We used Greg 8 years ago on a house we were going to buy but ended up not because of his thorough inspection. We used Greg again this past weekend on a house we are going to put an offer in for. Greg is wonderful to work with. He will work up a sweat as he diligently inspects the property and then he will give you a detailed report of everything, minor to major. What's better is that Greg will explain everything to you as you go through the inspection. He'll tell you what he's looking for, whether something is a major issue, and how to fix it. Best of all is that he does all this in a way that doesn't feel like he's talking down to you. Basically, he is teaching you about how to look at a home. If you're looking to buy property anytime soon, hire Greg to do your inspection. He is worth every penny! read more

Greg was referred to me, and I must say, it was a stellar referral. Greg is easy going, accommodating, EXTREMELY thorough, and provides a personal touch that is lacking these days. He spends time with you, provides pictures and a report as well as talks to you about the findings and options/solutions you may encounter. I highly recommend using Greg for his services, expertise, and clearly caring / honest practices. read more

Greg Bourscheid did my home inspection on 4/30/10 for an 100 year old wooden house in Arlington. I feel compelled to write him up because I felt his service was exceptional. While his rates are a bit higher than the average, I believe it was worth it because: 1. He was personable and not at all condescending as I followed him around and peppered him with questions. 2. He answered those questions in a way that made sense to me and increased my understanding of the house. 3. He was very thorough and detailed in uncovering issues. 4. His documentation was amazing- I basically have a 90 page book that breaks down everything that needs repair and includes pictures so it is easily referenced and makes a great checklist for a homeowner. 5. Finally, Greg was accessible after the fact for questions and to discuss priorities. I was warned not to go with the inspector recommended by my realtor but I'm glad I did. I believe that Greg was my advocate in the process. He did not underscore the severity of issues or tell me "not to worry about it" He gave a thorough picture of what I am facing in buying a older home and I unreservedly recommend him. Wishing you happy home buying! read more

Greg is the real deal. we hired him to inspect our new town home in Alexandria, and he was very accomodating to our schedule. Some say he is slightly on the pricier side, but he is well worth the money. He inspected the home with us, gave us lots of teaching about home maintainence. He was honest in his inspections, and felt he was our advocate all the way. he gave a detailed report with pictures, and we even had follow up calls with him, and he clarified everything, and gave some very sound advice, which he didn't have to. he was enthusiastic in his work, and knew what he was talking about, and what to look for in a house. Even when there was a box he couldn't find, he searched the our home multiple times, goinig up and down the stairs until we found it. if you are looking for an honest, nice, expert to inspect you home, he's your guy. read more

My husband and I hired Greg to do an inspection prior to submitting our 1-year warranty checklist for our new-construction townhome. There was no inspection done prior to settling. Greg was extremely thorough in both the home inspection and his explanations to us, the homeowners. He not only pointed out things that were wrong, he educated us about general maintenance that should be done regularly in order to ensure maximum lifespan of appliances, etc. Some of it was known already, but most of it was news to us. Luckily, Greg did not find anything too bad, but very happy we had the inspection done "just in case". If you are looking for a home inspector in the Northern Virginia area, call Greg. You'll be glad you did! His fees are nominal to what you could end up paying if something is majorly wrong in your home. A note about Greg himself: Greg is very personable, funny and patient. It is also worth noting that I contacted 2 other inspectors in the area prior to calling Greg, and none of my phone calls or emails were returned. Greg answered his phone on the first call and showed up exactly on time for our scheduled inspection. Very important in our busy lives! read more

I have to heartily agree with the first reviewer, 5 big stars. Greg Bourscheid inspected 2 houses for me, and I can't imagine being any happier with a home inspector, exceptional service. In fact, I had to have 2 additional independent inspections due to my lender's requirements, and Greg's inspection and report were far and away more detailed, thorough and comprehensive than the others. The information I learned about my home from walking through the house with Greg sharing his expertise has been invaluable. The first house I had inspected Greg determined there was an underground oil tank in the back yard, despite the seller's agent insisting otherwise, and in fact the county found one there. I found Greg very professional, easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and I agree, a real advocate for the buyer. This was particularly valuable to me, as it enabled me to make informed decisions with all of the straight up, unbiased information I needed as a first time buyer. Greg was very knowledgeable on all systems and construction of my house, accurately identifying issues with my roof, furnace, and water leakage. Did I expect him to be an expert roofer, HVAC guy or plumber? No, he's there to identify issues, and went well beyond that by telling me how to fix small things myself, and what type of contractor to get for bigger items. I was referred to an expert when larger issues were identified that warranted it. I asked about a re-inspection of the electrical system after some repairs, expecting to be charged for Greg's time as with all professional services, and found his rate very reasonable. When we discussed the electrical work/re-inspection, Greg also told me to make sure to check x, y and z - more than I expected, completely helpful to a newbie like me, and one example of great customer care. NovaSpect's prices are in the normal range for this area, and I feel it was a great value for the money, as I said, far more comprehensive than the other two. You do get what you pay for. I highly recommend Greg Bourscheid and NovaSpect Home Inspections, would recommend him to sellers to get a detailed picture of what they're looking at before selling, and have referred him to friends who've also been very pleased. read more

