this has been my regular afternoon tea spot for as long as i can remember. i've celebrated many significant milestones in shangri-la, which makes this hotel feel very personal to me. i still remember when the tea sets were much cheaper -- these days they're closer to $100 per person -- but it still feels like a place worth coming back to. the finger snacks options are always magnificent. they consistently have scones on hand, paired with great spreads and complex, well-thought-out flavours and designs. i also appreciate how customizable everything is, especially when it comes to dietary needs -- it never feels like you're missing out. the tea quality has been pretty consistent over the years. that said, they do rotate their offerings, and a few of my old favourites are no longer on the menu. they often bring in seasonal selections for the holidays, cny, or special partnerships (like with the ballet). one small change i've noticed is that they used to let you opt out of the bubbly, but now it seems to be included by default. the ambiance is always a highlight for me. the space has great vibes, and the live pianist always elevates the whole experience. since this review is placed in the whole hotel on yelp, i could also mention that the rooms are absolutely wonderful, paired with spacious bathrooms and wonderful amenities. beds and beddings are super comfortable as always. the bathroom products have changed, however... they used to have more luxurious offerings. the gyms are big for a hotel gym. the spa... oh man, the hammam?! *chefs kiss* the pools used to be great but now they seem a bit too crowded with kids for my liking. the hotel in general seems to have more families and kids roaming around compared to when i first started coming here a decade ago... front desk staff to bellboys are all A+. they always make leaving a staycation so hard! i can go on and on about this place. read more

Asian inspured high tea menu was explained very well and was enjoyable. Came here to Shangri-La to try their Afternoon tea set, which did not disappoint. The ambience, the elegantly decorated lobby and the live piano music in the background, truly made this experience worthwhile. Shangri-La, no doubt, has probably one of the best menus I've seen, especially with their Asian-focused flavours. From their savoury to baked goods, every bite was delicious. For the tea, we went with the Tie Guan Yin and the Assam Cherideo Purbat Estate, which were both great choices. They provide unlimited hot water so you can have multiple cups throughout your stay. The stand-outs were definitely the savouries, with the Chinkiang Vinegar Glazed Chicken and Red Thai Curry Duck Croquette being my favourites. However, the Wagyu Beef Bao and East Coast Lobster Banh Mi were excellent too! For Afternoon Tea, my favourite part is eating a warm scone with some creme fresh and jam. Here, they even provide a tiny jar of honey for you to use, along with a delicious chrysanthemum jam! The Shangri-La Signature Scone was a tad underwhelming as I was expecting something more unique, but the quality of the scones was still great. The desserts each had a unique flavour profile and texture, with the pistachio egg tart and madeleine being my favourites. I was not a fan of the lucky cube, however, as the texture was a bit off-putting for me. I would definitely come back when they have a new menu in rotation. Shangri-La is a luxury hotels chain founded in Singapore and headquartered in Hong Kong. This location in Toronto is worth visiting but I highly recommend you get an upgraded room/suite. The complimentary green tea, when you check in, is a nice gesture. The room was small and it was in need for an update. The bathroom was great and overall the stay was pleasant. Compared to FS or MO, I would go with the latter ones. read more

The Shangri-La Hotel is a great place to stay in downtown Toronto. The building is elegant and understated. There is live piano music almost all the time - there is group music with singing in the evenings. The level of service is very high. All personnel have been trained to deliver top notch customer service - and they do! If you want to feel pampered, then the Shangri-La is the place for you. This hotel felt like an oasis in the hustle and bustle of a large international city. The moment our car drove into the covered circle driveway, I felt like I had arrived at a high end hotel. The rooms was likewise high end and luxurious. Especially the bathroom which was huge! It was nicely stocked with great personal products (shampoo, conditioner, skin cream, etc.). My one comment about the personal products is that the free standing bottles are unwieldy; when your hands are wet and soapy, it is difficult to depress the dispensers. The bottles are not fixed in place; rather, they all sit on a shelf. That requires that you use both hands in order to dispense the product - this should be corrected. You will NOT want for marble - it is everywhere! The towels are thick and very nice. I have only the highest opinion of the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto. One caveat, however - the physical plant (furniture, wall coverings, carpets, etc.) are starting to feel dated. Some of the furniture was old, dented and very clearly used. The bathroom only had 1 sink - in a bathroom of this size, there should have been 2 sinks. The walk-in shower is too small. These are signs that the hotel is due for a pretty big refresh soon. If the Shangri-La wants to remain on the top list of hotels, it will need to modernize and renovate. But, still, even with that in mind, I would certainly stay at the Shangri-la Hotel again if I need to be in downtown Toronto! I highly recommend the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto! read more

