Great selection of trades and hardcover collected editions. Also picked up some sought after Green Lantern issues. Staff was super friendly and actually knowledgeable about comics (which is oddly hard to find lately). When asked about a specific book, staff immediately went to hunt it down for me. Came in while they were having a game going on and the guy running a place was very rude. He told me my cards were fake without even looking at them. He told me that one I had graded wasn't worth what I had a grade of four and I hadn't told my TCA if you wanna be cheap just be cheap and say I'm gonna be cheap and I'm not gonna give you nothing for these because I'm an asshole. read more

As a teenager who is into comics and superheroes and is also an artist, this store is genuinely one of my favorite stores to go into. It's about a 30 minute drive for me, but it's so worth it! I was pleased by the amazing selection of comics, ranging from the vintage ones all the way up to the new releases. I'm a fan of both, so it's a perfect place for me. And, on top of a huge selection of comics, there are so many other things to have a gander at, such as pins, posters, action figures, dungeons and dragons, puzzles, and SO much more. Even though I was in town last weekend with my boyfriend for this year's Beale Street Music Festival, I was determined not to miss Free Comic Book Day. Luckily, I found Comics and Collectibles on Poplar. I looked at their Facebook page and the store has been around for 26 years. When I went there, the staff were friendly, helpful, and really promoted Free Comic Book Day. They don't watch you like a hawk and you can look around as long as you like. Comics and Collectibles in East Memphis is a great place to get comics, action figures, art books and graphic novels. They've got a decent selection of graphic novels - I picked up a copy of "Fun Home" by Alison Bechdel. Comics and Collectibles also has "Under Pressure", which is the first printed volume of Let's Be Friends Again, a web comic made by Memphians Chris Haley and Curt Franklin. I must confess...I am a geek, just not a huge comic book geek. I didn't know anything about Comics and Collectibles until I happened to be driving through its parking lot on my way somewhere else. It's hidden in a little alcove off of Poplar Avenue. My curiosity got the best of me and I popped in just to see if perhaps there were any old Archie comics stocked. I did love my Betty and Veronica. The place is a lot larger than it appears- there were so many choices! In addition to comics, I found posters, t-shirts and action figures. I was surprised to recognize quite a few comics like Sonic the Hedgehog, the Hulk and Transformers. And oh, did I walk out of there with an Archie collectible? You bet I did. read more

So I am making this account specifically to make this review. Where do I begin??? Well let's start with how they treat you. Very poorly..is being nice. A friend of mine went in there with a discrepancy on his receipt and they did not want to even take it seriously. The friend spent more than 100$ and they then treated him like garbage. Next, they are selling comics that I'm pretty sure are copyright infringement. And might I add it's the most expensive issues aside from annuals and exclusives. A woman who was visiting from Texas simply asked them if she was required to wear a mask and they cussed her out. Comics are charged full price and many I have bought have ripped pages or have unseen damage until you look through them as if nobody checks them, at least 901 comics put 50cent on comics they can't validate. And then the cherry on the cake, now whither not you agree or disagree is beyond the point. But they had made a post about having to wear masks to enter the shop, which was something they were doing before because they would not let me in without one. When I stated that upon my visit I felt silly and down right uncomfortable having to do this just to look for comics. Honesty that is just how i felt. So I had mentioned that I would return when this was no longer an issue. Other customers on the page started getting onto me about how I was selfish and blah blah blah. So then the owner tells me I don't have to come back at all and that I should "bounce" ????? Because they " Just didn't have time for this" I then said that it was rather rude and unexpected for them to treat a customer like that who just relayed his or her experience, I have skills in customer service and a simple "we look forward to seeing you come back" would have been the way I took and be honest that would have been the best way to handle it. However, I was then blocked from their page and presumably banned from their shop. Will recommend 901 comics in a heart beat, better service, better people, better employees, and when they do talk loud enough for you to hear them it's at least about something relevant and something you can chime in on without being verbally told off. This will conclude my review, I really hope that if you go there you don't have an experience like this. I had been going for 2 years and now I will never go there again. It takes forever to earn a customer and a second to lose one and they lost me and my friends for sure. read more

Very friendly staff and a huge selection of comics and graphic novels. They have a lot of POP figures and a few other toys as well. One very interesting thing is they have some TCG merchandise, including some older sealed MTG booster packs. The only thing they are lacking in is manga, which I know they dont advertise as having Japanese comics, but it would be nice to have a selection of that as well. read more

'Comic book store'. When those words are said, usually an instantaneous picture pops into your head. Lazy store owners, books unorganized, 30 year old men who never grew out of there teenage years...I think you get it. This store though, is the complete opposite. The first thing that really hits me whenever I walk in the store is diversity. You see this especially in big comic book days or events that take place here. But the difference in age and culture between the people that come in this store blow me away. You have the stereotypical 30 year old guys, yes, but you also have the normal 20 year old with his date, the father and mother with there kid browsing through some family friendly comics, and people that might even surprise you. Because they have the same interests as you. Last time I struck up a conversation with a guy who was close to my age and even though I'm not an expert on comics we enjoyed a conversation. The environment is hit or miss in stores like this, and this store hit the bullseye! The organization is simple enough. Everything is arranged alphabetically, which makes it easy for those who are new to comics and don't know which superhero belongs to which 'universe' or 'category'. The staff isn't over the top friendly but they show no signs of being rude or weird. They happily showed me where I could find certain series of my favorite superhero. There stock is really nice and I think the prize of there comics in store is the comic book collections (which are a series of comics put into a book). Overall, best atmosphere than any other comic store I've been too in Memphis, easy to find comics you love and pretty clean. read more

