I called several deck builders and deck repair companies, including Loudoun Deck Repair, to get some ideas and estimates to repair and possibly expand the deck. After speaking with those companies, I decided to call Loudoun Deck Repair. Keith Bohlayer, the owner of the company. listened to my requirements and was able to stop by later that evening for a visual inspection and consultation. Keith had some great ideas that provided me with a lot more information to consider for the project. He followed up with a detailed estimate later that evening. After a thorough review of his proposal, I decided to work with Loudoun Deck Repair...and I am very happy I did. As the project progressed, I expanded the scope based on Keith's recommendations. I am very impressed by the work Keith performed, and so are walkers and joggers in the neighborhood as they pass by my house every day. I have received countless comments about the beautiful wood work, and the uniqueness of Keith's repair and design work. It has been a big hit! My wife and I are absolutely delighted with our renovated deck. What was equally impressive is how easy it was to work with Keith and Ann through all phases of the project...scheduling the consultation, receiving their proposal, signing the contract, and performing the work. We also appreciated how neat and clean the work area was throughout the entire construction process. Our yard was totally accessible and clean at the end of each work day...with everything neatly tucked away until the next work day! I plan to use Loudoun Deck Repair again in the future. Based on responses from my neighbors, I am sure they will receive many more requests for proposals in the near future. Thank you Keith and Ann. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you. //5 stars for great quality…read more I needed to a refurbishment of my deck with a short deadline to meet the HOA deadline. At first when I contacted them, they could not promise the time line. However the opposite happened. They came by on a super hot day (2 guys) did not even ask for the deposit. They started working on the deck, removed several dead planks. I gave them water because I felt bad to see them work hard at a very hot weather. After removing the planks. They proceeded to power wash the deck. I don't have deck stairs so they lifted the heavy power wash to the deck and washed the whole thing. At the end I gave them their deposit which they were ok waiting for me to get it from the bank. Cut to several days later due to constant rain, they started to replace the planks and repaint. I was not home. They came and did am amazing job. After the job is done, I contacted them to coordinate to pay them the full price. They were trusting which means they are trusting with their job as well. I would hire them again for another job but for now, I hope this helps others.

I got a quote from Deck Armor for repairing the railing on my deck and power washing the deck and patios. I let them know that I was having a gathering in my back yard in a couple of weeks so wanted to get the power washing in right away but the deck repairs could be later if needed. It was unclear from the company's communication whether they were going to be able to schedule me within my time frame and said they would send me a contract the middle of the following week with the date. I never heard from them, so looked for an alternative for the power washing and found someone who quoted me 1/3 of the cost! I decided to move forward the new company for power washing and went back to Deck Armor to let them know I only wanted the deck repair due to my time constraints (this was a FULL week after they quoted me and 2 days after they said they would send a contract and confirm the dates! I had not heard from them). The sales rep almost immediately texted back and said it would be the full price quoted regardless even though I removed half of the work. When I pushed back, he quoted my text from a week ago back to me that I wanted to move forward with the service--like I was locked in when they never sent anything in writing. So not only did they not get back to me when they said they would after I was clear that I had a time constraint, but then had the nerve to refuse to do the deck repair work for the price they quoted me. I feel like I really dodged a bullet with not going with this company. I'm completely shocked they have such high reviews. Avoid them at all costs!

Based on positive reviews and several estimates, we recently hired Decks&Plus to repair and…read morerenovate our old wood deck. We were very pleased with the results and would highly recommend Decks&Plus for any deck work. Decks&Plus is managed by Telmo Ortiz who has many years of experience in building decks and does a lot of the work himself together with a small highly skilled team. In assessing the work required, Telmo was clear in explaining what could and couldn't be done, and what should be done and the options available. The services of Decks&Plus are quite in demand and they would probably need some lead time but, from our experience, well worth the wait. We had Telmo Ortiz from Decks Plus come out to our property approximately 2.5 weeks ago to quote a…read moredeck project. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was one of the most unprofessional contractor interactions we have dealt with in years. Two days after the visit, Telmo told us he would have the estimate ready by the weekend. That never happened. After that, he completely disappeared for roughly 10 days with no estimate, no update, no apology, and no basic courtesy communication. When we finally managed to reach him again, he claimed he was in a loud environment and said he would call us back shortly. Once again, that was not true. He never called back and continued ghosting us. What makes this even more concerning is that one of his major selling points was the "extended warranty" behind his work. A warranty is only as good as the integrity and reliability of the contractor standing behind it. If someone cannot handle basic communication before even securing the job, it seriously raises concerns about how warranty issues or post-project problems would be handled later. We understand contractors get busy. Good contractors simply communicate that. Ignoring clients, repeatedly making promises you do not keep, and disappearing without explanation is not professionalism -- it is disrespectful. After reading other reviews, it appears this is not an isolated incident and that similar communication and reliability complaints have been made by others as well. At this point, based on our experience, we would not trust Telmo Ortiz or Decks Plus with a major construction project, nor would we recommend them to others. Contractors who operate this way damage the reputation of the entire industry. We will continue updating this review if Telmo Ortiz or Decks Plus ever decide to respond professionally.

