Rude people that work here, throw up all over the parking lots, not to mention their "free" trial SCAM. So according to their rules, you have to 'maybe' want to get a membership after the "FREE" trial.. which means you have to be a resident. So after my friend drove us 30 minutes to get here, I am told by the staff member since I'm visiting from Los Angeles, I can't come in, but my friend can...? I very politely pleaded as he refused to let me in. No big deal, so I ask for the manager. This gentlemen walks up to her and says he needs assistance with a winky face to the manager! The manager looks over as if I'm bothering her, so I continue to politely ask if I can workout since I leave in 2 days and signed up for this scam. Nope, $15. Now, I can pay the $15 no problem.. but the point is, It reaks of those fishy free trial scams and I refuse to support a business of this nature. I never write reviews like this, and I have never experienced such rude and disrespectful behavior from a "manager". I am making sure to make this aware online, as well as with the FTC, but wanted to make the people here at yelp aware as well. read more

I must put in a review for the NEW gym! It is the gym that I dream about going to. The equipment, classes, staff, and atmosphere ROCKS! I am so glad I took the leap and joined before it opened in its new location. I'm not sure why so many people rate on only the staff, like this place is a spa or something. It's a GYM. You are there to work out. How hard is that to understand? You take classes, you work out. Why ratings are banked on one thing, is not fair. This is a nice place and I've found that the equipment is torn up by the crappy members that don't clean up after working out their nasty selves on them and break them. It's spacious ,clean,and the members very considerate .I find all the equipment is good condition and working order.There is no swimming pool or racquetball court , which might be minuse for some people ,but there is cinema room ,where you can watch new movies while doing elliptical ,tanning bed ( extra 9.99$/month) and reasonably priced childcare (3$ for two hours or option of having it as a part of membership for 21$ a month ) .As far as Gold's go,this is really great location . read more

I asked if they stop the payments due to her current situation...They refused to work with me. I provided housing and other information and Golds Gym refused. I paid thIs membership for a year. I'm back home in NOVA visiting my parents in Manassas and I called up gold's gym so I could workout while visiting. It was easy. 7 days for $25 for out-of-towners. Staff was polite and the gym was clean. I would have liked a tour of the gym or just a quick overview of classes etc but I received nothing. The place was not busy during peak hours. Had to get a membership at Planet Fitness cuz gold gym isn't trying to open back to 24hrs.

NOTE: I am not a member of this gym. This review is solely based on my experience as a prospective member and the sales pitch/tour I was given. At first glance, the gym appears ok. It's in a convenient part of town and open almost 24 hours a day (except weekends). I never saw the locker rooms, but was told they were clean multiple times (excessively so)... this leads me to believe there have been cleanliness issues before. The layout of the gym is a bit weird, as the gym occupies two floors (1st and 3rd) of the building. The cardio machines appear worn and dated. Cardio equipment area shares tv sets (placed on far wall). The third floor almost seems like its set up for their rejected equipment.. as they have a few really decrepit cardio machines, and the rest of the floor (once a indoor running track) has strength training equipment all over the place. The group training area seemed a little too crowded / small. As far as pricing is concerned, I have to admit I was really shocked. Regardless of whether you choose to sign a contract (available in 1 or 2 year terms) or not, everyone pays a $75 initiation fee. In addition, you are charged a $40 fee once a year for clean up/maintenance. Your monthly fees depends on what you sign up for: 1 year = $30/month, 2 year = $20/month, no contract = $40/month. With LA Fitness opening up in just a few months, and less than a mile away, I would think Gold's would be trying to retain existing members and attract new ones. It doesn't appear to be the case. Based on what I saw and was told, I am just going to wait for LA. read more

I walked in and waited for what seemed like forever for the front desk person to finish her conversation with whoever she was talking to behind the desk. After they stopped talking, they still did not acknowledge me, and I asked them if I could speak with someone about a membership. The guy stood up and said "yes". Frustrated I said "Yes what? Like is someone going to show me around? Are we just going to stand here all day?" He seemed shocked that I wanted a tour and finally showed me around. He was not showing me things or explaining selling points, I actually had to ask about everything. In the end he was quite rude. He obviously didn't want to show me around you could see it all over his face and he never smiled. I thought the gym was neat, but I'll never join after that. read more

