I came here during the COVID-19 pandemic as I was experiencing sensitivity in my tooth. Fortunately, Dr. Gochman and team were open with limited hours. During the first appointment, he redid the filling. Aside from a little pain, it was quick and over. Over the course of two weeks, the sensitivity/pain heightened. Being the paranoid person I am, I called and left a message. Dr. Gochman was nice enough to send a text and reminded me to be patient. The pain did not subside so I went back and Dr. Gochman asked some questions (scale of 1-10, how bad is the pain, how often, etc etc.). He observed the tooth and said he could do a root canal but his gut was telling him not to. He said I can wait a month to see how things pan out or seek a second opinion. I appreciated the honesty as my usual dentist's endo once recommended a root canal on another tooth which turned out to be perfectly fine. Anyway, while the visits were nice, the second visit felt as if Dr. Gochman did not really believe I was in as much discomfort as I mentioned or he was not in a great mood that particular day. But I'm still giving my visits a 4-star; I've read many great reviews on Yelp about Dr. Gochman's office and their service and I can only assume the uncertainty of the pandemic has affected everyone and my discomfort may not have been as serious as some of the other patients that the doctor has seen. Truly appreciate his office for taking new patients and the honesty given. Hoping that the pain ends soon and that when things are back to "normal", I can go into the doctor's office as a returning patient. read more

Dr Gochman is awesome! Last night I had an old crown (by another dentist) fall out and they were able to take me in this afternoon, which is great considering the pandemic. To ensure our safety, the place is thoroughly sanitized, and there are air purifiers in each room. Your temperature is taken when you arrive and you'll also answer questions to make sure you're healthy. This gave me peace of mind. There is literally nobody better. I live in Tribeca and travel all the way to Flushing because there isn't a better Dentist in New York or Long Island. I hate to say this, but dentists are in many ways, like auto mechanics. Aside from your yearly cleanings, you don't have much of a reason to go to the dentist until something goes wrong. Dentists prey on this vulnerability. As soon as they get you in the chair, the equivalent of taking a look underneath the hood, they could diagnose you with a myriad of things and more often than not, you're going to say, "FINE. JUST MAKE IT GO AWAY." That's the hook -when they know they have you. They can then charge a small fortune and you never really know whether or not they are being honest. I remember watching a news report on auto mechanics and a real mechanic, in conjunction with the network, did an experiment with a jeep. The radiator was broken and should have cost approximately $500 to fix. He took it to 7 mechanics and dealerships in New York. Not one of them quoted him a price of less than $3,000 dollars. Many coming in much higher and some of them completely fabricating additional issues. I've no doubt this is analogous to many experiences you've all had with other dentists. Gochman is the exception (I'm sure there are others but I've yet to meet one in NYC). There have been instances where I've gotten pricing on a procedure and Gochman has said to me, "That's insane, this is really what you need to do." I then feel confident he's doing exactly what's right for me at a price that is unerringly fair. In addition, there is complete transparency between Gochman, his patients, and his staff. You know exactly what is going on and exactly how much it is going to cost, long before you even open your mouth for the procedure. But like Levar Burton said, "don't take my word for it." The next time you need a procedure go to your regular dentist for a diagnosis and pricing. Go to two. Then see Gochman and let us know how your experience went and if you didn't completely trust that Gochman had your best interest at heart. It is my recommendation that you continue your search for another dentist. I visited the office in what I believe was the late summer of 2013. My initial visit was with Dr. Bharati (Dr. Gochman's co-dentist). After a cleaning with the hygienist (who did perform the best cleaning - painless - ever!) Dr. Bharati then examined my mouth and xrays. I needed a filling or two. She than began to discuss Invisalign options (no interest). This was followed by her expressed interest in the need to replace a large amalgam filling in a molar that I had for years. I was told that although it was fine at the time, eventually the filling would begin to separate from the tooth which would result in many issues (chipping, etc.). I was then pitched the need to replace that filling with an onlay (complete with visual aids). In fear of eventually losing the tooth, I agreed! I decided to have Dr. Gochman perform the procedure for the onlay (trusting in his experience and education). After completion, for months I was unable to effectively chew on that side because of pain. Upon returning to Dr. Gochman in complaint of pain, I believe he may have placed some sort of desensitizing agent on the tooth (unsure). However, I was told to brush with toothpaste for sensitive teeth and if the pain returned I may need root canal. This was disconcerting to say the least considering my tooth was absolutely fine prior to ever visiting this office. Well... I took his advice and have been using toothpaste specifically for sensitive teeth ever since. After a couple of more months the pain had subsided! Fast Forward to present day - My tooth began to chip away from the onlay and I am now in the process of having root canal, followed by a crown! Everything that I was supposed to be avoiding came to fruition because an unnecessary recommendation. FYI: According to Colgate, "You should replace amalgam fillings only when they are worn, broken or when there is decay beneath the filling. There's no evidence that they can cause a problem. Removing good amalgam fillings results in unnecessary loss of healthy parts of the tooth and can release more mercury." *This is the reason people are reluctant to go to dentists because patients fear being taken for a ride more so than any potential pain. *Response to Dr. Gochman: "While I appreciate your response, I too disagree with your recount of my initial visit to your office. As stated in my review, Dr. Bharati discussed the possibility of future issues with that particular molar. Specifically, she told me that while it had not yet occurred, old silver fillings often begin to separate from the tooth which would result in chipping of the tooth and enable further decay. She also discussed the aesthetic reasons to remove the large filling and replace it with the onlay. She presented me with a model of teeth and showed me essentially what would be done. At no time was I told that the current filling which I hadn't had an issue with was "defective, and not restored into normal function." This is in fact the first time that I am hearing this. Additionally, it was not until I returned to see you after the pain/sensitivity would not go away after having the onlay placed, that you told me the tooth may eventually need root canal. I can assure you if I was told in advance that this tooth was defective and may eventually need root canal, under no circumstance would I disrupt the tooth and pay for an onlay only to pay a substantial amount in less than five years later to have both root canal and a crown. In my experience it is best to discuss all options and potential outcomes/ramifications so that the client/patient is well informed ahead of time, thus nullifying the potential for negative feedback." read more

