I've come here a few times for dinner not wanting to cook or because no food/ran out of meal prep. Always walked out feeling good, never had a bad meal. Had a few wraps, a steak sandwich, burger and probably a few other things. Drinks are reasonably priced, I had a gentleman jack on the rocks for under $10 hell yeah. Staff is very friendly, one time there was a magician I just didn't make eye contact cause I didn't want to be bothered. Feel like the place gets a lot of regulars but welcoming of others. read more

There's nothing particularly special about O'Donovan's. I was there on a Tuesday night when tons of softball teams showed up for post-game beer. Service was slow and sporadic, but understandable given the crowd. Their chicken wings were dry, so I'd avoid those. But we also ordered their enormous pretzel and that was great. It's maybe 16" wide and really soft. It comes with three different mustards for dunking. If you're in the neighborhood, you could probably do worse than O'Donovan's. I always wanted an awesome bar to be a hangout for my friends like how they do in "How I Met Your Mother". I think my friend Roberto found that spot for us at O'Donovan's! I have been here on two different nights of the week and I must say I was blown away by their excellent service and awesome specials! Monday I believe was a special for burgers. Ample serving on the size of the burger! And, they have turkey burgers! Loooove it. And, Wednesday was taco night! $2 tacos! I must say between the chicken and the steak, steak tacos were a winner. Also, if you wanted to make it a platter with guac, salad, and chips it's like $7.95. Superb! Also, they have margarita pitchers for $16 a pop. Annnnnd $8 coors light pitchers. After looking for a brunch with bottomless mimosas my friends and I decided on this place because brunch time was ending soon. There were no pictures of the food so we were hesitant to go but brunch time was ending and the Bears game was on so we headed here and wow the buffet was extremely good and there were so many options. The waitress who we had was great and kept the mimosas flowing! There was pastas, meat, waffles, French toast, chicken, omlettes made to order, CHEESY TOTS omg the cheesy tots were amazing! If you are looking for a brunch place look no further just come here already and quit wasting your time looking on yelp or online. read more

Great beer garden atmosphere! Parking lot was small but super easy street parking was readily available. The famous "james bomb" shot was the most non alcoholic shot I ever had it was like pure fruit punch, I do not recommend it at all! They had easy access to outlets so I was able to charge my phone! Very sweet margarita again tasted like a childs beverage, I had to add an additional shot (and I am not a drinker). Their dinner specials are great deals and they have tots! read more

I saw this bar come up when I searched for Notre Dame bars but when we arrived for the game they were clearly an Ohio State bar, they never even put the sound on for the Notre Dame game. The first hour or so we were there the service was slow and inattentive. Once the tables around us cleared out our waitress checked on us every few minutes and we felt pressured to keep ordering. Then when our third showed up it was a struggle to get anyone's attention again. The giant pretzel is amazing, but the rest of the food was poor in quality and the drinks were weak on liquor and strong on acidic flavors. There was also a magician walking around offering his services. He didn't pester us, just offered once, but it was peculiar, I've never run into that before. read more

One thing I truly enjoy is the comfortable atmosphere, I hate those hole in the wall spots that look trashy. But this place is fantastic. I love the customer service. I love the menu and the variety of drinks. One morning, my gf and I were looking for a spot to eat and also bring the dog along for the ride. The outside patio is just fine for the job. They supplied the dog with water and he felt comfortable as well (hence the photo) I think this place is a great spot. Highly recommended. read more

I had only been here for brunch, which us excellent, but had dinner and think I enjoyed it as much or even more. I had a turkey burger that had blue cheese chipotle mayo and red leaf lettuce that was very tasty! My partner had carne asada tacos that were very good! The steak was perfectly done and great flavor. Not at all impressed. The host/server had an absolutely horrible attitude. Sunday 11/27 noon. Ask for a group of 8 and was told to go to the back and find a couple of tables ourselves. She didn't know if they could put us together, didn't even try so we did it ourselves. Food was not very good and since gratuity was automatically added service was minimal from the same snotty host who just completely dismissed me when I told her our name for others that would be looking for us in the back. And by the way- if by chance your little snotty self ever reads (or helpfully the owner) your reviews- O'Donovans was previously a German restaurant called Schulien's. You most certainly are not as smart as you think and will definitely be the reason we do not to come back. read more

