I've been going to O'Connor's for probably about 35 years. I understand that they have recently had a change in management. I was pleased to find that the service and food remain top-notch. Recently went to O'Connor's for dinner. It left a lot to be desired. Chicken Wellington was dry, mashed potatoes were dry bordering on hard, gravy was thick, flavorless and glutenous. Our waitress was mostly absent. We didn't get our rolls til entre was almost finished. She never came to ask if our meal arrived alright - standard waitressing. What could improve? Everything that's been previously reported in Yelp reviews: Management needs an overhaul at this point because: - tables aren't consistently clean when you sit down - food quality is subpar & often served cool/cold - drinks are watered down - service isn't timely, and it's next to impossible to locate your server - no one checks back to see if you like your meal or if you need anything else - music is so loud, conversations are difficult at best - a 35 minute wait for a bill is ridiculous. These are management's problems to repair. Several months back, when the restaurant stated (via FB) they'd be hosting only private parties, the public was concerned. With no information, the assumption was O'Connor's was closing for good. One of the owners posted a less than gracious reply & included the term "fake news". While they did reopen for business, I've had no desire to return. This is quite unfortunate for Central MA, as O'Connor's was an outstanding restaurant & what we remember is sorely missed. read more

Full disclosure, I knew the former owners fairly well. This was always a special place to go not because it was fancy, but because it wasn't necessarily nearby to us. The food was always comforting as was the atmosphere. I see some mixed reviews with the new owners but I think if there's any brand that can pull it together, it's what O'Connors has cultivated. read more

O'Connors has been around for decades, but this is the first time in a few decades we've come back and we brought our teenage sons with us for a late lunch. There is real Irish food on this menu that will not disappoint. I ordered Reuben that was one of the best I've ever had. The meet was tender and not fatty. I ordered it with a side of coleslaw that wasn't soggy and was very tasty. The kids got turkey clubs which they devoured. Our waitress was pleasant and quick and brought us refills without even having to ask for them! The kids got a kick out of the Irish music playing. You really feel like you take a step into a pub in Ireland when you come here. Oh O'Connor's how we miss ye. The new owners are struggling to get this institution back to its once glory days. We've had a mixed bag of service, we went on New Years Eve and everything was great-- we went another time and our waitress seemed like she was traveling around some Universe only she could see-- and I'm not kidding we had to ask if she was okay at one point and she rejoined our world. I used to say I'd kill a man for their Baked Haddock, now I'd be doing time for no good reason. It's not as fresh, and it's nowhere near it's old self. Staple items like the Scotch Egg are still done well, but we were told the old chef was coming back, but until they can do something with the new staff I fear we're going to be dealing with cold food and worse, sometimes not fresh food. We're going to keep going back in the hopes it gets better, but our patience and our wallets can only go so far. read more

Our final destination was a Wachusett Reservoir hike, and we planned to stop for an early lunch along the way. Lou Roc's Diner had great reviews so we'd stop there first. Unfortunately Lou Roc's Diner was closed, even though it said open on Yelp, Google and their website. So, we turned around and drive to O'Connor's Restaurant & Bar, just a couple of minutes away. O'Connor's is a really large place, with a large patio. We opted for the outside seating selecting a shadier table. Out waitress arrived quickly and we ordered: Red Reuben Rye Sandwich with Cole Slaw: $14.99 The 1/2 Pound Angus Burger with cheese & Fries: $15.99 Iced Tea: $3.25 The cheeseburger was cooked nicely rare and it was tasty, though not as juicy as we like, with too much bun for the burger. The Reuben was very good, and the side of Cole Slaw was also good. I'd be happy to order this again. The fries were excellent, hot, crispy and not overly salted. I'm from out of town bout an hour away and just reading the many previous reviews where the new restaurant/owners are criticized for not being the old. Well folks, everything is constantly changing esp in the restaurant industry. It's not my first rodeo eating at the bar so I feel confident in my first impression. First off the place is very big, the parking lot is very big so I can see why it may look less than full majority of the time. Can't imagine what it costs to heat and cool the place. I stopped in on a Wednesday 4pm ish and yes it was relatively quiet w/ a business party in the back. In my experience restaurants this large tend to pay the bills with events so I hope people take it into account. By the time I left the main sitting area was pleasantly full with indistinct chatter and some laughing. Warm and cozy tbh. In my short stay here, I will def come back. I'm a person who likes to sit at the bar or near the bar. Ambience is great, music was just right while I was there, beer selection is solid. I don't do mixed drinks so I can't speak to that. The 2 bartenders were very nice and personable and had a handle on both serving food and tending bar. I had that frickin Guinness pie, granted I was very hungry but wow it was