This women is legit crazy. I went here like almost 10 years ago and me and my family joke about how crazy this person was. It's too bad because Paul at the desk is a Gem. But then it makes you question what such a Gem is doing with such a hack. Call in, there's a huge pause, before the machine answers. Too long, you think it didn't patch through. We are told the doctor is available to text anytime of day, but is never at the office at the time she's supposed to be anyhow. I know this due to the 3 appointments in- and the first one was booked at the same time as a family of 5. So I let them have the appointment since they were waiting in front of a closed office for a bit. 2nd appointment was for my daughter and they couldn't "find it" so we made a 3rd attempt, as Paul the receptionist really wanted to help us. He completely tries to hold down the fort. My daughter was told to come in at 3. But didn't get to see the doctor for 2 1/2 hours, because supposedly that's how long she takes on patients. Really it's because she loves the sound of her own voice so much. My daughter who in between having to listen to this doctor talk and talk and talk and talk and talk finally asks how much it is to get a contact lens prescription. Her insurance pays for the appointment and glasses only. The doctor tells her it is $225. So my daughter politely says no. She doesn't have the money. And the doctor INSISTS that she can pay $125 for TODAY. My daughter politely says no again. By now it's even later in the day. She finally gets to my daughter's prescription. Shows her TWO pairs of glasses which she insists are her only choice. But my daughter doesn't like any of them. The doctor still insists that she HAS TO PICK. My daughter makes an excuse to "come back later" But really just wants to get out of there. TWO PAIRS TO PICK FROM?! Why? because she's on the Fidelis Vision Plan? To top it all off- taking pictures of my daughters hair and asking for free dessert from where she works? And the very weird text messages! We will never go back to that office. Very unprofessional! Not showing up for an appointment and then no apology or explanation. I made an appointment on line. It was confirmed 3 times, once by e-mail and twice by text (one time was earlier in the day of the appointment). When I arrived, no one was there. I called the contact number got voicemail and the message said you could also text. I texted and got a message back saying "This is Dr. Morgenstern. Paul was supposed to call you regarding your appointment. One of us will call you back". It is now the next day and that text is the only information I have received to date. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Zero stars! She had my daughter and I pick out frames from HER selection on Sept 7th. She told us it would take about a week and a half for my daughter's glasses to come in. I paid out of pocket after insurance $62.00 for frames and an upsell of some glare scratch coating stuff that she said we absolutely need. On october 3rd I was calling looking to pick up. She told me she couldn't remember what we did? Gave me another phone number of hers to txt. I did txt and she still didn't answer, nor ever answered again. I have all screenshots of my calls. I then call my vision insurance company after she still didn't respond. They told me she had not submitted the frames to them AND it said patient submitted their own frames to her. That is NOT TRUE! We picked them from HER selection. This was my daughter's first eye exam in life at 16yrs old. How would we have known that she would even need glasses in the first place, before having the eye exam, in order to bring in our own frames ahead of time?? We aren't psychic. The eye exam took her 3 freaking hours to administer because she did lots and lots of talking about nonsense not eye care related, all personal stuff which ranged from and included her telling my daughter that she had a nice butt, where did she buy her leggings from and how her sister has deterred her from wearing them over the years with negatively rude comments that I won't post the specific details of which she said to us and about her overall personal relationship with her sister. My daughter and I had to reassure and comfort her... Awkward situation! Her exam room is dusty, messy, cluttered, numerous old broken eyeglass display cases and large eyeglass carrousels tobbled over on each other with just stuff on top of stuff everywhere-all thick of dust. Isn't dust not good for your eyes?? I do not know what possessed me to stay and endure this place, her erratic behavior and then to not even receive my daughter's glasses after putting up with all that! Eventually took my daughter to another eye doctor and told him what happened. He KNEW whom I was speaking of without me saying her name or location. He said he's had a good number of people come to him after dealing with her. I'm going to report our experience with the state, and/or whomever that oversees optometrists. I made an appointment for 6:00pm on a Friday, I showed up at 5:45pm only to find the business closed, I waited until 6:15pm and no one ever came. I texted the Dr and received a message back at 6:30pm stating I need to confirm my appointment. I received an email confirmation already so this was confusing. Only later did I find out this Dr is notorious for not showing up for appointments. Save yourself the time and find a reliable doctor! read more

