. What a good guy. He has a super clean setup here - I watched him, fascinated with his skill and kindness. I took a video ! Check it out! Come here, you won't regret it!
I'm a local from North Shore and I've been trying to buy more food from our small mom & pops store before I move. I've been craving the coconut meat lately so I'll buy this fruit stand/smoothie place since I stopped for a coffee & am trying the banana bread from the store. Let's just say this large coconut was $13 and all I got was a tall cup of coconut water & ZERO meat Very disappointed and I can only imagine this is what our visitors pay for and get after spending thousands of dollars to come to this beautiful island.
While there is nothing necessarily negative about Coconut Joes there's nothing that make it outstanding either. Home to açaí bowls, smoothies, and shave ice this "blink and you'll miss it"stand sits right next to a convenient store and tattoo parlor. So there really isn't any dining or sitting area as much as its takeaway. What makes Coconut Joes stand out from a shave ice aspect is the size of the shave ice bowl which was huge. I also saw customers order a smoothie a fresh Hawaiian Fruit plate and I mean FRESH! The down sides were in the ice cream that felt carton bought and was mostly melted when I got to it. A bit pricey at $12 for a large but you DO get a lot. Lastly the lady working it seemed upset to be working and maybe she was on New Years Eve? She also worked at a snails pace. I recognize and understand Island Time but this seemed like an intentional strike. At the End of the Day if you're touring the north shore or need a shave ice fix this place does the trick and is worth the stop. It was excellent shave ice but didn't separate itself from others either. read more

Roadside stand right off the beach on the North Shore next to Aloha Shrimp. Great place for desert or fruit drinks after you eat your shrimp! They have smoothies, fresh fruit, etc. I had the coconut water straight out of the coconut shell. They take a fresh (cold) coconut and chop a hole in the top for you and give you a straw to drink from. After you drink it, they will also chop the shell up for you and give you the coconut meat out of it to eat. read more
Fast, friendly service. We were driving along the coast and decided to stop by. It's a quaint little place with only two workers, maybe a husband and wife team. The husband was mixing and making the drinks and the wife was taking the orders. We were pretty full so we only ordered a medium coconut. We saw a bunch of people order shave ice and smoothies but we just really wanted some fresh coconut juice. It was $10 for a medium coconut. It was ice cold and delicious. After we were done, we brought it back to get it scooped and chopped. Sorry forgot to take a pic of the whole coconut, but they skinned the coconut for us. They also had other fruits such as dragonfruit and guava for sale. As well as cut up fruits ($5) like mango and coconut. Overall, we would go back and try a smoothie (can pick up to 3 flavors), shave iced, açaí bowl, or grab a coconut again. read more

This is a hidden gem when going to North Shore. This is the best place for a fresh coconut and fruits. I got a fresh coconut and the man hacked it open for him immediately. I also got a soursop and it was so delicious. My friend got a shaved ice and it was perfect for the scorching hot weather. read more

I got the Açaí bowl here and the fruit on it was so amazing. The strawberry had an almost liquor quality to it from the sugars. The pineapple and mango were perfectly soft ripe sweet and juicy. Blown away. read more

Got two coconuts with my girlfriend after a hike. Hers tasted amazing, mine was legit sour and slightly warm and she agreed, it was 5 bucks each for two small coconuts. When I asked them if I could exchange mine for a less sour one they told me that's how coconuts are. I eat coconuts from cheap vietnamese stores that were way better, I think they were just being cheap. Also, their pineapples were in dole boxes, so maybe they just buy their fruit from the supermarket too. Very sketchy read more

Off the path on the way to North Shore we were craving fruit and shaved ice. Found this place with decent ratings and gave it a shot. The shaved ice was pretty good with the syrup tasting a bit generic. The mangos were delicious and the medium coconut I got was very bland. Quality seems very inconsistent. read more

After hiking Crouching Lion and fishing for no fish, I was very much craving something sweet...like shave ice. Or an acai bowl! We followed yelp directions to a food truck that supposedly sold those things, but unfortunately that food truck was not there! An acai bowl ad on the side of the building caught my eye, so we parked and went to go check it out. We were warmly greeted by a man who proposed fresh smoothies or shave ice. I inquired about acai and pointed to the pictured ad, but he told me they would start selling acai and pitaya next week...FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! But daijobu, I got a large shave ice. And it was bomb. So bomb I wanted to give 5 stars, but my acai bowl disappointment curbed my rating to a 4. The gentleman serving us was so friendly. After finishing my sweet cravings on the bed of my boyfriend's truck, I walked back to the concession stand to ask the name of the venue. I wanted to write a review because the shave ice quality was worth the effort. "Excuse me...what is the name of this place?" I asked the man. "Coconut Holes. Come back and visit us again next time you drive by!" "Coconut Holes?" I asked with a puzzled look. "Ohno, Coconut Bowls!" "Coconut Bowls?" "Yup, Coconut Bowls." "Ohh okay we'll definitely come back if we're ever in the area. Thanks!" I returned to the truck and told my boyfriend that the man working was so friendly and that I had to write a review about the place. My boyfriend told me that we were speaking apples and oranges. I was talking about the place being new and he was talking about the new acai and pitaya products. Ah it's okay, I still wanted to write a review about my shave ice from Coconut Bowls. As we exited the parking lot area there was a sign that read, "Coconut Joes." The GOOD: ~shave ice: good texture- almost comparable to Waiolas ~shave ice: small- $4 large- $5 ~friendly service ~free, easy parking ~conveniently located for your northeast adventures The Ehh: ~false advertisement: was told acai and pitaya bowls coming next week read more

Best shave ice we had on Oahu! And we didn't have to wait in a huge line. Fresh fruits available too! Guy working the window was really friendly. I got a small rainbow ice with ice cream. The portion size is huge! The place was clean and we appreciated that they kept the flavors in the refrigerator. Great quality. Can be easy to miss when driving by. It's attached to a little convenient store, in the same lot as the Aloha Shrimp food truck. read more
