I have always trusted CeX as I've sold a number of phones over the years. I liked the way the were…read morevery thorough in ensuring it wasn't a stolen phone and always received a reasonable return in cash. This all changed yesterday, 7th September. I was looking for a simple Nokia replacement for my elderly father. For €45.00 I purchased a rather worn Nokia. However because it comes with a 2 year warranty I thought, well it must be a good phone. To my utter disbelief when I went to put the SIM card in I learnt those purchasing aren't getting value for money. I opened the back, it was absolutely filthy. They hadn't even bothered to clean the inside. Upon turning it on the phones memory hadn't been wiped either. Nobody bothered to set the factory reset button. I returned it immediately, I got my money back but I will not be going anywhere near CeX again. Honestly I thought you had a good reputation. I was able to buy a brand new Nokia 610 in a store a few hundred meters away. AVOID

Good store blighted by several issues, so without further ado, let's begin…read more The pricing here generally whips Gamestop's so-called bargains, which means that this store generally attracts a crowd. The best way is to get in early, and browse at your own leisure. Second-hand phone prices are insanely expensive, especially for anything with an Apple logo on it. Even someone with not a lot of money can find something here, as their game prices start at just 20 cent! That said, the issues are a problem: 1) Opening hours. Despite the fact that the staff members are often in the building 10-20 minutes ahead of time, they seem incapable of sticking to their 10am opening time. 2) New arrivals of stock are often not placed on sale until the following day, which renders the "check stock" function of their website pretty useless when you can't find what you're looking for. 3) Disorganized queue system. There could be as much as five people behind the counter, and only two of them will actually operate the registers. 4) Disorganized stock. Shelves can go for more than a week without being alphabetized or cleaned. Recently, a chocolate bar was left on one of the shelves, and two days later, it was still there. 5) Suspect buying practices. Three times now, I have been witness to staff members accepting shrink-wrapped products. True, the seller was asked to open the seal on these items prior to the purchase being made, but 18 copies of the same new release DVD, from the same seller, under these conditions?? 6) Price changes. This happens constantly, but the staff never seem to update the price tags, which confuses a lot of people. 7) No phone number on their website. Imagine this; you're travelling from Cork to Dublin and this store has something you're looking for. How can you reserve it when they don't provide a phone number? They have one, they just won't give it to most customers. So in closing, definitely visit here, but do it before noon because the stock will usually be in a jumbled-up state!

The Carphone Warehouse is a kind of stripped down version of 3, Meteor, Vodafone and O2 under one…read moreroof. You get to compare your options without having to trapes into each individual phone shop, but you're actually better off to do so as you may get a network-specific deal at the provider's own shop. But if you're rich and lazy, you may as well go here. Why is it called CARphone warehouse though? There's very little car related stuff in here.

I just finished writing a review for the Rathmines shop and you think that would be enough. But…read moreit's not. Let me tell you a story... Once upon a time. Not that kind of story. I went in to Rathmines to buy phone credit and SIM cards for my students who were arriving and I asked, just out of curiosity, what were their cheapest phones. They showed me a phone and I got a great deal, so bought 4 of them. Then I said that I would be interested in buying in bulk and he said that I would need a letter, etc So I got all the paperwork done and went back to Rathmines, but they didn't have enough phones for me. They suggested going to Grafton St., which I did. I explained the above story to the really helpful shop assistant, Shauna and presented her with the note from my boss and the company brochure and she told me they didn't have enough phones. So I asked if I could get the total from different shops and she call ahead. Well, she spoke to the manager and he phoned all the shops in town and instead of me going on this wild cellphone chase, the manager went and got the remainder of the phones. Then they set up the phones for me, added the credit and sent them to the Rathmines shop. Now, isn't that service? Amazing. And they made me a cup of coffee. Really happy I did business with them...
