The Russell Home Thrift Store benefits the Russell House established by Vantrease Russell who was…read morelovingly known as Grandma Russell. Russell House was the first of its kind when it was established in 1951 as a licensed home for children with special needs. The seed for the home was planted when Mrs. Russell's doctor asked if she could care for a disabled child who had nowhere else to go. She agreed even though she had seven children of her own. Through the years the Russell House has cared for more than 1,500 physically and mentally challenged children. They have relied completely on private funding and revenue generated from this thrift store. There is a memorial statue for Vantrease Russell in Cypress Grove Park which neighbors the Russell House and often served as a place for Russell to take the children on outings. Russell Home Thrift is actually two stores side by side. There is the regular thrift store and a higher end boutique store next to it. Both sell gently used items donated by the community. The thrift store had an abundance of clothing for men, women, and children, accessories, household goods, faux florals, lamps, and books. Next door at the boutique you will find furniture, collectibles, name brand clothing and accessories, special occasion gowns, and a wedding dress corner. Russell Home is a worthy charity to support. Their legacy of supporting disabled children during a time when no one else was stepping up is remarkable. There is a varied inventory and prices are more than fair. All of the volunteers I spoke to were friendly and welcoming. Please consider supporting this worthy charity with your donations and funds. You just might find that one of a kind treasure.

The program was founded in 2011 by Aura Lynn who went to prison and had a change of heart. She became committed to helping women get out of the revolving door of incarceration in Seminole County. This ministry provides a holistic approach by helping women to get jobs, job training, and education. They also offer bridge housing and a food pantry. It was a pleasure to visit this large and inviting thrift store during a recent visit to Sanford. They had a selection of furniture, household goods, clothes, accessories, jewelry, shoes, small appliances, and children's toys and clothes. There is a boutique section and they also sell discounted items from the Publix bakery. In a backroom they have a treasure trove of items for one dollar. I had so much fun exploring this store and peeking around corners and opening cabinets to discover even more items. Different weekly sales are on the board out front. This is such a wonderful cause to support. If I lived locally this thrift store would be on my weekly rotation.

This is the only place where I was told to round up and spend my hard earned money because they didn't accept pennies. This business is 100% profit, telling me I need to spend more on top of what I am already spending is unethical. I put examples like Target and Chicfila where they accept the loss and round up on their end. When I went to shop, I found an item I would have to purchase and since no 'SOLD' signage was on the item, I proceeded to take the barcode to the register. Only to be told it was sold 10 minutes prior, but the only one who knew about it was the register attendee, not the manager. I do not understand how no one proceeded to immediately tag the item as 'SOLD' seeing as there are 5-7 employees on the floor at all times and 1 at the register. Overall, the prices are outrageous and the employees aren't much better. Again I have always shopped here but it truly has gone downhill over the past year.

Today, my family and I visited this location around 10:40-11:30 a.m. My mom found an IKEA dresser priced at $50, which seemed fair for its condition. It wasn't marked as sold, so we took the price tag to the register. We were then told it had already been sold. We were confused because there was no sold tag on the dresser, and we were literally holding the price tag. The cashier told the manager it had been sold. When my mom asked when it had sold, another employee, who didn't seem to know anything about the situation, claimed it had sold 10 minutes earlier and removed the item. We were all shocked. How can an item be sold without being marked as sold, especially when we had the price tag? We continued shopping, and I found a used pair of American Eagle jeans priced at $16.99. That's ridiculous. I can go to Bealls, Walmart, or TJ Maxx and buy a brand-new pair of jeans for around $14.99 that will last much longer. Since this Goodwill no longer has fitting rooms and doesn't offer refunds, there's no reason to take that risk. We found a few toys for my little sister and headed to checkout. It was the same cashier from earlier. She didn't greet us or offer any customer service. As I started counting my cash and coins, she told me I had to round my total from $0.59 to $0.60 because they don't accept pennies. I had the exact amount due, so I didn't understand why I was expected to pay more because of their policy. The entire time, she had an attitude simply because I was paying with cash. The cashier then called over the same manager from earlier. Instead of calmly explaining the company policy, he simply looked at us and said, "Over a penny?" My response was, "Yes, money is money." As we walked away frustrated, he sarcastically said, "Have a great day," and I repeated it back. I'm honestly disappointed by the poor customer service and management at this location. Between the confusion over the dresser, the inflated prices, the lack of fitting rooms, and the dismissive attitudes from the staff, this was one of the worst experiences we've had here. We won't be returning anytime soon. It was especially upsetting that my little sister had to witness the entire situation after being so excited about the toys she picked out.

My three stars reflects from seeing lots of stains on items, so I'm not sure why they would sell that? I pulled up out front and walked inside and was greeted almost immediately. I explained to the woman what I had And she had me pull around to the side of the building to make the donation. Everything went very smoothly and I was very happy with the experience. While I was inside the store I did see that they had a lot of merchandise for sale with some of it being brand new while other was clearly used. This place was small and had a bunch of things but not things that I could use. I'm not knocking it by any means! This place helps out many people who are in need of basics. I was just on a hunt for possible flooring and doors. (I had heard from friends that they found windows, doors and flooring left over from new builds. I just don't think they are at this location.) They do have doors, but as it was just me shopping, it was hard to mull through them in the warehouse as they were stacked and my back is roughed up from a wreck I was in a year ago. It was also pretty dark in that area and the floor was plywood and I just wanted to be careful where I was walking. They do have furniture, etc., and again, if you are in need, this place can help you out. A store with stuff…read more The Village Shoppe is a small thrift shop that is located on the Lutheran Haven Retirement Center. I suspect most of the stuff is donated and that the proceeds go the retirement home. The shop isn't large, just a couple of rooms but they also have plants and garden stuff outside. Certainly not a place to spend a whole lot of time browsing. The shop has a whole lot of different things stuffed away inside the rooms. Assorted gifts items, lots of greeting cards, clothing, jewelry and household things. Of course the plants are outside. We found some cool things including a nice compass still in the original package, some fun jewelry and a cool little trash can with fish and ocean creatures on it. Of course they are some religious pictures and items too. The prices were dirt cheap and the lady working here very pleasant. A cool little shop to find something unique. Plus you know your purchase will probably go to help some old Lutheran.

Nancy was great to work with, created a beautiful bouquet based on what I like and delivered the flowers in LESS THAN ONE HOUR! from the time I ordered them.
