    the damage apparently

Today is my birthday and my sister got me a book that I didn't think I'd enjoy, so me, my sister, and mom go to the store to return the book. I tucked the reciept into the first page and the cover. When we went inside and handed the book to the guy working at the front, he asks if we had the receipt and I say yes and that it's in the front page. He flips through the whole book and then proceeds to hold the book by the front and back page and aggressively shake it. He finds it and said we can look around. He finds us a couple minutes later to tell us the book was damaged and could not be reselled. The book was bought yesterday and never opened. It was only opened when heaggressively shook it. Don't understand how it got damaged. Just go to barnes and noble.

Excellent spot for a bite to eat. I was meeting a group for a lunch meeting. We were seated immediately. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I ordered a salad. Others at the table ordered sandwiches and fruit or French Fries. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. It was all fresh and well prepared and pleasing to the eye. I highly recommend. The prices are slightly higher than I would have expected but the food and service was very good.

Excellent food. Overpriced, smaller quantity. But definitely delicious. Came to read some books and study. Sadly mistaken that a book store would provide tables and chairs for such things.

Full disclosure - I'm a complete bibliophile and bookstore nerd. I read everyday. I say no to invitations to go out drinking because I'd rather stay in and read my library book. I worked at a Barnes & Noble during high school and college so I could have a discount on books. I love bookstores. This bookstore was like no other bookstore I've ever been in (and I think visiting bookstores in cities in which I don't live is a tourist necessity). It's HUGE, it's amazingly well-stocked, it's BEAUTIFUL, IT HAS A BAR AND RESTAURANT INSIDE...I could go on. Seriously, this place is heaven. My husband and brother-in-law had to drag me out when I racked up $100 at the cash register. If I lived in Memphis, I know that novel. would be a place that I would visit constantly. It's not just a bookstore. It's an invaluable part of a vibrant local book culture. Sure, it's got a book you just heard about on NPR. But it's also got knowledgeable booksellers who really love to read and recommend titles AND wonderful local events. I fell in love with this store. And I know that on my next visit to Memphis, I'll be back.

I liked this place. I like the way it was set up, & how they have staff recommended books with little descriptions below them. And there's a ton of stationery. And the bathrooms were clean. And there's a nice little bar. I found the young staff, however, a bit confusing / confused when I asked simple questions. Also, none of the recommended books had well-written, convincing descriptions and most looked like they'd been written by a nine year old. So... there weren't any books I wanted to buy, but I still liked it. Go figure.

Such a fun and lively bookstore. They carry everything book related. Candles, clothing, travel items etc. Staff is so friendly. Such a great atmosphere.

No matter how many times I look at the menu, I always go back to the shrimp and grits. Really good! Highly recommend.

    Ask the Community - novel.

Is this a good place to actually sit and get work done, in addition to reading? How's the seating?

OMG. YES! There are no desks in the book section. There is table seating in the restaurant inside.

I enjoyed my day exploring the books, I was helped by very nice employees who seem to love working there and I would happily return. We stopped by to kill some time before our movie, and I decided to grab some snacks before we leave. The cashier who took our order was not very friendly, and not surprising either given past experiences here. After waiting for a bit, our bakery items still hadn't been handed to us so I went to check. One of the baristas (I believe her name was Courtney?) didn't acknowledge me at first and curtly asked if I had already ordered. I explained that we had a movie in 10 minutes and just needed our bakery items. Instead of simply grabbing them for me, she responded with a rude attitude saying orders are processed in the order received. I would understand if I had ordered a drink but I was just waiting on cookies and a brownie, something that takes zero effort to grab. The interaction could have been handled much better and unfortunately this level of service seems to be the norm here. That being said, aside from the unfriendly baristas, this Barnes & Nobles is clean and well organized.

The service is generally good here, but it isn't staffed nearly as highly as in years past. I like that there's a cafe that offers Starbucks coffee, as well as snacks. I was impressed that there's still a music section that sells CD-s as well as vinyl records. I even ended up buying several CD-s. They were very reasonably priced.

I bought a $100 item for my daughter two days earlier and had the receipt still on me so l asked if I could essentially price match. Really a yes or no answer. I asked if I could purchase the item today on sale and then return it with the previous receipt. Again, yes or no is all I needed. Briana loudly and looking obviously annoyed asked me twice to explain what I was asking. Then said "for all I know you could be lying. You might not even have the item at home. You could have found the receipt in the parking lot." People were looking. She made a big deal embarrassing me over a simple yes or no question. I did not need her to accommodate my request but simply needed her to have good customer service and not cause a scene while stating I'm dishonest. I decided to purchase the item on sale since it was a big percentage off and worth the work of me going home and getting the original purchase to return. However Brianna alerted the cashiers about me and I was confronted when I went to check out. I felt purposely humiliated by her. When I told the lady at the cashier I was simply going to purchase the item, the lady was kind and extremely accommodating but I was disgusted that somehow in the long line of people I was identified as someone to question when I went to check out. Absolutely horrible experience and I hope Brianna is fired.