I will start off by saying when anyone tries to touch my face, or go anywhere near my eyes, I panic. Dr. M was so professional and I didn't feel anxious about my face being touched once. I was nervous that I would be pressured to buy frames or packages that I didn't need, and she wasn't pushy. She informed me of what I could buy and how much it cost, and when I asked for a cheaper package, she did not argue with me at all. She helped me pick out the most amazing frames and I cannot wait to pick them up. Additionally, she was very thorough in finding the right prescription. The office was clean and I can't say enough nice things about my visit. Update: The new glasses came sooner than expected and I was able to pick them up early! First off let me say, that my situation, medically, was a bit different. Im missing a natural lens in my eye due to an injury i had. My surgeon who i guess found this Nyack place through google said why dont you try this place after calling the place. Not a fan of this place. She says shes an artist on her yelp page but thats a con artist. Her prices are through the roof. Charges for everything and i mean everything!!! shes late to your appointments meanwhile she lives accross the street. Her office is always locked. What eye exam places lock their doors unless there closed for the day??? red flag right there. Also i spent 5 hours in her office only to receive wrong glasses and bad contacts. My surgeons office will no longer recommend anyone to come here and its a shame because local businesses should do better now a day. Sad individual, sad place. Poorly run, poor scheduling. Honestly I'm not sure how Dr. Morgenstern is still in business. I can only assume it's because people like me, who are on Medicaid and have almost no other provider options, are keeping her afloat. But honestly I would gladly pay to avoid the clown show next time. Let me say that she is a nice woman who tries to care about her patients, but has no professional skills. Scheduling with her is a nightmare, she misses appointments, texts you at wacky hours--no regard for her patients' time. Office is a wreck. Exams take forever. Basically what everybody else said. The wait was ridiculous, Dr. Morgenstern is out to get your money and not provide you with the proper glasses or contacts that you want. She goes around in circles when you arent happy and tries to get you to try on a ton of contact lenses. I was so unhappy and upset and she knew it but she refused to refund me the money that i paid, I even told her that I would be happy if she just used the money I paid towards glasses instead (Thats what i initially walked in for but she swindled me). I was in her office for 2 1/2 hours and i left with nothing but a huge headache. Now ive lost 200 dollars. I thought I was the only one who felt like Dr. Morgenstern provides below the standard service. Her eye exams are ridiculously long and I felt like she was after money! She is fake and does not seem to care about her patients. She forces you to get unnecessary add-ons for glasses and contacts. I went to visit her in 2009 for the first time due to her convenient location and I did not like the vibe that I received from her. I went to her a second time this year due to an emergency and she did the same thing. I felt the whole appointment was based on her trying to haggle me for money. Was told to come at a certain time after talking to the "Doc" and her assistant was giving me a hard time. The doctor then came and was helpful and nice, we spoke about prices and what I can afford. She then tries to push expensive options, and at the end of a visit that was supposed to be a set price was 5 times the amount. In our frenzied world, the trend of all medical caregivers is to move in the direction of shortening medical examinations on each visit. In other optometrist's offices, the trend is to rush patient exams and to have eyewear selections supervised by an hourly employee. Dr. Morgenstern resisted these time cutting trends, and walked me slowly through the eye exam, counseling, and frame selection phases. For my appointment, she skillfully and patiently tested and explained about my general eye health, presented vision correction alternatives, and offered an array of frame styles, as well as contacts. She made it a fun experience!! I especially liked the facts of Dr. Morgenstern's biography: she attended Nanuet schools through Nanuet High School. Then she won a full scholarship and became one of the few women at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Then she went on to the New England College of Optometry, one of the foremost in the country. With deep roots in our area, she knows the Hudson Valley well, and loves to serve its people. She even painted the alma mater portrait of a founder of the New England College of Optometry! Dr. Morgenstern's office has several of her original paintings on the walls. Her sensitivity to color and shape help inform her discerning eye in recommending eyewear - from the designer exclusives to the budget bargains. She wanted me to pick my choice, but her sensitive opinions were of great help! