This is a generic BUSINESS hotel, clearly not for leisure or for family vacation. I've stayed here twice in the course of a year - once with my pet - and the second time staying without a pet confirmed that there's a lack of finess and attention at this Novotel location. I love their green initiative but that cannot be the excuse for providing such rough facial tissues that feel like a softened newsprint and also the lack of any tissues in the room. Only to be found in the bathroom locked in the vanity case. While polite and friendly, insensitive front desk staff failed to offer a timely and adequate service when I mentioned the shower and tub was dirty. There was no offer to provide another room. I had to call the housekeeping directly after 2 hours of making the original report to the front desk to get someone to come to clean the tub and shower head. The housekeeper was polite and friendly, but it was awkward to have to explain what needed to be done yet again and try to rest in the room while having him clean the shower with a strong chemical. Oh, and there is no bathroom fans, which truly tells how outdated this establishment is. I understand the lack of motivation to upgrade the hotel due to its handy location and the need for a hotel for people who are visiting the area for business, but it's disappointing that it doesn't live up to its brand name Novotel, as I'd imagine many people who book this hotel would expect a higher level of service and room conditions. read more

The rating of 2/5 stars is based on the total service provided. The location is somewhat convenient in that it's located as part of North York Center so you have direct access to the food court/shops there, so if you're commuting from the TTC you can technically access it while staying inside, but that's only during the shopping center's hours. You could technically keyfob in at a later time in the day, but if you're arriving for check in and haven't received your keys you're SOL. On the outside its a short walk from Yonge Street. As for the rooms, pretty good, but I don't see the point of service requests if they're not followed. I had a pretty standard one; multiple bath towels - 6 instead of the standard 4. Upon checking in, this was clearly not followed. The lack of amenities is the major reason for the low review. People from out of town were staying here and as its a hot summer, we specifically booked this hotel due to the listed amenity of an indoor pool on both the Novotel official site and expedia. Upon checking in, we were told the pool was closed for renovations for the unforeseeable future. I informed the manager this was misleading and it looks like they corrected this, however the elevators still outline the floor for the pool and there are physical signs as well. If you're looking to use the pool summer 2024 you should look elsewhere. read more

Great location! I had a 3-day business meeting for 45 people at the Novotel North York in June - great experience! Everyone on staff is very professional, friendly, and helpful, and food (both restaurant and banquets) was quite good. Although the A/V is a bit dated (screens and projectors from their vendor instead of built-in monitors with HDMI cables), it all worked out well. Plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants nearby, and being in the North York Centre not only provided great underground access to the shops on Younge Street, but there is also a Subway station (very reasonable rates of CAD3.30 one-way) to get downtown in about 30 minutes vs. 40+ minutes by car read more

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night for a work event. I would describe this hotel as "janky chic." They give off vibes of a luxury/boutique hotel, but our room was actually pretty janky. The shower floor and tiles were discolored and the soap dispensers were broken. The shower water also drained very slowly. This made it all feel very unclean. The toilet paper is some of the worst hotel toilet paper I've had--it had the texture of those brown paper towels. The location is great, however. We arrived late at night and needed a snack, and there were plenty of dining options within walking distance. For one quick night it was manageable, but it's definitely not somewhere I'd like to spend a lot of time at. read more

Incredible staff. Best hotel experience I've had in years despite staying in more upscale hotels. The hotel isn't in amazing shape, infrastructure is old and management hasn't spent a lot to keep it updated. But the reason to stay here is the staff. Everyone says they go above and beyond but these employees really do, everything from hotel room refreshing to the helpfulness of the restaurant staff to the friendliness of the front desk concierges -- people working here are sincere, genuine, and welcoming. For a place that doesn't look like much this hotel's staff really made my stay a lovely one. I would come back for this alone. P.S. The breakfast buffet was very nice -- food was of good quality and they kept it replenished so that nothing ever ran out. That definitely didn't hurt either! read more

