I've been coming to The Bake Shoppe for 20 years and it never disappoints. Seriously, everything is…read moreamazing. It's a family-owned and operated business, and I love that it's been passed down from generation to generation. You can really feel the care they put into everything. The service is amazing, and I absolutely love the ladies that always take care of me. The ambience is great too -- it's usually quiet and never really packed (except maybe on Paczki Day, and that's about it ). Their puffs are so good, and their donuts are beyond amazing -- the dough is seriously like no other. They recently made peanut butter & jelly brownies and they are phenomenal. I really hope they keep those around as a weekly (or everyday!) special because they're that good. Their cannolis are amazing, cookies are great, and the turnovers are so good too. The caramel apple danishes are to die for, and the banana caramel cream pies are delicious. The mini cheesecakes are amazing too. They also make pepperoni rolls stuffed with cheese, sauce, and pepperoni and OMG they are so good. Their Cajun homemade bread is amazing too. I honestly can't say enough good things -- I've loved this place for years and I'll keep coming back!

They have beautiful cakes in a display to choose from. They taste as good as they look. A very friendly & informative staff. I would highly recommend the scenic drive to this hidden gem of baked goods. Did I mention breads & angel wings too.

Well this is embarrassing. It took a friend visiting from out of town to learn that Bird Dog Baking…read morehad a permanent home on a prominent corner of Ypsi... for years. Even worse, it's amazing. And I'm not one to gush over bakeries. And this bakery does it all. Naturally leavened breads, sweet pastries, savory baked goods, and great coffee all in a clean, well lit, charming, and friendly space. While I have had BDB's rye teacake at Argus in the past, I had not delved deeply into their full line of products. This changed last week when I popped in and fell in love with their buckwheat financier, spelt scone with braised collards, cheddar, and bacon, and their Ypsi sour loaf. Here's the bottom line: the flavors and textures are just freaking fabulous. Across the board. Financiers, scones, and bread all share the same praise. Remarkable crunchy crusts, juxtaposed with tender interiors, and flavor that just goes on and on. Brand new fan. Well worth the drive out to Ypsi. I think I found my new favorite hangout with those big big windows, easy weekday parking, and free wifi. My hope is to get there early enough sometime to get a hot baguette out of the oven, or some other loaf when it is still warm. Hot bread and good butter is the best food combination on Earth. I'm ready to throw down in defense of those words. I suspect when I get that timing figured out, Bird Dog Baking might be able to squeeze its way into the top spot of my greatest culinary experience of all time. But I'm a simple man, with simple tastes... even if I have almost impossibly high standards. Oh yeah, they also are seriously into local grains, using a wide variety of lesser known grains, and all kinds of other super cool and nerdy food stuff. But you don't have to know any of that to fall in love with the spot and the culinary team behind it. Just go, eat, and enjoy.

I got a caramel einspanner, sausage and egg burrito, and chocolate chunk cookie. The cookie tasted exactly how I like them: thick, rich, and full of chocolate forward bites and Everything was so flavorful and delicious. No wonder even if other places come and go, this continues to be a winner. Visiting them today, told me not to even entertain other places because this is the real deal.

I had a very disappointing experience today with the acting manager, Jaylyn. She was incredibly…read morerude and unprofessional in the way she spoke to me, and unfortunately, it didn't stop there. While addressing a situation with one of her employees, she spoke to her in a harsh, condescending tone. The issue at hand was that important information hadn't been relayed to the employee, yet Jaylyn chose to blame her rather than take responsibility for not communicating it properly in the first place. It's frustrating to see a manager treat both customers and staff this way. If there are communication breakdowns, the focus should be on improving the flow of information, not attacking those affected by it!!! I also wanted to shout out Aubrey, she was so polite to me the entire time I was in the bulding (unlike the acting manager). She made me feel so welcomed and it was really having such a kind employee there!