We found Greg through Yelp and opted to go for him from all these reviews. These reviews are truly accurate and he's really a great home inspector. My husband and I don't know much about homes since we're first time homebuyers. Greg walked us through all of the house and pointed out any of the flaws he saw and he also explained why it would be an issue or what it would ultimately impact. The best part was that he even walked us through home maintenance routines that we would need in order to keep our house running for years. I would recommend Greg to any home buyers who are looking to get their home inspected! read more

Greg inspected a home we were about to buy in September. Luckily for us, we found some things that we just didn't want to deal with so we walked on the house. Greg is quite thorough and I'd call him an expert at doing home inspections. He is very methodical, which I think means he won't miss anything. During the whole process Greg made sure that we saw what he was seeing and explained to us what he was looking for. He answered all our questions and took the time to explain things to us. He's not condescending and you never feel like you are being talked down to. Greg is very down-to-earth. His job isn't to tell you to buy or not buy a house, but rather point out all the issues and let you decide. At the end of the inspection, my fiance and I decided that we didn't want to live in that house, and for good reason. Mold, some problems with the electrical system, etc; all things we would not have known to look for, and a lesser inspector may have overlooked. We received a detailed copy of Greg's report with pictures, explanations, and solutions. I feel like I know so much more about houses now and when we go to look at houses now, my fiance and I have a much more critical eye; looking for tells that there is a problem with a house. While the rates at Novaspect may be higher than competitors, I feel the money is well-worth it. We plan on using Greg for our next inspection! read more

I'm in the process of buying my first home and not having a family network around DC I turned to Yelp and again I was glad i did. I called about a half dozen different home inspector companies or contractors. Greg Boursheid took the time to make me feel comfortable on the phone and explained the entire process to me. I booked him right then and there. He was punctual and professional at all times. He spoke to me in "plain english" and didn't even so much as snicker at what I'm sure were some fairly dumb questions that I asked. He took the time to explain things to me and frequently asked if I had any questions. He talked with me instead of at me and I really appreciated it. I'm quickly learning that buying your first home is a stressful process but Greg did everything he could to make his part as simple as possible for me. I can't recommend him enough!!!! I even signed-up just to give him a rating! read more

Greg was wonderful. As a first time homebuyer- the home inspection is always nerveraking. Greg was a great teacher in showing what needed to be fixed and how to maintain the appliances and furnace. You always felt he was in your corner and not in the sellers. He also talks directly to you- he says their are no stupid questions. Greg was the only person out of the three inspectors I called for estimates that answered the phone. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about him. He is worth the money and I highly recommend him for buyers or sellers! read more

As a real estate broker I've worked with Greg for almost 2 years now. A client actually recommended Greg to me and I've haven't worked with another home inspector as good as him. He really knows his stuff. Greg is excellent with clients and helping homeowners by explaining to them what the home inspection process is about. He also walks with the home buyers through each item that he finds. He also does radon testing. He is not the cheapest or the most expensive home inspector I've worked with, but his time and his knowledge are worth every penny. Greg has been a joy to work with and I highly recommend him. Thank you Greg for all that you do. My team and my clients thank you! read more

This is my first-ever Yelp review and I am writing it because I am absolutely dumbfounded by the positive reviews for Greg Bourscheid with Novaspect Home Inspections. Greg was contracted to inspect our home. However, the inspection report included MANY issues that were fabricated and/or completely incorrect. Based on misinformation from his inspection, we were forced to complete additional mold, electrical, and plumbing inspections that were proven not only to be extremely stressful and costly to us but COMPLETELY unnecessary. In fact, the contractor that was brought in to evaluate his plumbing concern even suggested that the invoice should be paid by the home inspector because if he had taken the time to actually read the information on the pipe he would have realized that the pipe was appropriate for plumbing, not electrical conduit as he suggested. He also stated that our attic space was covered in black mold, causing us a great deal of worry and money. Not a trace of mold was found in our attic - he simply didn't realize that old nails often cause staining in plywood and didn't bother to look into it any further. A home inspection should not be a way to scare the sellers into submission and cause undo stress and financial worry. A home inspection should determine whether the home is solid, safe, and well constructed. Greg's report was factually incorrect in many aspects, and both buyer and seller should beware. read more

Greg was simply amazing. He took his time to go above and beyond to inspect everything. He broke everything down into simple-to-understand terminology. Without him, even though this was a new home purchase, the builder would not have been alerted to SEVERAL issues, including a dented air vent, damaged ceiling in the utility, paint/drywall imperfections, floor planks, and MOLD in the attic, roof fixes, asphalt, and exterior paint - the list goes on. Whether you need a new home inspection, or buying an existing home, look no further. Greg worked tirelessly on a tight timeline, and sent the inspection reports to me at 3:33 am. A+++ read more