Went here for afternoon tea for my friend's bachelorette party; conveniently located downtown core in a beautiful building. The culinary experience was amazing! So much thought and effort was put into each of the pastries, however I would definitely recommend checking the menu because 90% of the items in this afternoon tea experience was made of chocolate! (A lot of chocolate to be consuming for the early morning with tea). You can definitely tell the precision and dedication that went into each of the desserts. They also were very accommodating with dietary restrictions. The interior decor was beautiful, however I will call out that the seating arrangement was a bit strange as it is in the lobby of the hotel so there was no formal seating arrangement/area. I'm not sure if I would go back, but I would recommend the experience for anyone looking to try fine dining pastries :) read more

This hotel is amazingly beautiful and stylish! The customer service is beyond exceptional, with everyone being extremely courteous and gracious. We decided to stay here as it was offered as part of a hotel package for Caribana..and compared to the other hotels offered, this was among the priciest options, and it was well worth it!!! The rooms are large and the bathrooms are spacious and elegantly laid out. The large shower, the huge tub, the double vanity sink with an enormous mirror, the private bathroom stall, and multiple options for ceiling and mirror lighting-this bathroom is an absolutely dream! They also offer different types of pillows and essential oils to be sprayed on your pillows for extra rest and relaxation. The room service food was THE best hotel food Ive ever had. Many nights we dined in our hotel room, because honestly it was that good. I could've eaten in our room every night! And presentation was also a culinary experience. The gym is nice and offers plenty of equipment, and there's an indoor lap pool, which is kept clean, and a hot tub, a steam room located within the locker room, and a dry sauna located by the pool. The individual cabanas surrounding the pool are a nice retreat equipped with a tv and bluetooth speaker. However, the cabanas need a fan, or something that provided more circulation of air. My fellow yelpers..I apologize for not taking any pics, but you have to see this hotel for yourself..and their lobby is also jaw dropping! We were told by our concierge to book an afternoon tea on our next return. I don't want to even consider staying anywhere else when I return to Toronto. Highly recommend!! read more

After checking allergies four times to be sure, they still fed my daughter her allergen. She knew with the first bite, before a server came back to say oops. That server coming back to our table to explain why it was not her fault - which made it worse. The Manager did check on my daughter several times (and comped our entire afternoon tea without being asked). The hotel is beautiful! Great amenities and the spa treatments are all recommended! Check out the pillow menu in the nightstand drawer. Don't waste your time on the high tea. Food was not good. We had a Mother's Day / spring menu but in general, pastries are trying too hard. If you are vegan/ vegetarian there are extremely limited options as every single sweet has gelatin. read more

I had a lovely time at Shangri-La's Afternoon Tea experience. I booked the afternoon tea experience for two - which is currently Cirque Du Soleil themed, in partnership for their show KOOZA. I was informed the savories and pastries were designed with the acts of the show, which I thought was fun and unique. The lounge area a Shangri-la is formidable, but my eyes were instantly drawn to the Guo Pei gown that Rihanna had worn to the 2015 Met Gala. I was lucky enough to be seated right in front of it, to my ultimate joy. Our server for the majority of the experience was Al, who was an absolute angel. He patiently explained every course of our experience, and was so light-hearted and kind. His presence definitely elevated our experience, and I really appreciate his efforts for that. Out of all the savories and pastries offered in this experience, my favorites were 'the wheel of death' (egg savory) and the sweet mystery boxes, 'white' and 'gold'. I was also so pleased with my choice of tea, the Shangri-La Signature Blend black tea. I was also celebrating my birthday, and every staff I had encountered sweetly wished me a happy birthday. It's a simple gesture, but it made me feel very special. I cannot wait to see what the next upcoming Afternoon Tea theme will be, as I think this would be a great experience for an upcoming Mother's Day, birthday or bridal shower. read more