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Morgenstern for several years despite shoddy service, non-responsiveness, and failure on her part to recognize that her patients times is as important as her is. I probably only continued seeing her because she was local. However, this last experience causes me to leave this scathing review and take further action. I only assigned one star because it was the lowest rating but even that is a higher rating than she deserves. I saw her on September 30, 2020 (I am writing this review on December 11, 2020) at which time she conducted an examination and "sold" me on two pair of glasses, one for use when I am on the computer and the other for everyday use. I do realize that she is first and foremost a sales person. Anyway both glasses were ordered on 9/30 and after not hearing from her for a few weeks I did reach out to her, via phone, text (her preference though there is no guarantee that she will respond) and on 11/24 weeks ago I received the computer glasses some two months after they were ordered but the other glasses were not ready yet. I was told that she or her assistant Paul would let me know when the other pair of glasses were ready. On Monday, 12/7, I texted her and received an auto reply that "we are out of state and will not be in the office until Thursday". On 12/7, I replied that I expected a call on Thursday advising me regarding the status of my second pair of glasses and to also schedule an appointment for my computer glasses to be checked because I am disappointed with them. I sent another text yesterday, Thursday but of course I didn't receive a reply. I also called both numbers only to get the same voice mail that the mail box is full and not accepting any messages. This is quite alarming and suggests to me that perhaps something else is going on and that I may need to take further action to recover my money from her. I am not just very suspicious of Nyack Eyecare. Of course, I will never use them again, assuming they are still in business though given their unavailability and in the fact that their mail box is full (lots of other unhappy customers no doubt). I strongly suspect that they are no longer in business and just neglected to let their customers know. I plan to stop by their office tomorrow. read more

I hate this place and the dizzy Dr. like everyone else on this page she wasted my time taking and talking. she was very disorganized. She told my daughter she was wrong on the eye sight. She asked "what letter is this?" my daughter tells her" o" Dr: no try again. my daughter looks again and replies o. DR: tells no that's wrong try again. then she tells my she does not know her letters. My daughter is 5 and knows all her letters. Then she puts up pictures and repeats to me her mother "I don't think she knows her letter, maybe you should get her evaluated some times child at this age have trouble catching on to letters. then she asked my daughter about the pictures a candle a cake a horse and i think like a man or some thing. when my daughters could not see the man she told me maybe she doesn't know her shape. then she put it back to the the letters and ask her again what letters do u see .My daughter reads all the big letters a has trouble with the dissipating sizes .she tells my daughter to guess. she guess o e g something else i cant remember. Dr. M tells her "no that's wrong" this is the kicker. she then gives her multiple choice of c d s . my daughter replies i see an o . Dr. M tells her wrong again , at this point my mother who i came with is holding me down ( i was sitting in the waiting room because DR. M asked me to) so i don't go in there and snatch this lady. Dr.M tells her is a c. Now is your vision is blurred it would be possible to see a letter C as an O. Any Dr. or person with common sense would know this. the visit only got worse from there. My glasses were only suppose to take 1 to 2 weeks. That is is what DR.M told me it took 2 months. lots of frustration. tears and my daughter still cant see neither can i. when the glass finely came in the scrips are wrong and my daughter cant see out of her right eye. The vision in my left eye is worse with the glasses on. she got me foe $158. and is refusing to give me my money back. i went to her on 11/8/12 and i'm still trying to get my money back. i'm taking her to court and you should too. The visit here actually went well. I got a discount just because my insurance didnt cover eyecare. Dr. Morgenstern was friendly and we chatted about the Boston area where she went to school. I thought the exam was thorough and the rx was easier on my eyes then my past ones which she said were too strong. so i left pleased and with the address so i could send my favorite pair of frames for her to put the new rx in. i sent them, and got a nice email back saying she had received them and thanking me for the thank you note i sent. when i hadn't received the new glasses a few weeks later, i inquired and she had no recollection of ever having seen them!! what??? unfortunately for me, i don't save old emails. she couldnt have commented on my thank you note if she didnt received the frames i sent with it! it was so bizarre and ridiculous. they were about $300 frames which i never got back or was compensated for. Try the funky eyeglass around the corner, nice lady and awesome selection of french frames. avoid dr. morgenstern! read more