My partner and I stayed here during our recent trip to Toronto. It's located inside of the North York Centre, and they also have another entrance on Park Home Ave. I personally prefer entering via the North York Centre, as it's been so humid outside and I can appreciate the air conditioning. We booked our stay via Booking.com, and from there I left a note that it was my partner's birthday on Monday the 18th. The staff at the counter said Happy Birthday, and momentarily, we were given a gift that we didn't expect. There was a Pellegrino, an apple and some snacks, which we appreciate. The hotel is also located near Yonge Street, and there's so many amazing local businesses to support -- every other corner is a restaurant, bakery or a bubble tea spot. It felt like heaven on earth. We were on the 14th floor, the room came with a ton of lights, a TV, and a dedicated space for working remotely. I can appreciate how comfortable the chair was and having lots of outlets for me to work from the hotel for 2 days. My only issue is why did they think it was smart to put the AC vent on the far top right corner of the wall, where the curtains sit? There was also no way to move the curtains away from the vent. I found myself adjusting the temperature to 5 degrees Celsius (the lowest temperature the thermostat will allow me to adjust to), and I was still sweating. There was no oscillating or ceiling fan anywhere. I also noticed that they put a hold on my credit card the first night for the entire amount of the stay, and the staff was courteous with me over the phone and also checked to make sure that my bill is correct. This morning on our way to check out, I found our receipt on the floor of our door. Overall we had a good time and would be open to staying here and in this neighborhood again. I'd recommend this location to anyone in the area looking to stay in a safe area, with great public transportation, the area is super walkable, and it's filled with tons of restaurants and businesses. It's refreshing to have access to great options without being in downtown the heart of Toronto. read more

I was here for a personal growth conference earlier this month at Novotel North York. I had a good experience. The conference room was very spacious. Each round table had a jug of iced cold water and cups prepared for us. The chairs were not exactly the most comfortable tho lol. Coffee and tea were available in the foyer just outside the room. Mini muffins served outside as well - some of the best muffins I've ever had imo. They tasted fresh, fluffy and delicious, and most importantly, the muffins were warm/hot... yum :) There is parking underground, I paid about $15 for the day, and it was a Thursday. The parking directly connects to an indoor 'mall' where you will find the Public Library, small shops, professional offices, and Novotel hotel. I want those mini muffins again lmao. read more

This past month, the lives of me and my family got uprooted because we had to renovate our condo unit's flooring due to repeated water damage over the years. Now, I'm physically disabled, whereas my wife isn't, so it made good sense for me live in a hotel where the premises was physically accessible, as opposed to my mother-in-laws, which very much isn't. So, I came to live at Novotel North York for 12 nights, whereas my wife and kids went to her Mom's place. Imagine how grumpy and stressed out I was, wheeling into the hotel to check in (2 hours after check-in) only to find out that they hadn't yet done some ambiguous final safety check! I was told it would only be "5 minutes". I have to say this was mystifying to me! I asked them why this safety check wasn't done before I arrived and no matter which way I asked they refused to give me a straight answer by the concierge. After complaining to one of the managerial staff, about how it wasn't taking "5 minutes" (it in fact took 9 minutes; not long in the grand scheme of things but man was I stressed and grumpy) he asked the concierge how long I'd been waiting, and when she said "5 minutes" then he repeated that figure to me. That really angered me. I told him that it was clear that he was deciding to believe her and assume that I was exaggerating when I estimated 10 - 20 minutes of wait time. When it was clear that I wasn't getting anywhere with him I uttered the words "f#$% it" under my breath. Oh boy, then he threatened me by saying if I'm swearing then they may have to take "further steps". I told him I wasn't swearing at him, but I think he was just annoyed of me and took pleasure in threatening to boot me out. *exhales* Okay, now the good part: The bed, and the room, were comfortable enough. The bathroom was well appointed. Towel service was kind of random, but not altogether bad. Housekeeping and maintenance staff were amazing (here's looking at you, Lorenzo!!). Since they were the ones I interacted with most often, they made the experience SO MUCH BETTER than if I had to always deal with the likes of the initial folks during check-in. The Nespresso machine provided was kind of obnoxiously loud but overall I'm not complaining about all the free coffee that I could drink (yay!!). Although the TV channels provided were as basic as can be, that didn't matter too much as I just streamed what I wanted on my laptop or phone. Okay, I noticed another commenter mentioning the bad wifi, they're not altogether wrong! Finally, a word on wheelchair accessibility of the room itself: It seemed to me like the room had been retrofitted to be wheelchair accessible. This isn't a problem in theory, but in practice they got a few things wrong. I'm lucky that I divide my time between using a walker for short distances, and a wheelchair for long distances. Here's what they got wrong: 1) Getting in the bathroom from the front foyer of the room seemed difficult, if not impossible. Again, I used my walker in the room, so it wasn't a problem during my stay. 2) When I was in the bathroom in a sitting position in front of the mirror, I couldn't see my face. This was a problem for things like flossing and shaving. Thankfully, my wife ended up dropping off a little stand-up counter-top mirror so I used that when I needed to. 3) Manoeuvring the wheelchair, once inside the room, was just difficult in general. It's a really tight space and they do a wheelchair user NO favours by sticking 2 queen-sized beds in there to take up so much space. That's it! Not a terrible experience, but also not an amazing one. Average hotel, some dilapidation here and there, service is decent, has an ok pool, and people actually work out in the gym. My two gripes is that the bathroom has poor ventilation and I found a bug (I suppose I should be thankful it wasn't a bedbug). Updated review to add a star. They have renovated the rooms (at least some of them) and it is a big improvement. Bed and pillows are now comfortable. Wifi is much better than before. I wasn't charged for parking this time. Apparently my corporate rate included either parking or bfast. That being said, my corporate rate is still high (I can stay at the shangrila downtown for the same price!) Location is very convenient if you need to be in this area. Lots of restaurants close by. This Novotel may be a little strange to a novice traveler. I've stayed on hotels all over the U.S. and Europe. Novotel tries hard to be "Euro." We made reservations online, which were a little tricky, but once we arrived in the lobby we had no problems checking in. You can park right under the hotel (easy access at the front doors), but there is a fee. The room was clean and not too cramped, but you can tell they are due for a renovation. We had no serious problems though. It was quiet and the water was hot. We chose this hotel based on a balance of price and location. It is more affordable than downtown Toronto, but you have to take the metro rail to get from North York to the downtown area. The hotel is attached to a mall, so you can go out the back of the hotel into a mall and have a selection of eateries and some shops. Walk a little further and you can take the escalator down to the rail and downtown is about a 30 minute ride. Decent place for tourists to stay if you have no fear of navigating cities by metro systems. read more