Came here for Madame Clicquot Afternoon Tea at the Lobby Lounge! A great experience featuring tower of scones, savouries, desserts, a glass of Prosecco or mock tail,and of course tea! Scones - I forgot to take a picture of the scones, but they were buttery, fresh, delicious! The fresh preserves was the perfect pairing. Savouries - My favourite savoury item was the smoked salmon. It tasted great with the potato bread. The egg salad was creamy, shrimp was soft, and the cucumber was very refreshing on a bed of crunchy brioche. Sweets - Not only were these desserts all delicious, but each one was unique. The details on the chocolate rim of the grapefruit tart was my favourite. The rose and peach mousse was so cute! The shell of the peach was white chocolate. The tonka bean mousse had many layers but the bottom layer had a tasty crunch. I loved this entire plate. RATINGS Menu 5/5 - This was my first time having pâté. It was served in a cut out slice of bread , a mushroom jelly, mustard, and veggies. I don't believe pâté is particularly my cup of tea, but I did enjoy this one! Tea & Mocktail 5/5 I chose the Lapsang tea which had a smoky flavour. The tea was very rich and unique. I am normally a green tea person, but this time I decided to try a black tea. I loved this flavour and would get it again. My mother got the biluo green tea which again was very rich with a hint of floral. They also have fruity flavoured teas for those who prefer that. You can ask for more hot water and refill the tea pot that they give you. I enjoyed around 3-4 cups and was very satisfied! At the start of the experience, we had a choice of Prosecco or a elderberry mocktail. We chose the mocktail and it was a great drink to enjoy before getting into the tiers of treats! ATMOSPHERE 5/5 Shangri-La provided a nice atmosphere for afternoon tea. The setup is in the hotel lobby lounge. We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from a Friday-Sunday and were able to book this hotel through American Express fine hotels and resorts so we got a 100 hotel credit and early/late check in. We also had free breakfast for 2 every day. The rooms are very simplistic if that is your preference. We booked one of the suites, which was very large with a decent view of Toronto. As for the hotel itself, its very beautiful. I thought the hotel lobby itself would be larger, but it seemed very small to me. Small lobby with a bar and a restaurant. They also play live music in the lobby, but every time we tried to get a seat they were all booked which was very annoying, I wish I would of known this beforehand so that I could of reserved a seat. The breakfast, my goodness was so so delicious. I highly recommend their English breakfast and French toast. Their French toast is by far the best Ive had ever. So if you have Amex, I recommend booking it through their website so you can get all of these perks. Overall, great experience, beautiful rooms, delicious breakfast and great services! I came here for high tea for a special occasion. I didn't like the ambiance here. It was in an open space of the hotel lobby, pretty noisy. The high tea was definitely overpriced with small portion and we left half full. The desserts were decent and sandwich was nothing special. There are quite a few better high tea choices in town which have greater value of money. I would not consider revisiting for high tea. read more

I recently attended a wedding and I will share my experience here. The setting is very nice, the room has high ceilings and window everywhere looking out and the terrace has good view of the downtown surrounding building. The open bar and waiting area is a bit small for 100. There is no sitting arrangement at the entrance where guest can mingle and wait. No decoration either for taking pictures. No coat check either. Service is ok, a bit late not a big problem unless people arrive early. Food is really bad, part of it I think may be due to dishes selected. There are a lot of other better choices such as lobster bisque $5+, beef tenderloin $10+, veal tenderloin, halibut, scallop with no additional cost. However for a 5 star hotel regardless of what dish the quality of the food and cooking should be excellent otherwise it shouldn't be included in the food package at all. I only finish 1/3 of the salad, not enough dressing & design of ingredients is not good and 1/2 of the entree, short rib which is so dry. read more