everything I'd hoped! I usually don't eat like that at the bar but I saw the video I'm sure you all saw and it was spot on. I'll be back for chicken pot pie next. Bangers and mash was a special so that could potentially be #3. Regardless there were many items on the menu I'd like to try. Conveniently located right off the highway. At the risk of offending people reading this I have one comment to the dining community... If you want good service and good people serving you then you need to tip above the taxes 20%.... Herein lies the problem with O'Connor's..if you had never been in the past, you might settle for the mediocre food and service. (Nothing comes out hot, so rest easy that you won't burn your mouth.) However, if you'd visited under the original ownership, you'd recall world class service, great music, engaged owners and terrific tasting entrees. You could have eaten off the floors back then, but today it looks like someone may have tried to do just that. First of all, I am a long time patron of this establishment. I have been a weekly visitor for over 10 years. I feel very comfortable and confident in providing a review of both before and after the change of ownership. Food - I can honestly say that the quality of food remains the same, probably because the before and after chef remains the same. As a result, consistency has not been an issue. Personnel - Yes, while there have been many changes in the server and bar tending areas, the new personnel have filled those changes with positive energy and welcoming ways. The bar staff are extremely nice and attentive. Cost - Changes in this area are more reflective of post covid economical conditions and not due to a change of ownership. Cleanliness - For a restaurant that serves hundreds of patrons in a very short period of time, the place remains spotless. Saturday we met our daughter and son-in-law here for lunch and to catch up. Worcester is the halfway point for us as we live in CT and they are in NH. We were seated promptly and our server arrived quickly (I think her name was Megan). We placed our drink order after tasting a couple options. The restaurant is very clean and the tables are spaced nicely so it is easy to talk. The "kids" brought us a gift so we opened it to discover they are having a baby. Wow! Our first grandchild. Poor Megan, we sat at her table about two hours catching up and celebrating. The food was very tasty, I had the chicken schnitzel (stuffed), our son in law had the shepherd's pie and my husband had a steak puffed pastry dish. Courtney wasn't very hungry so she just had soup. Ate here several months ago, Food took a very long time to come out, tasted ok. Biggest complaint was my sister got handed a take out box with a cockroach in it! She told the waiter who apologized and he said hold on I'll tell the manager, we waited and no one ever came by or said anything to us! The good: food was tasty. We started with French Inion Soup. It was flavorful, with plenty of cheese. The croutons was a bit small and the cheese wasn't crusty but it was enjoyable. My friend had the beef tips - Montreal style. I had the Beef Wellngton. The bad: I compared our server to another working in the restaurant. While he was taking good care of his guests, our server seemed to be confused about her job. We had to ask for everything, drink refills, sweetener, even bread. And occasionally more than once because she apparently forgot. Also, even though there were few people in the restaurant, the service was rather slow. Needs improvement. Food good. We were looking for a place for "real" food after a long day at work. We decided to try O'Connors based on a picture of their Shepards Pie on Yelp. Once there, we couldn't decide which ones we would try this visit and which we would have next time (there will definitely be a next time!). We chose the Corned Beef Shillelagh Sticks, Prime Rib and the Chicken Pot Pie. The food was FANTASTIC!!! The ambience was great! And the staff was top notch; friendly, competent and attentive! There are not too many British style pubs in Massachusetts ... or New England, for that matter. Maybe some leftover hatred from the Revolution? I realize Irish Pubs are not British pubs but they are closer than anything else you'll find. So, I do love the atmosphere in O'Connor's which is huge inside and separated into different rooms. We prefer to sit on the bar side. Obviously due to covid, the bar is closed but they pushed two top tables up against it where folks could sit. I would not recommend getting one of these tables and instead would request a booth as anyone who walks to the restroom will walk 3 feet back and forth past your table. The rooms are decorated very pubby with pictures framed on the wall with clever sayings and random photos. The furniture and bar feels like an authentic European Pub. The only thing that sort of kills the mood are the 'touristy' Irish music soundtracks that are played which make you feel as though you are in Disneyworld. The food here is top notch. You won't get too many healthy dishes here. Vegetarians will sweat the menu probably opting for a salad. The salads are kind of ho hum. If you are really hungry, the steak pie, chicken pot pie and shepard's pie (its actually a cottage pie made with hamburger) are ridiculously big. Easily sharable for two people (but there may be an added charge for this) ... the oddest thing is that it comes with a side of mashed potatoes, as if a pie the size of a basketball isn't enough. They taste homemade and delicious. I had their Scotch Egg, which I know of only 3 restaurants in MA that serve. Its a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage, fried