When arriving to Nyack Eye Care I tapped on the window like the sign says at exactly 8 (my appointment time exactly) The woman at the window gave me some paperwork to fill out and I sat down and did this. I finish and bring my paperwork back to the woman and sit down again. I'm waiting.... waiting.... waiting.... it's now 8:20 and the woman is on the other side making a quiet phone call and she is saying "Your patient is here when will you be here??" Are you kidding me?! The doctor isn't even in the building!!!! What the hell have I been waiting for? Fine, so I'm waiting.... waiting, then the inside door opens and the woman says, "I'm doctor Morgenstern, the doctor you're waiting for isn't here yet but should be here soon." So I say Was I early? I thought my appointment was at 8? She say's "yeah but he'll be here soon so it's ok" Um..... Did I say it was ok... I'm the one who's already been waiting now a half hour how can she tell me it's ok?!?!!!! So now she has me come into the actual glasses area (out of the waiting room) and begins to show me all the not so cute glasses they have and what my insurance covers. Ok fine I listen and finally the doc walks in now almost an hour late! I sit for my exam in the messiest, most unorganized exam room. The doc looks in my eyes checks that I can read the letters on the wall and all that stuff he then tells me I'm farsighted. Hmmm... I was only getting my eyes checked to see that they were healthy I feel like I can see perfectly as when I was a kid with 20 20.... ok fine I pick out some not so cute glasses and now have to do this with the woman again, Dr Morgenstern... She tries to convince me that I need everything money can buy in my glasses. I tell her no I'll take whatever the insurance will pay for I'm a student and have no money. She then pleads with me to spend $90 on the glare free thing that my insurance does not cover I continue to tell her my answer will not change I don't have extra money! She then asks maybe I can borrow it from family or friends.... Are you kidding me lady I said NO! Finally she gives me my receipt and I'm out the door. UGH! What an unprofessional establishment but owell. I figure when I get my glasses I guess I'll know if I need them or not. It's now 14 days later so I call and ask are my glasses in? Girl looks and says she'll call me right back.... nothing, no phone call... ok fine. Next day is now 15 days later I call same story I ask are my glasses in? please hold.... holding..... holding.... she comes back and now it's woman #1 from my visit.... Oh great.... She says that something fell through the cracks and they will order them today.....So I ask how long do I have to wait? 10 days!!! Are you kidding 10 friggin days is this lady insane?! She never apologized she basically just said it's the way it is. So I said what happened this is kind of annoying. Then she wouldn't shut up telling me I'm wrong for being annoyed that I've been waiting this long and hangs up on me! Really!? I call back now pissed.... They ignore my call three times.... I call from my house phone and Ah immediate answer! So I say I need to speak to the doc the receptionist say's she can't come to the phone... well now I'm fuming I tell her to cancel my order because they do not deserve the business she refuses. I used Hillary for my eye exam and glasses some time ago. It was a SH** show and she is a total headcase. She made me wait 3 weeks for new glasses and they were wrong. I remember her hours were weird too. She had me there at night, and some guy named Rick, possibly her boyfriend greeted me and let me in. He apologized that she wasn't there, but she was having personal issues with her son. I gave up and went elsewhere. I have been much happier since then. read more

I chose to go to Nyack Eyecare because I wanted to support a local business and, upon telephoning, I found that they would accept my insurance plan. When I arrived, I was surprised to see that it was situated in one of the local "flea market"-type stores in Nyack, with mutliple stores in the same large space. Nyack Eyecare did have a small waiting room and a window, through which you can communicate with the secretary. I had an appointment for 5:00 P.M., but was not seen by Hilary Morgenstern until approximately 5:30 - she left to take care of some business dealing with still lifes that she paints. When she saw me upon her return, I found her to be very thorough and fun to talk to, but she was constantly interrupting my eye exam to talk to her son about moving this or not touching that. I had brought two pairs of glasses with me, wanting to keep the frames but change the lenses in both. I opted for the best of everything - transitions, ultra thin lenses, scratch guard, anti-reflective. For two sets of lenses, the bill came out to over 700 dollars (insurance partilaly paid for one pair). I figured it was expensive because I did opt for the best. Well, the glasses were not ready until THREE weeks later, which I think is unheard of. I was finally called to pick up my glasses and went last night. Well, Dr. Morgenstern told me that they "forgot" to turn on the frame heating apparatus, so I'd have to come back to get my glasses adjusted. I found this quite unprofessional and inconsiderate, but agreed. Now, I am trying to schedule an adjustment for today, but her secretary tells me that she is booked for today and I must do it tomorrow. In a nutshell, I think I made a mistake by going to Nyack Eyecare. We are all busy these days - who has time to wait 3 weeks for glasses and then be told to return for an adjustment. I think Dr. Morgenstern should be working in an optical shop that she does not own because she simply cannot manage patients professionally all by herself. We all want to support local businesses, but they should make an effort to provide, if not superior, satisfactory service. read more

