I come here for general cleanings, which is fine, my dentist Dr. Huang was polite and conservative in treatment. But in my last cleaning, I had a crack on my tooth and I was referred out to an endodontist for a root canal, which I thought was weird since I thought this practice did root canals in-house. So I did my root canal elsewhere, but then they said that I have to go back to my regular dentist in 1-2 weeks to get a permanent filling and a crown. However, when I called them again, they said that the endodontist need to forward them the report/x-ray results and the earliest appointment is in 3 weeks. I think I would rather rush this and get it down elsewhere. read more

This level of care in dental health is world class! Staff are lovely and more than knowledgeable in their line of work. I made a primary review for E.C. Dental Group on Google Maps and this is part 2. I returned to their office following a cleaning prior to the Root Canal Therapy procedure I received today. (RCT) Local Anesthesia was administered, and the technique was superb compared to other dentists in NYC. For you medical geeks out here, I am not too sure in regards to what exactly was done, maybe someone can tell me. I know it's either Intraligamentary or Infiltration. Again, the whole entire procedure was vocalized thoroughly by the dentist/endodontist I was seeing. the Nurses and X-ray techs are AMAZING! PROFESSIONAL CARE FOR BOTH APPOINTMENTS! I wanted a cleaning and had to wait weeks since they were booked. They told me at the time they no longer took my insurance which is fine and I can pay cash. They asked if I wanted an exam along with the cleaning. I said no. Weeks go by and a few days before my appointment they call me and say I have to do the exam along with the cleaning and it's their policy. This nearly doubled the amount I was gonna spend. I was told by GP and Gastro doctor that Dr Eric Chang is very good. That is not true. He is great. I have been to other dentists in Flushing and Dr Chang is fantastic. He explains everything to you. I had a huge toothache and he examined my tooth. He said I needed the tooth to be removed. He said I could get a second opinion but he was sure I needed the tooth to be remove. My gut said go for it and I had the tooth removed. My tooth split in two and the tooth was only held together by my gum. He was right. I had a lot of questions and he patiently answered them. He patiently explained to me about the implant and what would be the next steps. The staff is very polite, friendly and helpful. The office has all the up to date imaging equipment. Takes insurance. I had a toothache last year and was in a lot of pain. The dentist I had was apathetic, so I desperately needed to find another dentist to ease the pain. I found Dr. Eric Chang on Yelp and my relief came immediately after my first visit! Dr. Chang took the x-ray and told me that I had fractured tooth. He said I need an implant. He explained the procedure and the cost involved. I told him that I have no dental insurance and he was able to break down the cost into manageable amounts for me. It took awhile to get the implant (I had to wait for the bone graft to heal), but now I can eat and chew without any pain. Recently, my husband and I had our teeth cleaned at Dr. Chang's office and we both agreed that our teeth have never looked brighter or cleaner! We will make this our routine from now on. All of Dr Chang's staff members are bi-lingual and very professional. I have recommended this dental office to all my family and friends! read more

I went to Dr. Chang's office for the first time about two weeks ago for a cleaning session and a check up as one of my teeth was bothering me. His staff was very friendly and explained to me all the forms that I was supposed to fill out and signed. No other patient was in the waiting room, so I was called into the exam room very quickly. The staff did an x-ray on my teeth and Dr. Chang diagnosed all the problems that I had and provided me options for treatment plans. He also explained to me with easy-to-understand images why certain treatments may not work on my teeth. He was very patience and he answered all my questions/concerns before he left the room. The lady who did the cleaning was very professional and nice too. She avoided the problematic tooth when cleaning it as that tooth was determined to be extracted anyway. The whole process was smooth and I did not feel any pain or uncomfortable. Today was my second visit to Dr. Chang's office and the purpose of the visit was to extract two teeth (a problematic tooth and a wisdom tooth that caused the problem of the adjacent tooth). Dr. Chang explained the procedures again before he started and he also told me what he was up to when he was extracting the teeth. He was polite, knowledgeable and professional. Even though I was always nervous about seeing dentist all the time, I was happy that I chose Dr. Chang as I did not feel any pain during the extraction and after the extraction. I am still looking forward to the next visit to Dr. Chang's office to get my other problematic teeth fixed so far. Forgot to mention, his office is located in a new building on 37th Avenue, Flushing, right across the parking lot. The office is modern, bright and clean. Although Dr. Chang is quite prompt and straightforward, I do feel that he was trying to frighten me by saying I will need a root canal procedure done or else I would be in a lot of pain. He said the pain would hit me one day if I didn't act on it immediately. Therefore I listened and went in for what I thought I "needed". As he was drilling my tooth, he said it looks quite promising; you don't need to do a root canal. He could've explained it a little more rather than threatening me with what would come. I think I could've just cleaned and maintained my tooth instead of getting an artificial filling done. read more

