Driving on the Kamehameha Highway to the North Shore, Jamie W. and I felt a need for a pitstop, and this convenience market and lunch counter was a satisfying find, especially just before we hit the exorbitant prices at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We didn't take advantage of the tempting Hawaiian specialties they offer like the Loco Moco Omelette since we had garlic shrimp ahead of us. Really great store and breakfast/lunch spot!! We were staying nearby and went here three times today. Truly amazing they are celebrating 77 years. First we had the musubi and went next door to coconut joes for a smoothie and açaí bowl for breakfast. Next we called Kaya's for lunch to-go (definitely recommend calling ahead) and had the pan fried ahi and garlic furikake chicken and butter mochi for dessert. Amazing lunch!!!! Pan fried ahi is a must. Then we went back in the evening for drinks and muffins for tomorrow morning, and we ordered dinner at a food truck next door. Wonderful owner working there all day long. Highly recommend. They also have candy, ice cream, wine, beer/seltzers, anything you need really! read more

One of our favorite experiences from our previous trip to the Oahu had to be repeated again this trip. Breakfast was amazing and the location is amazing. Sitting on clean picnic benches with the ocean crashing nearby with wild roosters keeping us company. Loved every minute and the staff is wonderful. This great store has a bit of everything. It is run by nice people too. Their plate lunches and breakfast items are really good, I very much recommend stopping in for their daily offerings. I honestly don't think I could get by out here as easily as I have if Kaya's Store wasn't there for not only me but everyone that lives nearby. A true gem. read more

Love this little store! I have been coming here since I was a kid. Over the years to store evolved into a Eclectic bunch of services. You can get a tattoo, Subway sandwich, some really good Thai food, even garlic shrimp. But it Kaya's Kitchen that draws me here every time. They are breakfasts are simple and so good! Where to begin?!? The hot food counter, that's where! Here for 8 days and ate breakfast here 5 times. Simply amazing! Loco Moco, Lau Lau, roasted pork, garlic chicken, fried rice, spam musubi, and fresh, warm banana bread!! All of it was spectacularly delicious and made with love. The store itself has enough of the essentials to get you by, and there are 4 additional food trucks with Pho, Thai, burgers, and shrimp, all of which were fantastic as well. There are covered picnic tables outside where you can dine with the chickens while listening to the ocean breeze. You can even take an ice cold beer to go and sip here while you eat. This is for the mochi rolls. Had it Oct 2017 and I STILL think about this roll time to time. I highly recommend it. It's just buttery, chewy-good chewy, goodness all up in your mouth. If I could have it everyday, I would. I came acrossed it while stopping by this store for some water. Saw it on the counter. I was bit hesitant at first but I'm so glad I did it. I went back the next day to pick up more. I even stopped by before heading to the airport and brought some back with me. I tried other mochi roll from foodland but it's not the same. Small but adequate general store with very friendly staff. They carry pretty much all the bare food and drink necessities (including beer, wine and liquor). Prices elsewhere may be cheaper, but for convenience, this place can't be beat. read more

5 stars, for what it is: a great little "necessities" store out by Hauula. Very nice, personable people working there. They don't need to be there, but they are -- and with a smile! Selection's not going to blow your socks off, but they really are well-stocked. If they don't have what you need, then you suck at planning, and should probably stick to town. This is great little general store on the windward side of Oahu. The folks are friendly and they carry the necessities that you may have forgotten in town. The store offer local dishes from "Two Bald Guys" kitchen, Excellent shaved ice is served in a trailer. A new coffee kiosk. And for the less adventurous, a "Subway" shop inside of the store. Wow, what a gem on the North shore side. Small, quaint "Mom and Pop" style market with some ono grinds. Had the Loco Moco with the fried egg on top and the homemade brown gravy....really hit the spot. Also had the garlic ahi with onions, also a number one hit. Finished it off with some homemade butter mochi, which incidentally was written up in the newspaper. While chit-chatting with the owners, Bev and Vern, saw some orders of the New York steak made up which also looked good. The owners are some of the most "down-to-earth" people you will ever meet and the spirit of aloha carries into the food that is made there. Definitely well worth the trip from Honolulu. read more

This place takes you back from younger days. It's a cute mom and pop store that used to be everywhere in hawaii, they have a little bit of everything, from fishing supplies to plate lunches. My boyfriend and I are currently leaving Kaya's in the best mood. Their food and service was basically euphoric. I ordered the seared ahi with chili aoili and he ordered the loco moco. They both came with macaroni salad, rice, and a small side of cucumber salad. My ahi tasted so fresh and the sauce complemented it so perfectly. His loco moco was exactly what he wanted out of an authentic Hawaiian breakfast! The woman working the kitchen was the sweetest, most smiley, genuine woman and the chef even poked his head out from the grill to smile at us. Go here!! read more

Kaya's is a great little convenience store. The people who work here are always friendly and their bright attitudes are infectious. I'll come here to pick up a cold soda, candy, musubi or other standard neighborhood market fare. They have a kitchen in the back with pretty good food -- I picked up a breakfast here the other day for under $5, and it included 3 eggs, spam, portuguese sausage, and fried rice. It was so much food I couldn't even finish it all. Great deal. There is also a Subway located inside. It's a little tiny Subway but it still rocks like a normal sized one. It is also the cleanest Subway I've ever been in. Best thing about the Subway is that every Tuesday is "Buy one footlong get one footlong free" day. It can get a little busy on Tuesdays because of this, but that makes sense. It's a sweet deal. I got an Italian BMT and a Cold Cut Combo for 7 bucks. Nice little convenience store on the North Shore. Grabbed a mini loco moco for lunch and will say it was really Ono! The hamburger was very good, but the brown gravy with grilled onions over an egg (your way) was near perfection. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. read more
