Who doesn't love an Avalon Exchange?! I have been to a few different locations across America (one of my favorites being in Pittsburgh), but this one comes in close to first place. Every time I come in I'm sure to explore every single item, ensuring I don't miss something. This last time in I was trying to pass time before meeting a friend for dinner. When I got there it was pretty busy for an evening right before close, but I was still able to score big! I found a lululemon align dress (typically $100-$150) for 18.50!!!! I mean that is a steal of a deal! Avalon is a cute and trendy little consignment shop in Winter Park that has bright and fun decor. Usually, it has a vibrant vibe with its music playlists, and it typically receives a decent amount of foot traffic - especially on weekends. Some of the clothes are quite good for the price points, too, but it does get dicey. While I am a novice thrifter, I typically know a decent deal when I see one. And sometimes, Avalon gets it right, and sometimes they do not. I usually luck up in other consignments and second-hand shops more than I do at Avalon. However, I still patronize the store. Their process for selling is really not the greatest - which ultimately leaves me just fully donating my clothes to other consignment or giving them away to peers or the Salvation Army or selling to online consignment. I am usually left wondering how they even pick the clothes that they sell because it is not always clear. Some items they sell are just not worth the cost. Customer service is okay. I haven't had any negative interactions with the staff. Parking is not the best, but it tracks for the Winter Park area. Parking in the general area is always just a chore. Sometimes you luck up, and sometimes you have to figure it out. All in all, not a bad little spot to visit, but also don't make it the only stop you make. read more

It would seem my last review was over four years ago so we needed an update. The store has been refreshed and newly decorated with colorful, retro flowers and dangling mushroom lanterns. So adorable. It is still very open and bright inside which offers a pleasant shopping experience. I also love how everything is so clean and organized. I stick with my originally statement that Avalon is the hip little sister to Dechoes (another local consignment store with more mature/upscale pieces). I understand the aesthetic here and the style they like to buy. It's very much on brand with the younger crowd. I would say they have vintage/90s pieces and some newer styles. They have clothes for Men and Women. Going to other thrift stores you can hunt for these vintage pieces but it's much easier to find them sized and picked for you. I like that they are also size inclusive. I wear XL and they have lots of options. I ended up finding two adorable dresses today and they were reasonably priced. My husband has found a few vintage sports items like a Celtics Jersey. While the store is bright and colorful the employee demeanor is the exact opposite. I removed one star because while the employees clearly know the audience and buy items that sale fast... they are not friendly at all. They are family owned and operated and have locations in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Savannah, St. Louis, and here in Winter Park. Absolutely nothing wrong with that except that the day we went the clothes just seemed super worn, the kind I personally would throw out, but they're selling it for 12, and 16 bucks; ok. Then at the counter they had a nice variety of accessories and trinkets; the kind you get at Ali-Express for a buck a pack, but they were selling it for a buck a piece.. hmmm.. Additionally, I didn't feel welcomed in this store at all. The moment I stepped in I only got side eyes from the team that was working the front checkout. They either have really good days or really, really off days to where you question how they even pick these clothes to sell in the first place. The jewelry, although cute and trendy as well, are of TERRIBLE quality and gets dull and green within a wear or two. Not worth the cost. Customer service doesn't exist here. I've had multiple encounters and my friend all say the same, it's like a requirement to look miserable to work here. Despite the bright interior and fun decor, the employees make it so unwelcoming. Plus, parking sucks. There's only a few spots out the back and you can't even park in the front anymore. If there's no spots you have to parallel park nearby. I have visited many times here. Before I usually buy any new clothes in a store, I check this place first to see if I can find a nice dress or outfit here. I have bought two dress here. One was an Urban Outfitters dress that I remember seeing in the mall and it cost $16 here. I went to their dollar sale and bought a dress for $5. Sometimes you have to visit this a few times to see if there are any new stuff. Sometimes I am not successful in a visit and sometimes I am. My bf has came here for dropping off clothes. They can be picky on which outfit they pick for their inventory. He had some successes and fails. Sometimes the clothes they pick are questionable. I found some weird 80's or 90's cheap outfits that were too out there for anybody to buy so it may never be fair on what items they take or don't take. But you can't beat the prices and quality of some of these items. I found a Betsey Johnson bag for $30. I recommend to check out this thrift store even if you are not into shopping in those types of store. I do get compliments on some of my outfits. Their selection on clothes is up to par, you can find good Levi's there, Carhartt, Supreme, Nike, good sweatshirts, and dope jackets. the downside