and then served with mustard dipping sauce. O'Connor's takes the lazy way and puts the egg in already hard boiled. In Europe, they put in a soft boiled egg which is a bit runnier and less like eating a soft golf ball wrapped in fried sausage. It's also served with honey mustard dressing for dipping vs. the traditional Coleman's spicy mustard. Tsk tsk ... but because they even offer it, O always get one. I had the turkey dinner which was phenomenal! White and dark freshly carved meat ... maybe a little on the dry side but we came at 8 p.m. It is served with homemade cranberry and bread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy and a mountain of icky sweet squash which looks more like applesauce. I love turkey dinner at restaurants and this is usually as good as you'll find. My date got the grilled porkchop. It says stuffed but it actually was a thick porkchop cooked through and served on top of the sweet cranberry and bread stuffing that came with the turkey. It also came with the most amazing cheddar and bacon twice baked mashed potatoes. These were the best thing of the night. The best thing of all ... both entrees were around $16! The beer list is great ... a few Irish beers, a cider and Old Speckled Hen on draft!! One of my favorite English beers with a big, creamy head. They come in 16 or proper 20 oz. pints! You can also get a beer flight. They'll also make you a black velvet (Guinness and champagne ... aka: headache juice) or a Bumblebee (Lager and Cider mixed) just like you'd find in Europe. Overall ... lots of locals here and it's normally packed! Even during Covid, it was packed, although there are more "Covid-is-not-real" conspiracy theorists in the Worcester area than you'd find elsewhere, so I have noticed that the restaurants aren't as empty in Worcester and surrounding towns. However, we felt safe-ish here ... and not just because there were 2 traditional white haired Irish priests sitting two booths down from us having dinner ... the distancing is pretty good because of the large size of this place. And though they still use communal condiments, salt shakers and communal menus in the little faux-leather binders, we felt that you could come here and be safe. This is one of those places you won't regret coming to. Most things on the menu are good ... and it's all pretty much true pubby comfort foods. Don't come near this place on St. Patrick's Day. They say the line is longer than almost any other restaurant in MA on March 17th. read more

A true Irish restaurant and pub and delicious every time! I had to have the corned beef and cabbage in honor of St Patrick's Day and wasn't disappointed. The fresh Guinness went super with it as well and we started off with the giant pretzel and sauces. The potions are generous so come hungry!! The mashed potatoes are a favorite too. Had a terrible experience on St. Paddy's evening. The restaurant wasn't busy at 8pm and we were seated immediately. There were 4 of us just wanting a few drinks, apps. and dinner to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but our time was ruined with slow service. We waited almost 30 minutes just to order drinks and apps. Then we were told the kitchen closed and we couldn't order our dinners. Luckily, we had a competent waiter come over and we explained how we just waited for 30 minutes to order drinks and apps. And we were still waiting to order dinner. Luckily, this waiter went the extra mile to ensure we received our dinners, but once we received the food, the quality was horrible and we'll never eat at this restaurant again. It's unfortunate because we've dined here in the past with no issues and have enjoyed the atmosphere. I'm giving this review 2 stars bc the service and food quality were so bad. UPDATE: Omgosh, it was so wonderful to be back inside O'Connor's Restaurant again! They presently have outside seating available and they have rearranged tables inside to meet social distancing requirements. My partner and mom ordered baked scallop dinners and I ordered the Baked Scrod, we also got a large order of sheleighly sticks. It was a very hot day so I ordered a frozen mudslide (actually I had 2 of them and my partner tried it and ordered one too). We were all happy with our selections. We hadn't been here in years and recently decided it was time for a visit. It has definitely become one of our favorites now. We went on an early Saturday afternoon so we could beat 'the crowd' and we were surprised when we pulled up and the parking lot was packed. We went in and were seated right away. It looked like there was a few private parties going on as we seen people with presents and/or balloons, it's obviously a popular event restaurant. My partner ordered the Portuguese Seafood Stew and I ordered the Guinness Beef Pie. We ordered the sheleighly sticks for an appetizer. The sheleighly sticks were pieces of corn beef wrapped in puff pastry and were amazing!!!! My partners Portuguese Stew was huge and he loved it. It was a mixture of seafood with chourico which gave it a little spice. My Guinness Beef Pie was HUGE!!! Bigger than my hand!!! Filled with lots of beef and some carrots (mostly beef) with a delicious flaky crust. I could only eat half of it!!! The total for our meal including one beer, water and coffee was $52.57!! Not that this restaurant needs any more positive vibe than it already has, but this is the third time I have been there and each time I think it actually gets better! Absolutely fabulous Irish food, with a serious sense of being in Ireland. I couldn't decide between the pot pie or the Guinness pie so I chose the Guinness upon the recommendation of our awesome server.
