Not the Experience You'd Expect From a "Judgment-Free Zone"…read more I spent a lot of time at this Planet Fitness location in Manassas, and it's honestly not what you'd expect from a place that promotes being welcoming and judgment-free. There's constant turnover in management -- and the most recent changes have only made things worse. The current manager creates a really tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. He's passive-aggressive and not easy to communicate with, which seems to affect both staff morale and the energy in the building overall. There are also ongoing issues that members constantly complain about -- from broken equipment to cleanliness concerns -- and nothing ever seems to get fixed. It's frustrating to see the same problems brought up again and again with no real action. Things are often just brushed under the rug until the next manager rolls in... and the cycle repeats. If you're looking for a gym where the environment feels positive, consistent, and well-managed, I would recommend checking out other locations or different fitness centers altogether.

I'm usually in and out without having to wait for equipment, and even when I do, the wait is short. The overall atmosphere is friendly-- as everyone relatively shares the same goals, and are consistently respectful. I frequent a couple other PFs throughout the year, but I'm happy to say this one, I can call home.

So according to their rules, you have to 'maybe' want to get a membership after the "FREE" trial.. which means you have to be a resident. So after my friend drove us 30 minutes to get here, I am told by the staff member since I'm visiting from Los Angeles, I can't come in, but my friend can...? I very politely pleaded as he refused to let me in. No big deal, so I ask for the manager. This gentlemen walks up to her and says he needs assistance with a winky face to the manager! The manager looks over as if I'm bothering her, so I continue to politely ask if I can workout since I leave in 2 days and signed up for this scam. Nope, $15. Now, I can pay the $15 no problem.. but the point is, It reaks of those fishy free trial scams and I refuse to support a business of this nature. I never write reviews like this, and I have never experienced such rude and disrespectful behavior from a "manager". I am making sure to make this aware online, as well as with the FTC, but wanted to make the people here at yelp aware as well.

We drop-in to CrossFit Manassas when we visit my parents in Haymarket, VA, and it is the best box I…read morehave ever visited. Not only do the staff and members welcome you with open arms (which is somewhat expected in CrossFit), but the coaches go the extra step to understand your strengths and weaknesses before the workout to ensure they can do everything in their ability to make you better and get as much value from the workout as possible. The staff's overall love and understanding of CrossFit shines through in the programming and the progressions/scales they provide to their members to ensure the highest quality CrossFit experience possible. In talking to the owner, the rigorous process and the required continuing education the coaching staff is required to maintain is unprecedented which also leads to a better CrossFit experience for both members and visitors. In our last visit, the box lived up to their unofficial name of "PR City" as I PR'ed my bench press - yes they programmed a regular bench press (not floor press) because they have enough racks and benches for the ENTIRE CLASS. Which leads me to another amazing aspect of the box - the equipment. Not only do they have a massive rig in the middle that can accommodate a ton of people, but they also have a dedicated area that has permanent gymnastic mats along the wall giving you a great place to work on handstand progressions or wall walks. Not to mention the massive amount of oly plates and rowers, but rarities at most boxes, but they have an OUTSIDE rig and dedicated stone pit. The use of technology to further the member experience is impressive as well. The staff encourages each member to report and track progress on beyondthewhiteboard, so that measurable results can be achieved. My wife, who is a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer at our home gym, said after our last visit, if we moved out of PA, we should consider the Manassas area just so she can coach and train at this facility. If you are visiting or considering trying CrossFit you cannot go wrong with starting at CrossFit Manassas.