I've avoided the dentist for as long as I can remember because I always felt like each one was just after my money. With Dr. Eric Chang, although I was skeptical at first, I felt truly alright. He was polite and very knowledgable, he remembered my name after the very first visit and made me feel like I was in good hands. I've had dentists tell me I needed 3 root canals but I could never afford them. So after avoiding the dentist for a couple years, a tooth chipped and I had no choice but to find a new dentist and see what could be done. Lo and behold I found Dr. Chang and did not actually need 3 root canals and the one tooth that was chipped Dr. Chang was able to fill before it got worse and actually would have turned into me needing a root canal. Went in for semi annual check up. The clinic is always kept very clean and the receptionists treat us with care. The wait time is not long either. Even better, the dentist is great and very kind and patient with us. The dentist will notify us ahead of time before he begins any processes and is open to questions from the patients. Dr. Chang is a dentist you can trust - he is honest, patient and professional. I went to Dr. Chang to have a filling done. It was a small cavity and I thought I was going simply just to get the hole plugged. Dr. Chang, however, was very thorough. He checked out all my teeth, gave very honest and detailed opinions on my overall dental condition, took some xrays, did a nice cleaning, and then he fixed the cavity. The whole procedure was very easy. Dr. Chang suggests no anesthesia injection since the cavity was small. He was right. I didn't feel any pain throughout the procedure. It was painless and needle-free. Dr. Chang booked me a 6 month recall exam at the end of the visit. Eric is my second dentist and he is introduced by my friend. I gave up my first one because the assistant not the dentist was responsible to clean my teeth--which made me very hurt. The service was definitely lacking at the time of our phone interaction which I expressed at that particular time. I don't think there was any misunderstanding, just simply really bad service and experience which I have shared. 1. You guys did state that my insurance did not cover dental the first time I received a call from the office. Not only did your staff not understand the issue fully, they were dismissive and completely unprofessional. You guys did not help, only made up excuses and irrelevant reasons that did not reflect the matter. Regardless of the situation, a patient with questions should not be rudely hung-up on in any situation and that there is no justification for that kind of behavior. I strongly suggest you and your staff take the time to learn and acknowledge all types of insurance policy and rules prior to calling each patient and thoroughly explain whatever it is that you were trying to explain. 2. As for Zocdoc, the insurance was already pre-selected for convenience of your office. Again, your staff called and stated that my insurance did not cover dental which my associate heard via conference call and would be able to verify and confirm exactly what your office staff stated. 3. The phone call was deliberately passed to others and at one point hung up due to the unprofessionalism of your team. Not once I was told that the office was busy or any other reason other than I was just transferred and hung up towards the end. Simple as that. During the call I was able to hear the two staff talking to each other from the phone switching the call back and forth, pushing off the responsibility they had. This was extremely unfortunate and I'm sorry but this again sounds like another excuse you are coming up with. No comments were ever expressed nor stated regarding Dr. Chang's professionalism, knowledge, and his services other than the direct experience from his incompetent office staff which I hope does not translate and reflect Dr. Chang's decision making abilities and capabilities. In addition, as the office manager, you have a lot of work to do in terms of properly training your immediate staff on all aspects of professionalism, insurance knowledge, and customer service so this incident will never repeat with other potential patients. Next time, try to accept and identify the mistakes from within your office staff instead of coming with more excuses, bad reasons, and blaming on other patients. read more

Extremely happy with the service and staff. Dr. Chang is very knowledgeable and professional, as well as friendly and personable. My 4-year-old and 6-year-old boys are not afraid to go to the dentist not only because Dr. Chang is extremely patient and gentle, he also spent time to explain his equipments to the kids so that they would expect what kind of the noise they would hear and not freak out. Dr. Chang has been great so far. I've been going to him for the past two years now. He has great bedside manner which helps alleviate the stress and anxiety that comes with a dentist visit. He is very patient, listens and takes his time to answer my questions. Another great thing is that he does not overbook himself. The people who are running this office and dealing with patients are not informed and are unwilling to do their job, I spoke with two people on the day of my appointment and they lied about calling my insurance (because I called the same day and it turned out that the office was closed) Then when I tried to explain the proper process and that my insurance was in fact covered the women I was speaking to said she was new and did not know the process so she handed over the phone to her co worker who also did not know how to deal with the insurance situation and became so frustrated that she hung up the phone. First she didn't know that the insurance