Went here for high tea with my best friend two years ago. The lobby is beautiful. I was so enthralled by the water feature built into the floor! There was live piano music and we were seated by the fireplace (even though it was summer). We went with the peppermint tea and Sita Chai. I'm not a tea person (shocker for an Indian girl) but this was AMAZING and refreshing. Loved the chocolate notes in the Sita Chai. The sandwiches were a little bit bland, wasn't too crazy for the desserts but the scones were heaven and I'm still obsessed with them! read more

I like the piano bar idea, but the music was up beat and wasn't relaxing. It was already pretty loud since it was the lobby area, so thought it would be a nice soothing music. The food was good. Polite staff, but poor follow-thru. The first room we were assigned had a crumbly grout problem in the shower, so I called to report the issue. After we returned from dinner, we attempted to retrieve our room voicemail / answering desk machine which was an utter fail, so I dialed 0 again and asked for the message, which was that we would get a different Shangri-La room assigned to us - as grout takes 24 hours to dry. While packing our things for the room switch, the electronic curtains closed on their creepy own. Do you believe in ghosts? Anyway our second room is in a cute corner - a tad smaller closet - with nice views of University. Be sure to request some bath salts for the tub! I had to ask two times for something to use for the bathtub - they should put out bath salts for starters instead of waiting for you to ask a few times. The pillow menu by the bed was a nice touch, but maybe put the pillows in the closet instead of having to figure out how to order that wonderful-sounding lavender pillow. Our second room on the 10th floor also has weird quirks. The bathroom is downright chilly with a few heated tiles on the floor. The Nespresso machine makes a ton of noise and yields no coffee. All the windows and blinds once again closed on their own without any prompting - we were standing in the middle of the room. Nice and creepy! There is a ghost on the 10th floor of the Shangri-La and it likes to close all the curtains and blinds on you. Now what do I mean by follow-thru? We got polite affirmation to requests like a lunch reservation time change for Momofuku, or a confirmation that we got late check-our approved. But we had to check back in to our reservation. And at least two different Shangri-La staff have knocked on our door (set for private) and said their system doesn't reflect the late check-out we confirmed. Underwhelmed. read more

I have visited a lot of hotels in my life, and I must say that I have rarely seen such a level of service as the one offered by Shangri-La Toronto, everything was perfect! We arrived before the check-in time and were immediately directed to our room. Our room was spacious with a high level of comfort, my son particularly liked the little attention of the teddy bear left on his pillow and the bathroom, with the build-in TV screen into the mirror. Speaking of attention, the room service brought a balloon with a surprise to my son, and I must say that from the top of his 11 going on 15 years old, he was very happy. The bathroom alone was worth the detour, the toilet separated from the shower and the bath are well thought out. For my part, I really appreciated the Occitane bath salts (extra points often lie in the details). We then went for a swim at the pool, the area was empty so we stayed there quite awhile. In terms of design and view on Toronto downtown, this spot is amazing! There is also a sauna and a smaller pool (little bummer, there was no child-size bathrobe). Also, the adjacent gym, is really well equipped, I went there around 10pm and enjoyed my time there. Finally, the checkout was quick, I frankly have nothing negative to say, our stay was A ++ from beginning to end ... I will return for sure. read more