We were immediately greeted by the two giant Mastiffs they have (which I can only assume also do CrossFit), and Jennifer got us checked in and introduced us to Coach Doug. They gave us a quick rundown of the workout for the day, and where all of the equipment was if we needed it. We met a few of the other people in the session, and it was great to see people of all skill levels knocking out the workout. It seemed like Doug and Jennifer gave us a little extra special attention because we were beginners, but they focused on safety and the right technique first, before they moved into building strength. I can safely say this is the first time I have done CrossFit and not injured myself. The facility had a lot of equipment in great condition, and they had a huge screen on the side of the wall that showed heart rate levels of some of the people in our session - it was very cool, and I enjoyed geeking out during the workout. The workout was good - not too intense, but my body is a little sore the next morning. Coach Doug even hung out with us for a few minutes after to encourage us to keep doing CrossFit if we feel it's right for us, and find something that works for us in our own towns. Overall, a great experience, very knowledgeable and fun group of people, and I would definitely recommend to anyone in the Manassas area - if nothing else, just drop in and try them out. We had a blast. Thanks, Doug and Jennifer! My shoulders thank you too.

I was part of this gym for over 10 years until they raised the price of my membership $20 without…read moreany real effort to contact me. To preface, I don't have an issue with the fact that they raised the price, but with the way it was handled. I originally signed a 2 year contract many years ago for $30/ month, which after the two year period ended became month to month. Well, late this past Spring I noticed that they had charged me $50 instead of $30. I called them thinking that it was some sort of mistake, and they told me no, they raised the prices and that they had "either sent out an email *or* a notice in the mail (couldn't tell me which one), and "with so many members they couldn't call every single one to notify them". I told them I hadn't received notification, and the guy kind of laughed and said "yeah I throw away my mail away sometimes too" or something to that effect. Then they told me if I wanted to continue, I would have to either pay the $50 monthly, OR sign another two year contract to continue at my original $30. ???? What? Then what was the point of all this? Afterwards to give them the benefit of the doubt I searched my email. What pissed me off is that I had SEVERAL emails from the personal trainer working there asking if I wanted to schedule a session with her, and several voicemails from her as well. Nothing about a price change. So overall it gave the impression that they could "take the time" to call if it was to promote a paid service they offer, but not to let me know they raised my price by 66%. I also searched my mail and didn't find anything. It's possible they sent something and it just got lost, I don't know. I was polite throughout the ordeal and I gave them a lot of chances to make it right and no one did at any point. So I had to suck it up and pay the $50 and was also forced to pay another $50 for the next month since they have a one month notice resignation policy. Personally I think this is a shady way to run a business. It's 2026, the least they could have done is send out a couple of emails. But I do know that if the personal trainer could take the time to call me (no shade to her obviously), management could have done so too. They just didn't care enough to. For what it's worth I otherwise never had a problem at this gym and was happy with it for what it was, despite the lack of amenities. I switched to OneLife fitness in Manassas for $45/ month which has real facilities (sauna, pool), more types of and newer machines, and unlimited group classes. For the price I feel that OneLife offers a lot of value and I'm very happy with it. Of course there are people who need the "anytime" part of anytime fitness which at this point is the only reason I would recommend this Anytime Fitness location to someone.

Although it may…read morebe okay during staffed hours, overnight and in the morning, it is a halfway house for the local homeless population. For several months, the two shower rooms have been occupied each morning for an hour or more by men who do not work out, they either sleep in their cars or wander the neighborhood, and they only use the gym for the shower facilities. If you work out and need to get ready for work, you are always at risk that the showers won't be available because someone will be sleeping in there. (They go in, the lights go off -- you can tell because it's dark under the crack of the door -- and there's no sound from within for an hour or more.) Even more recently, men have now been sleeping in the lobby. Management's response -- as always -- was to hang yet another sign telling people not to do things that are obvious. This morning, there was another person sleeping under the "Do Not Sleep in the Lobby" sign, and both shower rooms were occupied by sleepers. Imagine a young woman coming in to work out who is alone in the gym with three apparently unstable guys. It seems management is waiting for the first assault before actually doing anything. (And a side note -- the bathrooms are always filthy. I have a photo of the giant mildewy hairball that has been in the corner for over a year.) Avoid this gym if you want someplace clean and safe.