I was at a medical clinic right next door getting antibiotic injections into my infected hemorrhoids when I saw a tough guy getting out of his 4x4 SUV. He was carrying a gym bag, and he was swagging into Golds Gym. That fit the impression that I had of Golds Gym, cool guys pumping iron and grunting. So I never joined. Golds Gym is the closest place to home so I figured that maybe Precious would go more often. Also it's open 25 hours which is convenient for me. So we joined. They have all kinds of fitness methods. Free weights, exercise machines (everything even rowing machines, a rock climbing simulation machine, stair machines, treadmills of course, stationary bikes and those eliptical things. They have the circuit training, heavy boxing bags and gloves, an indoor track (23 laps to a mile) and classes (Zumba to kick boxing to yoga). They have another room that shows movies, and an area for women only. They also have locker rooms with showers. I'm not into taking showers in a public place. If you do, then I recommend you wear flip flops because athletes foot can spread that way. The also have a children's area so parents can come and work out while someone watches their children But a couple of things. It's very expensive. If you need all the amenities, the classes, the child care, etc., then it's worth it, but if all you need are some cardio machines and basic strength exercises, then it might not be worth the cost. There are other places less expensive in the area. Also, it gets pretty messy. Some people are pigs. They have a cleaning person come in there in the morning, but before she comes there are discarded water bottles and paper towels all over the place. But most importantly, even though they say it's open 24 hours, that only applies to three days a week. On weekends I like to get up early and work out and then make it home in time to have breakfast with Precious. I can't do that here so that's why I'm quitting. read more

The new facility is nice, but the utter lack of common sense and courtesy from the front desk staff and management is completely unacceptable. I signed up for a 7 day pass and upon speaking the "Sales" guy, I had to pull every bit of information out of him. If I didn't ask it he didn't share. Several other members told me they had the same experience. Their "Sales" staff needs some serious training. Then when I signed up, turns out the information he provided was wrong anyway. The only reason people go there has to be that there is no other alternative close by. If I decide to stay, that will definitely be why... I hope other Gold's Gyms are better. This is the only experience I have ever had with them. UPDATE: I left my original post b/c I believe the initial experience for most will be the same as mine. However, if you can get past that, it gets better. After being a member now for 8-months, I wanted to say I like this place better b/c the folks I interact with the most are the fitness staff who are GREAT! The fitness director, Gini, is super nice and knows her stuff, as does the rest of the fitness staff. I really enjoy the classes, especially Body Combat and Body Flow. I also bring my son to the kids center and he looks forward to going every time. He likes the staff and the activities they have there for the kids. All-in-all, i would recommend this gym at this point. read more

The worst gym I have ever been a member of. When I first moved here from Texas, I joined Gold's because of the price....get what you pay for. The staff is rude, the gym is dirty, half the time the equipment is busted, etc. etc. etc.... No one re-racks their weights and gym bags are just laying all over the floors ready for people to trip over them. I ended up signing up for another gym before my contract is even up....Yes, I am willing to double up on gym costs for 3 months because of how crappy this place is. I went to look over the cancellation policy and I need to have a signed letter hand delivered to them. What bullcrap, I am having my letter ready this weekend and delivering it to be in effect as soon as the contract is up. read more

You can't ask for anything more from a gym. People that are complaining on here are princesses. You go there to pick things up and put things down. People sweat and grunt. Besides that, they have other things to appeal to many other likes. The cardio section, the , albeit small, Crossfit section, the plethora of machines on the upper level, the cardio theater, pole dancing class, 'bicycle room' (I don't know what you call that, lol)! And of course all the things you'd expect like showers, sauna, day care, smoothie bar. If I had one pet peeve to complain about, they keep the A/C too cold for my taste. Facility itself isn't bad but the staff with the exception of a couple doesn't give a shit about its members or being polite, once they have your sale they're pretty much gonna treat you like an annoyance. They make it pretty clear all they really wanna do is leave and go home and they really don't take any pride in there jobs. I've been a member for about a year and a half now-- I usually go 3-6 days a week. This gym offers a plethora of things to its members (I recommend checking their website for full amenities). Overall, it's a good gym. I've been there at all hours of the day and it rarely gets unpleasantly crowded. There's only two problems I come across consistently. 1. Most people don't wipe down after their workout. It's disgusting. Management has set up several stations where you can get paper towels/spray yet most people don't have the decency, are too "lazy", or try to minimize their rest time between sets to clean up after themselves. Still not a reason why you should leave your sweat/stench everywhere... 2. Some people don't know how to re-rack weights. Both problems are because of gym members, of course. So if you're reading this and workout there or plan on becoming a member, please don't be that guy... read more

