I had been a customer of Battery X-Change for over 30 years, which at one time also included a…read moresmall fleet of trucks. I have always been happy with their prices, their products, and their service until recently. One of the batteries that was purchased and installed by Battery X-Change on my diesel truck failed. The case expanded and the battery acid leaked causing damage to parts that came in contact with the corrosive battery acid. I was traveling on vacation at the time and had to buy two new batteries, as well as pay a dealer to replace a few parts that had been destroyed by the acid. I notified Battery X-Change and was assured by their VP that I would be reimbursed for my expenses. A long story short, I got home from vacation, submitted all the receipts and photos from the mishap and was told that they were going to submit it to their insurance carrier. This is a further indication that Battery X-Change had accepting responsibility. After more than 11 weeks their insurance carrier, The Hartford, denied the claim. I was given two reasons for the denial; the first reason was because I did not bring a toxic, leaking, potentially explosive defective battery home with me for them to inspect, (photos and statements were not enough). The second reason was that Battery X-Change did not manufacture the battery that failed... they only sold it. The Battery X-Change refused to reimburse me also. I was not surprised that The Hartford denied the claim, but I was surprised and disappointed that the Battery X-Change went back on their word to do the right thing.

After my car unexpectedly died over the weekend, I realized I was way overdue for a new battery, and initially thought to go to auto zone, but a friend said they'd overcharge me. So I went to this O'Reilly's because it was the closest to where I was that day. Dennis helped me find the battery I needed, gave me a discount through my company, and offered to install the battery. But it doesn't stop there. Upon taking my battery out he realized the issue was much more severe than I previously thought. My negative terminal had partially separated from the coils because it was so old (7+ years) and had been leaking a significant amount of battery acid...two inches of it to be exact was just sitting in the battery compartment. He could have sent me away, but he and Matt grabbed soda powder from the back and poured it all in the compartment to soak up the acid and then vacuumed it out. It took a significant amount of time that they didn't have to give me, but I was so incredibly grateful not just for Dennis's cleaning and installation of it but also taking the time to explain what was going on and what I should do in the future. They both were kind and did not talk down to me, as is common in the car-world to women, and this I almost appreciated more than anything. Matt even recommended a good mechanic to me who could take a good look at anything else that could have been affected. After Dennis was done soaking up and vacuuming up the acid, he installed the battery and sealed it with some grease, etc. I could not have had a better experience and will be driving out of my way (30+ minutes) from now on to visit this specific location next time I need something. It would not hold a charge and I had 3 mechanics tell me the battery was toast (and leaking) and that I needed a new one. I figured the warranty would still be an option so I brought it back to them only for them to say it just needed a 24 hour charge. They also told us that alternators don't charge the battery, which was one of the most stupid things I think I have ever heard. Honestly, I don't think you should be working at a battery shop if you don't know what the alternator does. Ultimately, I ended up having to buy a new battery from Costco because my car needed to be moved and they would not honor my warranty to give me a new one. I am now down $160 because of my new battery, have my toasted battery that supposedly charged "just fine" and "isn't leaking at all!" and shit out of luck. Again, I would not recommend getting a battery from a place that doesn't even know what an alternator does for your battery/car.

The staff at NW Battery couldn't have been more helpful. They ran tests to see how much of a charge my battery would take, and ultimately gave me a loaner while they put my battery on a more industrial strength charger overnight. I'm happy to say that they fixed my problem, and that they stand behind their products.