Came to Shangri-La for the first time doing High Tea with a few university friends for some reunion time. It's in the Lobby Lounge, so in terms of space it is definitely a bit louder only because there is traffic in the lobby when people walk around. HOwever depending on where you sit you could be away from some of that noise. We reserved for 5 people and they put us kind of in a long U shape, which we didn't find that comfortable, so after a while, one of the girls moved to the opposite side so it was more of a shorter U and people could talk across each other with less awkwardness. For 40 dollars per person (there is a 2 hour seating limit), each of us gets one pot of tea - basiaclly anything in the 15 dollar range is included and any of the other choices you just pay the difference to upgrade. They had many types of tea, and for people who like to pair foods with tea, it usually starts from the bolder teas and then to the lighter teas at the end. I love bolder teas, so naturally i went with a dark tea - royal earl gray. My other friends ordered the Chai, vanilla rooibos and earl green. The teapots are quite large, and they have a little tray to filter out any tea leaves as you pour the tea into your cup. I drink a lot of tea, so naturally i did finish the pot, and i asked htem to refill it with some more water, but obviously second time around the tea was much tamer. They give you milk to serve with tea if you like. My friends had a number of restrictions; one of them coudlnt' do seafood, the other two wanted vegetarian options, so when they brought us our food, they did it so that all of us had the same top two tiers, but it was the bottom tier that was different. Regular choice was curred lobster roll with chicken salad SW, cucumber SW and an egg SW with some deli meat on it. My friend who doens't eat pork/seafood, had a tomato filling in her roll, along with the same egg salad SW without the deli meat. My two other friends who wanted vegetarian had the tomato filling roll as well, cucumber SW, egg SW and a roasted mushroom SW in place of chicken salad. As for the top two tiers, all of us shared the same items. HOwever, becuase it was 2 and 3, we had a bit of a rough time trying to separate into 3 portions; in the end two of the items we split into 4 anyway and then whoever wanted a second piece took it. I started at the bottom tier and ate the SW, the curried lobster roll and the open egg salad SW. egg salad is what you would expect, but the bit of deli meat on top gave it a nice twist. the chicken salad was good. i loved the cucumber SW. But the curried lobster roll really hit the spot. it was delicious! IN the middle tier was two types of scones with jam and butter. delicious. the scones were soft and fell apart easily when you cut it open, plus some of the butter and jam, it was a perfect match. The top tier i saved for last, because it was all the sweets. They had this mango mousse with some kind of apricot filling in the middle , shaped in a dome. delight to eat, it was very good. They also had an eclair that had some caramel and nuts infused into the creme and it was really good. they also had one piece of what i would call to be a tart napoleon. i'm not a huge fan of napoleon myself, but i liked the tart factor which gave it a nice twist. lastly, we each had a little cup of chocolate mousse with some chocolated coated crackle on top. I had a feeling that was the most decadent so i did save it for last... it was indeed a wise choice :) All in all, the atmosphere was quite lovely. After we sat for a while, someone actually opened up the piano and had played for a while - quite enjoyed that music! Also we were seated near a fireplace, the decor was very pretty, chairs were not as comfortable (we all ended up sitting at the edge). but the food, service was excellent and all of us were suprisingly walking away super full (none of us had really eaten lunch prior to the high tea). From beginning of my stay to the moment I checked out, my stay was fantastic. The Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto feels upscale and looks beautiful. The lobby is an open area with a grand piano and fire place. In the day, guests sit around reading the paper and chatting. At night, it's lively and people listen to live music while sipping on fancy drinks. The room was exceptionally clean. I actually checked out the floors and corners since I have a baby staying in the room with me. Amenities were excellent and the décor was stylish/comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. I dealt with about 5 different people and they were all wonderful. No complaints! read more