Really good brunch spot. Around $25 gets you the buffet with endless mimosas. I went the day after St Patrick's Day so they had Bailey's waffle batter along with plain and pumpkin. Server brings you a paper that you check off what you want in your omelette and what kind of eggs you want. Not a big place but plenty of variety. Beer garden is nice but the music is loud, making it to that point that you'd all have to talk louder just to have a conversation. Great place to end your week read more

This place was a TOTAL disaster on a recent Sunday afternoon. We received the wrong drinks, lunch entrees never came, and when the appetizers arrived we were given NO silverware. It's bad when you have to close out your tab because the service is horrific. They may want to spend less time slinging drinks and focus on properly serving actual food to their customers and getting the orders right. What a concept! It was a total shit show. read more

O'Donovan's has always been one of my favorite places in Chicago but no longer. It took 45 minutes to get my first drink there yesterday and another 45 minutes to order my food. It was almost 2 hours before we got our food and probably another 30 minutes before I got my second drink. I consider myself a patient person and I don't mind pitching in but waiting that long to eat was simply ridiculous. We couldn't get water and barely saw our server. I understand every place is understaffed now but how about open less tables, give us a discount on the bill, a free round of drinks, etc. Where was the manager? I was part angry and part disappointed when I left. A large patio and lots of tvs mean nothing if all else fails. The next time I will go to Wild Goose or The Daily. read more

Totally unexpected! I did not know what to expect from this spot when I went there to watch the Hawks play in an effort to find a spot where I could actually eat, and not watch the game while surrounded by hundreds trying to crowd me out for my spot... My friend picked the spot, and considering the normal spots we end up visiting...I was anticipating dark lighting, grungy seats and extremely loud music (oh, and no identifiable beers on tap). Therefore, I was shocked and pleased when I entered O'Donovan's and have been back for food and drinks on more than one occasion. First of all, the beer on tap - Excellent! I can get my Harp (or a variety of other delicious brews) and a delectable burger...or wrap...or sandwich, soup, etc. Everything I've tried has been delicious and above standard bar-fare. This is also a great spot to watch a game. There is an ample assortment of high-top tables, bar seats, seating for dinner, outdoor space in the summer. I've never felt crammed into the area - even when it's relatively crowded. The room isn't too dark (like it's neighbor - the Globe), but is pleasant. The crowd is a mix of families, singles, couples - everyone. The service is excellent - both at the bar and at tables. I also enjoy that they are seemingly a sports bar/restaurant, but it's clean! I like this place for the atmosphere and the staff. I ordered the Asian chicken salad and I was not impressed. It's $16 for this salad and I expect a fairly large salad for that price. It's not a large salad at all. The salad had very little salad dressing on it. So I asked for more dressing on the side. I am not sure if it was the right dressing but I put in on the salad since it needed flavor. Even with more dressing the salad and chicken had no flavor. I thought while eating this salad I was coming down with Covid and loosing my taste?? No Covid !! Salad has no flavor. Thought I was getting a healthy alternative and never realized I would have to sacrifice flavor. I will not be ordering that again. We have had great service when there!!! read more

Oh My Bloody! They sure do know how to make one tasty Bloody Mary here at O'Donovan's! Nice, big TVs, yummy turkey burger sliders, and some solid apps made our most recent Sunday Funday outing a success. The Bloody Mary even comes with a beer chaser! I had never heard of this and thought my boyfriend had ordered some sort of bomb shot, but our waitress informed us it was just Miller Lite. Different, but I like it. I could use a little extra spice kick and a couple extra pieces of skewered sausage in my bloody, and a little more pulled pork on my nachos but I enjoyed them all the same. They have a large buffet on Sundays and you can't order off their regular menu until 2pm, which was a small downside for us since we weren't feeling all buffet-y. I'd give them 3 1/2 stars if I could, I'm sure we'll be return patrons! read more

