I am customer from long ago, when this store was known as Triple Play and located in that old bank on Yale Rd across from the Raleigh Springs Mall. Back when baseball cards and comic books with king. Sometimes I get nostalgic for those teenage years buying comics and Donruss/Fleer cards back in the 90's. Back then I could see things were changing and going more toward the playing card games. I was happy to see this place alive and well, and moved into a better location. I came on a Sunday and yeah it was packed with men playing Magic the Gathering. I saw the old owner, don't remember his name, with his signature glasses and fisherman hat. It was good to see him still at. They still sell some comic books, but obviously that market is dying and frankly lost a lot of old readers who made up the fore fanbase. Still I was very happy to see the old Triple Play, Comic Cellar still around and seemingly thriving. Magic is not a game I play and it's certainly not my crowd, but definitely give this place a chance. It's a cool piece of living history in the local nerd community. read more

I'm new to the Memphis area, and decided to check this shop out. At first glance, it looks pretty great. I stopped by on a Sunday, and there were people playing Magic. And I think they have open boats game day sometimes, too. They've got a pretty good selection of trading cards, comics, D&D miniatures, etc, but they've got a great selection of tabletop games, which is important to me. Very cool. I'll be back. They helped us find the exact game we were looking for, suggested some other that we may want to look at based on our preferences, and told us about their Saturday night game nights. Great place to get newer comics and anime. They have .50 comics there as well if you just need a comic to read. Found some really old comics in the .50 area. They are awesome! Also great place to buy cards, and play card games, as well as anime movies and TV shows. read more

Comics, cards, and board games. I walked in on a magic event when I went, so if you like magic, you'll want to stop here. They have a big selection of cards to buy or barter haha. And some knick knacks. Friendly service and can't judge atmosphere when most of the general quarters was set up for players to compete. read more

As a non-native to the area I was pleasantly surprised to did this shop. Pretty basic as far as selection and variety goes, but plenty of space to hang out or play a game or two with some friends. I was able to get a Doctor Who comic and a Deadpool Classic volume, as well as browse some card and table top games. This is an awesome comic shop. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about comics, games and the like. It may not be huge but they have a great selection. They treat their customers very well and are very accommodating. Though I have not taken advantage of it, there are frequent game nights there which really seem popular. My favorite Memphis area comic shop! That isn't to say that I go here the most or that they have the best selection but Jason's shop is simply my favorite. Why, exactly, that is, is hard to quantify but I think that it mostly has to do with the atmosphere. I've been visiting this store ever since it was Triple Play and since Service Merchandise was still in business and it just feels like a comic shop should feel. My friends love comic books and we made a special trip to this store while we were in the area. They were prepared to make significant purchases from them, but I, who was exploring the world of comics for the first time, picked up a book I thought looked interesting. I sat down and cracked open the book to check it out, and was told to either buy it or stop reading. My friends put their books back, and went across town to purchase them all from a competitor. Comic Cellar has a pretty good selection, both game-wise and comic-wise. His inventory usually includes some harder to find gems, including older CCG's, and his ordering policy for customers is great.
