I paid this shop to…read moreupgrade the internals of engine heads with brand-new GSC components and to assemble them with new head gaskets and timing belt components. In the end, they couldn't successfully do the work I paid them to do. The car didn't even make it to 200 miles on the new engine build. It was just problem after problem. The first day I drove the car home from the shop, the car battery almost exploded on the way home. They overcharged it and couldn't accept full responsibility (AGM battery was only a year old). After ordering a new battery and installing it myself, I started the car and found coolant leaking from the bottom radiator hose, so I fixed that myself as well. After driving the car that day, I noticed the multiple random cylinder misfire CEL (P0300) came up. I also started to notice that the car stumbles in low RPM range, making it almost impossible to drive in heavy traffic or in a parking lot. It was an interesting problem where if you kept the RPM between 1k-2k and tried to hold it there, the RPM became unstable, and the CEL (P0300) came up. The car seemed fine at higher RPMs, but then, after further diagnosing, it turned out that the driver-side AVCS exhaust cam VVT values were erratic/unstable and not in sync with the passenger-side at any RPM range. At this point, I had zero confidence/trust in PII to do anything right. In the end, I decided to take my car to another shop to inspect and fix the incompetent mistakes made by PII. Turns out, PII completely trashed my heads and my brand new GSC cams to the point where I had to buy brand new head castings, brand new lifters, and another set of cams. They inspected the work and found multiple areas of improper assembly. The problematic driver-side exhaust cam was making a slight tapping sound at low RPMs, had low oil pressure around the cam, had unstable airflow, had significant wear on all cam journals and lobes, and the passenger-side exhaust cam did not spin freely. So many problems that would ultimately result in engine failure. I learned a lot during this process and was just amazed to see how badly a shop can screw up your car. I'm not sure why PII accepted this job in the first place since it seems like they can't handle this type of work. I feel as if I was scammed; that's how bad the work was. I would not recommend PII to anyone. The owner, Joel, doesn't accept responsibility for anything. After paying the new shop to redo the same work I paid PII to do, the car is finally back on the road and running without any issues. It was night-and-day difference in professionalism and competence compared between the two shops. It was an expensive lesson that cost me multiple thousands of dollars in damages.

Well to my surprise, the shop was opened but not really open if that makes sense due to it being a holiday. Jonathan wasn't there but Joe was. A really cool guy! Went inside and apologized but Joe asked what it was that I needed so i proceeded to tell him that I just needed an oil change. He tells me he can do it immediately so I went back home to grab my subaru impreza and headed back to the shop. Once I get there, around twenty minutes later... it was done. Super fast service, great technician, beautiful day... doesn't get any better than this! But wait, it gets better. Price was like half of subaru dealership! Joe, you rock dude! Thanks PII!

Make sure to watch them install your battery if you bring a car in there that you care about. You can very clearly see how nice my paint is but hairline scratches right where he stood to replace the battery. It might be nothing to the manager, but it's something to me. The sales person, Morgan was actually completely wowed by my car. Looks like I have some buffing to do. Edit: The company response is a lie. They never, NEVER offered any semblance of help. Just the opposite. The manager just kept repeating the lie that he couldn't possibly have scratched the car, again and again while ignoring me. He dismissed me at every turn, repeatedly. I'm even more disappointed now! I never even wanted anything from him, only wanted him to be more careful with customer's cars. I'm guessing the PR guy that wrote the response was also lied to by the manager. Sorry man.

We just don't find these rare cream puffs much anymore! After the head was taken off by a mechanic, he found out it had a cracked piston below that burnt valve. So, I did a ton of research, and where it used to be you could find machine shops all over the city - NOT ANY MORE! One place had a 9 month waiting list! Whoa! I finally found James, at Independent Cylinder Head. He could work on my engine in about 2 weeks! And the quoted price was really reasonable too!! Super nice and helpful on the phone, and after talking to him for a while, I find out he has tons of experience at other machine shops. He went out on his own, and is the owner of this shop. Great! I picked up my engine from the mechanics shop, loaded it into my pickup, and dropped it off for James to work on. We decided to not do a rebuild, with keeping old parts that were still good, but do a re-manufacture with all new parts. The only old parts were the block, the head, and the crank...only because it wasn't available brand new. My engine will be essentially brand new after he finishes!!! It didn't take long at all and I was over picking up my new engine! I dropped it off at my mechanic, and waited for him to get to it. Not getting into all of that wait - Phew! He finally got it done but the mechanic I had chosen, couldn't get it timed right, and wasn't patient enough to work through it! I would barely run...and I certainly couldn't drive it as it was. I was outta there. This mechanic had no affiliation with James at Independent Cylinder Head. Since he had been so helpful and kind, I called James and asked his opinion on what to do. He said he had a mechanic buddy, that he used to work with for a long time, that had his own shop. He'd call him for me and see if he could do my timing/tune up. He called back soon, and I was in to his buddies shop in 2 weeks! He had a couple of jobs ahead of me. I had my car towed to his shop. The day after I dropped it off to the new mechanic, two hours into the day, he called and said my car was all fixed and was running great and I could pick it up! WOW! James came through for me again! What a quick and good mechanic friend he had. I went to pick up my car in Milwaukie, OR and drove it home to Beaverton, OR without an issue! I was doing 60mph on Hwy 217, with my little 6 cylinder 235cu.in. without effort! It was purring like a kitten! Just like I wanted!!!! :) Little did I know, the mechanic called his friend James, after finishing my car, and told him how it was doing. Then, a day later, James called me to make sure everything had gone well with his recommended mechanic friend! That was a surprise! ... What a nice man James is to care so much about his customers to call and find out how satisfied I was with his recommended mechanic friend. I told him I was super happy with the mechanic, the speed he fixed it in, and the low cost, and how happy I was to hear from him (James). I don't care if you've called 50 machine shops across the country and found one you figure you'll use. STOP! Call James, and TAKE YOUR ENGINE TO HIM! We just don't get this type of incredible service that James supplies anymore! I would think I was back in the 1960's and he was right down my street and gave me the neighborhood friendly service or something! I highly suggest this very nice and dependable machine shop owned by James. I'm gonna be 69 years old in 2 months, and I'm telling ya, we just don't get this lucky very often anymore to find this exemplary service from shops! If anything, we hear about how so & so shop charged so much and didn't do a good job after paying that much! Not so with James! He takes me back to when incredible service was THE MOST IMPORTANT THING in doing a job for a customer. James is a one of a kind GEM!

I went the unconventional way and decided to try a different battery not sourced from Apple instead of having another battery issue again- and to think about it, the phone isn't even 3 years old yet. I also didn't want to waste my time and visit a busy Apple Store full of nerds and stuff. I dropped off my phone and picked it up 2hrs later. No issues. It was working as I had expected it to and the capacity went back to 100%. Of course there's the nag screen that the battery is non-OEM which I don't care about- just as long as it gives me enough charge to last more longer than it previously did. Only time will tell how this new battery will perform. Their work is also back with a 6 month guarantee in which anything happens to the phone due to battery issues, they will address it. Peace of mind. Since I wasn't able to leave my phone on the original Tuesday when I brought it in, I decided to come back Saturday so I wouldn't have to leave my phone at the store overnight. Really impressed with the outcome so far and on top of that, they gave me $10 off the install price.