is you literally have to go every week to see if they have anything new. Prices can be taxed but it's a popular location, rent, etc etc. Staff is legit they're their own little cult. staff will also lowball on your pieces so be prepared. Okay, so Avalan Exchange has only been open since mid-August, just under 2 months, and I think I have been there about 5 or 6 times... to sell clothes... I have problems... Haha I have actually been slowly cleaning out my closet to be more minimal and since Plato's Closet is always fully stocked and extremely picky, I decided to bring my clothes to Avalon Exchange. I have been able to successfully sell a lot of my inventory to them and the staff there are extremely friendly - when they're not able to accept clothing, they don't make you feel bad about yourself or your clothing choices like they do at Plato's. They give you a fair price on your clothing and they have a similar buying model as Plato's and Dechoes Resale. Like most places, they offer you more in store credit than they offer in cash, which entices you to browse their racks... and it works. For every few articles of clothing I'm able to sell, I end up going home with at least one item... The store is well kept and clean and with the tall ceilings and big windows in the front and back of the store, you get to browse their racks in an open and light-filled space that makes shopping a little more comfortable. read more

This cool vintage shop has a good variety of modern and trendy items to buy. We've passed this place so many times and when we finally got in it was during their Dollar Sale. There was a line waiting out the door for opening hours. There must have been close to 50 people inside already and it was elbow to elbow just browsing the racks for the Dollar Sale. There was a bright orange tag for those items marked $1 or a orange marker on certain sticker tags. I scored some crazy deals that day. I even went back later that same day to take my niece and see what else they had put out. I spent a good $25 on name brand items, too. The shop has clothes, accessories and more for both guys and gals. All ages of shoppers are welcome and seen here anytime of the week. It's a cute place with a very hip vibe, usually playing all genres of 90's music. If you've got good condition garments, purses, and accessories to sell, you should bring them in. They post to their Instagram account often as to what is new in store and you can purchase them over the phone by credit card. If you change your mind when you go in to pick it up, you can return it if it's not what you thought it would be. The prices are just right. I didn't see any price tag that was outrageous. I would say prices are comparable to Plato's closet for the most part. However, I like how I can find really unique/vintage/eccentric items here vs at Plato's. I really enjoy the way the store is set up and the clean aesthetic appeal. I love all their sunglasses and the little enamel pins at the counter!! 4 Stars for a great resale spot for gals AND dudes that is big, bright, and clean. First thing to know is there's on street parking and also parking behind the shop. From there, you'll walk in and be hit with a flood of bright, natural light. This is like a thrifting experience for hipsters who have a little money (but not that Urban Outfitters money) and I'm straight up giddy about it. Racks on racks on racks of midrange cute outfits. I didn't notice any true luxury brands when I perused, but the prices ranged from $8-$20 on most items. And I'm not mad about that! The men's section had tons of Nike sneakers and what looked like pretty decently curated racks. The shoes lining the walls were all missing a pair (I assume they have the missing pairs behind the register to avoid theft?), but it's a bit odd because they aren't super high end. And this chick has a slightly bigger left foot, so I like to take a stroll around a rack to test them out before I buy a pair of shoes. The sunglasses were pretty 'meh' and felt like they bought a bunch of cheap plastic glasses and put them on display. But the jewelry and kickass patches and pins made up for this! Need a succulent pin for a friend? CHECK! Lastly, the fitting rooms were awesome. Clean, bright, modern, and nothing like what you would expect at a thrift shop. Kudos on a great aesthetic! I'm in spring cleaning mode and I've been here a few times to try to sell clothing that need a new home. The location is on a busy stretch of Orange Avenue so your options are off street parking but there are a few spots in the back if you can snatch them up! I was impressed by how huge this store is. It's clean and very neatly organized. If you're selling, head to the right hand side of the counter. You'll have to fill out a slip with your contact info and, if they're not backed up, you can kill time browsing while they go through your clothing to see if they can make an offer. They evaluate each piece for resale value and offer 30% of the retail store value in cash or 45% of the retail store value in store credit. It really is hit or miss but based on the items they sell, they take lots of retro/vintage/designer pieces. You can also get a good idea by browsing their instagram feed. Dig out those old concert tshirts! They're in high demand! Either way, this is a fun store to browse. They have racks and racks for women and even men. Everything is sized accordingly on the racks and not packed like crazy so you can browse through easily. I also like browsing the accessories and don't forget to check out the higher coveted items in the cases at the counter. Pricing is fair and I love that this is a more eco way to shop but you can still be fashionable. read more