I had the opportunity to stay at the Novotel Hotel North York for the first time the Friday evening of the long weekend in August. The experience was passable but not a hotel that at this point I would be quick to recommend if other options fit. If you need a place to lay your head that is clean, safe and typically less expensive then hotels in the city core, this location will serve just fine. But if looking for anything beyond that you may want to look at other properties. Pros: Check in was fast, friendly and efficient, the lobby warm, welcoming, modern and bright. With easy access to the TTC's Young-University-Spadina (Yellow) subway line via indoor connection to the North York Center station, transit to and from downtown was simple, inexpensive and stress free. (They really do need better signage or direction somewhere regarding how to find the hotel upon arrival at the station as the hotel is so close that it is actually a bit tricky to find at first.) Room was spacious, and well appointed (Coffee maker, large screen TV, fridge, safe, iron & board, etc) with décor that is relatively modern, trendy and upbeat. King bed was extremely comfortable, with high quality linens that appeared to be well maintained Free Wifi internet access Great morning breakfast buffet, well presented and the restaurant staff were all friendly, welcoming and all around pleasant to deal with. (They hire people who like people...and it shows! Thank you!) And of course due to location, often less expensive then similar range hotels downtown or other parts of the city depending on occupancy rates and events etc. Cons: Although clean, the guest floors are turning the corner and starting to look shabby. Both my room and the hallways are starting to feel tired and warn. My room although decorated well needed a lot of work. Wall paper in the bathroom was bubbling, walls have marks on them in places, some of the furniture is looking warn etc. Bath tub needed help! I took two showers during my stay and the tub did not drain at all, 8 hours after taking the first I found myself standing in ankle deep water for the second as the water had not drained out at all. By the time I was finished my second the waterline was literally up my calves. Room not sound proof at all. I could hear every conversation in the hall and nearby as though they were in the room with me. ("Laura" your boyfriend sounds like a jerk...get out while you can!) Hotel is quite far from downtown and most things a leisure traveler would like to be close to. (35-40 min by Subway or $20-$40 cab ride during non-peak hours) So if you are the kind of person that wants to be able to run back and forth to your hotel a lot and be in the heart of things this might not be the best location for you. read more

I stay here about once a month for a few days for work. The location is great since it's connected to the subway line and work is just a few blocks down the road. That's kind of all I've got for positives. I'm not really sure what the deal is with the smell in the lobby, but it's very distinct and it's there every time I check in. I can't tell if it's from the Trio restaurant, and I honestly don't know if I like it or not. I'll give a prize to anyone who can name that smell. Something to note for US travelers. They don't do a top sheet unless you ask. If you care enough, I think they leave one in the closet for you to do it yourself. Anyway I find the staff nice enough and the rooms to be older but clean. One really inexplicable check-in incident: I came in late on a Monday night and realized that my stupid-ass had booked for Tuesday - Thursday instead of Monday - Wednesday. I figured, how busy could this place be? As it turns out, busy. The front desk clerk claimed that they were sold out. I mean this was all totally my bad so I asked him what my options were. He then "looked again" and said he could find a room for me but he'd have to go and clean it himself. Okay, appreciate that. But also, terribly confusing. It's 9pm on a Monday night and you are "sold out"... but apparently not really? Also, there's a room at 9pm that's still dirty for some reason even though you're sold out? Isn't check-out, even late check-out by 4pm? Are the maids done before then? Mysterious. Regardless, I was happy not to have to sleep on the floor of my office building to cover up my lack of attention to detail. read more