I'm not a comic book gal, but if you are a comic fan this is the place for you. They have an insane amount of comics- old and new. I stopped in here on a whim as I took note online that they carry t-shirts and toys as well, so I figured it was worth a trip. Upon stepping foot inside this place, I immediately felt like I was in Steve Carrell's apartment in 40 Year Old Virgin. Talk about comic books and figurines! There are shelves upon shelves of treasures that I can only assume would allow the most snobbish of all comic book fans to get their geek on. This place is rather large- much larger than it appears, and from my novice comic abilities it seemed as though they catered more to the older issues of comic books than new. Regardless, the guys that work here are total comic book geek heads and will talk you up regardless of the fact that you may not be. If you are looking for something in particular, they will most definitely be able to help. read more

You have your comics, your collectibles, your graphic novels, your card games, your board games, etc. You will always find something that interests you in here. Most things are reasonably priced in terms of what you'd find them listed as anywhere else, but some can be a little pricey. Usually though, they're deserving of that price due to the rarity of them. It's hard for me to give this place two stars. Maybe 2.5 would be a better choice for me. Why is it hard you ask? Well for god's sake man! They still sell comic books! I just really don't like the layout of the store. It seems that they put a premium on back issues and finding newer issues tends to get difficult. Also the guys that run the place are uber nerds. This is the best comic store in Memphis. They have been the cornerstone of geekdom for as long as I have been in Memphis. They have remained the same size since as far back as I can recall. The store is stocked with all the newest comics and has more back issues than you may care to look through. They also sell graphic novels, toys, and statues. Every time I have been to the store the clerks have been somewhat unfriendly, but they do have the best selection in town so they don't need to have excellent service. If you want comics, this is the best place to go. read more

They sell new and oldschool MTG cards. Not a huge selection though. They also sell some board games like risk and what not. Lots of differnt dice. Players manuals to different games like D&D. They sell figurines also and things of the sort incase you need a new atmosphere for a table top game like DD. The prices are not bad either but on the other hand about what you would expect. read more

Nice store and tons to look through but the people in the store are about as RUDE as you can imagine. I have been in on multiple times and have not even been welcomed or even asked what I am looking for or can I be helped. The guys literally didn't even look at me or say a single word. I was looking for some fairly expensive comics and they acted like no one was in the store. Other people they know well came in and they were non stop talking. I even walked by the register to go out then door and didn't even get a Thanks, Bye, etc. If you can get by being ignored and having zero cusomer service, then they do have a lot of nice stuff. read more

I could not be more pleased with my experience at this little shop in Memphis. I was on a business trip and had the desire to pick up a new Graphic Novel I had just read selections from. So I set out to find a comic shop in Memphis. There aren't a lot of options but forget the others. This place has an excellent selection of comics, popular tabletop games, and collectibles; plus, it is easy to navigate. Above all else, though, the gentleman running the shop was a gem. He let you browse at your leisure and never made me uncomfortable. When approached, he was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and personable. I rarely write reviews but I felt like Comics & Collectibles deserved one from me since I've been going there since I was 4. They have the best and most affordable comic collection that I have seen from any comic book store. They have so many great older comics as well as new comics that come in constantly! They have an awesome collection of miniatures for your board games (Dungeons and Dragons and Star Wars) and plenty of card and comic keepers to keep your stuff pristine. They have a great case of figures that range from anime characters to comic book characters! It may be in a difficult to find area, but dang! If you ever go there, you'll find yourself going there constantly. The people that work there are super helpful as well ;) read more

Whenever I visit my friends in Memphis, we make sure to stop by here at least once while I'm in town. While the selection of comics and graphic novels is impressive, I always tend towards the tabletop RPGs. In particular, this is the only store that I have found that reliably has books from Exalted, the system that I have been playing for the past couple of years. I highly recommend this place, if only for the likelihood that they have what you're looking for. read more

I've worked and volunteered in two different comic shops in Florida and Toronto. This place is freaking awesome so far as I can tell by first look on a Monday afternoon. The staff says a friendly hello and let's you peruse, but answers any questions necessary and throws in good jokes I think when they can tell it's the right audience. My husband and I asked them about having a folder or pull list there and they only require 10 titles to do so! Additionally, it's the most well organized shop I've run across and the cleanest by far. I know how hard it is to keep a shop clean and these guys definitely care about their product you can tell. They have big sale bins, 10$ priced shirts, a giant graphic novel selection (they even have a few art books!) and their toy and statue collection is average/close to pretty large. For those that buy single issues, look to the front of the shop for your bags and boards. You can buy current or golden age sized per bag and board or you can buy a pack of any others like regular size etc. on top of that, they print out a new release list which was great for me since I couldn't use my cell phone to look up what I needed/ came out last week. The single issues has their back issues in the same area which I find extremely helpful and let's you know what titles are currently running. Can't wait to come back Wednesday. read more