Dr. Gochman has saved my smile! Before seeing him I wasn't able to smile or show my teeth for years, but with his expertise he managed to help me get back to not only a normal smile but normal 6 month check check ups and procedures. I had my first visit to this dental office yesterday (a Saturday). I don't like going to the dentist because I equate the experience with pain however I had the best experience at this practice. The receptionist was so pleasant and polite, the dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth Dr. Bharti was also very pleasant. She took the time to explain the condition of my teeth. I have to go back to refill a small cavity my previous dentist didn't do a good job on next week. The Story, So I really don't like doctors or dentist that much, I've always sort of had a phobia to needles . Needing my first cavity filling is a very very long time I decided to search for a dentist that did some level of sedation. I emailed several places asking specific questions from insurance, services, and about sedation. very few replied and the ones that did just told me to pretty much call them... well if I wanted to call you I would have, but I emailed you did I not? DR. Richard J. Gochman Responded to me himself directly via email. We scheduled a consultation where he pretty much gave me several treatment options and sedation options. I choose an oral sedation to calm myself, and we actually used Waterlace which is laser removal of the tooth decay. Thus I didn't have to have any needles or inject sedation or gas sedation at all. The Review: Dr. Gochman is an experienced dentist who genuinely cares for the well-being of his patients His office manager is very straightforward and informative. The Dental assistant is very new, friendly, personable, and excited to do her job. She is also very cute. The location itself can be a little annoying to get to depending on where you are from, the parking is surprisingly not terrible during the afternoon however I was told that they validate parking. The pricing structure is extremely reasonable, I had a previous dentist try to charge $180 for gas, theirs is a fraction of the cost. read more

My experience with literally having to beg the receptionist to pay out of pocket for a cleaning infuriates me. To save money I go to NYU clinics to get my X-rays done but this office insists that in order to get a cleaning I have to pay an extra 80 dollars to get a check up. For three years, I had no insurance and paid out of pocket for a cleaning but pretty much had to beg and go through hell to get a cleaning appointment. When I finally got insurance last year, I couldn't use it because they didn't accept my insurance so I went to another dentist under my insurance and the cleaning sucked. So I decided that I would get my cleaning here and get my X-rays under my insurance but once again the argument ensued when I called to book an out of pocket cleaning appointment at his office. I am disgusted by they fact that this place is so greedy and they don't even give a shit about providing a service that helps to prevent cavities. If you offer a service and someone is willing to pay out of pocket for it give it to them. This is absolute BS and greed. Stop denying people the service they need to maintain the health of their teeth especially when I am traveling all the way from Staten Island to pay out of pocket for a cleaning. This place is full of Shit. Saying that I never provided X-rays which is bs and even after I'm telling them I have X-rays still denying an appointment. This is pure greed and unprofessionalism at its finest. Your answer to this review does not support helping patients maintain their dental health and is total BS. When I offered to bring in my X-rays I was denied telling me they were a year old. So which is it do you want them or not? Also I had a future appointment to have X-rays at NYU which accepts my insurance. Why should I pay for X-rays when they are covered under my insurance which you do not accept? I'm already paying out of pocket to make sure I get a thorough cleaning. I wasn't told you can come in once you renew your X-rays I was flat out denied because you want to get the money for the xrays period. This is not about you being a HEALTHCARE provider and having integrity. It is about greed. I haven't had a cavity since I am 13 years old because I take excellent care in maintaining my teeth. There is zero excuse for denying a patient a good cleaning. You're a disgrace to your profession and the health profession in general and I feel very comfortable with maintaining my review of you. read more

We found a great dentist in Dr. Gochman. He got great reviews (not much on Yelp but great reviews elsewhere), and he and his office staff lived up to them. My parents have been going to him for a year now, and they're super-pleased. Office staff is great, and Dr. Gochman is gentle and has been taking great care of my parents. I just got my wisdom tooth extracted because I had an infection and a cyst behind the tooth with pain shooting up to my ear. I was terrified. Dr Gochman did not disappoint. I felt absolutely NO PAIN! And it occurred so fast I could not believe it was over so quickly! I have been going to Dr Gochman since the early nineties. He was a second opinion for work another dentist said I needed.