I love it here! I only work out in the mornings, and there are no crowds, and the place is clean on weekdays. Unfortunately, had to take a star away because on weekends, it does tend to get dirty, and low on paper towels and cleaning fluid. The gym has pretty good child care. My daughter enjoys going, though I wish the staff interacted more with kids. At other gyms I frequented, they made more of an effort to engage kids in games. Here, the staff will primarily baby-sit, without organizing any activities. They are very good with monitoring the children, and the room is bright, with a lot of toys, and a giant climbing structure with 2 slides! The classes are great! Step with Cheryl is the best!!! Amazing, high energy workout, that leaves me looking like I just swam in the pool. Body Pump is also fantastic. I love the movie room: a dark room, with a large screen where they show various movies, (some current, others ancient. Not sure what the criteria is, or if they let each staff member pick their own month). That room has a variety of cross trainers, treadmills, bikes, and one arc trainer. Unfortunately, several treadmills are usually broken, or in a state of decline. One time, I was running at an 8, when the treadmill suddenly stopped! I don't know how I hung on. the old saying holds true for this place: "You can't spit-shine a turd" This place looks nice from the outside and it is "new" but they rushed the construction and much of it is sub-standard. The Staff are arrogant morons and a lot of the equipment is broken. The locker rooms are cheaply made and the showers can barely drain correctly so DON'T shower there. Plus its 2011 and they dont give out small towels. That's truly a sign of cutting corners in a bad way. I would NOT recommend this place; if you can really go somewhere else, do. read more

Tried to call into inquire about a membership, the lady that answered the phone was extraordinarily rude. The lady that was talking to me about membership information could not give me a solid membership cost without having me come in, I then inquired on whether or not there is a scaled membership and she said that the memberships range within $15 of each other. If you are expecting to use this gym for the classes... this is not the place for you. While they do offer a great assortment of classes, and their instructors are awesome, there simply is not enough space in the classes to accommodate the number of patrons that attend the gym. The patrons have had to result in getting to the classes 20 minutes early to wait in line to get in to the class, and then rush in to hurry and get a spot. After many safety issues pertaining to overcrowding, rather than limit the number of memberships the gym sells or creating more classes, they are simply closing the classes once they reach capacity. I've made many complaints about the size of the classes, and number of classes offered and have been told that classes are available on a first come first serve basis. In other words, you should arrive 20 minutes early and wait in line. When asked directly I was told the gym is not going to stop taking new memberships despite not being able to accomodate the members they are ready have, and the space they have available will be used to create other FOR PROFIT services. Simply put, they care more about their profits then their members. read more

I'm not to impressed with this gym and frankly I'm a little dissapointed. The cardio machines are limited and it seems like everytime we go one, two, or even three are broken. I told the staff member a week ago that a treadmill inside the so called "movie cardio" room accelerated and slowed down while running for no reason. She told me "ok, i'll make a note of it" then she went back to painting her finger nails! nice! very professional. I pay over $120.00 a month, I would like at least courtesy and working treadmills. We came to this gym after being members of Life Fitness to save a few bucks and frankly we regret it. If you can seek elsewhere, I will not be renewing my membership for sure. read more

I just wish people would realize that they are not entitled and that their mom doesn't work here. Unrack your weights and wipe down when you are done. First off, the new gym location is very nice. It has a lot of potential. They need to add more classes and variety. How about some yoga classes in the evening? I hope it keeps the clean look it has as a new gym. I do wish they had earlier and longer hours on the weekend. They did adjust them slightly, but could do better. My major complaint is with their billing. I joined at the Chantilly Golds and have since moved to Manassas and go to this gym. My credit card renewed so I had to update the info. I found out after a missed payment that I can only update my payment at the "home" gym, not one that is part of the same franchise. I find this totally unsatisfactory. Without the billing issues, this would be a 4 star rating. Just add more classes and longer hours and fix billing issues. read more

Gold's Gym Manassas is awesome!! Excellent free weights area; plenty of cardio equipment(cardio cinema is a plus); unique pieces like the wall/rock climb, trx, Jacobs ladder, etc; third floor is an excellent area for circuit training as it has lots of heavy weight machines and a great track; I love being able to decompress in the sauna, then shower and get to work effortlessly. Cardio classes are no joke(insanity class is the real deal). I recommend this Gym to all of my patients. The extra services through out the gym are great. Honestly Golds Gym is like my second home. It's changed my life. The staff here is great with helping people from when they walk in to the gym for the first time to get their membership, to when they achieve their fitness goals. One staff member that really stands out to me is Karen Lopez. When I first got my membership she took the time to explain to me every last detail of the gym. From the hours of operation to the different programs and events that the gym offers. She's very thorough when it came to how my membership worked and she gave me an excellent tour of the facility. I recommend this gym and Karen Lopez to whoever wants to sign up at this gym. She makes the best protein shakes as well. She's a great person all around with the biggest smile! read more

Front desk staff will greet you when coming in, and seem to be dedicated to the job of fitness. Only real complaint would be what is on the tv's in front of the cardio area in the morning, could use a little more of a variety, four news channels and espn and espn2 get old quickly. Been coming here regularly for about 8 months now, and I have to say that I am very pleased. This placed is packed with all the equipment you need to get a good workout. The Atmosphere here is always friendly, both staff and members. I usually go late evenings after work (~7pm) and it tends to get a little crowded, but that's typical in any gym. Have yet to run into the problem of equipment not being available for long periods of time. Overall a great gym. read more