Am staying in an Executive King suite, and I think it makes a major difference in your experience here. These rooms have just been renovated in winter 2015, and everything looks nearly brand new and modern. Bathroom features a walk-in shower with rain shower head and a handheld version, with brown ceramic tiling and a glass wall that covers the front half of the shower to keep the water in. There's a large, mirror lined with light bulbs embedded inside the mirror itself, providing a perfect spot for makeup application. The miniature toiletries are Novotel's house brand (soap, shampoo, shower gel, etc.) if you care about that sort of thing. The bed's headboard also has a similar lighting, minus the mirror part, of course. In the room itself, there's also a tiny bar fridge with a clear glass door, showing you the two complimentary bottles of Nestle Pure Life water upon check-in, along with two packets of Starbucks Instant Verona / Decaf Verona blends that you can use in the coffee brewer. The bed is plushy, comfortable, and stain-free. It really is a quite modern-looking room, with minimal furnishings. Parking is $18 / day. Skip the breakfast buffet, has a couple yogurts, fruit cubes, scrambled eggs (which I think originate from the powdered format), bacon, sausage, hard-boiled eggs, and some breakfast pastries. Meh. For $15 or whatever, you can take your pick from just about anything from Starbucks or the food court in the attached mall. Regardless, staff is friendly and the stay itself has been enjoyable. Have yet to visit the pool, but will give an update once I take a peek! read more

Overall, my experience here was mediocre at best. The price is relatively low, but I really should have done more research before just booking it. My biggest issue was that the hotel rooms are just not very clean. I found hair in the shower that was not mine. EWW!! One of my co-workers travelling with me found candy (not his) behind the curtain. The shower didn't drain, so I stood ankle-deep in soapy water in the morning. The beds were actually fairly comfortable. The WiFi was my biggest complaint: it was so spotty and ridiculously slow that trying to do any work was nearly impossible. Forget trying to watch a video online or anything that takes just a bit more bandwidth. Maybe I've just gotten spoiled, but I really expected a lot more for the price. read more

The best hotel value when visiting Toronto! Every decent hotel downtown is ridiculously expensive. Novatel North York was decently priced and is in the same building as the metro, so it's a direct 30 minute metro ride to Union Station without having to step outside. So much of Toronto is near metro stops to make this super-convenient. . Some info: 1. A short walk to Loblaws shopping center for all the food and beer/wine you need. Keep in mind the in room fridge doesn't go beyond somewhat cold - even milk spoiled in there over a few days. 2. air conditioning in rooms doesn't work so well. 3. taxi to/from Billy Bishop airport is cheaper via local streets. If the driver asks you if you want to take the highway, refuse. 4. some of the staff were super-nice, specifically the maid and a member of the restaurant staff. read more

