BLUF: The CrossFit Woodbridge (CFW) Basic Olympic Weightlifting class will significantly improve…read moreyour strength, endurance, flexibility and confidence when performing the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, as well as performance in all CrossFit movements. The value far outweighs the cost! I just completed the CFW Basic Olympic Weightlifting Class run by owner, Dan Broughton. Although I've been doing CrossFit at CFW for 18 months, my technique and strength in Olympic weightlifting movements lacked, as I never received any training in these movements prior to January 2014. Although, Dan and his excellent staff of trainers educate and train CFW athletes on these movements during daily workouts, there is not sufficient time to really evaluate, critique, and correct form and technique to the level required. CFW's Basic Olympic Weightlifting Class addressed the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk + a number of accessory movements designed to increased strength, flexibility, endurance, and technique. I significantly increased my performance in all of these areas. My Snatch PR 1RM improved from 45 to 105 and my Clean and Jerk PR 1RM improved from 124 to 145. If I had not spent so much energy working up to my PR on the Snatch, I honestly believe my Clean and Jerk PR would have been closer to 165 or higher. Regardless, Dan's focused and experienced coaching significantly improved my lifting techniques. By limiting each session to about 6-8 students, he is able to evaluate, critique, and correct nearly every lift performed by every student. His deep and expansive knowledge of proper weightlifting technique and training really benefit every student if they apply the principles and advice he provides. He runs two sessions per week with each session lasting 1- 1/2 hours. Every student puts in a significant amount of work and effort in each session as they progress through his program. In addition to improving my technique, I found that my overall strength and endurance significantly improved. As I performed other CrossFit workouts, I felt much stronger in all areas, to include cardio. Additionally, Dan outfitted the Strong Side Lifting portion of the CFW box with all of the tools (bars, platforms, color coded competitive weightlifting plates, stackable boxes to change the start location of the lift) required to complete all movements to improve form, technique, and strength. The value I got from this class far outweighed the cost I paid. I intend to take the Advanced Olympic Weightlifting Class when offered. If you are looking to improve your overall strength, endurance, flexibility, and confidence, I highly recommend taking the Olympic Weightlifting classes at CFW.

We are embarrassingly out of shape, but Coach Dan was super encouraging without any hint of the kind of body shaming or muscle/body type favoritism that one comes across if you are more fluffy looking than muscular. The entire place was clean and there was an abundant amount of equipment. There are members of varying fitness levels and ages. This is the place we've been looking for to help us on our fitness journey.

Updated review on 11/9/18 -- My time at OT has come to an end. I have nothing negative to say about…read morethe OT workouts and trainers, because they are all amazing. My decision to end my membership is because I continue to have recurring issues with the HR monitor. If you read my previous review, I had an issue with the HR monitor during my very first class. I gave them another chance though and signed up for a membership immediately after said class. OT staff sold me on their newest and latest HR monitor after my 3rd class that you can wear on your wrist. It cost $115 bucks. The OTBeat monitor I purchased, did not work the very first class I used it in (my 4th OT class at this point) - yes, it was charged and yes, it was worn correctly) -- I continued with the class anyways and spoke with front desk staff after my class, who alluded that I didn't wear it right and that I needed to arrive a few minutes early during my next class so they can put it on correctly (rolls eyes -- I knew it wasn't a user issue). But I held them to that suggestion and arrived early for my next class the following week. Front desk staff put it on my arm for me and I began my class. Low and behold, front desk staff interjects my workout a couple of times after realizing the HR monitor was defective. This was after they moved it further up my wrist and applied some gel. At 30 mins, I gave my HR band to the front staff and continued my workout without a HR monitor at all. They decided to keep my band and "fix it" and would give me a call when it's fixed and ready for pickup. It's been over a week and I still haven't received a single call from OT. You'd think after so many bad experiences and being a semi-new member, the studio manager would reach out to rectify my bad experiences, but that hasn't happened. I will be going in this morning with the box (glad I kept that) to return my HR monitor and will be cancelling my membership. For a plan that's $69/month, I expect the OT experience that everyone else gets -- the bad a$$ workout and getting my workout results so I can compare with the previous week and see progress. And if you're wondering, what my plans are next -- I'm planning on joining xsport. They have an X-IT program that is an additional monthly cost (cheaper than OT) and it involves a very similar workout with the HR monitor. They also offer childcare for only $15/month, which allows me to sign up for their unlimited X-IT program. Edited to include that I contacted OT today to inquire about the status of my OTBeat monitor and was told that it was sent to corporate for repair. I asked for a refund given it was purchased less than 2 weeks ago and I was told that opened and used merchandise can't be return, which is silly given I was sold a defective HR monitor from the very beginning and addressed that my band was not working properly the first day it was used. I was told that my only other option is to sell it to someone. This is by far the worst experience I've had with a gym.