$5 mimosas on saturday and a big patio, can't go wrong! O'Donovan's is a great place to hang out and grab some drinks and food. They always have specials going on and their prices are awesome! For the most part the food is good, it can be kind of hit or miss. I like the fish tacos and potstickers, but would avoid the ribs (I did only try them once). The drinks (Mudslides are really good) are always great as well as the staff. Never had bad service yet. The place is huge so finding a seat is almost never a problem. They also have a huge patio which really nice for game days. Lot of TVs too. You can enjoy the nice weather, a beer and the game! They even close the patio off in the winter so you still hang out there! They are an Ohio State bar so it does get busy on those games days. If you want a seat on the patio get there early. read more

So I've lived in this neighborhood a few years. When I first moved here, O'Donovan's was the kind of place just to go to for their specials and outdoor space, and after a while I stopped visiting. Now I'm back and I don't know if management changed or the chef or what, but this place is amazing. Food is great - I'm particularly obsessed with the french fries and pear and gorgonzola salad with chicken (a huge portion of chicken, by the way). They put money and care into their outdoor patio, and it looks great. And everyone is so nice and super accommodating to kids the few times I've been there with my nephews and nieces. And dogs are allowed on their side patio! Annnnd you can't beat the all-you-can eat brunch. read more

Went here after it opened back up from Covid. The outdoor space is good, but they make you go up to the bar to order drinks and food. This annoying process messed up the social distancing by having a lot of people standing around, particularly near certain tables that were too close to the bar. They just need waiter service which would make it a bit safer. The food was mediocre as was the service. They also have one food runner with a ZZ top length beard. He had a mask on but his huge beard stuck out. Unfortunately he was not wearing a beard net and I don't think it is possible that he wasn't getting beard hairs in people's food. Sorry but that is gross and he should have on a beard net. Seems obvious, particularly if you had a visual of this dude. read more

What a disappointment our visit was today. We have been customers for 20+ years?!!! Today while with our kids, your team selected completely inappropriate music choices. We sat outside patio and there was only about 3 -4 tables with customers (2 of which had kids). Yet, they proceeded to play songs with "eat your pussy"lyrics. Honestly, know your audience!!! I immediately noticed the elderly 2 tables left. O'Donovan's, while a bar has always been a family friendly environment. I guess no longer.... I just needed to share this because I was highly disappointed with environment. The owner was also there and did nothing! I will also like to add that paying $17 for 10 dry/small wings is a rip off! A great neighborhood spot with lots of tables for families beyond the long, classic Chicago wooden bar. Food is always solid, from sliders for the kids to very tasty Cobb salads. One of the bigger neighborhoods places that has lots of room for the adults to drink along with a balloon maker and card trick magician walking around for the kids. Very large menu has something for everyone. Hummus appetizers, great burgers, flatbreads and salads. read more

I've only been here for events, but they can enclose the back section for private parties with your own bar/bathroom with plenty of seating. It's a good space and their food/drinks have always been decent. If you're doing an event near christmas though, they really go all out and decorate this place (think really colorful... some might say tacky) so if that's not your jam or your party isn't christmas related, maybe find some place else! You'd have to find street parking, but there's always a ton of spots open and you'll most likely end up ubering here anyway! read more

WORST THING EVER - RUN AWAY I was fooled into buying tickets for the Saint Patrick's day and on the website it showed a very happening place, full of people dancing, drinking, etc. This place is a complete DISASTER. Just think of something bored and dead, then multiply that by 10. Their Saint Patricks day had around 30 people max all looking sad and disappointed as place was nearly empty. Love this joint!! Been coming here since I was in college, and it just happens to be a favorite amongst many other Irish bars in town. Went there on Taco Tuesday and it was phenomenal.