I do not recommend this place. First off, the Office is a mess! There are papers and random optometry equipment everywhere. I had to dodge a bunch of junk just to get to the eye exam chair. Optometrist Morgenstein was really aggressive in pushing the most expensive pair of eye glasses. When I asked to see the less expensive pairs she did not show them to me. She kept saying, you have good insurance-they will cover this more pricier pair". I was in such need for glasses that I ordered a pair and it took 4 weeks to get the glasses. I would follow up week after week and her mailbox was always full. She gives your her cell phone to text- but never replies. It got to the point where I threatened to speak to insurance company about her poor service before she finally ANSWERED HER PHONE. I strongly do not recommend this eye store. Consumers should be aware that if you make an appointment with Dr Hilary Morgenstern, she no longer does any of the eye exams. She does not tell you this when you make the appointment. Dr. Guy Bismuth does the eye exams, who was not a provider listed with my insurance co at the location I obtained the exam despite what Dr. Morgenstern claimed. This is bait and switch. The office resembles that of a hoarders home with old equipment and merchandise everywhere pilled up. I was forced to contact my insurance company and credit card company to obtain glasses ordered. I was not able to reach the MD with a mailbox full unable to leave any messages and text messages which she ask you to do, to reach her were not returned until I pursued the issue with the insurance co. You get an eye exam in a small crowed room with old equipment pilled up at the other end, with someone you did not make the appointment with. Dr. Bismuth was personable however I knew nothing about him or his credentials at the time of the exam which was very disappointing, Dr Morgenstern just pushes you on him. She also has signs posted in her office area to sell vegan food and beauty products unsure if she is licensed to do that. read more

I made an appointment for a health screening and she ended up testing my vision and trying to sell me glasses. She then told me to come back at a later date for the health screening. She wanted to overcharge me and she takes weeks to get your glasses back to you, but I think she may have been holding my frames hostage because she personally disagreed with the type lenses I wanted. My initial visit (in October) was good. Dr. Morgenstern was helpful and friendly. She ordered new contacts and glasses for me. It seemed strange that she charges over $200 for a contact lens fitting fee when my old Dr charged $20 (and she didn't do anything since I told her I Was very happy with the lenses I have been wearing). I got the contacts a few weeks later and they didn't work, so she said she would send them back to get a new prescription. She ordered a new brand against my wishes, but I tried them. They were the same- didn't work. I asked for the old brand in the old prescription (as it was now November and I needed the new ones). She didn't order them as requested, she tried another prescription. These also didn't work. In December, we finally agreed that she would order the old brand and old prescription. I was told it would take a few days to get the contacts. A few weeks later, they were not in and I left for the holidays. In January, I went back to the office to find out she didn't order anything. She didn't remember the conversation about ordering anything. At this meeting, I asked her to order the old brand/old prescription AGAIN. She decided that she would order a new prescription because the first one may have been defective. She said it would only take a "few days" just so we could see if they really don't work. 2 weeks later, the trail lenses are in and I could come in to try them. I made an appointment and she never showed. It is now the end of January. I have expressed concern, anxiety and stress about not having any contacts for 3 months. I'm not sure how this will end. I've asked for my money back and am being ignored. Please, please do not go to Nyack eyecare!!! They are unprofessional, unorganized and horrible to deal with. read more

My visit to Dr. Morgenstern has already been a few years back (maybe 3), but I wasn't into providing reviews then. So when I saw the other (bad) review, it prompted me to add mine. She is actually a pleasant woman, but her exams take too long -- 2 hours for a regular eye exam -- because she was working alone, plus the fact that she did the admin stuff herself. On my second visit to pick up the glasses, it was not enough for her that I just pick them up -- she wanted to test my eyesight with the glasses, and that took another 1 hour. She did have her optician partner in there who did not seem to happy to be working with her. I also think the prices for her glasses and lenses were too much. There was another patient (poor guy) who was there ahead of me, but for some reason she decided to take me first and the guy had to wait.