Shrangri-La is a high end Hotel Chain that originated from China and the Toronto location is one of the two only properties found the Americas(both North and South). These hotels are the best examples of modern day palaces, this location did not disappoint. After a long and stressful day of traveling we decided to head over to the lounge located in the hotel lobby.The hotel has a very modern oriental feel and there was a live band playing all types of classic rock songs from Sting, the Rolling Stones and many other rock legends. It was super busy and happening, but the hostess helped us find a seat and we were seated after a few minutes. They have a full bar and we decided to order two pisco sours, which were very refreshing but missing the typical Peruvian touch. Then we ordered kobe beef sliders, shrimp with scallop dumplings, and a side of french fries. The kobe sliders were delicious, the meat was perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned, while the buns were nice and crunchy, the french fries were a good companion. The dumplings were larger than usual and you can taste the shrimp and scallop while the texture was nice and smooth. For dessert we had the pineapple and banana sponge cake, and in my personal opinion that was one of the beautiful looking desert I ever seen (yeah and it was really good too).I wish so bad we can get a Shrangi-La property in the US, especially here in South Florida.The staff are like your own personal assistant and they never say no to any request. This review is for the high tea at the Shangri-La. This was my first time doing afternoon tea at a hotel and my experience at the Shangri-la was just fabulous. Reservations are required and if I remember correctly they require your credit card information. The tea is served in the lobby lounge daily from 2-6 pm. The setting was quite opulent and had a relaxed ambience. We were seated near the back corner with a nice view of the fireplace and piano. The signature tea is $65 and includes finger sandwiches, scones, tea pastries and a glass of prosseco. Come hungry as its a lot of food. The presentation of the tea and the food which comes in a 3 tier tray was gorgeous. All of the food was delicious. The only thing they could have done slightly better was the scone ... I felt the texture was a little bit off. At some point into tea the piano player arrived and we had some beautiful music to enjoy for a while. I was being extra and wore a red fascinator because where else does one wear a fascinator if not during high tea ... so ladies this is your chance to be extra. Valet parking was $25. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Having done my research of the other high tea places in Toronto I think this one is the best in terms of environment, value for money, quality and quantity of food. Asian inspired Afternoon High Tea is served at Shangri-La Hotel Lobby Lounge daily from 2-5pm. When you are first seated, you are given a glass of Prosecco champagne. After that you have a selection of 75 different teas to choose from. They are constantly changing their High Tea menu according to season. But it comes with a selection of finger sandwiches, tea pastries and warm scones. The finger sandwiches were mediocre not as flavourful as I was hoping for. Our most favourite part of the high tea were the desserts, they were well presented and delicious. This is a beautiful tranquil lounge with live pianist performance, a fireplace, large scale paintings and sculptures. Service is courteous and helpful. The location is perfect in downtown Toronto....walking distance to several restaurants and theatres. There is an entrance on University Ave but the car entrance is from Simcoe St. At check in we were given some Jasmine tea while the agent spoke with us. We told him (Patrick)our stay was paid for by friends for our birthdays and anniversary. Later that night we returned to our room to find champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Our deluxe room was not ready when we arrived but an executive deluxe accessible room was available so we took it at no extra charge. The shower was big with a large opening d/t being accessible and other than not having a tub, the room was fine. Closet with safe and nespresso machine for coffee and tea. Bottled water was complimentary but there was a charge for sparkling water. The toiletries were l'occitane brand and they gave toothbrushes and toothpaste too. There is a beautiful spa, gym, pool/cabanas/hot tub/and infrared sauna on the 5th floor. A restaurant and lobby lounge with live music on the first floor. You need room key to access the elevator floors and there is a condo on the upper floors. It is very expensive but location is great! read more

The Lobby Lounge at the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto is definitely a great place to relax and have a few drinks. Beyond the great upscale cozy lounge atmosphere with live entertainment and multiple fireplaces, the service is fantastic. Their desserts are to die for! The presentation is absolutely gorgeous and the flavour profiles are super delicious. It may be a little pricey for some but you may change your mind once you try it. Everything I tasted was lick-the-plate good! I stayed here recently for my friends' wedding. Shangri-La is a 5 star hotel chain that only has 2 locations in North America (Vancouver and Toronto) and having never stayed at one, I figured it was about time. The service at check in was very good and I was given complimentary jasmine tea during it. I was also able to book a ride back to the airport for a few days later which was able to be charged to the room. That was nice. The room itself is pretty nice. Everything can be controlled through the iPad that comes with the room - the lights, the temperature, the drapes, etc. You can also make spa reservations, laundry requests, etc on there too. The room itself I didn't feel was quite 5 star quality but it was still nice. The bathroom however was 5 star quality and had nice L'Occitane products. My mirror had a TV in it which randomly stopped working after changing the channel a few times. Location wise, it's not bad. I think it's more central but the immediate area is anything but exciting. Weirdly enough there was some loud car noise late at night at times. A pretty easy walk to other neighborhoods close by like Chinatown and sporting events to Rogers Centre and Scotiabank Arena. Also, the main entrance is not on the same street as the address. Most of the uber and cab drivers seem to know this but beware. Housekeeping seem good and they do the standard (for 5 star) coming twice a day. They took good care of the room. Overall, it was nice and I'd stay here again. I have never actually stayed at this hotel, only been here a couple of times for events. The lobby is very cool, feels like you are in a movie or something. They usually have the fireplace roaring and tons of chic people hanging out socializing and enjoying cocktails. The last time I was here they also had live music, which was awesome. I have had drinks and food here, both were great. Most recently I was here for a whiskey tasting, which had passed hors d'oeuvres. I loved the pulled duck mini sammies, beef burger sliders and lobster spring rolls. Should also mention the service level of the staff who work here is excellent. If you ask where something is, they physically walk with you to wherever it is you were looking to go. If I ever need to stay in a hotel downtown, I would try this place! read more