I was recommended to stay here for a business trip, so I didn't do any research before booking. However for the price (around $150 canadian a night), I was really underwhelmed. The hotel itself is pretty trendy/nice, but the rooms feel a bit rundown. One thing that really bugged me the whole trip was that the bathroom toiletries didn't include lotion. As an international traveler who didn't pack any, and it was the middle of winter, my hands got really dry! A quality hotel located near the northern part of Toronto. The hotel is a mix of Euro/Canadian flair, possessing a modern bathroom and nice room layout. The price points were fair and represent good value. The beds were surprising comfortable and the room was quite clean. The staff were friendly, but I did not test their respective knowledge. If you want to enjoy the Jersey Boys production, this is the hotel to stay at. Its just a few minutes away on foot. My first stay at the Novotel. I was there on business and it was very convenient to my work location. Traffic is fairly heavy, and there's tons of construction around the hotel itself which makes navigating less than ideal. However, there are plenty of restaurants and shopping options within walking distance so this balances the construction. The hotel itself is nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. Parking is easy, with a garage under the hotel. I didn't use the metro but heard it was easily accessed. The lobby is clean; one elevator was out my entire visit so you generally waited for an elevator at the busier times of the day and I didn't notice the hotel to be overly crowded. The room was comfortable, especially the bed. I agree with other posters - the WiFi is slow and spotty which makes work impossible from the hotel. While I could access the network my first 3 nights (Mon - wed), the 4th night (Thurs) was horrid and I couldn't sign on at all. There's a restaurant in the lobby with a buffet breakfast in the morning, though it's a bit pricey for cold eggs and bacon, some fruit and a broad bread selection. I had dinner there one night and it was ok. Nothing extraordinary but we were tired and didn't feel like going "out." We stay here 2 to 3 times per year because it's the closest hotel to my mother in law's retirement home we come to visit. Staff is pretty friendly but don't ask for anything special. The WiFi is bad, bad, bad! Some of the rooms have been renovated but a serious problem remains: in the double bed rooms the water temperature is very difficult to adjust and you have to take a big step to get into the slippery bathtub in order to take a shower. I stayed here while attending some training for my job for a week. I was pretty pleased with the hotel overall. The free breakfast was nice, if for no other reason than I cant be bothered to hunt down a meal first thing in the morning. The room was modern but comfortable and I quite enjoyed the softness of the mattress. And the staff was friendly. It gets spurts of internet so email is fine, but I can't do ANY other work. Might have to head back into the office... - The plumbing doesn't seem old, but it's not very good. Every possible drain needs servicing. They all drain slowly. - The thermostat seems to misread, but so long as it's not broken, it's all good. I have to set the temperature to 77 to get it to heat up. I'm used to having rooms at 68. - This place needs a TON more lights. A desk lamp and a bed light is not enough. - Bed squeaks really badly. - Carpeting is old and improperly set. - Walls are super thin. - No free breakfast (dependent on your rate/contract) - ATM in the hotel lobby doesn't seem to work with US ATM cards. - Uninformed front desk. No one knew where the next ATM was. When I stepped outside to wander, there were TWO attached to the center, and an HSBC across the street. - Front desk does not seem to know what they are doing. My colleague got locked out when stepping out for a call. The front desk just threw up their hands and said they couldn't do anything without ID, and couldn't do anything. Ok... here's a standard hotel practice. Have someone accompany the guest to their room. Once the door is open, verify ID, and all is good. - Pricey, no free water, no club lounge, poor TV reception. - Odd foreign charges on my card DURING my stay, but this may not be the hotel's fault. read more

This was a nice one-night stay in Toronto, about 20min away from downtown by subway. The subway station is in the same building which was awesome, we didn't have to go far to find one. The room looked great and modern at first glance, but it definitely needs some updates. No USB charging station, old plugs (for iPhone 4 and older / iPods), the TV didn't really work well (partially my fault bc I didn't go look for a manual, but it's a TV. I shouldn't need one?!) and WiFi didn't work at all. Maybe it was my phone's issue and I realized I could have asked. But we only stayed one night and it didn't seem worth going through the hassle of dealing with it. But the bed was comfortable and the room/bathroom was clean. read more

This is a rad little hotel in Toronto! It was my first experience in Toronto and I thought this was great place to stay! It's so close to the metro which makes it easy to commute anywhere and the staff are very friendly! I was welcomed to my room with M&M's yumm, and a big comfy bed with lots of fluffy pillows! They have a great little lounge in the hotel and lots of plug ins to charge your electronic devices. The train is just downstairs which is a HUGE plus when it's January and the temp is -11. Outstanding service in the hotel overall but especially the restuarant. This is one of my favourite go to hotels. The price for one night varies depending on the location. The Novotel in North York is very reasonably priced compared to other hotels of its quality. I like the modern decor of the rooms, they have the amenities that most hotels have and I've never had a problem with the customer service. Having said that, we always book the room through the hotel itself. Also, if you spend the Saturday night there, you could get a free late check out on Sunday afternoon around 5pm if they aren't busy. read more

The staff is very friendly and nice location. That's the only plus here. Bathrooms are majority handicap, with a chair in the shower, makes showering very awkward. With that said, the rubber strip in the shower allows for a lot of water to leak out of shower. Air condition in the whole hotel is nonexistent. Here at the end of May with temperatures in the high 80's to low 90's makes very a hot stay. Beds are comfortable, but expect stained sheets and maybe get lucky like me and get paint droppings on the sheet you sleep on. Also towels have stains. Rooms are very small with no drawers to store your clothes. Not impressed and will be never stay here again. With this prime location this hotel has great potential but is really lacking. We stay here every time we come to Toronto to the Rogers Cup tennis. The location is great, hotel is reasonably priced and very convenient. Parking under the hotel, subway station right there too, if you want to go downtown. Tennis half an hour's drive. Rooms have fridge, safe and coffee maker, everything works. Not a luxury hotel but bed comfortable, bathroom fine, nothing to complain about. read more