was excepted, then when I called to confirm two days prior to the appointment and then called the office I was told it was okay to come to my scheduled appointment, then on the day of my appointment I was called an hour prior to my scheduled and was told I wasn't covered. And am not about to go to the appt because according to the person answering the phone she was scared the insurance "might not pay them"...... Don't deal with these people... I suggested she ask the doctor but was hung up on instead. Very professional. It goes without saying that I will not consider returning. Whenever I have issues with the people at the front desk I don't bother seeing the Dr. - especially from the start you know its a bad idea to proceed with that office. Those people represent the office and the Doctor. So when your secretary staff speaks poor English and give you an attitude when they don't know how to handle a situation and in addition hang-up on you without making an effort to explain... yah you can bet that this office will never be pleasant to deal with, and forget it if you have an issue or more serious question. All the positive reviews are well earned. I had a great experience with him and his staff. Everyone was professional and friendly. He was also thorough and open with costs and working with my insurance, which was very comforting. Overall a positive experience and definitely best dentist I've been too. I had a checkup, a cavity filled and a root canal. Everything went very smoothly including with my insurance. I was particularly happy with the x-ray procedure, which was a lot less painful and quicker than with other dentists (seemed like a lot less putting those plastic things in my mouth). These procedures were completed over a month in multiple sessions and scheduling was very easy too. I've been to many dental offices in the queens/ flushing area, but I have to say Dr Chang is the best. First of all, he is extremely knowledgeable in his area of expertise and is patient and professional. He's thorough, listens and explains the procedure step by step, not to mention competent, this is just from getting my annual cleaning. I did quite a bit of research to find a health first dentist. I live in Astoria and chose not to go into Manhattan because I felt the patients there would be more transient and dentists would have less desire to look after them. Dr. Chang was on time and both he and his assisted made me feel welcome and comfortable. I didn't realize I needed 6 fillings. his patient after me cancelled so he did all my fillings in one session. I found astonishing reviews of Dr. Chang on Yelp and other websites and thought he would be a great dentist for my mother who has multiple tooth issues. There are a few reviews complaining about his staff, Dr. Chang's response made me believe that he cares about how patients feel about his service and those issues should've been resolved. So I contacted his office for an appointment. What a big mistake! The lady answering the phone by the name of Maggie started with asking all the details of insurance info which I thought was normal. As the conversation went on, she said we cannot make an appointment for an overall review of my mother's dental issues as the insurance would not cover it within 6 months of previous review. I understand, but we were seeking second opinion. She stated if it were just an exam of a few teeth, insurance would cover. So I said we can make an appointment to have Dr. Chang exam the teeth my mother has pain right now. Maggie then said even for that the insurance coverage is very limited and suggested we might as well just pay out of pocket for the examination to have an overall review. I was a bit turned off by her switching back and forth on the insurance coverage and decided to check with my mother how we want to proceed. When I called the 2nd time, I told Maggie that we just want Dr. Chang to exam a couple of my mother's teeth. Maggie emphasized again about the insurance limitation which I insisted it would be OK (as I was hoping Dr. Chang would worth the wait of 2 weeks due to his fully booked schedule despite my mother is in pain - you know these days good dentists are hard to find). Unbelievably Maggie said that examining the 2nd tooth is a favor from Dr. Chang already. I told her that it seems all they care is about whether insurance is going to pay instead of concerning about patients. After hearing this, Maggie booked the appointment for me. A few minutes later, she called back and told me the insurance will only have a limit of 1 x-ray per visit. I told her I have all the x-rays they need and can email to the office. She continued with explaining the insurance limitation and then gave the phone to a lady who does billing (her name might be Julienna). Once Julienna opened her mouth, no one can talk. Every time I tried to ask a question, explain, or confirm - before I could even finish a few words, Julienna threw back with her endless talking. She would not stop and/or listen. I told her I understood the coverage, but wanted to confirm something and she had to stop talking to understand me. It was useless. I had to put the phone aside and just let her keep talking. When she finally stopped, she asked me why I was not saying anything. Duh, woman, you have no communication skills. I told her she needs to listen first before understanding others - well, she started again - I had to let her blah blah over the phone like crazy with my phone aside. In the end, she hung up... It is clear from my experience the most important part of patient care at Dr. Chang's office is obviously $$$. With the rude attitude and no communication skills of the staff, I will not want visit Dr. Chang even if he is the best dentist in the world. I DO NOT need a favor - your office is not a charity. read more