Location: 5 Service: 5 Room: 4 Stayed here for two weekends back in June. Like most Shangri-la hotels, this one does not disappoint. Highlight: 1. Great location! Right next to Momofuku and steps away from all sorts of great restaurants, walking distance to Queen St w, walking distance to greyhound station and the TTC. It really can't get more convenient than that. 2. Nice, large bathroom with pristine marble floors. What could be better: 1. This hotel was built in 2012 but the furnitures are showing some age. The oriental elements in the decor is a little bit too chinois-y, could be a bit more subtle (like the Shangri-La in London). 2. It's located at lower floors of the building. I stayed on the 9th floor during my first stay and it was so noisy on Saturday night that I couldn't sleep till 4am. Asked for a higher floor during the 2nd stay and it was much quieter. A very positive experience in general and will choose to come back for future trips in Toronto. TLDR: great quality. Highly recommended. And I need to learn how to be comfortable having tea time with the bros. Or solo. A very nice hotel, but to be honest I didn't stay here. I came here for the afternoon tea. I often went to the soho house around the corner and was told this was a great spot so I found a date and made a reservation. I don't have the balls to show up to a fancy tea by myself or on a bro date so waited to have a special lady. Unnecessary detail, but important to me. Hahah I find the company really impacts your experience. Backstory, I like stories, I'm a huge fan of afternoon tea. My first girlfriend introduced me to it when we were travelling through Hong Kong. Now it's something I search out to find, again, as long as I have good company. That said, I have tried many spots in Toronto, with the help of dating apps. Swipe right if you want tea. Or food. Aesthetic is key. Including the service. The taste of course is the most important. And things should match up well. If the plating and tea are great don't give me cream cheese on white bread. I'd like something delicate and not too heavy. Scones, Generally are my deal breaker. The Shangri-La does well in pretty much every category. It holds up with some of the best. Since the company was lovely and the lighting was great. It was a pretty complete package. Also, they do special teas and menus I think around lunar new year. Enjoy tea lovers! I love the Shangri-La Hotel. The Momofuku Noodle Bar and Momofuku Daishō are fantastic but I'll save that for another review. I came to the Shangri-La Hotel after dinner for some drinks, desserts and live music. It's really nice because they have live music with different artists on most evenings and weekends. We came on a Saturday around 8:30 pm and the lobby area was packed. We did lucked out and found a table. It's first comes first serve no reservations. My aunt and I both ordered the Pino Grigio ($15 each for 5oz)and my other aunt ordered the green tea. Later on in the evening I had the peppermint green tea. They have over 200 selections of tea! We also got the caramel mocha for dessert to share. The dessert was small but very rich. They also have wasabi peas and chips for you to nibble on. The live music started at 9pm and they take breaks in between and it ends at 1 am. That area closes at 2am. The service is amazing. They never rush you to leave even when there's a long line up waiting for seats. I love the line of artists that performed. I've been there 3 times and all three times the artists are so talented. Very relaxing place to go for drinks after a meal or for a date night. The drinks are pricy but seeing that you're there for a while it makes it worth it. The ambiance of the hotel is very soothing and smells so nice. I would highly recommend coming here! read more