It is rare that I provide negative reviews but when I do, it's usually for good reason…read more I decided at the beginning of this year that I would finally get a deck installed. It was something we wanted to do for a long time, and we finally felt ready. Since a deck is part of the structure of a home, I wanted to make sure we got a vendor who was licensed, insured and experienced. I got a couple of estimates, and a neighbor had recommended the people they had used and said that they were able to get a permit quickly. Because I wanted to get my deck done before the summer, I decided to request a quote. Dan from Valer Builders met with at my home and did some measuring and talked a good talk. It ia amazing how people behave when they are trying to get your business. The estimate I was provided with was about 6k over what my other vendors had provided but Dan persisted and when I told him what I had been quoted, he asked for proof and tried to match it. I was a little hesitant as to how much he kept trying to get my business and how quickly he dropped his prices but, in the end, I thought that I would be dealing with a professional company, one that would provide great quality work, quality materials and great customer service. I was WRONG! After coming to an agreement, signing the contract and putting down the deposit and getting the permit, a date was set to start the work. On the first day, Dan showed up and then a crew showed up and he introduced me to his "Project Manager". The crew started the work and for the most part they were doing a great job until they started installing the pickets. I noticed that there was a huuuuuuge difference on the wood, it was NOT new material as promised. I reached out to Dan and sent pictures of which he also agreed that the wood was not grade A. I was not happy because his crew previously tried to claim the extra material that I was paying for and then installed old wooden pickets. I first mentioned it to his "Project Manager" who was actually his subcontractor. The subcontractor at first denied to have installed old wood but I have eyes and it was very clear that I was not being provided with new wood and when I texted Dan the pictures, he agreed with me and asked his "Project Manager" to change them out. One of the laborers even mentioned that he told the "PM" that they shouldn't use that wood but that he was told to just do it. I was not happy and finally Dan came to see it himself and said that he had ordered 20 new pickets to be replaced and felt the need to show the invoice of the extra expense he will have to pay. He acted like he was doing me a favor and even told me to call his vendors. Why would a customer need to do that? Your job is to provide good quality materials. When I asked him if he had inspected the materials, he seemed to get offended by the question and started being rude and disrespectful. I had to remind him that I was the customer, and it got to the point that I had to kick him off my property due to his tone of voice. At this point I just wanted to get the work done and not deal with him again. His "Project Manager" listened to the whole conversation and knew I was upset and offered to change all the pickets. I didn't want to take out my disappointment with the subcontractor, so I simply asked him to replace the real bad ones which I have pictures off. The last step of the project was to fix the flooring which I had just installed a few years back. The quality of work was very poor, and my floor does not look good. His masonry subcontractor tried twice and said with time that the material he used would set and it would look good. Two months later, my patio floor is not up to standard. At the beginning of June, the electricity in my house went out and I called the electricians who installed my new electrical box a few months ago. They confirmed that it wasn't the box and called Dominion Power for me and had then come to my property. It was determined by Dominion Power that the vendor that installed the deck placed a post in an area that caused the electrical line to break. Dominion power asked if I knew if the vendor who installed the deck called Miss Utility before they did the work. I hope they have proof that they did. Dominion Power determined that the damage was caused by the deck installation, and they said they will charge the vendor but that Dominion Power doesn't fix the flooring. I had no choice but reach out to Dan and informed him of the situation and that I needed someone to fix the floor that Dominion Power open up around one of the deck's post and to please fix the flooring throughout since the work his team did looks bad. Shared pictures with Dan and he declined to make things right, so he leaves me no choice but to take necessary action. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Valer.
